For nearly a decade, almost as long as we've been doing this podcast, Stickman Brews has been the unequivocal purveyor of the finest beers in Southeastern Pennsylvania. As of October 2023, this, like all good things, has come to an end. In all seriousness, Ethan Buckman – the inimitable proprietor and brewer for Stickman – along with partners Jim Buckman and Kate Sorrento, and many other fine folks who worked to make Stickman the unique endeavor that it was, have joined the ranks of our most loved and appreciated friends in the industry. We sit down this episode with Ethan for his “exit interview” to discuss the factors and decisions that lead to the closing, the state of the beer industry (and food and beverage generally) and where it may be headed, and of course some ruminations on what the future may hold for Ethan. While we are sad to see the end of Stickman Brews, the friendships we made along the way will endure, and we are certain there are great things coming from everyone who was a part of the Stickman team. We are paying tribute to one of the OG breweries to the podcast. Stickman Brews was our first brewer guest and a constant meeting place for us. They announced their closing recently and we felt it was only right to give them a proper send off. So…did you miss us? Sorry for the unanticipated hiatus. Unfortunately, Dan suffered a pretty gnarly injury involving alcohol, golf, and a tree. Thankfully, he's well on the way to recovery and, after some much needed healing time, we're ready to get back to it. And who better to remind us how we do this thing than perennial favorite friend-of-the-show Ethan Buckman, proprietor of Stickman Brews, maker of the finest beer in Southeastern Pennsylvania (and possibly beyond). We hear the tale of Dan's fateful photo op, discuss the Stickman Revolution, have an impromptu Mooey Moment, and catch up with the news at Stickman, including the renovation in Rofo. All this plus Happy Fun Time returns with a game of There's Weird in My Beer. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! Perennial podcast pontificator Ethan Buckman, proprietor of Pennsylvania's own Stickman Brews, joins us this episode to…well, here are his own words: “I've got a lot to say and I'm hoping you will let me once again take this lovely thing you have made and co-opt it entirely for my own.” Those lots of things to say were about lagers, including addressing some comments made on our past lager-centric episodes. This one gets pretty deep in the weeds on the technical aspects of brewing, Ethan and Steph touch upon several insightful topics and Wayne and Dan try to keep up. With varying levels of success. But, it's not all pH and Plato, we of course play a Happy Fun Time Game, one that is appropriate for a much beloved and oft-appearing guest, the much-beloved and oft appearing Libation or Fabrication. Also, Dan and Wayne accidentally drank a barleywine. It was Tuesday. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! We're joined this episode by our longtime friend and frequent podcast guest, Ethan Buckman from Stickman Brews. We chat about what's new with Stickman, Ethan's new venture, False Bottom Spirits, and a number of other things of varying degrees of randomness. In Happy Fun Time, Wayne hosted a round of the rarely-seen Brewery or Forgery, in which Dan, Steph, and Ethan compete to see who can spot the fake brewery names among the real. Also, we drank some Stickman beers. On a more serious note, this episode we announce the details of the upcoming Brews and Bands for Bart block party fundraiser at Tattered Flag Brewery to benefit Bart Kaminski, founder of Hop Hedz, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He has been responding very well to treatment and maintained his trademark high spirits, but the medical bills are adding up. If you don't know Bart or Hop Hedz, you have definitely seen his work if you've spent any time drinking beer in Pennsylvania or beer from our state. Bart has been a huge presence in PA craft beer for many years, designing beer themed apparel and merchandise as well as providing graphic design and branding for more breweries than you can count, plus planning and facilitating beer events of all kinds. More importantly, he is an amazing human being who has positively affected the lives of countless people, including us at Beer Busters. More detail in this episode, and we will soon be devoting an entire episode to this event, chatting with Tattered Flag, Hop Hedz, and Dean Pierce, a homebrewer and general beer guy who helped put this all together. One of our favorite pandemic activities is getting goofy with our good friend Ethan Buckman, Co-Owner and Brewer at Stickman Brews. In this episode we chat about Stickman’s new experimental series, selling beer to go, supporting small businesses, and (mostly) random conversations that straddle the line between poignant and absurd. In Happy Fun Time, Wayne hosted a round of Bad Beer Reviews, the game all about the crazy things people write on BeerAdvocate.com. Also, we tried something new…look for the video version of the episode’s Happy Fun Time Game on our YouTube channel (yes, we do have a YouTube channel – we almost forgot too.) All this and more, while we partake of a generous array of Stickman Brews. (We also mentioned Dan's recent standup performance, which you can watch here if you're into that sort of thing. Dan starts at 51:42 but you should watch the other comics too!) Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! Dan and Tom interview @crafty_tats, aka Zeppe, and @pint-size-leah, aka Leah to discuss their recent proposal...what does this have to do with craft beer you ask? Zeppe created a craft beer label that said "Will you marry me?" and had Stickman Brews place the label on a can of craft beer. Great interview and a feel good story in another chaotic week in our great country. We also discuss a bold Shitlord who got called out for charging a lot of money for a 2 ounce pour of great beer...acceptable or despicable? You decide. All this and more on another episode of America The BREW-tiful.

On today's episode, I sit down with Ethan from Stickman Brews in Royersford, PA. Just a warning... this was probably the funniest episode to date. Ethan shares his story of how a dorm room at the University of Pittsburgh sparked his passion for brewing, why he chose to open Stickman, the story behind the name, and so much more.
Quarantine continues, we’re all stuck at home, but the podcast must go on! Since we’ve started this series of socially distant episodes, we’ve made a point to have guests on that we know well, really get along with, and that we can count on to keep us laughing. Few people fit those requirements quite as well as Ethan Buckman, co-founder of Stickman Brews. Unfortunately, our field-promoted, honorary fourth Beer Busters, Kevin Keller, couldn’t join us for this one. But, we soldier on and engage in riveting conversations about dick pics, creamy cocktails, Oreo beer, and the worst Wawa in America. We also talked about Stickman’s work with Laurel House and their Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a Men’s March Against Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence. Steph reported on the Sly Fox Bock Fest and Goat Race going digital. And Dan took over the job of Happy Fun Time Games host and lead us in a round of Stay the Fuck Inside, a drinking game made for social distancing, and supporting COVID-19 relief, including proceeds donation to Meals on Wheels. We drank, we laughed, we forgot about how crazy the world is for a little while. Hopefully this episode can help you do the same. Cheers. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! Honestly, we could podcast here every episode. In fact, our guest and one of our favorite people in the beer industry, Ethan from Stickman Brews, has his own podcast. It’s called Bad Beer and High Prices and features Ethan and partners Jim and Kate. You should check it out. You should also listen to this episode of Beer Busters. Unfortunately, the rest of the crew were ailing and couldn’t join us. But, Ethan is more than enough for an episode chock full of honesty, ranting, and laughter. We discuss Untappd, Yelp, selling out, the prevalence of drugs in the food/beverage industry, and much more. Dan reported on the news, including the acquisition of Press Seltzers by Constellation Brands. Wayne hosted round two of There’s Weird in My…Booze in Happy Fun Time. Our wandering podcast found itself once again at the home of Stickman Brews in Royersford, PA. This time we got both Buckman boys on the mics at the same time along with partner-in-crime Kate Sorrento. As per usual, our conversation was dominated by thoughtful, in-depth, and at times depressing, discussion on the current state and future of beer. We also argued about Wawa versus Sheetz food and made many juvenile jokes. Dan dropped some knowledge with the return of the Brewers Association Top 50 Breweries List. In Happy Fun Time we played another round of Libation or Fabrication with content courtesy of our patron James Lamberg. And Steph presented, appropriately, Know Your (Hazy) Beers, with the rundown of the newest, trendy, vague, BJCP categories that are all about that joose. And, of course, we sipped on a variety of Stickman offerings that conjured up a litany of very mixed emotions. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! Back at Stickman Brews again, and once again New England IPAs feature prominently in our discussion. This time, it’s because they brewed one…what?! I know, we were a bit shocked too. Ethan wasn’t event there to defend himself. Scandalous. But, seriously, it was pretty tasty, and it was a collaboration with our good friends at Hop Hedz. It’s called Double Deuce, and this evening was the release party. Kate Sorrento returned to the show along with Jim Buckman, who took up the mantle from Ethan on awesome beer discussion. Founder of Hop Hedz, Bart Kaminski, was also on hand to defend why he chose this particularly trendy (and contentious) beer style for the collab. As usual, Dan talked about the latest in brew news, we played a Stickman-inspired version of Libation or Fabrication, and Steph – continuing the theme of divisive beer styles – discussed Pumpkin Beers in Know Your Beers. Luckily, there was plenty of delicious liquid on hand.
In this episode, Geoff sits down with cousins, Ethan & Jim Buckman, to discuss their mission to remove the pretense from the brewing industry and give brewing back to the people. Their desire to ignite a passion for brewing in the hearts of the every-man, or “Stickman” as it were, is the inspiration behind the … Continue reading "Podcast S01Ep04: Ethan & Jim Buckman of Stickman Brews" The post Podcast S01Ep04: Ethan & Jim Buckman of Stickman Brews appeared first on Discover SPRINGFORD.
Kate Sorrento and Ethan Buckman at Stickman Brews We return to Stickman Brews in Royersford, PA once again to chat with brewer and returning guest Ethan, as well as newcomer to the podcast Kate. Topics include the development of the Stickman brand, the expansion of their barrel program and a lengthy and in-depth discussion about the state of craft beer consumer-hood. Ethan certainly had a ton of insightful things to say and this episode is worth a listen for that conversation alone. We played The Beer Seller in Happy Fun Time and Steph talked about the Helles Bock style in Know Your Beers. And there was beer…and we drank it…and it was good. Want more Beer Busters?
