TSORR Radio Show S7E50 aired at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 12 Dec 2024. The theme of the show was moving on. TSORR's days of broadcasting from the wastelands of ANC-run Johannesburg are drawing to a close, and once the relocation is complete in January, we have huge plans for 2025. There is something for everyone here: rock, metal, ballads, and blues, and as always, it's all about the guitars. On the Twisted Triplets, we had three tracks called ‘Move On'. The three contributing artists were Paul Stanley, Walter Trout, and David Bowie. In the Evolution of Judas Priest, we are at a high point. It's 1980, and this is Priest's evolutionary high point—their fish moves onto land moment - British Steel. The Immortals slot went to White Buffalo and the Forest Rangers and a track off the Sons of Anarchy called ‘Come Join the Murder'. The Diabolical Challenge looked at 4 albums produced by Kevin Shirley: The Black Crowes – Shake Your Money MakerCold Chisel - Last Wave of SummerJoe Bonamassa – Driving Towards the DaylightIron Maiden – Brave New World If you are new to TSORR you can find us on Facebook, X or Instagram. TSORR Radio Show S7E48 aired at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 28 November 2024. Thank you all very much for a record-breaking week for TSORR podcast downloads. Your support is greatly appreciated. This week's show featured some great new music. Check out the tracks from Crossbone Skully, Storace, and Opeth. There is something for everyone here: rock, metal, ballads, and blues. As always, it's all about the guitars. On the Twisted Triplets, we had three tracks called ‘Ugly', Therapy?, and Soil, and of course, The Stranglers did the honours. In the Evolution of Judas Priest, we are in 1978, and the band has made their first flawless album. From here onwards, they are writing Heavy Metal history. Once again, we had Joe Bonamassa in the Immortals slot. I am amazed he has only featured twice. The Diabolical Challenge looked at 4 albums produced by Bob Rock: Metallica – MetallicaMötley Crüe – Dr FeelgoodBon Jovi – Keep the FaithThe Cult – Sonic Temple If you are new to TSORR you can find us on Facebook, X, or Instagram. Welcome to another episode of The Story of Rock and Roll Show. S7E27 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 4 Jul 2024. It's traditional on TSORR to celebrate Independence Day in honour of the USA and all that awesome Rock music that has come out of the US, the stuff I, and many other listeners grew up on. I took the opportunity to use the week's Twisted Triplet to thank the USA with three different songs called 4th of July. We heard from The Sweet, Soundgarden, and of course Bruce Springsteen. The final track for the Evolution of the Foo Fighters was ‘Rescued' off their 2023 release dedicated to their friend and drummer Taylor Hawkins But Here We Are. Immortals this week came from Audience and a track called ‘House on the Hill' off the album of the same name. Released in 1972 it is a wonderful track. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘C'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. S7E19 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 9 May 2024. Winter is coming to Johannesburg so this show helped to warm up the airwaves. We kicked off with Blackfoot of Tomcattin' and a track called 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme'. From there on out it was all the rock and metal we could squeeze in from the last 55 years. Continuing with Evolutions we took in a track off The Foo Fighters' second album The Color and The Shape. Just to reiterate please NOTE that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music. The problem with that is you just can't get through the red tape and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures. You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens. The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help. You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Reason to Believe'. Bruce Springsteen and Arch Enemy did the honours. Immortals this week came from Gary Moore and a track called 'Blood of Emeralds'. It was tempting to give ‘Parisienne Walkways' a go but traditionally we stay more obscure with immortals. Maybe next time. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘S'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Scorpions – Love At First StingSaxon – Wheels of SteelSeether – GasolineSkid Row – Skid RowWe also had Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's Picks of the Week featuring birthday boy Joe Bonamassa and Spiritbox.Check out the website to sign up for the monthly TSORR newsletterArtists Featured: Blackfoot, Badlands, Theory of a Deadman, Boston, Van Halen, Massive Wagons, Kickin' Valentina, Backyard Babies, Patti Smith, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, John Cougar, Last In Line, Def Leppard, Bruce Springsteen, Arch Enemy, Nirvana, Mick mars, Daughtry, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Karen Zoid (feat Dan Patlansky), Dan Patlansky, The Black Cat Bones, Springbok Nude Girls, Gary Moore, Scorpions, Saxon, Skid Row, Seether, The Clash, The Stranglers, the Fismits, Joe Bonamassa, Spiritbox, Ghost Brigade, Billy idolThe Story of Rock and Roll. Five Finger Death Punch, Sinner, and Paul Stanley. Immortals this week came from Alter Bridge and the track was of course ‘Blackbird'. Everything about it is perfect, from the way it builds all the way through to Tremonti's masterful solo and Myles hitting all those high notes. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘P'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. S7E15 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 11 April 2024. TSORR was on Myoli Beach in Sedgefield for this episode so the view was great. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Winter'. We looked to a local band called Crash Car Burn for the first track and then went back to the amazing Goats Head Soup album for a Rolling Stones song called Winter. It's interesting to note that this is one of the few Rolling Stones that Keith Richard did not play on. The song was written and recorded by the two Mick's – Jagger and Taylor. Immortals was courtesy of Avenged Sevenfold, the title track off The Stage, the last good album they made before they went mental and served up the biggest turd in the history of metal. off the Born to Run album, we took a listen to ‘Jungleland'. Springsteen is at his finest on this groundbreaking album but it's Clarens Clemons' sax solo that really makes it Immortal. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘O'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Oasis – What's The Story Morning GloryOzzy Osbourne – The Ultimate SinThe Offspring – Killboy PowerheadOver Kill – The Grinding Wheel Artists Featured: King Kobra, Mötley Crüe, Phil Campbell & the Bastard Sons, Mick Mars, Airbourne, Doll Skin, Loverboy, Pat Benatar, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metal Church, KISS, W.A.S.P., Crash Car Burn, The Rolling Stones, System of a Down, The Winery Dogs, Thunder, Warrant, Judas Priest, Keel, Foo Fighters, Guns ‘n Roses, Massive Wagons, Phillip Sayce, The Pretty Reckless, Avenged Sevenfold, Over Kill, The Offspring, Ozzy Osbourne, Oasis, Green Day, Anti-Flag, Y&T, Triumph, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, In Flames, ConilThe Story of Rock and Roll. S7E10 went out live on Rebel Rock radio at 19h00 on 7 March 2024. This weeks' Immortals feature – a track over 7 min that showcases what an artist went to a band called Paradox. The track was called 'Manhunt' off the Pangea album The Diabolical challenge this week looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘J'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. Welcome to The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show. Season 7 episode 6 aired at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 8 Feb 2024. As always, the show consisted of 3 hours of Rock and Metal and covered all sorts of artists from late 1960 through to albums released this week. You should find something amongst this lot, see 'Artists featured' below (in order of appearance). The Immortals track this week came from Blue Öyster Cult, a track called Shooting Shark off The Revolution By Night album. Buck Dhara on guitar never disappoints. The Diabolical Challenge this week looked at the letter ‘F'. As with last week's 'E', this one was not easy either, not a lot of bands starting with ‘F'. Foreigner got bumped for Fokofpolisiekar which may not make sense to international listeners. All I can say is that if you read the book, The Story of Rock and Roll, things will be clearer. Fokofpolisiekar were a legendary live band and a huge part of my life in the early '00s. We looked at the following albums and played a track off each: Free – Fire and Water Five Finger Death Punch – American CapitalistFokofpolisiekar – LugsteuringsFoo Fighters – Wasting Light Artists featured: The Jam, Motörhead, Night Ranger, the Temperance Movement, Phil Campbell, Roan Van As, Tom Petty, Iced Earth, hell Fire, Kiss, L.A. Guns, Massive Wagons, Circus of Power, Doomsday Outlaw, Halestorm, The Distillers, The Wildhearts, Iron maiden, Judas Priest, Nevada beach, Tokyo Blade, Tony Martin, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Volbeat, W.A.S.P., Blue Öyster Cult, Free, Five Finger Death Punch, Fokofpolisiekar, Foo Fighters, Extreme, Deep Purple, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Avenged Sevenfold, ACDC The Story of Rock and Roll. Welcome to The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show. Season 7 episode 5 aired live at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 1 Feb 2024. As always, the show consisted of 3 hours of Rock and Metal and covered all sorts of artists from late 1960 through to albums released this week. You should find something amongst this lot, see artists featured below (in order of appearance). The Immortals track this week came from W.A.S.P., a track called ‘The Tool' off First Blood…..Last Cuts. The Diabolical Challenge this week looked at the letter ‘E'. This is one of the skinnier letters of the alphabet and not as easy to find artists as it is with ‘M' and ‘A' and ‘S'. We looked at: Elton John – Madman Across the WaterThe Eagles -Hotel CaliforniaExodus – Bonded By BloodExtreme – Pornograffitti Hotel California took it in the end, tough challenge. Artists featured: Thin Lizzy, The Pretty Reckless, Those Damn Crows, Poison, twisted Sister, Adrenaline Mob, ZZ Top, Dan Patlansky, BlackØwl, Massive Wagons, Green day, Foo Fighters, Saxon, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Journey, Five Finger Death Punch, Texas Hippie Coalition, Frank Marino, Gary Moore, The Jam, Stiff Little Fingers, The Stranglers, Stone Temple Pilots, System of a Down, Queen,, W.A.S.P., Elton John, The Eagles, Extreme, Exodus, UFO, Union, Cindy-Louise, Kenny Hughes, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Rammstein, The Haunted. Welcome to Episode 4 of Season 7. S7E4 went out live at 19h00 on 25 Jan 2024 on Rebel Rock Radio. Amazing to think that the first month of 2024 is done, where does the time go? We started gently with some Iron Maiden and the show progressed from there. We had new releases from Green Day, Saxon, Judas Priest, and Ryan Adams. The year is starting off well. The Immortals slot, a track over 7 min long, went to Deep Purple's ‘Knocking at Your Back Door' off their 1984 Perfect Strangers album. This album was the reunion of the celebrated Mk II line-up and did very well for them. The Diabolical Challenge this week was 4 bands starting with the Letter ‘D': Dio – The Last in LineThe Darkness – Permission to LandDavid Bowie – Scary Monsters and Super CreepsDef Leppard – On Through the Night Bowie was unstoppable here. Artists featured: Iron Maiden, ACDC, Daughtry, Iron Allies, Accept, Pilgrim South, Mark Haze, Seether, POD, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Saxon, Massive Wagons, Megadeth, Halestorm, Pat Benatar, Samantha Fish, W.A.S.P., Ted Nugent, The Almighty, Thin Lizzy, Ace Frehley, Journey, Ignite, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Dio, Def Leppard, The Darkness, David Bowie, The Rolling stones, Springbok Nude Girls, Buckcherry, Bob Dylan, Wolfmother , Volbeat, Ryan Adams, Kid Rock. Episode 22 of Season 6 aired on 1 June 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 sharp. We kicked off with The Cult and officially welcomed in a cold Johannesburg winter with a track called Sun King. From there it was up-tempo heavy stuff with Stone Temple Pilots, Papa Roach, Raven, and Rage Against the Machine. You can check out who played below in the artists featured section. New releases included stuff from Buck Cherry and Greta Van Fleet. There were tracks from the Foo Fighters and from Avenged Sevenfold but we didn't get to them which tells you something about the show. I did a big cheat for the Immortals this week and played ‘Won't Get Fooled Again' off Who's Next, it's a big cheat because the Ultimate Challenge looked at 4 albums from 1971 and I could not decide what to choose. There was Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers, Bowie - Hunky Dory, The Doors – LA Woman, Deep Purple – Fireball and they got sidelined for Led Zeppelin IV, Black Sabbath – Master of Reality, Jethro Tull – Aqualung, and Uriah Heep – Look at Yourself. So I put The Who's ‘Won't Get Fooled Again' as the Immortals Track. Artists featured: The Cult, Stone Temple Pilots, Papa Roach, Raven, Rage Against The Machine, Gov't Mule, Ross Harding, Seether, Megadeth, Metallica, BlackØwl, Buck Cherry, Greta Van Fleet, Clutch, Faith No More, Airbourne, Ayron Jones, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, The Sweet, Marvelous 3, The Police, Massive Wagons, Nevada Beach, The Who, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Live, Manowar, Memorium, Warrior Soul, OnslaughtThe Story of Rock and Roll. S6E16 went out live on Rebel Rock radio at 7 pm on 20 April 2023. It was jam-packed with new stuff including Metallica, Overkill, Dave Hause, and Ian Hunter. The highlight of the new releases was a track called ‘#Rebel' from Extreme, Nuno Bettencourt is on fire on the tracks released so far. The album is to be called Six and there are 3 tracks out so far. We also had a surprise release from the Foo Fighters. The band is calling it a new beginning. According to Rolling Stone; The album arrives “after a year of staggering losses, personal introspection, and bittersweet remembrances,” the album's listing page notes. “A brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters have endured recently, But Here We Are is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship, and family.” Following on from the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins the Foos have regrouped and united through music. No one is saying who drummed on the track, but it does sound like Dave to me. I still hope Rufus Taylor will get the gig. The Ultimate Challenge was way more difficult than normal because 1976 was so strong. We had 6 albums, Thin Lizzy – Jailbreak, Kiss - Destroyer, Judas Priest – Sad Wings of Destiny, Rainbow – Rising, Rush - 2112, and Boston – Boston. What do you do when you are supposed to pick one out of four and you can't even pick four from six? I played all 6 and broke my own rules. The popular choice was Jailbreak, personally Sad Wings and Destroyer are very special to me. The general view from the listeners was that 1976 was phenomenal and these 6 albums just prove it. We had some TSORR oddities and called back the past with Madness and Adam and the Ants, both went down well. The Immortals this week featured Creedance Clearwater Revival and their 7:39 Track ‘Keep on Chooglin'. This track gets into your head, the Doctor says it normally takes a week to stop singing 'Keep On Chooglin' to yourself. This was one of the most enjoyable shows in a long time, with good vibes on the airwaves and cool people to share it with, Ed's dead baby, Ed's dead, Long live Nuno. As broadcast April 15, 2021. On this date in 1989, Tone Loc's debut record went to #1 on the Billboard Charts on the back of two big hit singles in "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina." Admittedly, pretty wack tunes that have not aged well to say the very least on the subject. However, we rocked the title track to the album which is more true to the artist himself anyway. For the rest of our Sampled funk & soul first half, we had newly remastered tunes from Fela Kuti and an old J-Dilla remix along with new tunes from El Michels Affair, Black Market Brass, Jordan Rakei & many others. For our 2nd hour, Dan Lloyd right as rain is in the house to go over some big albums out tomorrow and singles from Mick Jagger, The Armed, Massive Wagons, and much much more for our weekly AMPED feature.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Tone Loc – Loc'ed After DarkBusta Rhymes – Woo Hah!
