A Conversation with Boris Johnson at The Saudi Media Forum. Thank you to the Ministry of Media in Saudi Arabia for arranging this. Boris Johnson is a British politician, journalist, and author who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2019 to 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, he was previously the Mayor of London (2008–2016) and a Member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (2015–2023). Known for his charismatic and sometimes controversial style, Johnson played a key role in the Brexit campaign and led the UK through its formal departure from the EU. His tenure as Prime Minister was marked by major events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic challenges, and the Partygate scandal, which contributed to his eventual resignation in 2022. 0:00 Intro1:09 Saudi Arabia's Rapid Development6:10 From Journalism to Politics10:00 Challenges in Modern Political Communication12:00 “Unleashed” and the Brexit Vision19:00 Vision 203021:00 Regional Geopolitics and Peace Efforts24:00 Media Relationship 26:44 Final Thoughts and Messages

Recorded pre US election, this episode begins with tributes to two greats who died this week. Music producer, Quincy Jones and comedian, Janey Godley, who famously detested Trump. There is a wonderful clip made by BBC Scotland News which encapsulates her beautifully. Quincy Jones is 'pudding' and we learn what the greatest advice he ever heard was. The main focus of this episode is the latest anointing of a new Tory leader. Kemi Badenoch has beaten Robert Jenrick and is the first black woman in the role. Jemma and Marina are interested to find out what a Nigerian politics show are making of it. Meanwhile, Badenoch isn't exactly covering herself with glory on the Laura Kuenssberg show. Partygate? Overblown. Really? As for her cabinet, the words 'barrel' and 'scraping' spring to mind. Nixon initially tried to cover up his involvement, but his secret recordings of Oval Office meetings were subpoenaed by the Supreme Court, leading to his downfall. The Watergate scandal significantly impacted US politics, fostering widespread public distrust in politics and politicians. After his dramatic rise to power in the summer of 2019 amid the Brexit deadlock, Boris Johnson presided over the most turbulent period of British history in living memory. Beginning with the controversial prorogation of Parliament in August and the historic landslide election victory later that year, Johnson was barely through the door of No. 10 when Britain was engulfed by a series of crises that will define its place in the world for decades to come. From the agonising upheaval of Brexit and the devastating Covid-19 pandemic to the nerve-shredding crisis in Afghanistan, the outbreak of war in Ukraine and the Partygate scandal, Johnson's government ultimately unravelled after just three years. Anthony Seldon and Raymond Newell's book Johnson at 10: The Inside Story (Atlantic Books, 2023) maps Johnson's time in power from start to finish and sheds new light on the most divisive Prime Minister to have led the United Kingdom since Thatcher. Based on more than 200 interviews with key aides, allies and insiders, Johnson at 10 gives the first full account of Johnson's premiership, the shockwaves of which are still felt today. Charles Coutinho, PH. D., Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, received his doctorate from New York University.
