Last weekend, I neglected to finish my Notes on the Week Ahead as I got caught up in watching the Masters. In truth, it was mostly a battle between Rory McIlroy's emotions, which produced two double-bogeys in his final round, and his exceptional skill, which propelled his second playoff shot to within three feet of the hole. I was particularly happy to see his victory since he hails from the same island as myself, But I was also glad to see him win because, at 35, he is no longer in the first blush of youth. It is a sad truth that in athletics, as in life, no-one soars forever. Twenty years from now, McIlroy will probably still be a fine golfer – training and resilience should see to that. But he may no longer be exceptional.
Inniu an naoú lá déag de mhí Aibreáin. Is mise Niall Ó Siadhail.Tá sé ráite ag Uachtarán na Rúise Vladimir Putin inniu go mbeidh sos cogaidh ann go dtí deireadh Dhomhnach na Cásca, agus go bhfuil sé ag súil go ndéanfaidh an Úcráin an rud céanna. Bhí muintir na hÚcráine amhrasach faoin fhógairt, áfach, ós rud é go bhfuil a lán sos cogaidh briste ag na Rúisigh ó bhí 2014 ann. Tá an scéal amuigh go bhfuil na Stáit Aontaithe sásta leithinis na Crimé a ligean don Rúis chun socrú síochána a bhaint amach, rud a sháródh Cairt na Náisiún Aontaithe, agus dúirt Uachtarán Mheiriceá Donald Trump "go mbogfadh na Stáit Aontaithe ar aghaidh" mura dtiocfaí ar shocrú síochána gan mhoill. Níl An Úcráin toilteanach na críocha atá gafa ag an Rúis a thabhairt suas.Sa Ríocht Aontaithe, tá an Chúirt Uachtarach i ndiaidh rialú a fhógairt ina ndeirtear go mbaineann na téarmaí 'bean' agus 'gnéas' le bean bhitheolaíoch agus gnéas bitheolaíoch amháin, rud a fhágann mná trasinscneacha taobh amuigh den sainmhíniú. Chuir feachtasóirí inscne-chriticiúla fáilte roimh an rialú, ach ar an taobh eile tá imní ann nach dtabharfar cosaint cheart don phobal trascinscneach amach anseo. Tagann an fhógairt seo go gairid i ndiaidh céimeanna eile ar gcúl maidir le cearta daoine trasinscneacha sna Stáit Aontaithe agus san Ungáir.Bhain an galfaire Rory McIlroy sprioc mór amach Dé Domhnaigh nuair a bhain sé Comórtas na Máistrí in Augusta, Georgia, sna Stáit Aontaithe. Ciallaíonn sé sin go bhfuil an Chaithréim Mhór bainte amach aige anois: Comórtas na Máistrí, Comórtas Oscailte na Stát Aontaithe, Comórtas Oscailte na Breataine agus Comórtas PGS na Stát Aontaithe. Níor éirigh ach le cúigear eile an éacht seo a dhéanamh roimhe seo, agus ba é Tiger Woods an duine deireanach chun an Chaithréim Mhór a chur i gcrích cúig bliana is fiche ó shin. Chomh maith leis an onóir sin, bhain McIlroy seaicéad glas na Máistrí den chéad uair agus níos mó ná ceithre mhilliún dollar. is as Ard Mhic Neasa i gContae an Dúin é McIlroy, atá ag imirt gailf ó bhí sé ina pháiste óg. *Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Rory has finally won his elusive green jacket at Augusta in his 17th Masters Tournament. Relieved, justified, Irish…all the feelings. Bryson implodes, Rose comes up short, and Phil misses the cut. In other news, Lee Corso has announced his retirement from College Gameday. End of an era but, the time is right. Hopefully someone can talk Saban into wearing the pick ‘em headgear moving forward. Lastly, it's time for the NBA and NHL Playoffs. Massey and Trainor draft their favorite teams across both sports. Two men enter, one man will win…something. Welcome to The Golfing Mind, where we delve into the psychological aspects behind golf's most iconic moments. In this episode, we turn our attention with a forensic look into the 2025 Masters Tournament, where Rory McIlroy achieved his long-awaited career Grand Slam, overcoming immense pressure and mental hurdles. McIlroy's journey to donning the green jacket was marked by resilience and mental fortitude. After 16 previous attempts, he finally triumphed at Augusta, defeating Justin Rose in a dramatic playoff. His victory was not just a testament to his skill but also to his ability to confront and manage the psychological demands of the game. McIlroy employed a unique strategy to combat performance anxiety: visualising worst-case scenarios to prepare for any outcome mentally. Throughout the tournament, McIlroy maintained an intense focus, even choosing not to engage with his playing partner, Bryson DeChambeau, during the final round—a deliberate tactic advised by his sports psychologist, Bob Rotella, to stay immersed in his own game. This mental discipline allowed him to navigate the pressures of the course and the weight of expectations. Join us as we analyse the mental strategies that led to McIlroy's historic win and examine how other players in the field managed the psychological challenges of the Masters. www.siegergolf.com Learn more about your ad choices. Andy and Brendan are back at home after a week in Georgia but still reflecting on what Brendan has deemed "the greatest Masters" of his life. This episode unpacks some of the more emotional elements surrounding Rory's win and subsequent completion of the career slam. The two discuss how Rory's sustained relevance in majors without a win could parallel to struggles in any person's life before comparing McIlroy's current career standing with Phil Mickelson's. Andy wonders what Justin Rose is doing to prepare for majors given his performance in weekly PGA Tour events and also demands apologies from the Corey Conners contingent who were not pleased with his takes last week. Picks are made for the RBC Heritage as this gambling podcast looks to stay hot after picking another winner last week. PJ then hosts a lengthy round of In-Out-Alternate for this week's alternate field event in PuntaCana, featuring some SGS favorites and plenty of winners from the early 2010s. Brendan wraps things up with some quick bits of news, including a "creator" exemption into the 'Cuda, before heading off to Disney World, where Rory may or may not be celebrating his Masters win.

Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for week 16 at the RBC Heritage & Corales Puntacana Championship! -Reviewing Rory completing the grand slam at the 89th Masters -Discussing top 8 at Heritage -1 matchup -2 t10's -3 outrights (+475, 50/1, 90/1) -Sleeper, 2 lineups, scoring, best bet -2 FRL for Corales -2 outrights for Corales -1 t10 for Corales The transcript begins with host Will Docter reacting to Rory McIlroy's landmark Masters victory, completing the career Grand Slam and joining an elite group of six. Mike Tirico's emotional broadcast is cited, capturing McIlroy's on-course collapse in tears. Rory's press conference reflects on inspiration from Tiger Woods, struggles throughout the day, and mental strength, particularly after early double bogeys. A note from Ángel Cabrera added a sentimental touch. Rory's rounds of 72, 66, 66, and 73 included four double bogeys—no past Masters winner had ever overcome as many. Docter notes Rory's final round featured both mistakes and immediate recoveries, such as birdies following doubles and clutch iron shots, particularly a hook 7-iron on the 15th hole. Despite sloppy play off the tee and below-average putting, his elite approach and short game, backed by years of mental training, led him to victory over contenders like Justin Rose, who shot a 66 on Sunday to force a playoff but fell short. The loss marked Rose's second defeat in a Masters playoff. Docter transitions to a betting review, citing a 12.6-unit loss on the Masters, part of a 74.6-unit deficit on the season. Key misfires included failed bets on Sepp Straka and Tom Hoge, both below-average chippers—highlighting a key error in strategy at Augusta. Ludwig Åberg nearly contended until a late collapse; Collin Morikawa's first-round falter also ruined early bets. Sungjae Im was a bright spot with a fifth-place finish. Doctor criticizes his overreliance on players with poor short games and reviews each ticket, including failed first-round bets and frustrating near misses like Shane Lowry, who imploded with an 81 on Sunday. Shifting to the RBC Heritage at Harbor Town, Docter details the course as favoring accurate drivers, sharp approach play from 150–175 yards, and strong Bermuda putting. He reviews top favorites. Scheffler (+425) is a strong pick, showing consistent elite form and success at Harbor Town last year. Morikawa, Henley, and Fleetwood are dismissed due to poor putting. Corey Conners and Åberg are borderline due to form and past finishes. Schauffele is in good form but not elite in the critical approach range. Cantlay and Fleetwood are passed due to inconsistent recent play. A key matchup pick is Ryan Gerard over Adam Scott, citing Scott's issues with driving and putting. Gerard is also the sleeper pick to top 20. Two “picks to place” include Schauffele top 10 (+120), based on elite approach numbers and improving putting, and JT Poston top 10 (+375), with recent putting resurgence and three top-10s at Harbor Town. Outright picks include Scheffler, Berger (50:1), praised for driving accuracy and course history, and Bud Cauley (90:1), with recent top-5 finishes and elite stats in the target range. Fantasy lineups are provided for DraftKings and PGA.com platforms, with lineups built around Scheffler, Schauffele, Im, Berger, Poston, and Cauley. The predicted winning score is 19-under. The best bet is Sungjae Im as top Asian (+160), citing strong course history and lack of serious competition beyond Ryo Hisatsune. For Corrales, Mitchell (28:1) and Hall (33:1) are first-round leader picks based on scoring averages. Outright bets are Packieter and Cootie at 45:1, while Alejandro Tosti is selected to top 10 at +333 based on form despite putting concerns. The podcast wraps with reminders of betting value and expectations heading into the next week. Predicted winning score: 19-under-par at RBC Heritage. Rory McIlrory ended his quest for the Masters on Sunday night. It was sporting drama which gripped the nation. Well, nearly all the nation. On Free State today Joe wonders if golf really can produce profound sporting drama given that it is ultimately a game of golf. Dion isn't prepared to defend golf but argues that McIlroy transcends the game because of his inability to wear the mask that the modern sportsman is supposed to wear. And Joe suspects he knows the identity of the anonymous emailer who takes issue with Joe's comments about the GAA and soccer.Free State with Joe Brolly and Dion Fanning is a Gold Hat Production For more on Free State: https://freestatepodcast.com/ Hosted on Acast. Gio questioned including young quarterbacks like Josh Allen in this conversation, stating the Bills were like pre-Masters McIlroy. Jerry's final update highlighted McIlroy's win and post-match comments. The Mets won their series against the A's in Sacramento, while the Yankees lost to the Giants, falling to 8-7. We get into Willson Contreras responding to Martin about fan attendance. Historically, does low attendance reflect on the ownership, management or team? Or all three? We also look at Cardinals pitching- do Liberatore and Mikolas belong in the rotation or somewhere else? The Masters was incredible this weekend. We talk about McIlroy's win, Rose's tournament and more. A huge game for the Blues to clinch a playoff spot tomorrow night. Will Binnington or Hofer be in the net? More on the St. Louis Blues too. Rory McIlroy turned in one of the wildest Sunday rounds in the history of the Masters en route to winning the 89th playing of the Masters and completing the career Grand Slam. Holding a two shot lead heading into the final round, McIlroy started the day with a double bogey on the first hole and lost his lead to Bryson Dechambeau. The rollercoaster round continued all day for Rory McIlroy until the final hole where he missed a short putt for the win. Justin Rose made 10 birdies on his way to also finishing -11 and tied for the lead. On the first playoff hole, McIlroy stuffed a wedge in tight to make birdie and take home the Green Jacket. It was a wild Masters Tournament with Bryson Dechambeau playing well until Sunday when his iron play went off the rails on his way to a 75. Max Homa made his first cut in nearly 9 months and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed made an appearance on the leader board with a 3rd place finish. Andy and Brendan are BUZZING back at the Draddy house after an unforgettable third round Saturday at Augusta National. They begin, naturally, with Zach Johnson's round. Then it's on to the incredible Rory McIlroy show that started 5-under through five, peaked with a legendary strut into 15, and closed with a two-shot lead with 18 to go for the career slam. They also chat extensively on Bryson DeChambeau not giving into the fight even without his best stuff, and closing with three birdies in his last four holes to REALLY put the pressure on McIlroy for a Sunday final pairing for the ages. They also get into Jordan Spieth's extreme whining about mud balls and how it might play with the green jackets. They close with PJ on Pace Car duty recapping Tom Kim's solo round that pushed the four-hour mark before some final remarks heading into Sunday.
