Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming, isolating, and even scary—especially when postpartum mental health struggles come into play. In this episode, Corrine sits down with Megan Johnson, a therapist and co-founder of The Emily Effect, for an open and much-needed conversation about maternal mental health. Megan shares the heartbreaking story of her sister Emily Dyches, who suffered from severe postpartum anxiety before tragically losing her life. Through Emily's story, Megan sheds light on the silent battles so many moms face, the stigma that keeps women from speaking up, and the resources that can truly help. Corrine and Megan also discuss signs to watch for, why postpartum struggles aren't always obvious, and what loved ones can do to help. If you've ever felt like something wasn't quite right after having a baby—or if you want to better support the moms in your life—this episode will leave you feeling informed, encouraged, and most importantly, less alone. Vade Nutrition is family owned and made in the USA. Founders and creators Joe and Megan Johnson met years ago at a summer camp for college athletes; Joe was a wrestler at Michigan State University and Megan was a cheerleader at the University of Arizona. They now live in East Lansing, MI with their son Noah. Joe is a true entrepreneur at heart. He always wanted to run his own company and bring a new product to market. In the summer of 2016 they gave up our other job opportunities to pursue Joe's dream of starting his own business, full time. This huge step of faith changed the course of their lives dramatically as they risked everything to make this business happen. Joe and Megan originally thought of the “Pods/Packs” for protein powder when they began to realize that scooping protein powder in the car after a workout made the seats and console of their car covered in powder and taking protein powder on the go was impossible without prepping ahead of time by pre-measuring into a baggy or bottle compartment. As their passion for the product and the business grew, they became confident that it was worth the risk to start the Vade Nutrition brand and never looked back! Joe and Megan officially launched their products on their website in July, 2017 and are hoping to continue to grow and expand in the years to come. Their goal is to help make people's lives easier with convenient products and to give back to the community through creating jobs and donating products and proceeds to feed the hungry. Joe and Megan were recently featured on Season 10 episode 6 of ABC's Shark Tank and walked out of the tank with a deal from Mark Cuban and Alex Rodriguez. Since the air date, they have seen their lifetime sales nearly triple overnight, due solely to the amazing exposure from television. Joe and Megan know this is just the beginning for their company. “The two most powerful words when we're in struggle: me too." –Brené BrownPregnancy and childbirth can be a vulnerable time in your life. You may experience depression and anxiety while you are pregnant or after you give birth. And you may not be sure how to get the help that you need to cope with these common challenges. On today's episode Cody invites Megan Johnson, the Co-Founder of The Emily Effect Foundation and Licensed Therapist to share what she wishes everyone knew about depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy—including when, why, and how to find the help you need.Did you know that 50% to 80% of all women who deliver a child experience the mood shifts known as "the baby blues?" And that 1 in 8 will develop a more serious case of postpartum depression and/or postpartum anxiety? These facts can be scary and confusing, especially right after your baby arrives. Megan shares her sister Emily Cook Dyches' story. Emily was diagnosed and treated for postpartum depression and anxiety. She was treated for the illness for several months. During the process she and her family found pockets of very good help, but as a whole the journey felt frustrating because the resources available seemed disjointed. In short, there were many times they felt like they had exhausted every one of their options and simply didn't have anywhere else to turn. After Emily lost her life as a result of postpartum anxiety, the family  created The Emily Effect Foundation and website to raise awareness and coordinate local resources for maternal mental health.Connect with Megan JohnsonConnect with The Emily Effect FoundationWatch Emily's StoryDid you learn something new today?
