PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER On today's podcast, we welcome back Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel of Hope in Amityville, NY. Pastor Claude is a graduate of Hofstra University (B.A. Sociology) and Asbury Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). He has been in ministry since 1986 and presently serves as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Hope, a church he has served from its beginning in 1993. He served bi-vocationally as a pastor and social worker for 16 years. He is the author of over 30 books, the latest of which is a thorough look at the person and work of the Holy Spirit and has a vital radio ministry to the Northeast and beyond. Today we look at the first few chapters of Zechariah in order to understand the who, what, and how of being used by Him. Primarily, the key verse is "Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord " (Zech. 4:6). So much of what goes on in the church seems to point to a generation that thinks worship-tainment, a best-selling self-help book, and programs are the way to accomplish the work of God, when really, none of that works. It hasn't, and it won't. Zechariah and the Holy Spirit have a lot to say to us here in 2025. Pastor Claude's most excellent blog can be found here. His books can be found here, and many in electronic/Kindle format are available at no cost. PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER Mary welcomes back Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel Amityville, NY to talk about his latest book, "Your Greatest Patriotic Duty". Our discussion covers a variety of topics from voting, to political polarization, to evangelism to revival. Christians often disengage from the election process, stating that the lesser of two evils in candidates is no choice at all. When it comes to matters of conscience, Christians vary widely and voting is probably at the top of their list. But even when it comes to thankfulness for our relatively free and peaceful lives, Christians ought to engage in the process. The issues are important, from pro-life to being able to share the gospel freely. We also talk about revival. What is it? Does the Bible teach or prophesy about it? How might it look today, in a church that is more engaged in deception, pride and false teaching than it is engaged in evangelism. A thoughtful hour. Pastor Claude presently serves as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Hope, a church he has served from its beginning in 1993. He served bi-vocationally as a pastor and social worker for 16 years. He serves as a chaplain on the New York State Chaplaincy Task Force. His latest work is “Your Greatest Patriotic Duty”, his 30th book. Pastor Claude emphasized that forgiveness is not optional for Christians but a fundamental aspect of our faith, reflecting the very heart of the Gospel. PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER Mary Danielsen welcomes back Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel of Hope in Amityville, NY. Pastor Claude is one of the best expositors of the entire counsel of Scripture, looking at God's Word in a balanced and detailed lens to help the Christian grow in their faith and in their knowledge of their Saviour. Today we talk about "thanksgiving" - not in a head knowledge way, as a cliche, or a superficial way, but in the very lifestyle that is built upon a heart filled to overflowing with gratitude for what God has done for us. Being thankful is God's will for us - and it is a tremendous witness to a lost and dying world. We should be people of praise and filled with joy even during the darkest hours, because God is good above all (Psalm 107). We will look at Romans 1, where Paul makes a charge that part of the downgrade of mankind is because he lacks gratitude. What a powerful verse that is! We also address anxiety and the place of gratitude in counteracting the negative things we tend to dwell on. Thanksgiving is everyone's favorite holiday, so let's "set the table" of our walk with the Lord being people who are thankful above all. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Pastor Claude's bible commentaries are available here. PASTOR CLAUDE STAUFFER Mary chats with Pastor Claude Stauffer of Calvary Chapel Amityville, New York. He has written many books that are commentaries of the books he has taught over the years. They are highly recommended resources for the student of the Bible. In this edition of Stand Up, we get to the nuts and bolts of our bright future with the Lord - eternity. We discuss what it is, who goes there, and what happens after the Tribulation period. What is the timeline for the resurrections of the dead? The Millennium? The New Heavens and New Earth, and why there needs to be such things? Many Americans really don't know what is coming on the earth, and even those who claim to be Christians often have bad information on what happens when we die and who goes to heaven or hell - and whether such places even exist! Are our dead relatives watching over us? Today's podcast is a bit of a myth-busters hour - and knowing what we believe about eternal things is very important. In Matthew 28, Jesus makes one of his most important commands yet-- He asks all of his followers to go forth and make disciples of all the nations. To share their faith with those who do not believe. This isn't always easy, but the command is simple. The reality of the Christian life is that it isn't easy, but to walk with Christ is to make the daily choice to choose His way over yours. What can you do to take a step towards spiritual growth? Who in your life can you invite into your faith journey? “Right now, Black voices are in.” That's the opening line from Reading Black Books: How African American Literature Can Make Our Faith More Whole and Just by Pastor Claude Atcho from Church of the Resurrection in Charlottesville, VA. Learning from Black voices means listening to more than snippets. It means attending to Black stories. In Reading Black Books, Claude offers a theological approach to 10 seminal texts of 20th-century African American literature. Each chapter takes up a theological category for inquiry through a close literary reading and theological reflection on a primary literary text, from Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man and Richard Wright's Native Son to Zora Neale Hurston's Moses, Man of the Mountain and James Baldwin's Go Tell It on the Mountain. This book helps readers of all backgrounds learn from the contours of Christian faith formed and forged by Black stories, helping us move toward deeper conversations about racial justice in the church. Claude demonstrates that reading about Black experience as shown in the literature of great African American writers can guide us toward sharper theological thinking and more faithful living. In the first half of this conversation, Claude shares some of his keen theological insights on a few formative works from Black writers. Then, Mark and Claude discuss the true universality of these stories and how they can inform our faith in ways that extend well beyond conversations about race, helping to bring renewal to our faith, churches, and communities.
