Today's episode is a special one, we wanted to dedicate an entire episode to mothers day to honor the moms in our life! We brought on Vanessa Spinarsky, a clinical social worker to help talk about this in a way that feels real and not so glamorous like is often portrayed on social media. We're not here for the Pinterest-perfect version of being a mom, we're talking about the messy, beautiful, overwhelming, and very real truth of it all. Vanessa is a mom of two, a clinical social worker, speaker, and co-founder of The Mama Healing Hub. She specializes in supporting women, especially mothers, who feel stuck in cycles of burnout, perfectionism, and emotional depletion.Vanessa is passionate about helping women step into new ways of being, ones rooted in nervous system resilience, confidence, and honoring their own needs without guilt. She speaks openly about the raw, unfiltered side of motherhood: the identity loss, the emotional labor, and the hard truths we're often afraid to name. Vanessa is an advocate for authenticity, healing, and the power of community, because real transformation doesn't just happen in isolation. It happens in spaces where moms feel seen, supported, and no longer alone.Whether you're a mom yourself, thinking about becoming one, or just want to understand what the moms in your life might be going through, this conversation is for you. We also want to dedicate this episode to our amazing moms, because we wouldn't be able to do any of this without them! You can connect with Vanessa + The Mama Healing Hub below:Follow Vanessa on Instagram hereFollow The Mama Healing Hub on Instagram hereMama Healing Hub website is hereDon't forget to follow us on Instagram @girlsgonewellnesspodcast for updates and more wellness tips. We meet Waverly Deutsch not as a Chicago Booth professor or coach for entrepreneurs, but as a real human navigating career decisions in a world that often asks us to pick between passion and practicality. From falling in love with theater to entering computer science as one of only three women in a class of 30, Waverly's story is one of blending head and heart across every career twist. She shares the real story behind leaving academia for Forrester Research, breaking down in a meeting and still making her case, and learning how to navigate gut instinct and logic without losing either. For Gen Xers raised on rules, she shows what it means to rewrite your own—with emotional truth and strategic clarity.>>Two Majors, One Mindset“I ended up with two majors—one in theater and one in computer science.”Waverly explains how her early passions—performance and programming—formed a lifelong blend of emotion and logic.>>Early Outsider, Early Awareness“There were three or four women in a class of 30.”She shares what it was like being one of the only women in computer science, and how that shaped her views on identity and acceptance.>>Teaching as a Lifelong Thread“I knew that what I wanted to do was teach. That was truly my calling.”From undergrad to her PhD in theater history, teaching remained her throughline—even as industries changed.>>Forrester and the First Real Pivot“I was employee number 27.”She tells the story of joining Forrester Research during its startup phase, helping it scale through the internet boom, and falling in love with entrepreneurship.>>The Crying Meeting“George, I can cry and think at the same time.”Waverly recounts the pivotal moment when she stopped hiding her emotions at work—and started integrating her whole self into how she leads._________________________Connect with Us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Waverly Deutsch --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Upon its release in 1992, Beautiful Mess by Thelonious Monster received plenty of critical acclaim yet not the sales or media exposure to launch the band into the new alternative explosion. Lead singer Bob Forrest's deeply personal lyrics explored themes of addiction, relationships, and self-destruction, not all that different from other bands at the time, but musically the band sounds more in step with Minneapolis bands like The Replacements and Soul Asylum the late 1980s. Featuring a slew of notable names from bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Porno for Pyros, and more as his backing band, the band succeeds at bringing Forrest's stories to life even if a few lyrics choices didn't stand the test of time. John is popularly known for his work on product development, collaboration, and systems thinking, and has worked with some of the most advanced product-centric organizations like Toast, Amplitude, and Zendesk. Based on his wealth of experience, John runs a thought-provoking newsletter, “The Beautiful Mess”, where he shares deep insights and revolutionary ideas in product and organizational development. During this podcast, we touched on how a founder's belief systems shape product strategies and organizational structures, the differences between single-product versus multi-product companies, and how it's important to consider the various frames through which one designs an organization's dynamics. Tune in for a rich discussion and don't miss out on the shifting paradigms in organizational structure and product leadership. Key Highlights

When we are struggling or feeling 'emotionally messy', instinctively, many of us try to hide that vulnerability from others because of a fear we'll be seen as weak, unworthy, flawed, and we will lose love, connection and approval in our lives. But research shows that when we share our vulnerability and struggles with others it actually makes us stronger, improves our connection and deepens their love and approval of us. In this episode I share the science around what researchers have dibbed 'the beautiful mess effect' and give you some tips to embrace the beautiful mess effect and get the support, connection and resilience you need when navigating messy times.Key Links and notes:Melli O'Brien: https://melliobrien.comWaitlist for the deep resilience experience course release (currently the waitlist is on our old course page called headstrong https://melliobrien.com/headstrong-program/ here ) Get your free Deep Resilience Care Package: https://melliobrien.com/#deep-resilience-care-package

Romans 6:23 preached by Richard Ulrich.
In all of the conversation around identity, relationships, loneliness, doubt, there is a key word. That word is belonging. Belonging is packed with so much meaning because it can impact or influence us personally and relationally. It is a fundamental human need to be known, to feel belonging, but that is true of what you think about yourself as much as it is what you think of your place with others. We've talked about identity on this podcast, and we've talked about relationships. Today, we're going to focus on bridging these two topics through reimaging who we are and how we relate. In today's episode, host Jason Wieland is joined by Sarah Westfall, host of the Human Together podcast and author of the new book "The Way of Belonging." In this conversation, Sarah and Jason talk about the fundamental questions we wrestle with about identity, belonging and relationships, the struggles that try to keep us from feeling rooted in our belonging, how the journey to know God is also a journey to know ourselves, and what it means to reimagine who we are and how we relate. There's a little book in the New Testament that doesn't get as much love as it should. The book is Philemon – it's a letter from Paul to a man named Philemon whose slave, Onesimus had runaway but was led to Christ by Paul. It's a beautiful picture of reconciliation – and helpful for us as we think about how to better reconcile relationships. We know that relationships come with all sorts of difficulties, but there are also biblical ways to maintain healthy relationships and reconcile them when they break or run into difficulty. For today's episode, host Jason Wieland is joined by Bryan Loritts, teaching pastor at Summit Church in North Carolina and author of the new book, Enduring Friendship: Sticking Together in an Age of Unfriending. In this episode, Bryan and Jason talk about why it's hard to maintain friendships, God's message through the book of Philemon, and how to live out a healthy relationship through Truth, Repentence, and Grace. Do you ever have issues loving somebody else? There are be many reasons why relationships can be difficult – you're probably already thinking of them . . . and maybe even thinking about the specific people you're having a difficult time with. There are many ways to talk about relationship advice, but today we are going to focus on a different approach – one that we haven't talked about before. In this episode we will talk about the metaphor that we see in the Bible as the church being the bride of Christ – and how this image impacts our relationships. In today's episode of Doable Discipleship, host Jason Wieland is joined by Vermon Pierre, pastor of Roosevelt Community Church in Phoenix Arizona and author of the new book, Dearly Beloved: How God's Love for His Church Deepens Our Love For Each Other. In this conversation, Jason and Vermon talk about how cultural tendencies are making it easier for people to live separately from one another, what the biblical metaphor for marriage means, some ways that we can live a beloved life, and more. John recently left his role at Toast, where he focused on product enablement and is enjoying beautiful Santa Barbara while exploring what's next.In this episode, we covered topics including:* John's path from product management into product evangelism and the tradeoffs of making that transition* How the role of product management has evolved and where it might go* Why it's important not to follow frameworks blindly and understand the context* The benefits writing has on John's thinking and how consistent publishing has allowed him to build a personal brand, creating optionality in his career* John's take on the great feature factory vs empowered product team debate and Marty Cagan's episode on Lenny's Podcast* And much more!John is an extremely nuanced thinker and truth seeker who wants to help bring the product world closer together. As Christians, we have brothers and sisters not just in your church, or your country, but all around the world. Oftentimes it's hard for us to grasp that we are connected in the body of Christ with people from other countries. In this second episode on the Family of God, we're going to look at how we should relate as brothers and sisters in Christ to people we don't even know. It may be easy for us to appreciate how to relate to the person we see at church every week . . . but what about the fellow believer you disagree with on cable news? Or the person living out their faith in a whole other continent? In this episode host Jason Wieland is joined by Dr. Ed Stetzer, Dean of Talbot School of Theology, Editor-in-Chief of Outreach Magazine, and host of Ed Stetzer Live on Moody Radio. Jason and Ed talk about Ed's book Christians in the Age of Outrage, how we should think about and relate to people we have never met, how the truth of the family of God should impact leadership and Missions, and much more. It's not controversial to acknowledge that relationships can be hard - even really hard. Now, relationships can also be amazing, life-giving, and beautiful . . . but they can also be hard. In this episode we're going to start a two-week look at a truly important topic: the family of God. If we did a better job of appreciating and living out the reality of the family of God in all areas of life, we would see a marked difference in the way we approach life. We're going to start the conversation today by looking at how the idea of the family of God should impact our immediate relationships. In this episode host Jason Wieland is joined by Jason Williams, Executive Pastor of Ministries at Saddleback Church. The two Jasons talk about what the theology of the family of God means, the hallmarks of the family of God, common obstacles that make these can make those hallmarks difficult to exhibit, how to handle conflict, and so much more.Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Saddleback Church Content Development Pastor Jason Wieland.
