What is it like being in a game where you are losing 79-0, or it ends 100-12? What's it like being in the AF1, your floundering sponsorship from the Hulkster holding you hostage, forcing you to watch your team get obliterated by a QB who completes 10 passes, 7 for touchdowns, for a robust 110 yards? Do you look at everything that led you to this moment: the tears on the HS practice field, the brutal Summer training sessions in college, the letdowns on practice squads with the NFL, the XFL, the UFL? Now you're here on the field for the East Kansas Pork Butts and you're losing by 100 points. Where did it go wrong? You fell into that well that one time and hit your head and discovered a bunch of 70s porno mags. Maybe that was it? It was after you'd done really bad at figuring out the Untappd ratings for a bunch of grocery store beers or something? Maybe that was the moment. But now you're in the locker room of the Buttman Arena and no one is there to interview you after the game. A gen AI model generates some quotes that you didn't say and slaps them into a shitty article by a fake man named Lyle Biscuit. Yeast is arguably the most important ingredient in beer, and it's usually the least recognized, so we brought in the experts to chat about it. Richard and Nate, Co-Founders of Ontario's premier yeast establishment, Escarpment Labs, joined Cee and Nate to get hyper nerdy about yeast and what it exactly is, how yeast is created and how it interacts with the other ingredients in beer, how they came up with their Pink Boots yeast strain, how yeast helps retain haze, how they create a bank of yeast, how non-alcoholic yeast works, their merger with Le Labo in Quebec and the differentiation between the two companies, how they work with Lallemand yeast, why Canadian breweries should use Canadian yeast, how to make Vegemite with yeast, and why breweries should buy professional yeast for their beers. They got into some great beers using their products - Fairweather x BAOS Podcast Purish Kiwi Common, Royal City x Escarpment Labs Luminance Double IPA, Royal City Mark It Zero Non-Alcoholic IPA, and Great Lakes Electric Spritz Hard Seltzer. What if there were a super league for the NCAA Tournament? Like, they took 8 teams that were just too good for the real thing and faced them off against each other. That would rock, and we did that today on the Beer Engine Pod.Also, we took down the dead pope and absolutely did not make it political! I made a live bet on the Nuggets. And some of our favorites are now top 50 breweries due to attrition. Tony is stuck in the well all week?? What's he gonna do down there?!? ★ Support this podcast ★
It's so special having Rick Martinez on the show to talk about his very fun new book, Salsa Daddy. Rick is the author of the best-selling cookbook Mi Cocina: Recipes and Rapture from My Kitchen in Mexico, and Salsa Daddy is just as delicious. It's a salsa-first approach to cooking, with more than 70 salsa recipes that anchor 24 meals, from torta de Milanesa to pozole verde de pollo, and I can already tell it's going to change my cooking for the better. Also on the show, I chat with author Emma Christensen about the joy of brewing boozy drinks at home with help from her great new cookbook: Hard Seltzer, Iced Tea, Kombucha, and CiderDo you enjoy This Is TASTE? Greetings fellow pizza eaters and beer drinkers. Ah, mine pizza needeth 10 more minutes! Shan't we enjoy a flagon of ale to cure our ails? Thine titular ethos are becoming quite the pedant in thine pantaloons! (Is that something?)This week - some basketball had to be recapped as some of the basketball teams of great engines of the Beer Episode past had to be covered. The Arena Football season trudges on with an all Kansas showdown. Griff wins the pizza group by eating the world's thinnest “pie” and “za” and Tony goes full woke mode with prosciutto. Ultimately, they reach the final showdown and most important question the podcast has ever asked - which beer is better? Toohey's Extra Dry or Hahn Premium Special Dry Light??? We'll never know. ★ Support this podcast ★

Well, I'll be! That is one extremely low rated beer by the Miller Brewing Company. Congrats! Today we talked about Tony's time at GABS, how to order food for takeout for the future and Australian triple doublers. Griff is back on the pastry stouts and Michael's Pizza, it's like 2018 all over again on this show! Then there is this week's bracket, which features some of the saddest beers you can buy at the Dollar General. ★ Support this podcast ★
Looks like the Beer Engine Pod wasn't the only ones out there doing a bracket. The fine City of Chicago and their elusive Mayor have selected their favorite pizza place and it is the Pizza Group's most beloved spot. You'll just have to listen to find out. Anyways we also had some beers this week, Griff went psycho mode on Beers of the Week and a fun region in the bracket game that will have you enjoying some precious memories. ★ Support this podcast ★
One of our favourite beer scenes on the planet is the glorious state of North Carolina, and this past winter, we were lucky enough to visit twice. On the way down to Florida, we swung by Raleigh, NC, and our first stop was Funguys Brewing, an innovation-driven spot that came highly recommended by friend of the show, Will Cleveland. Cee hung out with Nick and Carly to chat about the North Carolina scene, their homebrew beginnings in Pittsburgh, PA, their love for Mac Miller and their annual dedicated releases, their take on the longevity of different styles, their favourite hops, their fun approach to smoothies and seltzers, why their beers always have a story, and their upcoming seventh anniversary releases. They got into six impeccable Funguys beers - Von Brango Pilsner, Thumbs Up Hazy IPA (Mac Miller Dedication), Spring Cleaning West Coast IPA, Good News Double IPA (Mac Miller Dedication), Bussin' Cool-Ade Inspired Hard Seltzer, and It's On Like DK! Smoothsicle Smoothie Sour. This was a great conversation - cheers! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

The bracket contest is BACK! Everyone's favorite segment returns at the end of this show. The well is stocked with magazines and toys and Tony is doing his “very best” to keep out of there as he has to guess which is better: Michelob Golden Ultra Light Gold Bock, or Natty Daddy ICE Baddie? Good luck binch! Anyways, Tony and I spent way too much time on Bulls crap and we had a highly disjointed AF1 update of the week - it seems like the league has been around for years and yet they've only played 6 games and one team has somehow been in 3 of them? Also, the show has a bad and dangerous text message leak and we are sent to the gulag. Tony revisited some of his favorite Maffcos and Mountain Cultures and I tried to figure out if Luka Modric's brewery is as good and cool as him. Next week! The bracket returns with the RETRO BEERS!! Do you like Natty Boh? Do you like Old Style?? Do you like STAG?!?! Then tune in!!!! ★ Support this podcast ★
I'm only giving it that title so we can catch some of those beautiful viral downloads. We need them! We kicked off our new segment today, as promised, with the AF1 Update of the Week. Another banger as usual where I had no idea where anyone was and we did a word count check and a BET. Also some amazing St. Patrick's Day content, the return of U*tra R**ht Beer to Fox News (hint: lawsuit), and Chicago Bulls - NBA Champions? Probably not. But we did have some fun with Guinness and meet some new Untappd superstars. All of that on one podcast? Well, if you meander for multiple hours and don't edit, you've got plenty of time!! ★ Support this podcast ★

We have been forced to give up the XFL / UFL Update of the Week. Sadly, losing famous sportswriter uhh…that guy, has left us with no choice. Without 9000 words per week on each of my favorite games, and some of the worst puns I've ever heard, there's really no point. No, it's time to shift over to Kansas's #1 sports league - the Arena Football One, sponsored by Hulk Hogan. We discuss the upcoming format changes coming due to our new relationship with AF1. Oh and also there was a bunch of pizza stuff and Tony went to Melbourne and had 100 beers and pizza. There it is, 110 minutes on WAX for your listening pleasure. ★ Support this podcast ★
Ahh, another week in Boingo's America, or Tony's America? This week we talk about the Tonysphere hitting the USA (“sir, another weird guy that Tony watches on TV has hit the cabinet”). Griff puts in overtime at the Stamp and pays the price for a few hours. Tony gets super sweaty, and so do some of the beers. And an absolutely unnecessary rant on aging NBA wings. We also participate in a TOTALLY NON-BEER related game called “Ernest Gets a Beer Contract.” or something, I forgot already. Did we ever see Ernest drink a beer? I bet we would have if his movies had come out in the “Dodgeball” era. Ernest makes an IPA. Ernest puts a marshmallow into a his stout. Ernest uses 2000 pounds of coconut? One of these will work. ★ Support this podcast ★

It's important for us to cover these shelf battles between Hulk Hogan, an “every day carry” gun and holster company, and the Conservative Dad. The rising price of eggs is absolutely maddening, and it feels like an unnecessary burden on everyday people. Eggs, a staple in most households, have become a luxury item for many families, forcing tough choices between affordability and nutrition. What used to be a reliable, low-cost source of protein has been turned into another example of how basic needs are increasingly out of reach. It's infuriating to see prices soar without clear solutions or accountability from those who hold the power to address these issues. While several factors contribute to the problem, including supply chain disruptions, avian flu outbreaks, and inflation, much of the blame falls on corporations and policymakers who fail to mitigate the impact on consumers. Large agribusinesses prioritize profits over stabilizing supply chains, while policymakers seem disconnected from the reality of struggling families. Instead of enacting meaningful measures to curb price hikes or support local farming initiatives, they leave everyday people scrambling to make ends meet. It's a systemic failure, and the lack of action only deepens the frustration. ★ Support this podcast ★

Emma Callahan is a proud Chicago native who runs a cozy neighborhood pizzeria, lovingly carrying on her late grandfather's legacy of making authentic Chicago-style thin-crust pizza. Her passion for the craft extends beyond her shop; she's an active member of the Facebook group "Chicago-style Thin Crust Pizza We Don't Call It %avern Style," a tight-knit but fiery online community dedicated to celebrating Chicago's unsung hero: the thin crust pizza.Enter Liam Harper, a food blogger and recent transplant to Chicago. Hoping to stir up content for his blog, Liam joins the group with a bold (and divisive) take: Chicago thin crust isn't even the best pizza in the city. His comment sets off a heated debate that Emma can't resist jumping into, defending her family's beloved style with biting humor and plenty of sass. When the group moderator, tired of the constant back-and-forth, suggests a real-life “Crust-Off” to settle their debate, Emma and Liam find themselves reluctantly paired to co-host the event. Their task? Showcase the best of Chicago thin crust pizza to a panel of judges and the community. As Emma and Liam clash over sauce recipes, topping combinations, and the perfect crust-to-cheese ratio, their mutual disdain begins to melt away like mozzarella under a broiler. Liam comes to admire Emma's deep connection to her craft, while Emma starts to appreciate Liam's fresh perspective and enthusiasm for storytelling. But just as sparks start to fly, Emma discovers Liam's initial intention to write a satirical blog post about the group. Feeling betrayed, she must decide whether to forgive him and trust that his newfound love for Chicago thin crust—and for her—is genuine.Set against the backdrop of Chicago's vibrant neighborhoods, A Crust Above the Rest is a heartwarming and savory love story about finding common ground, appreciating tradition, and discovering that some of the best things in life are served thin and crispy. ★ Support this podcast ★

Frosty is the kind of guy everyone loves to hate—loud, brash, and always at the center of trouble. But when a big-city mining corporation threatens to destroy the town's beloved watering hole and the surrounding bushland to dig for gold, Frosty unexpectedly becomes the town's unlikely hero.Armed with little more than his trusty Ute (pickup truck), an ancient BBQ grill, and his loyal blue heeler dog named Bundy, Frosty rallies the mismatched locals to save their town. Along the way, he faces off against corporate goons, navigates complicated family drama, and discovers a hidden talent for inspiring people—mostly by accident.Through beer-soaked barbecues, high-speed chases through the bush, and laugh-out-loud blunders, Frosty learns that being a bogan isn't just about flannel shirts and mullets—it's about heart, loyalty, and standing up for what really matters. In the end, Frosty may just prove that even the roughest bloke can become a legend. This would be a mix of comedy, action, and a touch of heartwarming redemption—a true Aussie romp! ★ Support this podcast ★

If Alan Jones, the Australian media personality known for his conservative views and often controversial commentary, met Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars, over a 75-cent beer, it would likely be an intense and entertaining interaction. Here's how such a meeting might unfold:Shared Conservative Views: Both Alan and Alex share right-wing ideologies, though they often express them in different ways. Alan is known for his provocative political commentary and influence in Australian media, while Alex is known for promoting conspiracy theories, such as those around 9/11, vaccines, and government control. They'd probably find common ground on issues related to government control, censorship, and free speech. Conflict of Personalities: Despite some ideological overlap, their personal styles are different. Alan is more traditional in his approach and less flamboyant, while Alex's theatrics and tendency to embrace outlandish ideas could lead to some friction. Alan may view Alex's extreme positions as over-the-top, while Alex might think Alan is too moderate or constrained. The 75-Cent Beer: Over a beer priced so cheaply, the conversation could become colorful. A 75-cent beer is not likely to be a premium beverage, and both men might mock the low price as emblematic of the "decline of society" or something to that effect. Alternatively, the beer might serve as a metaphor for the cheapening of media and political discourse in their respective countries. The Conversation: They could get into debates over globalism, media manipulation, or political correctness. Alan Jones might bring in his criticisms of Australia's political leadership, while Alex Jones could dive into broader, international conspiracy theories. While the beer might loosen their tongues, it could also amplify their combative tendencies, leading to a shouting match about the media or government control. In the end, while they might bond over their shared distrust of mainstream media, the outcome of this hypothetical encounter would likely be a mix of camaraderie, conflict, and a lot of grandstanding, perhaps with a dose of humor about the cheap beer they're sharing. If Alan Jones, the Australian media personality known for his conservative views and often controversial commentary, met Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars, over a 75-cent beer, it would likely be an intense and entertaining interaction. ★ Support this podcast ★

If Sammy "The Bull" Gravano played for the Chicago Bulls, it would definitely make for an interesting and unlikely scenario. Instead of basketball plays, you could imagine Gravano pulling off "plays" in a much different way—using his street smarts and strategic thinking, honed from his time as a notorious mobster, to outwit opponents. On the court, Gravano's toughness and ability to stay calm under pressure might translate into a gritty, no-nonsense style of play. He might not have the leaping ability of Michael Jordan or the finesse of Scottie Pippen, but he could probably be relied on as a gritty defender or a mastermind behind setting up others—using his "mob" mentality for team cohesion, always looking to control the game behind the scenes.Off the court, his presence could change the team dynamics entirely. With his notorious history, he might bring an intimidating aura that could either galvanize the team or create a culture of fear and secrecy. And of course, his connections to some of the most powerful figures in the city might make for some very interesting off-the-court drama. In a way, the Chicago Bulls could have used his underworld connections to strike deals or garner additional support in ways that went beyond the basketball court, but that might also lead to plenty of trouble, both legally and morally, for the organization. In the end, Sammy might be a legendary figure, but definitely one who would have brought a ton of drama and controversy to the world of professional basketball! ★ Support this podcast ★
