Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:00 I saw Twisters. It was more of a rental, but I liked Glen Powell in it. Chandra is looking forward to the Olympics, particularly the tennis. I've been watching 48 Hours episodes on YouTube. Chandra likes watching Snapped with her mom. Politics: Minutes 4:00 to 18:00 Last week when we talked Biden was still in the race although there were calls for him to step down. We also heard he has covid. Some of the top democratic brass were calling for Biden to step down, including Pelosi and Obama. Biden submitted his resignation on Sunday, July 21. In his announcement he endorsed Kamala Harris. This was not what the people asking for him to step down had planned for. They wanted an open convention and voting, which would have led to chaos. The Democratic party lined up behind Kamala and by late Monday night she had enough delegates to secure the party's nomination. She raised a record $100 million in just two days after Biden stepped down. She also got endorsements from so many people, including the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, all the major democratic governors and many congresspeople. As of our recording on Thursday, July 25th at 2pm Eastern time, Barack Obama had not yet endorsed Kamala Harris. (He has since endorsed her, as I mentioned in an update.) We like how the Clintons supported Biden and endorsed Harris quickly. There's a groundswell of support for Harris. We both gave money to her campaign. We appreciate how enthusiastically Biden endorsed Harris. The tagline “We're not going back” is so good. Trump is thinking of dumping Vance as his running mate. We doubt that they even vetted Vance. Vance has a long history of saying terrible sh-t. One of the big stories this week was when people brought back comments Vance made in 2021-22 about “childless cat ladies” who are running the Democratic party. Jennifer Aniston clapped back at that. We wonder when Taylor Swift will endorse Harris. Royals: Minutes 18:00 to 25:45 This week the big news is that the Invictus Games are going to be in Birmingham in 2027. At lot of us were shocked because it seems so unsafe for Harry and Meghan to go back to the UK. There are three years until that happens and it seems premature to speculate about it. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about the royals. We hope they have great security in Birmingham. Chandra hopes Meghan will never go back there but I think she'll go to support Harry. Prince Harry was interviewed as part of the ITV documentary, Tabloids on Trial, which aired this week. He talked about the press portraying his mother as paranoid when she was being hacked. His own brother called their mother paranoid in his 2021 statement on the Dyson investigation into Martin Bashir's interview with Diana. We talked about that in episode 130. I play a segment from Harry's interview. Harry is so diplomatic and explains what happened to him so well. We hope that he knows that his family is behind the press attacks on him. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:45 to end Kaiser's comment of the week is from Lurker M on the post about Biden's address to the nation. My comment of the week is from Lightpurple on Kismet's post covering June Squibb's interview. Thanks for listening bitches!
This week, Jacki and Lyle are back with a follow-up to their preview of the Netflix film, Scoop, starring Gillian Anderson, Billie Piper and Rufus Sewell. Based on the book of the same name by Sam McAlister, played by Piper, this Netflix drama did not disappoint as it recreated the story of one of the most notorious television interviews in history - Emily Maitlis and her interview with Prince Andrew regarding his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and allegations of sexual abuse towards young women being trafficked by Epstein. Jacki and Lyle both praise the fantastic performances of the central cast, with Anderson as Maitlis, Piper as McAlister, Sewell as Prince Andrew and Keeley Hawes as Andrew's private secretary Amanda Thirsk all drawing particular acclaim. Jacki asks for Lyle's opinion on how Maitlis' character was depicted in the film, before assessing how Andrew represents what many in the PR industry would describe as a 'problematic client', with reference to his insistence on going about things his own way rather than listen to experts around him. Lyle draws comparisons between how it would appear McAlister obtained this interview and how Martin Bashir secured his interview with Diana, with the former seemingly working with Andrew's team to help them towards what they felt was the best course of action, and the latter having recently been found to have used manipulative tactics to coerce the then Princess of Wales into being interviewed. Jacki ultimately questions, with reference to the Netflix drama, why the Palace elected to press ahead with the Newsnight interview with little to none of their own conditions put in place, with Lyle asking whether this can be considered a turning point in securing the future of the programme itself.Artwork by DimosoMusic by Lyle FultonGet in touch via lyle@dimoso.com or info@dimoso.comMore information at www.dimoso.com and www.therestispr.comFollow us on Twitter - @TheRestIsPR Hosted on Acast. Coming up today: We hit 1,000 downloads - whoop whoop! It was a big week for William after receiving his Covid vaccine and dealing with the findings from the investigation into the Panorama interview with Diana, Princess of Wales and Martin Bashir. He stepped up as High Commissioner at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. And brought the Heads Up campaign to the world of sport during a football engagement. He was seen driving an electric racing car And headed to Queens Bay Lodge Care home where he was caught flirting with 95 year old, Betty. Catherine took to the DJ decks And the competitive side of the Cambridges took hold during a healthy competition of yachting
A packed episode featuring two of Britain's most determined investigators. Andy Webb returns to the podcast to tell Andrew and Phil of new developments in his long-running battle to uncover the truth behind Martin Bashir's interview with Diana, Princess of Wales. Newly released BBC emails - some heavily redacted - reveal the scale of a 25 year cover up and shine new light on the case, including the disgraced reporter's belief that his critics are motivated by professional jealousy or even racism. Andy also has some harsh words on the conduct of the BBC governors. If they had asked tougher questions at the time, could the course of Diana's life have been changed for the better? We then meet ex MP Norman Baker, one of the most dogged investigators to have ever worked in Britain's House of Commons. He's led a thirty year battle to uncover the truth about BA flight 149, which flew into Kuwait during Saddam Hussein's invasion of that country in 1990, leaving its passengers to become hostages. Was the flight allowed to land despite the obvious dangers in order to insert a special forces team? Bakes believes that he can prove that it was. Norman also discusses his investigative work on the hugely controversial death of government WMD scientist David Kelly, and his belief that the investigation into it was badly compromised, and his probes into royal finances and MP's expenses. You can buy Norman's books at the Scandal Monger's own bookstore, along with thousands of others. The circumstances surrounding the securing of the Panorama interview with the late Princess of Wales have been one of the biggest controversies to beset the BBC. On this week's programme we're taking stock on the imminent release of emails by the BBC which concerns its handling of the Martin Bashir scandal. There has been quite a battle in the courts as the Corporation attempts to withhold and redact some of the emails requested under the Freedom of Information act by that very determined journalist and film maker Andy Webb. We talk to him about his fight, what he thinks he might learn from the emails and despite an apology from the director general Tim Davie to Lord Spencer why he thinks this matter is still worth pursuing. “I'm interested in what I alleged to be a cover up which was instituted in 2020. But more to the point, it is, if indeed, this cover up exists, it's a cover up that is being fostered very, very expensively at the public expense, in as much as the licence fee is public money, it is happening now. This is huge sums of money which are being spent now, in order to prevent, in my view, the disclosure of these particular emails.”Support the podcast and hear it first by signing up hereListen to all the published podcasts here@BeebRoger@RogerBolton@mastodonapp.ukemail: roger@rogerboltonsbeebwatch.com Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Jackson's charitable efforts and public appearances become crude punchlines. Attempting to reign in the narrative and gain sympathy, Jackson agrees to allow British journalist Martin Bashir to film his private life -- a terrible miscalculation which results in a new, criminal investigation into the singer.

We talk with two renowned playwrights about their new plays – both on for a short run and neither of them to be missed. Roger McGough, the much-loved author, Mersey poet and presenter of BBC Radio Four's ‘Poetry Please', has adapted Molière's ‘The Hypochondriac' for The Crucible in Sheffield. It's already opened to rave reviews, with Edward Hogg starring as Argan. Jonathan Maitland, journalist and broadcaster turned playwright, has written ‘The Interview', a play about Princess Diana's interview with Martin Bashir, which opens on 27th October at The Park in London for a short run. Roger McGough tells us how he came to adapt Molière's 17th century classic and transform it into a comic delight for contemporary audiences. He also looks back at his time with The Scaffold, his fellow Mersey Poets, Brian Patten and the late Adrian Henri (‘The Mersey Sound' has sold over a million copies) and regales us with tales of working on the script of ‘Yellow Submarine'. Jonathan Maitland, who shared an office with Martin Bashir at ITV for six years, tells us why now why is such a good time to examine Princess Diana's legacy afresh and look again at our very polarised, if not frenzied, reactions to Martin Bashir and the way the now notorious interview, watched by over 23 million in the UK alone, came about. ‘The Hypochondriac' at The Crucible, Sheffield: until 21st October ‘The Interview' at The Park: 27th October till 5th November With thanks to Lomi for supporting us over the last six episodes. According to Spain's Labour Inspectorate Ryanair violated the right of workers to strike earlier in the year, when it used so called “scab” labour. Business Secretary Grant Shapps today acknowledged 'national security' fears led to taxpayers' cash being used to end China's involvement in the Sizewell C nuclear power plant. Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Shapps boasted the Government's £700million investment in the controversial Suffolk project would help create thousands of jobs and shore up Britain's energy security. The US Air Force is planning to unveil the most advanced aircraft ever created early next month after spending nearly $203 billion on the program. The B-21 Raider stealth bomber will be unveiled at the Northrop Grumman facility in Palmdale, California, on December 2.The bomber was designed to carry out long-range bombing and nuclear missions employing cutting edge stealth technologies. No one at the BBC could understand how the disgraced journalist Martin Bashir got his job as religious affairs editor after he hoodwinked Princess Diana for his Panorama interview, Radio 4 presenter Samira Ahmed has claimed. Writing in the Radio Times, she said workers were 'puzzled' as to how Bashir - who has since been criticised by the broadcaster for faking bank statements that persuaded Diana to give him an interview in 1995 - managed to get the position in 2016.
On the 9th of October 1986, Karen Hadaway and Nicola Fellows returned home from school, running through the front doors of their respective homes, eager to get changed and play outside. Around 5 pm, the girls played with friends outside a neighbor's house. Shortly after this, the girls headed to Wild Park; despite knowing they were not allowed there, Nicola was told by her parents that the “boogeyman” lived there, hoping to scare her away from ever entering. Sadly, for unknown reasons, the girls entered the park that afternoon. The girls were spotted around 5:15 pm by a park policeman, playing on some trees, who warned them that they would hurt themselves. As the afternoon turned into evening, both families began to worry. 8 pm was their bedtime, and they both knew to be home by then, but there was no sign of either of them. If you are currently watching "The Crown" on Netflix, you absolutely want to hear this conversation. Patrick Jephson, former private secretary to the late Princess Diana, joins Michael to set the record straight on the 1995 interview that Martin Bashir conducted with Lady Di, where Jephson was thrown under the bus - a move the BBC finally, recently apologized for. Original air date 02 December 2022.
This episode has been a long time coming. I was a big fan of Holly Ross' teenage band Angelica. I'm an even bigger fan of the band she's been in for the last sixteen years, the Lancaster based duo The Lovely Eggs. Comprising Holly and husband David Blackwell – but not their son, I repeat, not their son – the group are a band whose sometimes funny, sometimes sweet, always loud and exciting songs, always make their way onto mixtapes I might be making, while 2020's excellent sixth record, I Am Moron is - and this is the scientific term for it - a total bloody hoot. As I say, this conversation has been in the making for ages and ages now, but we're all busy people. Holly and David have a child, as well as a 24/7 DIY punk rock operation to maintain. We fit this conversation in just before Holly had to go do the school run in fact. But it's a fun 40 minutes, which goes into some interesting places; death, the brilliance of books, existentialism, the problem with Gen Z, and I believe that at one point I call Martin Bashir a shit. Which I stand by, by the way…Join the Substack!
An internecine conflict at the heart of the BBC between its Chairman and Director General provides the modernising DG, John Birt, with the ammunition he needs to sign off on Bashir's Panorama interview with Princess Diana. With Prince William settling in at Eton, he and the Queen start to have regular 'teas' together and the Queen realises William is concerned about his mother. But neither of them is prepared for what comes out in Diana's explosive Panorama interview. In this episode, Edith Bowman continues her discussion with Director Erik Richter-Strand, and talks with Archive Producer Victoria Stable, Head of Research Annie Sulzberger, and the actor portraying Martin Bashir, Prasanna Puwanarajah. The Crown: The Official Podcast is produced by Netflix and Somethin' Else, in association with Left Bank Pictures.
Newly separated and with Prince William now gone to Eton, Diana feels lonely and stuck in no man's land between marriage and divorce. Increasingly paranoid that Prince Charles's team is briefing against her, she is susceptible to the manoeuvres of BBC journalist, Martin Bashir, who wants to land an interview with the Princess for the Panorama programme. Having recently met and fallen for a Pakistani heart surgeon, Hasnat Khan, Diana starts to wonder if by doing the interview, she'll have a newfound freedom she longs for.In this episode, Edith Bowman talks with Director, Erik Richter Strand, Costume Designers Amy Roberts and Sidonie Roberts, Head of Research, Annie Sulzberger, and the actor behind Princess Diana, Elizabeth Debicki. The Crown: The Official Podcast is produced by Netflix and Somethin' Else, in association with Left Bank Pictures.

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:30 We'll have an episode out next week and will be off on August 20th. I went axe throwing and I hated it! Chandra's cat was playing with a lizard. Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 19 We heard that Prince Charles accepted a million pounds from the bin Laden family in 2013. This comes after news that Charles got 2.5 million pounds in cash in literal suitcases between 2011 to 2015 from a shady Qatari politician. Charles' excuse was that his charity accepted the money, despite the fact that he met with the bin Laden family and brokered the deal. His justification was that it would be rude to turn down the money. It's not likely there will be a criminal bribery investigation. We talk about a blind item story we chose not to cover directly. Instead we linked to coverage from Lainey and Just Jared. The most interesting angle about that was the BI suggested that the prince has moved on from his former mistress to a new girlfriend who is London-based. William and Kate went to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with Princess Charlotte this week. The big news was that Kate wasn't wearing her engagement ring, although she's still wearing her wedding ring. We also heard that, like their appearance at Wimbledon, they arrived separately. William and Charlotte took a helicopter there and Kate took the train, where she chatted with a child. It really looks like they're living apart now. Kate is also covering People Magazine with a sugary story about how she's learned so much from Queen Elizabeth and is ready to be queen. It's all about Kate because covers with William don't sell. There's a new documentary coming to HBO called The Princess, which just is archival footage of Princess Diana. The BBC agreed last week to never again air footage from Princess Diana's Panorama interview after pressure from Prince William. The Dyson investigation, which found that Diana was tricked by Martin Bashir to give the interview, was completed in May, 2021. The BBC was recently sued by Tiggy Legge-Bourke, a royal nanny whom Diana claimed had an affair with Charles. Prince William mischaracterized that interview after the Dyson investigation. Diana's biographer, Andrew Morton, gave a recent interview stating that Diana didn't say anything to Bashir she hadn't already told her friends. Omid Scobie said the same thing in his column, that William is trying to muzzle his late mother and that the royal family still has the same issues Diana brought up. Dane Cook: Minutes 19 to 22 Dane Cook is a 50-year-old comic who was in a movie with Jessica Simpson and is known for stealing jokes. He just got engaged to a 23-year-old woman named Kelsi Taylor who he's been with for five years, so from the minute she was legal. People are really side-eyeing their relationship now that they're engaged because he mentioned them being “friends first” and meeting her at one of his game nights before she was 18. At least she has a job and friends outside of the relationship. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Comments of the Week: Minutes 22 to end My comment of the week is from TarteAuCitron on the post about Donald Trump burying Ivana on his golf course in New Jersey. Chandra's comment of the week is from dina on the post about Kansas voters upholding abortion rights. Thanks for listening bitches!

Princess Diana shocked the world when, in 1995, she appeared on BBC TV and spoke about her failing marriage, her husband's affair, and an alleged royal campaign against her. The public were mesmerized by the Princess's honesty. And the journalist who interviewed Diana, Martin Bashir, was praised for landing the scoop of the century. It wasn't until twenty five years later that the world learned about the web of lies and deception behind the interview. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Today's Oddcast - Queen of Hearts (Airdate 3/21/2022) Four days ago the BBC acknowledged that the explosive 1995 interview of the late Princess Diana by journalist Martin Bashir was obtained by deceitful means. This is the interview that rocked the monarchy, sent shockwaves around the world, and nearly ruined the life of Princess Diana's private secretary, Patrick Jephson. The BBC paid substantial damages to Jephson and apologized for the harm done. Looking back at this heart-rending interview, listening to the late Princess Diana talking about fate and the future raises the hair on the back of your neck. So much has changed since this interview first aired...and yet so much of this story feels exactly as Princess Diana called it.
