Brett Hochstein is one of the most prominent shapers and collaborators in contemporary golf course design having worked closely with Tom Doak, Gil Hanse, Todd Eckenrode and many other designers. Most recently he was instrumental in the reconstruction of the bunkers and greens at Pasatiempo with Jim Urbina while simultaneously building a roster of his own unique clients. Brett sits down with Derek to discuss the replication process at Pasatiempo using photography from 1929 and 1930, the possibility of re-establishing the greens at one of Alister MacKenzie’s last course designs in Sacramento, the importance of knowing when to keep your mouth shut, the current state of Himalayas putting greens, the nebulous route to becoming an architect and how mowing adjustments can enhance the playability of even simple municipal courses. It's another brand new episode of Three Way Miss. TK, Scotty, and Matt turn their attention to the second major of the year: the 108th PGA Championship, from historic Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA. The guys break down what makes Aronimink a unique major test — the Gil Hanse restoration of the Donald Ross gem, narrow fairways, tricky approaches to smallish, subtle greens, and a setup that will reward iron precision, scrambling, and short‑game creativity. The guys touch on key holes to watch, probable yardages/setup, how the Hanse restoration changes strategy compared with modern big‑ball layouts, and historical PGA Championship winning scores and PGA of America setup. Are there any pre‑tournament favorites besides Scottie and Rory? They'll look at other top contenders to watch, longshot plays/sleeper picks and how early‑week rain and a warming weekend could flip the scoring script and the tee‑time windows to monitor. We kick off the show with a recap of Rory at the Masters. What he proved about his game, lessons he'll carry to Aronimink, how his Augusta form projects into this major, and cementing his legacy and we dig into the future of LIV Golf with an in‑depth chat on the evolving landscape — player movement, tour relationships, potential format or policy shifts, and what it means for majors and the global game.Be sure to subscribe and never miss an episode.

Baden and Clappy kick off with a deep dive into the oddities of international timekeeping — Mother's Day, Father's Day, and why Adelaide is somehow half an hour ahead of Brisbane in summer — before getting into the golf that matters.Chris Wood's win on the Hotel Planner Challenge Tour gets the treatment it deserves: a former Ryder Cup player who bottomed out, rebuilt on the Mina Tour, and quietly reminded everyone he was always that good. Then Alex Fitzpatrick's near-miss at the weekend sparks a conversation about whether he's already the real deal — back door PGA Tour card or not.Brandt Snedeker. First win in a decade. Baden tries to recruit him at Steph Curry's charity event after three gin and tonics. It doesn't go well. Neither did the Brad Faxon putting lesson pitch at the PGA Show — though apparently there's a mate in Brisbane with $10k and a Scotty Cameron collection who's still waiting by the phone.Lucas Herbert's LIV win leads into a broader discussion on where the rebel league is headed, the pathway problem for players like Laurie Canter and Patrick Reed, and why the Aussie Open deserves more than it's getting from the PGA Tour. Then it's onto the PGA Championship preview at Ermenegildo Golf Club outside Sydney — Donald Ross design, Gil Hanse renovation, and what both mean for how the course will play. Baden makes his pick. Clappy floats Fleetwood and Rahm. Phil Kenyon gets a mention, a story, and a standing invitation to come on the pod.Plus: the Victoria Institute of Sport, the danger of turning everyone into the same swing, and why Herbie's career is basically a masterclass in knowing who you are at 17.Next week: KB joins the show. Well known as a wine region, Mudgee couldn't be more removed from the hustle and bustle of Sydney and the high profile Royal Sydney Golf Club. For a time, Adam's father was a trainee professional golfer at the local Mudgee Golf Club where Adam would frequent as a kid and learned the game of golf. Adam would also get his first taste of greenkeeping at Mudgee GC doing school work experience on course for a couple of weeks. And it was from here that Adam realised what he wanted to do.Although his first employment began as an apprentice greenkeeper at one of Mudgee's bowling clubs, Adam had the opportunity to visit Royal Sydney Golf Club in his early years of learning the trade. A good old-fashioned Whiparound Friday episode kicks off the first weekend of December. Andy and Brendan are pleased with the early returns from Wednesday's "Save the Mules" campaign, which launched with its very own PSA! TGL is also raising awareness for its second season with a social media video featuring new architect Gil Hanse. Gil walked out of the player tunnel in an empty SoFi Dome, creating a piece of content that will last a lifetime. Andy and Brendan bat around ideas about how this video came to be and what we may be able to expect from Hanse's designs on the big screen. In more TGL news, the league announced its newest drink sponsor on Thursday in a moved that stirred up early-2000s memories. There is actual golf being played this week in the Bahamas and South Africa, but the main focus of this podcast is on the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne. The two share their thoughts after watching the first round of the event and wish that the world's top players had more chances to play these types of courses across the globe. For a last piece of Friday news, Jordan Spieth told Adam Schpak that he's planning to play his way into 2026 Signature Events and "does not want" to use exemptions anymore.

It's time to put the Year in Review on pause for a loaded week of golf in December. Andy and Brendan are relieved to be talking about current events and the content gods have delivered, providing nuggets spanning from Bethpage to the Bahamas. They begin with the Hero World Challenge and its host "Doctor" Munjal. Brendan calls for an early Thirstbucket of the Week following his yearly media availability in Albany and questions what he's a doctor of after all. PJ chimes in with some quick research finding that his doctorates may or may not be honorary, leading Andy to refer to him as "Mr. Munjal" for the rest of the show. Tiger Woods also spoke on Tuesday about his playing future and the future of the PGA Tour. He stayed in line with reports about Brian Rolapp's 20-event schedule coming as soon as 2027 and confirmed that he'll be OUT for Jup Links in the first half of the TGL season. Brian Rolapp found himself in front of a microphone last week and made sure to mention that the "middle class matters," which is sure to put the minds of mules at ease. In more from the Ryder Cup that will never end, Justin Thomas appeared on the No Laying Up podcast for a wide-ranging conversation about the American loss at Bethpage. Within the interview, JT took exception to the green speeds at The People's Country Club and said that they were not what Keegan Bradley asked for. He stated that "they" argued with the Americans about the speed, which was aggregated to no end on social media. On the very (too?) busy Schedule for the Week, the Hero has brought in outside help for its Pro-Am, Rory is teeing it up at Royal Melbourne with Dr. Chipinski, and Will Zalatoris makes his return at the Nedbank in South Africa. With almost all of the world's top players in action this week, Andy and Brendan wonder if there are some scheduling issues that lead to three tournaments spreading out the top-end talent as opposed to getting them all in one place to compete against each other. Lastly, the Skechers World Champions Cup will somehow air on ESPN and ABC this weekend, so PJ has a full primer ready to go for those tuning in for their first Champs Tour action of the year. Friday's episode will contain a full, detailed discussion about TGL's Gil Hanse intro video that set Golf Twitter ablaze on Tuesday afternoon.

Most people don't think twice about the public golf courses in their city—until they start disappearing. Across the country, historic municipal courses have been neglected for decades, leaving behind a patchwork of underfunded, undermaintained spaces that struggle to serve their communities. But there's a shift happening, and it's reshaping the future of the game. Will Smith, co-founder of the National Links Trust, has been at the center of that shift. He and his team took on the ambitious task of restoring three historic municipal courses in Washington, D.C., securing a 50-year lease and enlisting some of the best architects in the game. These aren't just renovations; they're a rethinking of what public golf can be. With a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and financial viability, the work being done is proving that municipal courses don't have to be stuck in a cycle of decline. The way forward for public golf isn't just about fixing tee boxes and bunkers—it's about creating spaces that truly serve their communities. The changes happening in D.C. offer a roadmap for how cities everywhere can reclaim their public courses and make the game more welcoming for generations to come.  Topics covered: The neglected state of municipal golf and why it matters [00:50]  The National Links Trust and the fight to restore public courses [03:00]  Rethinking what a municipal golf course can be [08:10]  The business model behind municipal golf's comeback [11:10]  The future of public golf and what's at stake [16:30]  How municipal golf courses can secure funding for long-term success [20:00]  The national movement to restore and protect municipal golf courses [28:10]   Final thoughts: The lasting impact of municipal golf restoration [36:00]  Resources & People Mentioned National Links Trust – Revitalizing historic municipal golf courses.
