INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (2018) is a weird little movie that we believe didn't achieve what it originally intended to, but it still brought enough to the table for us to slash up and bleed out for you so join us this week as we talk dope doll-costumes, awesome isolated house set pieces, pastels, home invasions done right, BUT how ignorant writing can almost make a movie unwatchable... we're looking at you Pascal Laugier (look up "transphobia", sir.) Also, this movie has some insane behind-the-scenes drama involving a nasty accident with one of the main stars... we talk about that, too. Listen now! We love you all, and thanks for having us! Director Pascal Laugier made a name for himself with his French language film, MARTYRS (2008). Though his career hasn't taken off for a number of reasons, some of his films still have garnered a cult following by many horror fans. One of them, INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (2018), didn't generate the amount of talk as MARTYRS, but it definitely was noticed by core fans of the director.Colleen inherits a home from an aunt. Taking her two daughters, Beth and Vera, with her one night, they move into the remote farm home to begin a new life. But the evening they arrive, the two young teenagers read in the local newspaper of serial killings that have occurred in the local county. Unfortunately, there first day in the house may not be what they had expected.INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND has received mixed reviews for various reasons, including some of its subject matter as well as the twists that the director chose. Though somewhat forgotten by horror fans, the podcast crew have decided to take a look at this interesting movie and give their thoughts.

This week we're covering our second Pascal Laugier film, 2018's Incident in a Ghostland. C/W: misogyny, transphobia.Along for the ride is Blerdy Massacre co-host Xero Gravity, who joins us in getting increasingly aggravated with the Martyrs director the more we learn what he thinks he's doing with this film, which includes a lot of teen female abuse, a caricature trans woman villain and unabashed love for HP Lovecraft?!We're more forgiving of the twist, as well as the performances of Emilia Jones and Taylor Hickson (whose disfigurement on the film's set is another controversy Trace unpacks).Plus: TCM-meets-giallo production design, a sly police subversion, a groan-worthy typewriter and dolls everywhere.Reference: Robin Ono. “Horror and Transcendence: An Interview with Pascal Laugier” Rue MorgueQuestions? Announcing next month's films: IDENTITY (2003, James Mangold) - available for free on Netflix. INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (2018, dir. Pascal Laugier) - available free on Netflix. . . Sometimes, we tell ourselves stories to escape the cruelty of the real world. But what happens when the stories take over and we can no longer tell the difference between what's real and what's our own mind playing tricks on us? There's no wrong way to grieve, but there certainly is an unhealthy way. Say… calling on the power of demons/unknown cosmic forces to bring the dead back to life only to have them go on a murder spree. That's pretty unhealthy, don't you think? The Cadaver Dogs take a trip to the afterlife in this episode as they walk through the many examples of grief in two horror film staples. First up is the original Ari Aster movie HEREDITARY (starring Toni Colette, Gabriel Byrne, Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff, and indie film bae Ann Dowd.) We tackle the origins of the demon Paimon, voyeurism through filmmaking, misconceived spiritualism, and the concept of tragedy. Then, we take a not so big leap to Mary Lambert's PET SEMETARY (1989) adapted from Stephen King's novel. The dogs offer a fresh perspective on industrialism, gender representation of yore, Native American burial ground tropes, and just how much parents royally f*** up. Oh, and nominate Toni Collette, you cowards. . Up Next: IDENTITY (2003) / INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (2018) . Sometimes we find a diamond in the rough, then knock that polished bad boy out of the park like a Major League slugger. Then there are times like this were we find ourselves question not only the film, who created it, who it was created for, and why. This is the incident we are going to discuss. As Always thank you

We Monday'd the shit out of this episode. No prep work, no game plan. Just sit at the table and go. And we'll be damned if it didn't work. The true Modern Horrors way. The news kicks off with trailers, trailers, and more trailers. THE NUN gives us a glimpse into what we can expect. No surprise that it is gorgeous, but what is surprising is that attitudes have shifted towards the movie. Sticking with religious horror, we jaunt over to Ireland to check out the historical found-footage flick THE DEVIL'S DOORWAY. Sold out in just 20 seconds, SUSU has Beijing audiences very excited, while THE ROW is a slasher that has us less excited, but there's always a soft spot for Randy Couture. Finally, we check out UNFRIENDED: DARK WEB. But wait! There's more! Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch have started filming on their remake of PET SEMETARY (give the boys a chance we say). Highly anticipated SUMMER OF 84 and REVENGE both get release dates. And in news that we don't know what we're talking about, Ewan McGregor gets cast in Mike Flanagan's adaptation of DR SLEEP. This week we review INCIDENT IN A GHOSTLAND (or as you may find it, GHOSTLAND). A large portion of the fanbase has been clamoring for Pascal Laugier to return to his violent ways that we saw in the original MARTYRS. We explore whether or not this is another brutishly deep movie, or if we're in for another TALL MAN. Last but certainly not least, we play a game from deep in the archives. 3 names that were involved in a film. 1 guess. As always, thanks for the listens, shares, and reviews. You guys keep the show rolling! Also check out hypericon.net for information on how to see your favorite horror podcast live on July 7th!
