Cara Tivey in conversation with David Eastaugh https://dagoogie.bandcamp.com/album/the-golden-thread https://www.carativey.com/ https://carativey.bandcamp.com Cara Tivey joined Birmingham band Au Pairs as keyboard player in 1983. In 1985, Tivey got her first recording break with Everything But the Girl on Baby the Stars Shine Bright. In 1988, she started working with Billy Bragg on the Workers Playtime album, singing vocals on "Must I Paint You a Picture". She shared the bill with Bragg on the song "She's Leaving Home", which they recorded for the Beatles tribute Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father compilation. Tivey performed on Bragg's 1990 album The Internationale and on 1991's Don't Try This at Home, before he took a five-year break in recording. Also in 1990 and 1991, Tivey contributed to the Lilac Time's & Love for All and Astronauts albums. During Bragg's hiatus, Tivey contributed to the Music in Colors album by Stephen Duffy in 1993. She also became Blur's live keyboardist during their Modern Life Is Rubbish and Parklife era.

In this episode of Badlands Daily, CannCon and Ghost expose the regime's tightening grip on the narrative as media coverage, legal maneuvers, and digital censorship ramp up ahead of the 2024 election cycle. They break down CBS's suspicious pivot away from Biden's corruption, explore the implications of Biden's “blurred” public appearances, and analyze how AI-generated speech is being folded into deepfake legislation. The episode also covers revelations from whistleblowers about social media platforms deliberately throttling truth-tellers, the subtle manipulation of language in news reports, and Elon Musk's role in the larger media chessboard. From buried Durham findings to escalating lawfare against Trump, this episode shows how coordinated the information war has become, and why discernment is more important than ever.

UK-based artist, producer and songwriter Jessie returns with I'm A Mess — a raw, grunge-infused anthem that marks a bold sonic departure from her recent Nashville Vignettes EP. Out 1st August 2025, the single channels the distorted energy of Nirvana, Blur and The White Stripes, while staying rooted in the folk-driven storytelling that defines her work. Following on from Little Miss London — a standout track from her 2022 album Sticky Floors — I'm A Mess continues the narrative arc, shifting from external chaos to internal reckoning. Where Little Miss London captured a lipstick-smudged stranger on a midnight train, I'm A Mess turns the lens inward, exploring Jessie's own vices, coping mechanisms and the beauty found in imperfection. With a vocal that moves from gravel to falsetto and a full-band arrangement that hits hard and honest, I'm A Mess is both a cathartic release and a declaration of self-acceptance and surrender. It's a track that celebrates the mess — not as a flaw, but as a part of becoming. I'm A Mess is available on all major streaming platforms now. We had the pleasure of speaking with Jessie, not just going into detail about the new single, but also Jessie's incredible career to date, her creative drive, the work that goes into everything, the future, and so much more. Escuchar audio

Is it possible to judge an album by its cover? Absolutely. Especially when it's got skeleton hands, raging suns, or Geiger's flesh nightmares on it.In this episode of the Beat Motel podcast, Andrew and recurring co-host Martin Whiskin dive deep into the album art that shaped our musical tastes, plastered our pencil cases, and possibly got Dead Kennedys sued. From the raw power of Monster Magnet and Kyuss, to the delicate doodles of The Levellers, to Pink Floyd being accused of ripping off Blur 20 years early (or was it the other way round?), it's a deep, noisy, nostalgic ride.▶ Featuring tales of crusty gigs, folk festivals, DIY patches, and massive, illegal sound systems.▶ Not featuring: tasteful restraint, coherent structure, or Richard Ashcroft's blessing.### Riffs of the week#### Martin Whiskin's Riff- Bellowhead - Rigs of The Time#### Andrew's Riff- Smote - Drommon Pt1### Martin Whiskin's track choices1. In this episode of Badlands Daily, CannCon and Alpha Warrior break down a flurry of major developments, starting with Donald Trump directly naming Barack Obama as the ringleader of the Russia hoax in a new Truth Social post. The duo explores how this bold claim ties into the recently declassified Clinton email appendix, which reveals unreviewed thumb drives and potential intelligence breaches in the Executive Office of the President. They dig into new information surrounding the Seth Rich case, questioning whether this long-buried story is finally coming to light as part of the broader unraveling of Russiagate. Other topics include a suspicious joint military training exercise involving DHS, FBI, and DOD; NASA's strange website outage; and signs of a pivot in the Biden administration's COVID narrative. Border security chaos and the blurred legal lines for illegal immigrants in court proceedings also take center stage, with Alpha connecting the dots between collapsing systems and the intentional dismantling of law and order. Packed with fiery commentary and big-picture perspective, this episode captures the accelerating pace of revelations and their implications for both justice and the 2024 election narrative.

Send us a textSt. Louis-based metalcore act dead7 is poised to break through in a major way with the release of their highly anticipated debut album, LOVE WHAT YOU CAN WHILE YOU GOT SOMETHING LEFT TO LOVE, arriving July 11, 2025 via SharpTone Records. Known for their emotionally charged blend of heavy grooves, ambient textures, and bold vulnerability, the five-piece continues to turn heads with a sound that fuses brutal honesty and melodic hooks in equal measure.Composed of Jason Kozik (vocals), Dexter Greer (guitar), Tim Quinn (guitar), Stephen Salyer (bass), and Zach Guinn (drums), dead7 crafts music that leans into both atmospheric metal and alternative rock, while unafraid to explore the depths of love, loss, and internal conflict. Their debut album captures that duality perfectly—one moment it's a crushing wall of sound, the next a moment of haunting introspection.“We keep people guessing,” frontman Jason Kozik shared. “The new material is heavy, but we emphasized the hooks. We tried to make sure our songs resonate. In terms of the content, we focused on love, relationships, and things that are often tough to say.”After gaining traction through powerful singles like “tape mouth” and “heaven only knows” (featuring Nathan Johnson of Fox Lake), dead7 began to find their footing on the live circuit, including festival slots at POINTFEST alongside acts like Bad Omens, The Pretty Reckless, and Coheed and Cambria. The momentum caught the attention of SharpTone Records, who signed the band in late 2024.Heading back into the studio with trusted collaborators Caleb Freihaut and Ben McGuiness, dead7 shaped a record that reflects not only their evolution as a band but their refusal to be boxed in. Touchstones like Loathe, Bring Me The Horizon, and Three Days Grace inspire the record's push-and-pull between chaotic energy and accessible melody.Tracks like “BLUR” showcase that duality immediately, with its vocoder-drenched verses giving way to explosive choruses. “It incorporates a lot of what dead7 is,” Kozik explained. “Lyrically, it's a view of trying to navigate life with everything going on... in our relationships, in our families, and in ourselves. It feels like a blur, and you're trying to survive.”Other album standouts include “HOLE,” a raw depiction of tension in a fractured relationship, and “PLEASE,” a cheeky-yet-intense track featuring Marcus Vik, where soaring melodies meet lusty lyricism and thunderous riffs. Kozik remarked, “We were making a joke about being kind of horny, and we tried to encapsulate it… It has www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Bronx native and music maker BRIEL The Artist reached out to us a few months back, sending me his stellar single titled “The Blinds”. We were very impressed with the song and style of his work and after an official introduction we inquired about having him on the podcast which we made happen this week on episode 263. BRIEL reflected on his influences in music growing up which included a love for many different R&B artists such as Summer Walker. His love for writing and crafting his own music steadily grew and has continued on into today as he crafts a world all his own within the confines of tracks like “Ladies Song” and “Blur”, both of which have a home on his latest offering “Damn Genesis” that's recently been released since the time of this interview. He told us about the seamless process creating not only the songs themselves but the concepts and visuals that helped to make and shape the project into what it became. We're very happy for BRIEL's accomplishments in what he's been putting out up to this point and are thrilled to work with him again really soon on future collaborations!Submit a demo track(s) for release consideration with Proven Knowledge! - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1l_h_XayHVqWIJHgTYyV5vGgThfRVEiBh8lw9SP8DrQw/viewform?edit_requested=trueConsider becoming a monthly supporter of the show by visiting the link here

Bf Barry says of summer starting, revving up, especially for co-host Kerry: Barry says “hanging out and hanging in” But as we greet the summer season, we're hanging out with someone Kerry came across through Steph McCoy of the fashion, style, and inclusion platform "Bold Blind Beauty". Of course, it's about the representation which I think is very important, also for the generations that are younger than me, but also because I think we should celebrate these different perspectives. And I also hope to show other travelers with low vision, that it's us who get to share this perspective with the sighted travelers and I think there's a cool aspect in that. Marie Elise joins us on Outlook this week to talk travel, the value of experiencing the loveliness and power of the planet by making use of all our available senses, and adapting to the shifting sands of genetic vision degeneration. Whether it's chickens, hummingbirds, or horses, Elise wanted to be a veterinarian growing up and now wants to share her message of experiencing the sound of a hummingbird and not just seeing it, and joins us from South America with the sound of those chickens outside the door. She describes her special connection to horses and the trust it takes to ride with fading sight, but the benefits of emotional regulation for a deeper connection and something she could apply to life going forward were helpful for coping with all of it. She says of her life travels, as she's worked to befriend the anxieties that developed in her 20s as the realities of her Stargardt's blindness became clearer: “I feel like that if you live in another country, that culture and that country becomes a part of you. It really has helped me develop as a human.” So whether it's growing up amongst the bicycles in the Netherlands, studying Spanish in Spain after high school, or her time in Argentina, Marie has a dream going forward: Of course, it's about the representation which I think is very important, also for the generations that are younger than me, but also because I think we should celebrate these different perspectives. And I also hope to show other travelers with low vision, that it's us who get to share this perspective with the sighted travelers and I think there's a cool aspect in that. Marie has a blog “Beyond My Blur” where she shares her own perspective on the places she's been lucky to get to experience and how to do this, with the full spectrum of senses, more fully: https://beyondmyblur.com

Welcome to episode #22 featuring an exceptional track list. I've got a new feature I'm trying out, tracing the roots of current mod bands and bands obviously heavily influenced by mod music. So for this episode I've got The Who, The Jam & Green Day. [Originally aired August 2007 on Mistersuave.com] To set the scene here's a passage from Mr. Suave's First Epistle to the Mods.Chapter 1 Verse 1: In the beginning was The Who and the mods knew it was good. It was loud and brash and full of danceable rhythm. Verse 2: The Who begat the Jam and the punks and mods knew it was good. It was fast and it was soulful. Verse 3: The Jam begat Green Day. And the punks and the mods and the masses finally all opened their ears and knew it was good. It was loud, and brash, and fast. And ultimately they showered it with silver and gold. durée : 00:05:15 - La BO du monde - Tournée de reformation d'Oasis, nouveaux albums de Pulp et de Blur... Trente ans après son âge d'or, la Britpop vit une seconde jeunesse. On today's brand new episode of the cast, we take a look at all the Britpop bands that graced the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart back in the day highlighted most notably by Oasis, but I give you my take and my reason as why Blur is the greatest Britpop band of the era and talk about how their upbeat melodies and the genius of Damon Albarn's witty lyricism and calming vocal presence that ushered in a sexy swagger and confidence not seen by any other band of that era. We also take a gander as to why British bands were so popular in the early years of the chart and had a defining characteristic that American artists couldn't capitalize on for quite some time. We also take a look at some other bands that didn't get a whole lot of notice and a short chart history, highlighted most notably by Travis and their most prominent hit "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" which I play for you at the end of the cast.

HT2285 - Fast Lenses in the Age of DeNoise and LensBlur I use shallow depth of field less frequently than a lot of photographers, probably because I don't shoot many portraits. Nonetheless, I've always carried a fast prime for those occasions when I might need it. Truth be told, I can't remember the last time I used it. According the EXIF data in Lightroom, it was 6 years ago for a few shots and before that was in 2013. Do I still need a fast prime? Sometimes work stretches beyond “normal” hours, and while we might welcome that when we're energized by the project, other times it's a real struggle. In this episode, Jason, PJ, and Mary unpack the difference between working late because we love the job versus doing it just to meet a deadline. They also explore how to recognize when those long hours are a sign of a toxic environment or poor prioritization—and what we can do to push back. Photo by Mohammad Alizade on Unsplash. Alex James, Simon Pegg, and Brownload Festival #495Welcome back to the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. This week, we learnt that Captain Crapbeard's karaoke song is Don't Mug Yourself by The Streets. Oh, and we launched a new radio station. No biggie. It was great to hear from Chris Kamara, who joined the team to chat about a really important cause. He's partnered with Andy's Man Club and Drinkaware to raise awareness of an increasing amount of people using alcohol as a coping mechanism. And of course, Chris had to ask him a few football related questions whilst he was there… Remember, IT'S OK TO TALK! Check out andysmanclub.co.uk if you were affected by any of the issues discussed in this interview.Friend of the show Alex James (off of Blur) came into the studio to talk about Big Feastival, which is now in its 14th year! Despite performances from Faithless, Travis, The Wombats, and many many more, Alex decided that the selling point of this year's Big Feastival was Barrioke with Sean Williamson. Hard to disagree with that… On the eve of a big premiere, Hollywood star Simon Pegg sat down with the team to discuss his role in the new Mission Impossible film, using his daughter as an excuse to talk to cool celebs, and Oasis.Yeah, thought so.
