The verdict is in. Brendan Banfield has been found guilty of aggravated murder in Fairfax County, Virginia. The former IRS special agent was convicted Monday in the February 2023 deaths of his wife Christine Banfield, 37, and Joseph Ryan, 39 — a man prosecutors say was catfished on a fetish website and lured to the family home as part of an elaborate murder plot.The jury of five men and seven women deliberated nearly nine hours over two days. They heard from 34 witnesses across three weeks of testimony, including the most damning account of all: Juliana Peres Magalhães, the family's au pair and Banfield's mistress, who told jurors she helped execute the plan and watched Banfield stab his wife.Magalhães originally faced second-degree murder charges. She struck a deal — plead to manslaughter, testify against Banfield, walk out with time served. The defense called her "bought and paid for" and attacked her credibility at every turn. They pointed out Banfield's DNA wasn't on the knife. They challenged the investigation as biased and the digital evidence as flawed.None of it worked. The jury believed the au pair.Under Virginia law, aggravated murder carries mandatory life without parole. Banfield, 40, will never leave prison. His four-year-old daughter — who was in the basement of the house during the killings — is now seven. (This episode was recorded before the tragic murder of ICU nurse Alex Pretti by ICE in Minneapolis today). On Tuesday, ICE detained a 5 year old boy in Minneapolis. They grabbed him in the driveway of his home after he came home from pre-school, and used him as bait to capture his father. He has now been kidnapped by ICE, and is being held with his father inside an ICE facility in Texas, likely inside the notorious cages we've seen so many pictures of. On this episode of The Siren Podcast, Jo is joined by Miles Taylor, founder of DEFIANCE.org. Miles told us some shocking details about Stephen Miller's role in ICE's kidnapping of children, and how their cruelty here is intentional: “You what was Stephen Miller trying to do? And what I was told, and this is again, early days of the Trump administration, what I was told is there were plans at the White House to implement a deliberate policy of child separation at the border to rip a kid away from a parent as a means of deterrence, so that if you were thinking about coming to this country, you would think twice because the US government would rip your child from you. So it was intentional.” Liam Ramos is just one of at least four children, all from the same school district, who have been detained this month by ICE, according to school officials. The knee-jerk reaction of MAGA and the Trump regime was to call this five year old child an “illegal alien.” Yes, a five year old. According to Marc Prokosch, the family's lawyer, “They came properly. They came legally, and are pursuing a legal pathway.” But honestly, talking about their legal status isn't important anymore. Because ICE doesn't care who is and isn't a U.S. citizen. Last Sunday, ICE broke down the door of an elderly Hmong immigrant and naturalized U.S. citizen with no criminal record. They brought him outside in the freezing cold with no clothes on, and proceeded to drive him around before realizing he was a U.S. citizen. All in front of his now traumatized grandson. We've also seen ICE tackling and pepper spraying journalists and pregnant mothers, all of whom are citizens. And of course, ICE shot Renee Nicole Good in broad daylight, and then proceeded to deny her medical care for eight minutes while she died. And now, an ICE whistleblower has leaked a secret memo written by ICE leadership, meant to be hidden from the public, detailing how ICE agents were verbally given the ability to violate the fourth amendment, saying agents can “forcibly enter into certain people's homes without a judicial warrant.” And get this: Even DHS's own training materials say this is directly unconstitutional. The son of Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner is being held on suspicion of the murder of his parents. Police say 32-year-old Nick Reiner's been booked for murder after Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home. They say he's a suspect in the case and is being held on a US$4 million bail. US Correspondent Richard Arnold told Heather du Plessis-Allan that Reiner and his wife had apparently taken their son to a holiday party, where he had apparently been disruptive, the day before their bodies were found. 55year old Billy Burns found guilty of the murder of hid mother in Co. Kerry has been sentenced to life in prison. Our reporter Sharon Lynch was in court this morning.

A mother convicted of murdering her two young children will remain behind bars for at least 17 years, after her sentencing in Auckland today. Hakyung Lee was found guilty by a jury of murdering eight-year-old Yuna Jo and six-year-old Minu Jo earlier this year. She concealed their bodies inside suitcases, hidden inside a storage locker, before leaving the country. The children were discovered almost four years later after the contents of the locker was bought in an online auction. At sentencing, Lee's family spoke of the immense anguish the murders have caused. Finn Blackwell reports.

Yesterday a jury at the Central Criminal Court unanimously convicted 55-year-old Billy Burns with an address in Arlington Lodge, Tralee of murdering his 75-year-old mother Miriam, rejecting his claim that he should be found not guilty by reason of insanity having strangled her to death at her home in Ardshanavooley, Killarney three years ago while suffering a manic episode related to bipolar disorder. The jury accepted the prosecution's case that the cause of his killing his mother was not mental illness but his "long-term abuse of drugs and alcohol" and anger towards her.
