-PGA Championship review -Discussing Colonial -Talking top 7 on odds board -1 t10, 1 t20 -2 outrights (+250, 45/1) -Sleeper -2 FRP, 2 lineups, Scoring, best bet -Soudal outright & t10 The podcast, hosted by Will Doctor, offers a comprehensive preview of the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club and touches on the Soudal Open. Doctor begins with praise for world number one Scottie Scheffler, forecasting his victory at Colonial and noting his dominant Texas swing. Scheffler's recent win at the PGA Championship marked his 15th PGA Tour title before age 29, aligning him with legends like Nicklaus and Woods. Doctor outlines Scheffler's stats from the event, highlighting his final round resilience, including an eagle on 14, critical birdies on 14 and 15, and solid putting after initial struggles. Randy Smith, Scheffler's coach, described this performance as possibly the most rewarding round Scheffler has played. Doctor critiques his own PGA Championship betting card, noting it only yielded a half-unit gain despite hits on Scheffler (+550) and DeChambeau (Top 10). He reflects on losses from backing McIlroy, Thomas, and Im, delving into McIlroy's inaccuracy off the tee, failed iron play, and silence following a USGA equipment test that deemed his driver nonconforming. Justin Thomas's underperformance is attributed to poor ball striking, while Jon Rahm's fade despite elite ball striking was due to putting failures. The host shifts to Colonial course analysis, highlighting a $25 million renovation aimed at restoring Perry Maxwell's original design. Though some greens now appear less aesthetic, the redesign added hydronic systems to preserve bentgrass surfaces. Doctor stresses the importance of accuracy and iron sharpness over distance, favoring creative shot-shapers and bentgrass specialists. Scheffler is his top pick again at +250, citing his exceptional iron play and previous Colonial results. Daniel Berger, though strong with irons recently, is dismissed due to weak putting on bentgrass. Fleetwood, Spieth, Matsuyama, and McNeely are similarly passed over due to poor form or course misfit. Two featured picks to place are Davis Riley (Top 10 at +350), praised for improved driving and short game despite iron inconsistencies, and Aaron Rai (Top 20 at +130), celebrated for precision and bentgrass putting. Doctor's outright longshot is JT Poston (45-1), noted for consistent driving, improving irons, and elite putting, making him an ideal Scheffler challenger. The sleeper pick is Thor Bjorn Olsen to Top 10 at 6-1, based on positive recent form and favorable putting surface. First-round bets include Scheffler (Top 10 at even) and Harry Hall (Top 10 at 5-1), with Hall's strong putting and improved iron play highlighted. Two fantasy lineups are shared. The DraftKings lineup features Poston, Rai, Riley, Hall, Olsen, and David Ford—a top-ranked amateur with Colonial experience. The PGA Tour fantasy team mirrors this with Ford and Olsen benched. Doctor forecasts a 12-under winning score and pegs Poston (Top 10 at 3-1) as the best bet. For the Soudal Open, Thomas Pieters is tipped to win at 22-1 and to Top 10 at +225. Doctor notes Pieters' revived iron play and strong finishes in past editions of the home event. The episode concludes with a promo code and a sign-off promising updates from the next major venue. In the latest installment of our “What to Know About…” series on golf's greatest architects, we focus on Perry Maxwell, the designer of many courses, including Prairie Dunes, Southern Hills, and Old Town Club. Garrett Morrison and Andy Johnson kick off the episode by talking about The Fried Egg's upcoming event at Dornick Hills Country Club, the first course Maxwell built. We then present two conversations: one between Garrett and biographer Chris Clouser on Perry Maxwell's life and work, and another between Andy and architect Colton Craig (@craig_colton) on Colton's quest to play every Maxwell course in existence. Toward the end of the podcast, we return to Chris for some closing reflections on Maxwell's architectural legacy. (Time stamps below.) The Banker, our June 6 event at Dornick Hills in Ardmore, Oklahoma, opens for registration on Monday, February 7. For more information, visit our new events page on Golf Genius. Norman Macbeth v Perry Maxwell. NC vs CA. LA vs Winston. Creek vs Creek. The common thread on those two awesome collections of houses is the usage of a single creek throughout the property. Never seen another golf course in the states get the kind of mileage out of a single creek like these two do which makes it fun to pit the two against each other in the all out brawl that is House Theory Thursday.Enjoy the episode and keep the conversation going with us at the links down below!Peace, Love, and Happy New Years!- The Tie Guys@thetiepodcast on instagram and twitterthetiegolfpodcast@gmail.com

Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard with the intent to have healthy bentgrass greens. To get the job done, Mr. Leonard hired John Bredemus to design the course located on the South bank of the Trinity River. Later, the club brought in Perry Maxwell to fine tune the routing and improve the course. Colonial is the annual host to a PGA Tour event dating back to 1946. It has also hosted multiple USGA Championships and is the home club of nearby TCU Golf teams. The club recently approved a course restoration project which will be led by Gill Hanse, DJ and Cody dive in and discuss the history, routing, layout, and fun that is Colonial Country Club. Enjoy! Hooray, it's our 40th episode!!! (Not really if you count all the bonus episodes and interview specials, but still...) Well, we've got something called the US Open to recap on this mega-pod, and my goodness, the "Golf gods" sought fit to right a wrong against John Rahm and I think it was worth the wait the past few weeks! We talk Bryson's collapse, Brooks and Rory's fades, and we talk all the happenings from Torrey Pines the past few days! We also talk a little LPGA, with Nelly Korda notching a big win, and now the ladies head down to "Hot-lanta" for the KPMG Women's PGA Championship this weekend (with J-Teal and I making a side bet)! We also talk up the locals on the Korn Ferry tour, some "fairway files" from the Perry Maxwell Society, and "getting weird" for the summer solstice and the longest day of the year! All that, and so much more on this week's YSO podcast!!!

Another special YSO "interview" pod, and this time we're fortunate enough to spend an hour with golf architect--and Oklahoma native--Colton Craig! Colton was a great sport as our "studio" for this one was the back of an RV in Hochatown, Oklahoma, on the eve of the big re-opening of Cedar Creek Golf Course in Beaver's Bend State Park! We talk golf course design, how Colton got into golf architecture and our shared affinity for all things Perry Maxwell. Colton also gives us the inside scoop on some of his other pending projects, including Park Mammoth in western Kentucky, as well as his upcoming book on the life and course of Mr. Maxwell. All that, and much more, on what is quite possibly the greatest golf podcast ever recorded in the Hochatown RV park! #slot17
