Doyle Bramhall II - guitarist, healer, and longtime collaborator of Eric Clapton - joins Dr. Will Cole for his very first podcast appearance. Doyle shares the story of growing up immersed in the Austin music scene, the dark side of the flower power era, and the decades-long personal journey through plant medicine, breathwork, Reiki, and energy work that led to the healing practice he now facilitates. They cover the science of DMT (including why gorillas beat their chests), the dangers of plant medicine without proper integration, the mycelia-internet connection, and intergenerational trauma stored in the body's cells. Dr. Cole also shares what happened during his own three-hour session with Doyle - a psychedelic-level experience with no plant medicine. Plus: how Doyle met Eric Clapton over a cold call from Japan and a Starbucks in Venice. Your State of Mind Is Likely Hurting Your Gut & Digestion More Than What You Are or Are Not Eating w/ Functional Medicine Expert Will Cole

First, I'm surely not saying that what you are or are not eating doesn't matter. But after a decade of my own involvement in functional medicine, I see the biggest culprit for gut and digestion issues to be our minds more than anything else. I continue to meet people who are doing “all the right things,” eating clean, taking all the great supplements, exercising, getting good sleep, and they are still dealing with gut and digestive discomfort. I was the same. And I don't have a magic solution like meditating or something for the mind. But I'm concerned that the normal lifestyle of busyness and fast paced and constant stimulation is going to overpower all your other efforts. So a few years ago I sat down with Dr Will Cole. I became aware of Dr Cole through Gwyneth Paltrow, as he is her functional medicine doctor and one of the providers in her Goop wellness and lifestyle brand and company. Will has admittedly become the health and wellness resource for a lot of influential people and if you visit his IG page with over 800k followers you'll see many people you recognize. Will has a book called, Gut Feelings: Healing the Shame-Fueled Relationship Between What You Eat and How You Feel, and it gets more into the philosophy of our wellness than just clinical, prescriptive aspects. Which to me is the foundation. Your health and wellness will ultimately be a result of your own philosophy on health and wellness. Will actually coined the term, “Shameflammation”, which I encourage you to listen into. I find that shame is a reality with most men, and one they are ignorant of and prone to avoid even looking into. You're going to hear some paradigm shifting information here on your health and wellness. Episode 362 is our annual SXSW recap episode, live from the legendary Hole in the Wall in Austin, TX. Chicken Ranch Records was having a showcase, and I got to catch up with our old friend Zach Black, as well as our new friends Alien Chicks from South London. Our band also had a quick chat. The Hollow Truths this year were Brendan Clarke, Alex Jacobs, Will Cole, and his wife, Kelly. So, this is a three-part episode. I should have a couple more episodes dropping later on as well. It was a great year at South by Southwest. I got invited to the conference for the first time and was very appreciative. There was literally an insurmountable amount of things to do between checking out new bands, going to talks, and playing shows with The Hollow Truths. I definitely recommend coming down if you are in a band trying to get on the map. I started the episode off with Alien Chicks, who mix punk, jazz, rap, and math rock. They played a set shortly before us at Hole in the Wall. I believe their names were Martha, Joe, and Stefan, respectively. I introduced them to the definition of “natty splattys.” I featured their track “Candlestick Maker” on this episode, and if you like it, you can stream it wherever you find music. Next in the episode is Zach Black from Souls Extolled. He is an OG guest of the show and one of my good friends in Austin. We caught up on everything he's been up to and featured “The Cut” from their album Soulsex. Lastly, The Hollow Truths and I had a few laughs discussing brendan's airport snafus, among other things. We were extremely grateful to get added to Chicken Ranch Records' unofficial showcase that day. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.   Please follow, rate, or review the podcast wherever you are streaming if you'd like to help us out.  -- Part-Time Rockstar Productions is available in the DMV for music videos and live filming.

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Will Cole to talk about what is really going on with the gut brain connection and why your stress, shame, and even childhood trauma might be showing up as bloating, anxiety, brain fog, or inflammation. We get into his newest book, Gut Feelings, and unpack everything from the vagus nerve to “shame inflammation,” plus how chronic stress can spike inflammatory markers like interleukin 6.  If you have ever wondered why you can eat the same meal on vacation and feel fine, then eat it at home and feel wrecked, this one is for you. We are connecting the dots between your gut, your nervous system, your past, and your plate. And trust me, it is all connected. Topics Discussed: → How does stress affect gut health? → Can shame increase inflammation levels? → What is the gut brain connection? → Does alcohol damage the gut microbiome? → How does childhood trauma impact autoimmune disease? You're about to learn how government approved food policies, regulatory loopholes, and corporate lobbying have quietly reshaped what's allowed in the food supply and why these decisions are driving chronic inflammation, immune dysfunction, and neurological breakdown at scale. This episode exposes how biotoxins, ultra processed ingredients, and systemic regulatory failures contribute to long COVID, POTS, mold illness, chronic fatigue, and dysautonomia and why so many people feel sick despite following official health guidance. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dr. Will Cole, a functional medicine expert who works extensively with autoimmune disease, mold illness, hormonal dysfunction, digestive disorders, and complex brain related symptoms. Dr. Cole brings years of clinical experience analyzing lab data and treating patients with biotoxin exposure, neuro immune dysregulation, and chronic fatigue patterns. Together, they connect the dots between mold exposure, post viral illness, mast cell activation, low blood pressure, and why many people with long COVID or POTS feel dizzy, inflamed, and cognitively impaired. They explain how histamine overload, electrolyte depletion, cortisol imbalance, and genetics combine to disrupt blood flow to the brain and shut down human performance. The conversation focuses on practical functional medicine and biohacking tools that help rebuild resilience at the mitochondrial and nervous system level. You'll Learn: • Why long COVID, mold illness, POTS, and chronic fatigue often share the same biological drivers • How biotoxins like mold and viral exposure dysregulate the neuro immune endocrine axis • Why low blood pressure reduces blood flow to the brain and causes brain fog and fatigue • What mast cell activation syndrome is and how histamine overload affects the body and brain • Why electrolytes, especially sodium, potassium, and magnesium, are foundational for recovery • How creatine supports brain energy, hydration, and mitochondrial function • The role of cortisol in inflammation, stress tolerance, and nervous system stability • When antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers can improve quality of life • How nicotine acts as a low dose neuroprotective compound when used carefully • The benefits and risks of methylene blue for mitochondrial and cognitive support • Why removing the trigger matters more than chasing symptoms • How a functional medicine approach rebuilds resilience instead of masking dysfunction • Why creatine absorption improves when added to hot coffee • How Danger Coffee fits into performance, hydration, and brain energy Thank you to our sponsors! - IGNITON | Go to http://igniton.com/ and use code DAVE for 15% off your first order. -TRU KAVA | Go to https://trukava.com/ and use code DAVE10 for 10% off. -Caldera + Lab | Go to https://calderalab.com/DAVE and use code DAVE at checkout for 20% off your first order. -LYMA | Go to https://lyma.sjv.io/gOQ545 and use code DAVE10 for 10% off the LYMA Laser.
