Go and vote for Po-ol-lyWhat a guest bonanza it was this week! We had five guests come in this week to chat about all kinds of things from making Stephen Hawking laugh, to being on the Traitors, to y'know… being the England football manager. That's right, Gareth Southgate was in to talk about his new book Dear England: Lessons in Leadership. He gave us some insights into what his career really looked like behind the scenes, from being a young inexperienced manager at Middlesbrough F.C., to facing the pressure of taking England to the finals. We also had Kate Garraway in the studio chatting about all things Celebrity Traitors. She spoke about how much trickier it was actually being on compared to being a fan and watching the show at home. She also spoke on how helpful it was for her mentally, being able to throw herself fully into the show after going through such challenging times recently.Friend of the show, Alex James from Blur was also in to chat about his upcoming slew of dates for his incredible Britpop Classical. Russell Howard also spoke about his upcoming dates and the thrill he gets from seeing his friends succeed in their own varied careers. Edgar Wright was also in this week, promoting his upcoming film The Running Man. He spoke about the process of his film's creation, from his inception of the idea when he was fourteen, to the film's eventual release. He also told of a curious superstition he has regarding his movies's premieres. Keep an ear out for loads of other silly bits in this week's episode:Polly's student radio videoChris and Dom's wee adventures Dom's uncle's rifle polishingEnjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio XWeekdays 6:30am - 10am
HT2432 - Even 2500th Second Can Blur During the initial review of images from the trip, I was surprised to see some handheld shots that were not sharp even though they had been shot at 1/2500th of a second and used image stabilization. How does this happen? How can I fix this issue in the future? Show your appreciation for our free weekly Podcast and our free daily Here's a Thought… with a donation Thanks!

In this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we're reliving the one hit wonders of the 1990s. This was a defining decade for us because it's when we graduated high school and college, and we spent a lot of it slinging CDs in a record store, back when your local mall had record stores. Music was literally in the background all the time, whether we were watching MTV, sitting in our rooms rocking out, cranking it up while driving our first cars, or helping customers find the cassette single of Macarena or Zoot Suit Riot. We put together a playlist of over 135 one hit wonders from the 90s. There's no way we'll get to them all, but we've got alternative rock from Blind Melon, Blur, the Flys, Local H, Ben Folds Five, Dishwalla, and more. The two single greatest hip hop songs of all time in the Humpty Dance and Baby Got Back. Singer songwriters like Eagle Eye Cherry, Duncan Sheik, and Jill Sobule. Nu metal, dance music, and all of that weird, quirky stuff like swing music, Right Said Fred, Haddaway, and more. We're going to talk about songs you haven't thought of in years and some you wish you never heard again. All you Gen Xers are gonna want to pay attention to this one. Let's hit it! If you've ever flipped a vinyl and thought, "well that was a limp finish," then this episode is your new religion. Andrew and Dr. Sam dive into the fine art of ending Side A—the lost craft of crafting a sonic cliffhanger that makes you want to flip that record like your nan flips a Digestive into her cuppa. We've got: The Clash's perfectly measured chaos An R.E.M. song even the R.E.M. boys can't remember Richard Dawson punching you in the feelings A mystery smackhead guitar hero who wandered into a Funkadelic session and laid down one of the greatest solos of all time And very strong feelings about Brett Anderson's 12" misadventure with Suede's "Stay Together" (hint: the band hate it, and Andrew can't stop hearing horn sections) Throw in some serious digressions about class consciousness, cat whiskers, baked beans in mouths, and Gregg's colonisation of the high street, and you've got yourself a full-fat Beat Motel stew. Dave Rowntree of Blur sues PRS over 'black box' royalties All creatures will evolve into crabs Cats' whiskers = biological gap gauges Stripper Vicars: helping painters and decorators since 1995 Midori – "Yukiko-san" Gorillaz ft. Sparks – "The Happy Dictator" Grab a pint, slap on your headphones, and ask yourself – how does YOUR favourite album end Side A? OpenAI's Sora app enables users to create hyperreal AI-generated videos, leading to rapid growth and widespread content sharing. The app's features allow face and voice scanning, text-prompted video creation, and face insertion into videos. Rights holders, families, and agencies have raised concerns about unauthorized use of likenesses and copyrighted material, prompting OpenAI to implement opt-in policies and explore revenue sharing. Companies like CMG Worldwide partner with deepfake detection firms to monitor and remove unauthorized content. Experts highlight risks of misinformation and identity misuse, while OpenAI increases content moderation and allows removal requests for likenesses. Business leaders are advised to monitor AI policy changes and digital ethics as synthetic media evolves.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. Scherpte is overrated.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by legendary writer, journalist, critic and cultural treasure MIRANDA SAWYER!A natural fit in the Distraction Pieces jigsaw, Miranda is someone who was pretty much destined to eventually join Pip for an episode. As a necessary firm fixture in much of the music media of the 90's (and well beyond, of course), Miranda's got decades in the game and is awesomely well versed in basically all of it. The book is 'Uncommon People' which is out now and essential reading for anyone with a passing interest in 90's Britpop, but on top of that you'll hear a good ton of bits and pieces including the recording of podcasts and the importance of them in Miranda's career, an early dabbling in a career in law, working with such publications as Smash Hits / Select / The Face (and more), the broadness of 90's Britpop and how it wasn't sipmply Oasis vs Blur, 'Smashing' club, Tricky being tricky, being a woman into music and the unchecked sexism back then (not that it's gone anywhere), what constitutes a scene, and making a living being a musician or journalist. Super fun but also incredibly relevant, and anything about the past will reveal so much about our present, especially with the hindsight of 25-30 years. In which The Curmudgeons wrap up their five-part lookback at the British rock of the 1990s. It was a decade that started with the demised of dance-rock and shoegazer scenes but then saw an absolute cultural revolution explode in their wake via Britpop. By the end of the decade, though, things were dying down a bit and bubblegum pop acts like Robbie Williams and The Spice Girls. Yet there was quite a lot of good Britpop-influenced rock emerging from the U.K. streets in 1998 and 1999. Bands like Belle and Sebastian and The Beta Band scored critical-carling status if not overwhelming commercial success. Bands like Coldplay and Muse, both of whom would dominate the next British decade, made their debut. And Britpop stalwarts Pulp and Blur were still hanging on and producing some grand tunes. We cover it with aplomb during this episode. We pay a visit to the year 1995 to talk about some of the music that was released that year. Anthony gives us the lowdown on the metal and prog scene at the time; Stephanie shares stories from her time at Virgin Records; Rob catches us up on the electronic scene, Alan fills us in on what a few legacy acts are getting up to at this point in their career; and the whole gang talks about the battle for radio supremacy between the two big BritPop bands. During the discussion we cover albums by Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Prince, Pink Floyd, Aimee Mann, Matthew Sweet, The Chemical Brothers, and Shaggy, debuts by Garbage, Natalie Merchant, Jill Sobule, and The Foo Fighters, and the juggernaut that was Jagged Little Pill. As always, follow along with this exploration of 1995 with our handy-dandy Spotify Playlist! These are some of our faves -- what about yours? Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Blur were London's answer to the Madchester movement up north but grew into Brit-Pop force to be reckoned with (or competed against) in the charts after Parklife became a hit. Welcome to The Chopping Block – where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week, we're joined by Farooq Malik, co-founder and CEO of Rain, as two parallel wars erupt across crypto: the Perp DEX war between Hyperliquid and the CZ-backed Aster, and the deepening battle for stablecoin dominance. As Aster rockets to $30B in daily volume, we debate whether it's real adoption or points-fueled froth — and what it means for Hyperliquid's lead. Then we dive into Tether's shocking $500B valuation play, Circle's shrinking moat, and how Rain is building real-world rails for stablecoin payments. If crypto has two new battlegrounds — trading venues and money itself — this is where the future is getting drawn. Show highlights
Jonathan and James ditch the usual lists and build a three-band alignment chart: which Beatles tracks feel most Beatles, Blur, or Talking Heads—and vice versa. Expect spicy picks (from “A Day in the Life” to “Once in a Lifetime”), friendly slander, and a tour of deep cuts like “Strange News from Another Star.” Video version on Patreon for the visuals.
In which The Curmudgeons lovingly recall the latter edge of the Britpop era, covering the years of 1996 and 1997. Britpop, at this point, had become a defining cultural phenomenon in the U.K., leaving music fans to wonder what might come next. Yet while Oasis attempted to follow the smashing, overwhelming success of its first two albums by going even bigger and grander, other bands veered toward something else entirely--maturity. Oasis's chief Britpop rival Blur changed things up by embracing American indie rock and electronica, and crafted its best album in the process. The Verve toned down their shoegazing psychedelia and turned solemn and gorgeously melodic. And Radiohead portended the future of rock with the first of its two inarguable masterpieces. We discuss these albums and also cover a whole bunch of great, sunny Britpop singles. Alles in Episode #110Suede.
What a tour!Welcome back to the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. To celebrate ten years of Radio X, Chris and the team carried out their Massive Decade Tour. They hosted the show live from five locations around the country, with locations of special significance to them all. They started the week live in a barn on the legendary Blur bassist, Alex James's farm. Well when I say barn, let's be honest it's more like a cathedral! Alex gave them a tour of the place and chatted about the incredible musicians he's hosted on his farm and spoke on his life now as a full-time farmer. The team then dashed to Wrexham where they presented live from the Turf pub, literally touching distance from the Wrexham A.F.C. football stadium. After chatting with landlord Wayne and some locals who popped by, they made their next stop in Chris's hometown: Leeds, where more shenanigans went down. Next it was to Brown- I mean Whitehaven, where Chris unveiled a very special surprise for the locals, before making their final stop in Glasgow on Friday, where they did the show live from their hotel in front of an audience.Throughout all of this chaos, each day a lucky listener won £10,000 as a thank you for supporting Radio X over all these years. We also had special guests along the way, such as Humphrey Ker, Susie McCabe and the one and only McWobinson.Normality will resume next week as Chris et al. will be back in the studio (after some seriously well earned rest!)Keep an ear out for these best bits:Captain's loverFermenting your plumsRichard Ashcroft lookalike (...kind of)Enjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio XWeekdays 6:30am - 10am

PHI Studio sponsored today's episode to highlight that they are expanding their location-based entertainment distribution network to the United States with their EXP Rosemont location in the greater Chicago, IL area that is opening to the public on September 26, 2025. They will be launching with a couple of Excurio pieces including The Horizon of Khufu and Life Chronicles that feature large-scale, free-roaming VR guided tours that I've covered previously in episodes #1430, #1431, and #1588. Both Excurio and PHI Studio are interested in collaborating with creators who are interested in creating large-scale LBE experiences that could draw 100-150 people per hour, and you can reach out to Fabian Barati and/or Julie Tremblay on LinkedIn. Excurio will be making their tools and SDK available to third party developers to expand the number content producers creating this type of large-scale work, and PHI Studio continues to do co-productions across a wide range of formats and throughput scales. I'm excited to see PHI Studio continue to build out their independent distribution network across Canada and North America as they continue to produce and distribute their own experiences as well as distribute the best of large-scale, free roaming experience from Excurio. EXP Rosemont will be launching with a couple of Excurio pieces, but I expect them to eventually distribute some of their own large-scale VR and non-VR, immersive works as well. PHI Studio continues to build out their own independent distribution networks, which will provide new outlets and opportunities for immersive stories that have featured on the festival circuit to have a home beyond this more insular XR industry exhibition network. Not all projects will be a good fit for this high-throughput format, but the revenue generated will help support their other more experimental efforts that are helping to push the boundaries of the medium. Look for my more in-depth coverage of Blur coming out here within the next couple of weeks, which was my personal favorite from Venice Immersive and one of the hottest tickets at this years festival. Thanks again to PHI Studio for sponsoring this episode, and keep an eye on this new location in the greater Chicago area (and apparently only a 10-minute ride from O'Hare Airport if you happen to have an extended layover). I'll be diving more into more 30+ hours of coverage from Venice Immersive within the next couple of weeks, likely after I return from Meta Connect. This is a listener-supported podcast through the Voices of VR Patreon. Music: Fatality
In which The Curmudgeons revisit the zenith of the Britpop movement. And by 1995, there definitely was a movement in the U.K. The music defined the style and defined the discussion and defined the culture. The mania was such that the two biggest bands in all of Britpop, Oasis and Blur, ended the year embroiled in a hilariously nasty feud. Here, we discuss albums by those two bands and others by The Verve, PJ Harvey, Elastica, Pulp and Radiohead. Oasis won't look back in anger, and neither will we. Oasis were the biggest band on the planet for a moment. They famously warred with Britpop rivals Blur, and the Brothers Gallagher feuded with each other in public and came to blows numerous times behind closed doors. The success of their massively popular second album skyrocketed the band to international fame and brought unwanted, intense pressure from the British tabloids, causing frontman Liam Gallagher to slide into a drunken stupor that would threaten to break up the band and distract Noel Gallagher from doing what he did best: write songs. All of the dysfunction, humor, hedonism and hooliganism that is Oasis comes to a head in this, the second part of the Oasis saga. This episode was originally published on April 13, 2021.
