And on another busy day in Westminster, Adam is joined by the BBC's Vicki Young and Dominic Casciani to discuss the guilty verdict in the murder of Sir David Amess MP, the conviction of Wakefield MP, Imran Ahmad Khan, for sexual assault, and the ongoing row over the Chancellor's tax affairs. Today's Newscast was made by Tim Walklate, with Cordelia Hemming and Ben Cooper. The studio director was Emma Crowe. The assistant editor was Sam Bonham.
We speak to David Bowles, RSPCA Head of Public Affairs, about some of the causes supported by the late Sir David Amess who was MP for Southend West and a consistent champion of animal welfare throughout his long career. Sir David Amess MP was tragically killed earlier this year, although his legacy lives on. Join us in remembering a great advocate in Parliament against animal suffering who worked for decades alongside the RSPCA and other animal advocacy groups to enshrine animal welfare standards in law.

As the cold sets in here in the UK, we turn our attention to a region where something's always heating up. The three prongs to today's 'Middle East Analysis' podcast are the elections in Iraq, delayed from June, that have yielded some interesting results, the on-going, out-of-sight-out-of-mind conflict in Yemen - will the violence ever end and does the rest of the world care enough? Then we take a look at the eternally beleaguered Lebanon and some of the worst violence to hit the streets in the past ten years. But that's not all. A chunk of our hour-long podcast is given over to four reflections from the voice of 'Middle East Analysis', the international lawyer and MENA consultant Dr Harry Hagopian. Harry reflects on the death of Sir David Amess MP, the mysterious re-appearance in Damascus of Rifaat Ali al-Assad, uncle of Syrian President Bashar after almost four decades in exile in France. In his third reflection, we hear Dr Hagopian lament the falling salty sea levels of the Dead Sea and finally, Harry offers a warm welcome to the new Jordanian Ambassador Manar Munther Dabbas. The murder of Sir David Amess MP has shocked the political world deeply. With the threat level to MPs now assessed as “significant”, how will this terrible event affect the face-to-face contact with parliamentarians that British democracy depends upon? Plus, are the Government's voluminous climate change plans in shape for Boris Johnson's big moment at COP26? As energy prices soar, has the Government got its Net Zero tax sums rights? Tim Ross, executive editor (politics) of the New Statesman, is our special guest. “The mood in Westminster is incredibly sad… David Amess and also James Brokenshire were two of the nicest and kindest MPs.” – Tim Ross “If leaders want the public to treat MPs with respect, it needs to start from the top. We can't have Prime Ministers bashing Parliamentarians.” – Jill Rutter “What is driving this aggressive culture? There is a profound cynicism about Parliament – but most parliamentarians are decent people who are trying to help.” – Alice Lilley “I question whether the country cares enough about its democracy. Do we care enough to protect our MPs?" – Tim Ross “You can't spin shortages on the shelves as a brilliant idea.” – Giles Wilkes Presented by Bronwen Maddox with Alice Lilley, Jill Rutter and Giles Wilkes. She would not have become an MP were it not for her sister, Jo Cox who was murdered on a street in Birstall, West Yorkshire in 2016 by a white supremacist terrorist. Speaking to James one week after the killing of Sir David Amess MP, Kim Leadbeater questions how much has changed since her sibling's death. After fighting and winning a toxic campaign in her late sister's constituency of Batley and Spen, safety for politicians is an issue at the top of Leadbeater's agenda as she forms her own unique political voice and seeks to build what she describes as a more compassionate society.
Adam Boulton and guests discuss two types of risk this week. The risk to the public from Covid as ministers rule out introducing a Plan B to tackle rising cases of the virus - a decision which seems at odds with the advice from from the British Medical Association and the NHS Confederation. And the panel assess the risk to MPs and their safety as they remember Sir David Amess MP who died on October 15th.Joining Adam this week are the Conservative MP and member of the Covid Recovery Group, Harriett Baldwin; the Labour MP Angela Eagle and Sky's chief political correspondent Jon Craig.#AllOutPolitics
