The boys pack their bags and go for a hike with Rowan's pick, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999)! It may not have invented found footage, but is it still the blueprint every shaky-cam nightmare is chasing? Who would have thought that a slasher film about a giggling psychopath who thinks he's a physician would leave such an impression? Tune in to hear us break down all the doctor-themed kills, the doctor-themed one-liners, and the characters who should have survived, but sadly met their brutal demise.
This week on the show, we descend into the haunting world of Jacob's Ladder - a film that, on the surface, feels like a straightforward psychological horror about demons, paranoia, and a man losing his grip on reality. But scratch beneath that surface and you'll find something far more profound. What if this isn't just a story about madness… but about death? About grief? About the terrifying space between holding on and letting go?In this episode, we explore the film's deeper themes - the idea of being trapped between life and death, the fear of accepting the inevitable, and how resistance can turn peace into torment. We break down the behind-the-scenes origins of the film, the philosophical concepts that shaped it, and why its message may be one of the most emotionally devastating in horror history. Is it a demonic nightmare? A psychological breakdown? Or something far more spiritual?Sometimes the scariest thing isn't the monster in the shadows - it's the truth waiting at the end.If you enjoyed this - Check out my other content HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast--4295531/support.

Hey! Our Halloween Series kicks off with a hit horror flick from the 90s--Wes Craven's Scream. This one has everything, from teen movie icons to self-deprecating satire. It's a fine line between fun and obnoxious, but Craven and writer Kevin Williamson straddle it pretty well. For our first two episodes, we'll enjoy some bold red wines. This is a bloody epic, so it just seems to fit. Enjoy!

This psychological horror thriller from director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, Flashdance, Unfaithful) takes us through the horrific journey of Vietnam vet Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) who is now working as a postman in New York City and starts seeing various horrific visions wherever he goes....could they be demons? He doesn't know but they start getting worse and worse, even blending into his everyday life....could they be premonitions resulting from his PTSD? Neither he knows nor his girlfriend (Elizabeth Pena) and the only person who can apparently provide him with some comfort is his personal chiropractor played by Oscar-nominee Danny Aiello. Eventually Jacob does get more answers as to where these visions might be coming from but those only result in more questions.....this mind-bending tale garnered a following throughout the '90's as a result of some genuinely disturbing imagery featured throughout. It also features a pretty stacked cast including Matt Craven, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Jason Alexander, Eriq LaSalle, Ving Rhames, and Macauley Culkin.WARNING: GRAPHIC VIOLENCE PORTRAYED VIA MOVIE CLIPSHost: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSee below for a link to an extended deleted scene discussed in this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hkLhMuzk3E&t=415sSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we unlock the doors to the twisted, blood-soaked funhouse that is House on Haunted Hill (1999).Part remake of William Castle's 1959 classic and part late-'90s horror fever dream, this Dark Castle Entertainment debut gave us Geoffrey Rush as a delightfully unhinged theme park tycoon, Famke Janssen as his venomous wife, and a haunted asylum packed with gruesome secrets. We dig into the film's wild mix of campy performances, stylish set design, and early CGI ghost work — and debate whether it's genuinely terrifying or just gloriously over-the-top trash.Along the way, we talk behind-the-scenes stories, the creative team's vision, and how the movie helped kick off a short but memorable wave of high-concept horror remakes in the early 2000s.From unforgettable gore moments to that infamous Vincent Price-inspired smirk, we revisit House on Haunted Hill to decide if it's a haunted masterpiece, a guilty pleasure, or both.If you enjoyed this - Check out my other content here - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorrorBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast--4295531/support.
The 1990s were a strange time for horror. After the explosive boom of the '80s, the genre shifted, experimented, and evolved—sometimes darker, sometimes subtler, and sometimes downright unexpected. In this episode, we're counting down the three best horror novels of the 1990s, ranked not by opinion, but by the numbers. These rankings are powered by a formula that combines:1️⃣ Sales performance – which books stood the test of time on the shelves2️⃣ Award recognition – the critical acclaim and industry respect they earned3️⃣ Fan ratings – averaged from Goodreads, Amazon, and StorygraphThe result? A definitive look at the '90s horror novels that made the biggest impact, both then and now.

Tune in to hear all about what inspired this 1999 cult classic, what it was like working with its all-star cast so early in their careers, and the reason behind that very homoerotic popsicle scene we all loved.
