We Own the Dark hits Episode 10!!! This time we get real fuckin' meta with it, watching two films that dig deep into the delicious despair of screenwriting, filmmaking, and the horror genre we love to death!! Jason kicks us off with Mario Philip Azzopardi's brutally underrated Deadline (1980), paired with enthusiasm and the darkest of comedy with Jerry's choice; Sam Ashurst's A Little More Flesh (2020). Take a watch then take a listen and let us know what you think of the pairing! If you like what you hear, give us a follow and a like! Find Deadline on Blu-ray at Vinegar Syndrome here. Sam Ashurst joins us to share he story of Family in the Wilderness, and how we call each other to remembrance.
This week, the Frankenstein Monster does his most monstrous deed yet: he invites us to attend his one-man show. (One-monster show?) But it's good actually? We've certainly never seen anything like this before as the Creature monologues at us for a full 90 minutes, and it's pretty compelling. Join us in the abandoned church for some Very Serious Theatre! Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you don't miss future installments. Join us on Patreon at patreon.com/thefrankencast. Continuing in the message that Stephen gives the religious rulers in Acts Chapter 7, Sam brings us through the story of Moses, highlighting his early life, and unpacking the idea of going out before we are ready.
Sam Ashurst shares a profound story of her experience with homelessness. Sam is now an expert city leader, working from a place of passion and first-hand experience. She actively rallies the community around the housing insecure and has learned the value of togetherness through her incredible story. She teaches others around her how to effectively partner alongside unhoused individuals, instead of just providing relief or doing a simple good deed. #homeless #authentic #honest #selfhelp #addiction #relationships #community #unity #christian #jesus #leadership #non-profit

This is IT! This the last episode before we don our Christmas jumpers, the seasonal theme and embrace a festive season in a world beset by plague. I can't tell you exactly how that's going to go but I can say this... It's going to be an experience! So, to the episode! It's EPISODE 128! This week, we are absolutely delighted to be joined once again by one of the co-hosts of the phenomenal Arrow Video Podcast. He is also the director of the films FRANKENSTEIN'S CREATURE and A LITTLE MORE FLESH... It's SAM ASHURST! (The below image IS Sam...but he's dressed as Toxie) The film? THE TOXIC AVENGER! The Toxic Avenger has long been said to have "built the house of Troma" and with the musclebound superhero raking in the dollars from action figures and kids cartoons it is hard to argues with that. So it is perhaps timely that Sam rejoins us right now. In fact the timing couldn't be better as Sam's own film, A LITTLE MORE FLESH, is coming to Troma's own streaming service from December 1st! So to THE TOXIC AVENGER then. It's a riotous, anarchistic and frequently offensive little film that is a fun old time. Andy and Sam agree...but what will Mitch make of it? The synopsis is as follows: (from IMDB) Melvin is a social misfit who works in the Tromaville Health Club. He is always suffering the abuse of two bullies and their respective girlfriends and the four are also murderers. But all the abuse is going to end when Melvin accidentally falls into some barrels with toxic material. Now he is "The Toxic Avenger" and soon he will be the hero of Tromaville and a menace to the corrupt mayor. Please note that this podcast may contain strong language and even stronger Scottish accents. Also, why not pop over and take a look at our Patreon page? So, while we are releasing this episode today, let us not forget that TONIGHT, June 19th at 8pm, we will be once again hosting a LIVE Zoom Watchalong, this time of WISHMASTER! Check out our social media for more on how you can get involved. So onto Episode 106 then and we are absolutely delighted to welcome this week's guest to the show. He is one of the co-hosts on the always excellent Arrow Video Podcast (alongside previous guest Sam Ashurst) and also the Special Effects designer on such films as Lords of Chaos, Girl On The Third Floor, Color Out Of Space and Possessor... It's Dan Martin! His chosen film? MURDER ROCK! Way back in 1994 and coming hot on the heels of mixed fare such as New York Ripper, Conquest and Manhattan Baby, Italian "Godfather of Gore" Lucio Fulci takes a swing at dance films such as Flashdance with this bizarre, dance-themed giallo which, largely, lands! Check it out! The synopsis is as follows: A series of murders rock a dance academy in New York in which the mysterious directress, Candice, sets out to find the kiler, with a little assistance from a shady male model, named George, who has a hidden agenda for her as does she for him. Huge thanks to Dan for joining us! Follow him on Twitter HERE! Please note that this episode contains strong language, conversations of an adult nature and EXTREMELY Scottish accents. So as everything continues to go to hell in a handbasket, we can all agree that the general vibe, globally, is one of uncertainty. The only things certain in life are death, taxes and that, for as long as we are physically able to do so, we will bring you new episodes as usual and this week is no different... Here is Minisode 95! In all seriousness though, we love every one of you out there. Please stay safe and stay well and for fuck sake, listen to the experts and stay inside. Please. Don't put yourselves or anyone else at risk. We want to see you at future live shows once this blows over. Topics include a look back at Series 5 of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pembertons excellent anthology series INSIDE No. 9, former guest Sam Ashurst's latest offering A LITTLE MORE FLESH and Mitch continues his 90s side-quest with TICKS! Also, there's another installment of MITCH'S PITCHES! Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below... We also announce the film and guest for this week's main episode. In addition to all this, we dig into your posts and messages in the Feedback section and tell you what you should be watching as we look at what's arriving on streaming platforms this week! I really, truly, hope that you have strong constitutions as this one might be the most repulsive kids film ever made... This week, Andy and Mitch are joined by the director of Frankenstein's Creature, the upcoming A Little More Flesh and also, co-host of the excellent Arrow Video Podcast...It's Sam Ashurst! His chosen film? The Garbage Pail Kids Movie! Wow. This one is a doozy. A frequent video shop rental for both Andy and Sam and the first, though not the last, film to be based on a range of Topps trading cards, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie is an oft-maligned...experience...that fails as often as it disgusts. That is to say, frequently. However... Is there a little bit of magic to be found in these revolting little things? Is there a kind of warped morality at play? Or is it simply garbage? The synopsis is as follows: Meet Windy Winston, Messy Tessie, Foul Phil, Valerie Vomit and the whole outrageous Garbage Pail crew. When the stinky bunch are let loose in the junk shop of mysterious Captain Manzini, young helper Dodger finds these grimy new arrivals are just the help he needs to deal with the local bullies. But how can he get them back where they belong now they're free to gross our the world? Huge thanks to Sam for joining us! Follow him on Twitter HERE! Surprise! There's a new Cloverfield movie! In honor of the spontaneous debut of 'The Cloverfield Paradox', which went up on Netflix following last night's Super Bowl, Jenna and Chris are here to record a very spontaneous episode. The movie is almost too fresh for us to get an overall critical consensus, but we're here to talk about the immediate - and polarizing - reaction this movie has gotten so far.(SPOILERS, obviously.)How does this one-of-a-kind release strategy impact the Cloverfield franchise - and the film industry as a whole?
