It's time for another mid-week episode, and I dearly hope you all aren't getting podcast fatigue at this point, or are tired of hearing of miracles and magic! I am ever so grateful to each and every one of you who listens, and it's such a happiness that I get to meet people who are doing good works, talk to them, and then bring their stories to you! This episode my guest is Minister and Chaplain Roger Butts, who tells a simple, yet powerful tale-one I don't want to ruin by spilling the beans...but suffice it to say it takes place in a hospital with one frail and elderly patient, and the truth and beauty she brought to the end of her life. (as well as to Roger who was lucky enough and blessed enough to be present to her). I hope this story reminds each and every one of you to embody gratitude each and every moment! Not every author's idea is going to resonate with everyone, so having lots of different viewpoints is essential! Thanks for your ratings and reviews this week... In episode 122, Roger Butts helps us explore how we can create space for those sitting in suffering. Having served as a Chaplain and Minister, he has often chosen to journey with individuals in incredibly hard spaces, including on the cusp of death. He's learned how much we can bring to the table in those moments -- how distracting and even destructive that can be -- and how each of us actually has the capacity to care for others, no matter our situation. Each of us can create space. How has God invited you to create space for others? Engaging speaker. Expert in hospital chaplaincy and the emotional turmoil of the COVID pandemic as well as the importance of spiritual practices (with or without organized religion) and self-reflection in the time of a pandemic. Expertise in centering prayer and other contemplative practices. Important practices in a time of burn out among social justice activists, in a time of political divisions. Expert in inter-spiritual and inter-faith and progressive Christian thought. Expert in the importance of meditation/contemplation/prayer for daily practice to deepen the ability to reflect on life's chances and changes. Occasionally funny too. That's a bonus.
