Series one episode one of Britcom Goes to the Movies. After a low-brow discussion in a high-end Leeds boozer, Guy Walker and Rob Heath decided to set on a quest to definitively rank as many British comedy small to big/screen transfers as they could before they or more importantly their audience got bored of it. Building the long list of movies that contained some kind of programme, sketch, or talent crossover was the fun bit, then the real work began.   It was decided that Britcom Goes to the Movies would kick off with the 2009 cinematic outing of the Horne & Corden partnership, Lesbian Vampire Killers. This was a film that had become a byword for terrible TV comedy transfers, which is why neither of our presenters had ever seen it. Was this Hammer Horror-inflected comedy really as bad as everyone said? There was only one way to find out.   Charting LVK's origins all the way from the universally loved Gavin & Stacy to the unanimously slated late-noughties sketch show Horne & Corden, this is a deep dive into all things Lesbian Vampire Killers. As a quirk of format at the end of this episode this film would sit both top and bottom of the BGTTM rankings list, but how long would it stay at either end?   You can follow Britcom Goes To The Movies on Twitter and Instagram as @britcomgoes you can email us at britcomgoes@gmail.com and don't forget to like, subscribe and give us a lovely review wherever you get your podcasts to help us reach a wider audience.   James Corden's early TV comedy appearance in Boyz Unlimited https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z52BM_RXa-I   Lesbian Vampire Killers trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug60BEOdrB4   Viz Comic's “Which McGann Brother are you? https://twitter.com/PaulBurleyHQ/status/583366696766967808?t=KfzOgNHagjBQG3Pp1nssLA&s=08   I like You So Much Better When You're Naked by Ida Maria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkVy2FeqIyc    Shout by James Corden and Dizzy Rascal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHq3vy_7cJQ

Welcome to Episode 61 of the Blue Light Leavers Podcast Now, this one really is a bit special, and this is going to help a huge amount of people. Today, we're talking pensions and we're really fortunate to be speaking to Rob Heath. Rob is a former police officer who retired due to ill-health after 23 years' service, and he's now the lead financial advisor for 3nines Financial Planning, and they offer bespoke financial planning for Police and Emergency Services personnel, and Rob is a Police pensions expert. He delivers pension presentations across the UK and he's just an all-round, lovely bloke. Now the challenge we have here is that a lot of advice and guidance is based on your personal circumstances, and your personal goals and needs, so we've tried to answer all of the pension related questions that were asked within the Blue Light Leavers Group. We've also tried to deal with some common themes and do some myth-busting. In this episode we talk about that sweet spot of when you should or could go, we talk about the 87/06 and 2015 pension schemes and we also talk about the some of the really bad advice, such as retiring a day before your 55th birthday, and we talk about the risks associated with opting out of the 2015 scheme and we also talk about the pension trap. We also cover those with less than two years' service who decide that policing isn't for them, and the options they have in terms of getting access to their contributions. We talk about why having 25 years' service and being aged 50 is becoming much more relevant, and we also talk about becoming a financial advisor as a career path, and something that Rob talks about is the Aspiring Advisor Program. You can contact Rob through info@3nines.co.uk The value of an investment of St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds selected and may fall as well as rise. You may get back less than the amount invested. The levels and bases of taxation and reliefs from taxation can change at any time and are dependent on individual circumstances. 3Nines is a trading name of Eight Wealth Management Ltd, who are an Appointed Representative of and represent only St. James's Place Wealth Management plc, who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Megan and Becca are Ph.D. researchers working on the environmental engineering of the atmosphere around wildfires and fish ecology using marine soundscapes, respectively and in the first segment they tell us a bit about their awesome research. 00:30:16 - Drinks are a bit like wildfires and marine ecosystems: they're wet but they burn. Megan is enjoying a Left Hand (Chai) Milk Stout. Becca is working on some chilled white wine from a subscription service she used to stock up in the early days of the pandemic. She thinks it’s a Pinot Grigio. Caitlin is drinking a Juicify IPA by Lakefront Brewery from WI, where she went to school and was surprised to find in DC. Ryan goes big with a Megalodon Imperial Coffee Porter, gifted to him by Abe, naturally. 00:36:51 - Caitlin is a Science Policy Analyst for the American Geophysical Union, and the reason we were all chatting is because Megan, Becca, and I were an AGU Voices for Science (Policy Track) cohort. So we chat a bit about Megan and Becca's research, and then we chat about the Voices for Science program and what we were able to accomplish in what ended up being a far from traditional year of science policy advocacy and outreach! 01:20:59 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like outreach, in that I think they literally could be considered a type of outreach. Patrick has a perfectly adequate Punk AF from BrewDog, Ryan is also having a non-alcoholic Upside Dawn Golden Ale from Athletic Brewing. It is also fine. 00:36:29 - Part 2 of our discussion with Arik Kershenbaum is the second part of our conversation about his book. Please enjoy! 00:58:04- PaloePOWs are a lot like alien life: is it really out there? Ryan begins with a 4-star Apple Podcasts review from Entertaining, but… who is frustrated by politics creeping into the show, which prompts a hopefully helpful discussion about what exactly this sort of criticism might mean. Ryan pontificates about his Hoplark HopTea with Spruce Tips which is surprisingly refreshing. After a digression, Patrick gets to reveal that he is also enjoying the nearly non-alcoholic Nanny State from BrewDog. 00:36:52 - Part 2 of our discussion with Carl Zimmer is the second part of our conversation about his book. Apoorva eschews the yeast theme with a hot cup of coffee (with cream and sugar) and the gang reminisces about the coffee shop closest to their lab at WVU. Jen is honoring her scientific progeny with a Baby Cakes stout from Tribus Beer Co. Episode 35: Frank's California Adventure Quiz

Filmageddon

Quizmaster Frank Soldato has found himself in Los Angeles, California USA on business. Upon deciding that he can't live without the thrill of a quiz, Frank traps two new quizzlings, Rob Heath and Ben Hallam, and forces them to face off (fully clothed? Naked? This editor can only presume so much!) in his diabolical California-themed film quiz! With rounds such as the life and work of Cameron Crowe, sports movies, and a soundtrack round re-visiting some old TV themes from a previous quiz, Frank will guide these two newbies through a cinematic descent into LA-themed madness. Will they hold a candle to the two quizzlings trapped in London, or will they be taken to the bank of the river like George took Lenny and left to pet the alfalfa-fed rabbits in the sky!? As always we are looking to discuss what you've been watching, so add either Luke, Adam, or Quizmaster Frank on Letterboxd and tag your review 'filmageddon' and we'll dissect them piece by piece. No dramatic shit either. Get to the point, ya dig? The next live quiz will be held at The Prince Charles Cinema on April 20th at 8:45pm. Tickets are available at their box office or online, right now! IF YOU WOULD BE A DEAR and check out the Filmageddon Youtube as we've got a new show called #Shot4Shot where the Filmageddon crew watch terrible films, all the while drinking a shot every 15 minutes. Sounds fun? Hopefully! We'll be doing some more so subscribe if you wouldn't mind. We'd be mighty mighty appreciative.
