In this podcast episode, we discuss the changes in online marketing over the last ten years, and what continues to work for attorneys to drive new business to their firms while keeping attorneys in control.
There are no quick fixes in attorney website marketing, and content-based SEO isn't a quick fix, either. However, there seems to be no shortage of ways that people have tried to fool Google into ranking web pages higher than they would otherwise merit. Google's algorithms have significantly improved over the past decade and it's become much harder to trick the search engine. That hasn't stopped some attorneys -- or their SEO providers -- from trying to use shortcut tactics. In this episode, we discuss why bluffs don't pay in online law firm marketing, as well as a number of tactics that attorneys should avoid.
It matters how you invest your online marketing budget. However, we often see attorneys investing their time, money, or both into marketing expenses instead of assets. These expenses have a poor return on investment and often leave attorneys disappointed, confused, frustrated, and with little to show for the time or money they've put in. It's not always easy for attorneys to tell the difference between assets and expenses. But this podcast episode will help you identify three key features of each so that you can have more confidence in your marketing investment strategy.
When attorneys focus on what they know they can control, they avoid wasting time and money fighting things that neither they -- nor anyone else -- have power over. They can then focus their energy on the activities that they have legitimate influence over, and that will help them grow a strong, sustainable web presence that connects them with the right potential clients.
The language that you choose for the content on your law firm's website can make a significant difference in how potential clients find you, how they interpret what you have to say, and whether or not they decide to hire you when the time is right to choose an attorney. In this episode, we discuss how to choose the right language to reach your law firm's intended audience.
In Episode #31, we discuss why it's important for attorneys to understand the motivations behind all the players involved in the online law firm marketing landscape. Understanding the driving forces behind behaviors can be a powerful tool for your online marketing in a number of ways. The ability to understand the motivations of all the players involved in your online marketing can affect your ability to do sustainable and effective online marketing for your law firm. Those players include yourself, the people who are trying to sell you things, your potential clients' motivations and even Google's motivations. Once you can understand what drives you, salespeople, your audience and the search engines to behave in the way that they do, you'll be much less susceptible to empty sales talk. You'll be able to avoid doing things that cause you to waste time or money on your law firm's marketing. And that means you'll be able to focus on what does work, instead of chasing after things that don't produce long-term results for your law firm.
A client persona -- a fictional representation of your ideal client -- can provide you with a deeper understanding of your clients' needs, motivations, and background. In this episode, we discuss the details surrounding client personas, why they’re important for your content strategy, and how to craft one that helps you drive quality potential clients to your law firm's website and blog.
When it comes to online marketing for law firms, many attorneys believe that it's the biggest spenders who win. This belief is problematic for a number of reasons, and it often leaves attorneys spending large sums of money without getting meaningful or long lasting results in return. In Episode 15, Victoria Blute discusses the myth of "the biggest spenders win," and how you can use your marketing budget more effectively.

With tuition costs for traditional law schools rising and law students struggling to pay off debt, online legal education can be an alternative for some. Attorneys and co-hosts Bob Ambrogi and J. Mitchell, a graduate of Concord Law School of Kaplan University, to get an inside look at an online legal education. As employers restrict access to Facebook and other social media sites during regular working hours, email is still the number one time waster, according to UKFast's legal industry round table. Supporting the findings of the Confederation of the British Industry (CBI), personal email and internet use were identified by the panel as replacing sick days as the biggest danger to workplace productivity. Despite companies restricting the use of numerous sites to lunchtimes, finding a balance between acting like a Big Brother-style organisation and preventing essential time wasting is still a key issue. As 1 in 20 of all divorce petitions filed in England and Wales are now issued online, law firms also must prepare themselves to trade online as well as promote their business through their website. According to the expert panel, the legal community must inspire trust to encourage consumers to do this.
