Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
Nick Smith from Steam Machine Brewing Company joins us on the Hop Forward Podcast this week to discuss their unique subscription service, The Fellowship of the Beer. The Fellowship of Beer is an extension of Steam Machine Brewing Company's mission to showcase just how vastly different every pint of beer can be.Founded in 2015 by husband and wife Nick & Gulen Smith, this North East brewery has always been focused on direct relationships with consumers rather than following race-to-the-bottom mass supply and supermarket deals. Their idea of craft concentrates on the ultra-artisan side of the market, with draught-led quaffing pints fresh from tanks, and distinctive strong beers, often featuring foraged ingredients, lovingly aged away in extra special barrels for months and years, each one a limited edition release. Involving their already adoring fans – and the local response has made up 50% of the original subscribers – as well as opening up to a national audience has been a natural evolution of their consumer-led style.Join us as we discuss everything from barrel-aging and packaging, market competitions analysis and big beer, through to the over-saturation of NEIPAs in the market place as well as working with the fellowship to determine what to brew as part of The Fellowship of the Beer.If you're interested in joining the Fellowship, visit www.fellowshipofbeer.orgTHIS WEEK'S EPISODE IS PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY:Charles Faram & Co (charlesfaram.com)Supplying hops for over 150 years, Charles Faram offers a vast range of nitrogen-flushed hop varieties from the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and the USA.Crisp Malting Group (crispmalt.com)Since 1870, Crisp has blended tradition with innovation, producing malts like Chevallier Heritage and Clear Choice Malt.FOLLOW HOP FORWARDhopforward.beer | LinkedIn | BlueSky | Instagram

To accommodate their growing supply of kegs and cans, the brewery has built a spacious walk-in cooler. They've also set up a 26-foot tiki bar, creating a vibrant setting for special events and signature cocktails inspired by the Hawaiian Islands. In addition to their wide range of brews and spirits, Monkey Wrench Brewing offers flavored "slushies" infused with in-house rum and vodka, featuring flavors like apricot, coconut, and mango. They are also serving craft cocktails. For more information, you can visit their website at www.monkeywrenchbrewing.com or follow them on social media @MonkeyWrenchBrewing. It's the first episode of 2023. We wanted to kick the year off with some local beers. We've had a lot of foreign beers on the podcast of late, so we wanted to bring things back home. Potum Brewery has been putting out quite a bit at the end of 2022. We picked up a can of one of their NEIPAs called Narayan. It's a solid entry into the crowded NEIPA market. Made with Idaho 7 and dry hopped with Amarillo and Talus. We're really looking forward to seeing more from this brewery. Train Station Brewery Dark Side Imperial Ale 2022 won the bronze last year at a Swedish beer festival. This beer has been around since 2015 and we thought it would a fun style to try. We haven't had many dark ales to review on the show. This one hits the spot. #drinks #craftbeer #beer #neipa #potumbrewing #darkale #dipa

Why homebrew with all the great beer that's already available? With all the great beer available at every corner today it's easy to say there's no reason to homebrew. When we started brewing there was good beer available, but not like it is today. Big stouts, funky saisons, and NEIPAs weren't that easy to come by. Brewing it ourself was a way to get beers we couldn't get otherwise. Plus, homebrewing is fun. Creative. Scientific. Social. There are plenty of reasons to homebrew other than simply making beer. Bill Boyer joins us again (as promised) along with Friend of the Show Michael Syrop to talk about why to brew, how to get started, entering competitions, and a few resources to help on your journey. We cover beer, mead, and cider in this episode, but mostly just general homebrewing banter. The hobby can be simple and cheap to start or you can pour $1,000s into an all electric home setup that rivals pro breweries. If you're thinking about starting, do it. Let us know if you have any questions. Olá! O meu nome é Ricardo Sousa e este é o meu podcast sobre cerveja artesanal.Nasceu no Catraio no Porto. Ouvinte a ouvinte, apreciador a apreciador, convosco o mercado da Cerveja Artesanal vai continuar a crescer.#bebemenosbebemelhorMusic from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/paul-yudin/big-adventure License code: 8GIR6VXMEFPI7EKG

July 4, 1776. America is born. There are high fives all around. Samuel Adams breaks out his homebrew to celebrate. Life is good. This week we take a look at some classic American craft beers. American craft is fairly young in the grand scheme of things. Where many European countries have hundreds of years of tradition, we've got 40ish years - with maybe a couple of exceptions. A little thing called Prohibition threw us off for a while but when we got back in the game, we went all out. Anchor Steam hit the scene in 1971, Sierra Nevada in 1980, Sam Adams in 1984. The 90s gave us bold beers from Dogfish Head and saw the brewpub boom where you could always find a Blonde Ale, a Pale Ale a Porter, and in Irish Red. There were 90 craft breweries in American in 1978 and today there are over 8,800. Our crafty pioneers brought hoppy beers that not everyone took a shine to. Many people that were used to their American lagers thought the beers were flawed. But the brewers pushed on and the people developed a taste for hops and bitterness in their beers. This led to the IBU Wars with 1,000 IBU beers, the soft NEIPAs, and the fruited glitter milkshake DDH I-can't-even-taste-beer beers we have today. What a ride. To celebrate this journey we sat down with our friend (and show sponsor!) Adam Silverberg from The Nest Kennesaw. We talk some about the beers that introduced us to craft, dive into the history of these classic brews, and discuss some of the trendy phases we've seen. Whatever you choose to pack your cooler with this 4th of July there's no shortage of amazing American beer to celebrate with. I'll drink to that.
I first interviewed Joe from Pentrich on the Podcast in Episode 15 in October 2020. At that time we got to talking about how Pentrich had built their reputation by putting "proper" heavily-hopped NEIPAs into keg. I expressed incredulity at this concept, and so Joe invited me to come and join him for a pint or two at the Alexandra Hotel in Derby, to see for myself. https://www.pentrichbrewing.com/ http://www.alexandrahotelderby.co.uk/ Fast forward through Lockdown #3, and I finally got the chance to take Joe up on his offer last week. I was also joined by my TWICB co-founder Steve, who has been known to be partial to a few pints himself! I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we did recording it! I also hope you are inspired to make your own pilgrimage to the Alex! It is literally a short stagger from Derby Station, so very accessible by public transport. If you are a fan of NEIPAs and you haven't yet sampled Pentrich on cask, your education on the subject is incomplete! If you do follow in our footsteps, drop me a message and let me know how you found it? rob@thisweekincraft.beer

Gabriel Dulong of Bière Boréale & I have a conversation about how he coped with 2020, his 1st brews, how he became a brewer, if he ever listened to metal, his 1st show, IPA du Nord-Est, freedom from flagships, keeping the beer fresh, collabs & his hangover cure. Throughout this interview, we were enjoying Bière Boréale x Messorem Bracitorium 's "Tourbillon Polaire" the DDH Double IPA. This gorgeous brew poured out with a milky hazy veil, smashed juicy tropical fruits such as mangoes & pineapple on the nose, ripped a slightly sweet, fruity, dank, delicately boozy & enjoyable hop burn on the finish. It clocked in with a 8.6% ABV. Back in 2014, Elora Brewing Co. opened its doors in a small town northwest of Toronto (Elora, if you didn't guess). Since the beginning, they've been ahead of the curve, producing one of the first readily available (via distribution) NEIPAs back in 2017. We've been fans since we cracked our first bottle of Elora Borealis, their NE Pale Ale, and while we've never had the chance to visit the brewery, hanging with co-founder Jonathan Laurencic and Head Brewer Dave Rozell Soehner (affectionately known as Lager Dave) virtually was the next best thing. Over 3+ hours, we talked about their history in detail (Jon shared hilarious stories about their challenging beginning along with his European inspirations), their brewing techniques, Dave's focus on lagers, how they were able to get on top of the haze craze before most other Ontario breweries, snowing in Elora in May, their COVID pivot and a lot more. We crushed their Original Draft Lager, Elora Borealis Pale Ale, Shine NEIPA and Lodestar Plum fruited sour. This was super fun, get it in ya! The last time we hung out with JF on the pod was back at their winter bottle release in St. Jerôme in 2017. We'd kicked it at one of our fave events of the year, Journée Péché, every March for the past few winters but we were long overdue to have the guy who created the greatest coffee stout in the country back on the pod for a long chat. This interview was basically our own private, virtual Journée Péché with the legend himself. We cracked open both the 2020 and 2021 Péché Packs, including the Sidama Coffee, Blackcurrant, Mexican and Bourbon variants, while we got deep into the history of Péché Mortel, how he feels about the event being cancelled two years running, how DDC pivoted during COVID, his stance on NEIPAs and pastry stouts, and a lot more. As always, this was an engaging conversation with someone who changed the game in Canada. Enjoy, cheers! This episode is sponsored by Doctor Nick's Amazing Man Stuff! Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
Founded in 1980, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is arguably one of America’s premier craft breweries. Renowned for exclusively using whole-cone hops, Sierra Nevada has set the standard for artisan brewers worldwide with beers like Tropedio, Big Foot and their West Coast style Stout. But it’s the modern classic, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale that thrust the brewery into the consciousness of consumers and has since long endured in the hearts of beer drinkers across the globe. I’m convinced that many, if not most, in the brewing industry can trace their journey back at least in part to that first time they discovered that golden amber coloured ale, boasting all 38 of its International Bitterness Units (or IBUs) and Cascade hops: qualities which, now in 2021, seem merely casual next to the extremities of juicy, hazy NEIPAs or pithy, resinous West Coast IPAs. The beer that inspired founder Ken Grossman, of course, was Fuller’s ESB: a brewery that itself is predominantly known for its own flagship brand, London Pride. There’s something poetic that the journey of Sierra Nevada has gone full circle, very much in the same way The Beatles and The Beach Boys played creative ping-pong over the Atlantic, ramping up the volume on 60’s pysedelida with each record. Yet, it would be wrong to simply discard Pale Ale or even the Sierra Nevada brand as Yesterday’s Brews, earning the ‘Been there, drunk that’ Untappd badge. Over 40 years on Sierra Nevada still retains allegiance from both faithful fans or the newbie to craft beer who is discovering Pale Ale for the first time with a sense of reverence and awe... and rightly so! Who hasn't stood at a shelf or at the bar and - despite all the other exciting beers you’ve never tried and may never even get to - reached for a bottle or uttered the words ‘I’ll have a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, please?’. Recently, the Beer O’Clock Show - a long running podcast - ran an exclusive episode featuring the much-sought-after Ken Grossman. If you haven’t listened to that episode, I’d encourage you to go listen to that first, before this one. Steve and Martin did a cracking job of interviewing Ken and dissecting what everyone loves about those beers in such a fantastic way. In this particular episode, though, we explore the brand through the eyes of Iain Newell: the European Managing Director for Sierra Nevada. We take a deep dive into the world of exporting beer from the USA into other territories, how and why Sierra Nevada - a 100% family owned, operated, and argued over - brewery based in both Chico and now Mills River, North Carolina - resonates with drinkers as far flung as Russia; and we explore the newly launched Cascade Club - a Direct to Drinker and Business to Business e-commerce platform, and what that means for both consumers and those in retail and bar trade. It’s evident from talking to Iain, he is well versed in the industry. Working for Whitbread, AB InBev and Heinekien - amongst others before assuming his position with Sierra Nevada - we managed to have some interesting discussion on brewery acquisitions and how Sierra Nevada have managed to remain independent after all this time. Close the blinds, light some scented candles and curl up into the fetal position on your couch — it's time for yet another "sad boi" episode of Beats, Beards & Brews. This time the gang attempts to avoid falling into depression while reviewing singer-songwriter Julien Baker's third album Little Oblivions. In all seriousness, Julien Baker is a talented musician, definitely give the album a shot, just be prepared for an intensely personal and emotional musical journey. And check out the story behind every song on the album, while you're at it. Julien Baker tracks previewed on this episode include: "Ringside" "Song in E" "Heat Wave" Next up, Eric and Dan somehow fail to connect the dots that they are reviewing an album by Julien Baker and a CBD beard oil called The Baker by Fable Beard Company. Dan must have been too distracted by the overwhelming scent of pastries and baked goods under his nose, in his house, and on his pillow. Eric actually kind of enjoys this scent, despite its strength. Surprise, surprise. Finally, the boys all drink local New England IPAs (NEIPAs) from their respective states. Evan and Eric take on crowlers of Sycamore Shred by 515 Brewing out of Des Moines, Iowa. Meanwhile, Dan ingests a vintage crowler of Flip Flops and Wheelies by Junkyard Brewing out of Moorhead, Minnesota. Until next time, cheers!
Back in February 2020, we launched our first ever themed season, Against The Grain, where we spoke with breweries in Quebec who took the path less followed and brewed beers that most breweries didn't. We had two final episodes lined up and booked, but they happened to be booked the first two weeks of the COVID lockdown and of course, they never happened. One of those breweries was Brasserie du Bas-Canada. Since things aren't changing any time soon, we felt it was time to finally do it. We hung with Co-Founders Marc-André Cordeiro Lima and Gabriel Girard Bernier, along with our fave co-host Noah Forrest of Beerism, to get the full history of their meteoric rise to craft beer fame, their branding, we touched on their styles of choice (NEIPAs and pastry stouts) and a lot more in this epic chat that more than made up for the delay. We also crushed four of their brews - HYPA IX, Ferme Moore, First Bucket and Timber. Enjoy, and get it in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads
Phil gets to the bottom of how Marco brews 6 beers at once. The Doc judges our first listener submission, a Wild Specialty Beer. Lastly, Brett Bauer is back to finish the conversation into his journey as a brewer. Brett was previously the lead brewer at one of our favorite local breweries here in MA, Idle Hands. Idle Hands is a well known for it's Belgian beers, German lagers and now more and more for it's NEIPAs. Brett then moved down to Tennessee to Heaven and Ales and recently left professional brewing to return to the bio-tech industry. But, while he has left the professional brewing world, he has joined us as home brewers. We're going to dig into Brett's background, learn about his experiences as a professional brewer and dig into his plans as a home brewer. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
For the final podcast of 2020, we figured we'd just kick back with some fire brews and hang out with some homies. Émilie has been a friend of the podcast for a couple of years now, and it was finally time to have her on. A prolific Instagrammer, actress, dancer and a well-known Quebecois craft beer personality, Émilie is basically known as "mother beer" to her fellow female beer Instagrammers with her experienced advice for those new to the game. We brought in the 2020 BAOS co-host MVP Noah of Beerism, as he's the reason we knew Émilie in the first place, to hang out, get nerdy about the life of beer media folks like ourselves, and crush two of Ém's fave styles - NEIPAs and Imperial Stouts. We rocked with amazing Quebec breweries including Messorem Bracitorium, St. Ambroise, À La Derive and 5e Baron. Thank you all for the support this year, it's been a challenging but inspiring one. Have a safe and healthy holiday season, and we'll see you in January. Get it in ya! BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

Today's podcast is all about discovering why personal trainers hate cardio. Obviously, not all personal trainers hate it, but there are enough PTs spouting off about their hate for traditional cardio for it to be worth looking at. Do they have a point? This episode explores the truth. Why Personal Trainers Hate Cardio The podcast looks at the legitimate reasons why personal trainers don't often add cardio into their sessions. High injury rate, practical issues, coaching issues, and risk/benefit analysis. It also looks at the lesser-known reasons why personal trainers may not want to add cardio into their workouts. At the end of the day, there is a time and a place for cardio, but I can understand why a PT would not feel it necessary. If you aren't training with a PT then adding some cardio into your life will provide many benefits, and the purpose of this podcast is not to discourage you from that. TrioJ 26 NEIPA by Lost + Found The beer I was drinking during this podcast was a New England IPA (NEIPA) from Lost + Found brewery called TrioJ 26. An absolutely shocking name for a beer! I've talked about NEIPAs before, and they aren't exactly my favourite style. But this was by no means a bad beer. It was not as bitter as I had expected a NEIPA to be, and bitterness is one of the main reasons why I usually avoid NEIPAs. But at 6% it is stronger than I like my IPAs to be. My ideal IPA is a session IPA, one I can drink a few cans of without feeling absolutely trashed. Yep, I'm a volume kinda guy! If you enjoy your beer hoppy, fruity, and not overly bitter, then this beer is a real find. Excellent as a one-off, but not something I could see myself drinking five of.
Blind craft beer taste tests are becoming quite the thing for the team at BAOS, and for this episode, we went all out. We brought in the dream team of Noah Forrest of the esteemed Beerism.ca, and Matt McGachy of the dominant Vox & Hops (and vocalist of Cryptopsy), to help out Cee with a festive four-pack guessing game thanks to La Canette, a fantastic specialty craft beer store in the Villeray neighbourhood of Montreal. Kevin of La Canette and his team hand-selected four NEIPAs from Quebec and expertly wrapped them so no cheating was possible, and the fellas had to guess the exact style (single NEIPA, double, triple etc), the hop bill, the ABV, any tasting notes and finally, the beer and brewery. Overall, the team did really well, and it wouldn't have happened with the legends at La Canette - make sure you get down to 7255 St. Hubert! Note: About 90 minutes in, Cee had a legit fall. He knocked over the final beer and was annoyed, rushing to clean it up to get back to the podcast when he took a spill in the kitchen. It sounds like he's just angry about spilling the beer but the bruises across his entire left side tell a different story. He's not crazy, he just got hurt pretty bad - but he pushed on and finished the podcast, even with a bleeding armpit and throbbing limbs. Brülosophy’s Marshall Schott talks exBEERimentation We all know the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, Marshall Schott of Brülosophy reminds us that just because something isn't broken doesn't mean it can't be improved. Schott and a team of other hardcore homebrewers at Brülosophy examine some of the long-held traditions of brewing to see if there's a better way to do things. Sometimes they do find a better way, and occasionally that upsets a few people. It can be tough to let go of traditions. Through their "exBEERiments" the Brülosophy team has tested the idea that a lager needs months of lagering to be great, the importance/necessity of long mash times and boils for your beers, fermentation temperatures, and a host of other brewing methods. They've helped a lot of homebrewers in making better beer, and even a few professional brewers. One of the best things about these exBEERiments is it gets people talking about the way we brew. Brülosophy shares Short & Shoddy recipes to give you a tasty beer and a quick brew day. (Photo: Brülosophy)[/caption] Learn more about hops and yeast from Brülosophy Brülosophy has a host of other resources on their site as well. The Hop Chronicles examine the performance of hop varieties in single hop beers and Short & Shoddy offers up quick recipes for various brews. They also share several methods for brewing including mashing, kegging, fermenting, and how to harvest your own yeast. It's a one-stop information shop over there. If you're more of a listener than a reader (and we definitely hope that's the case) you can check out the Brülosophy Podcast for more on their exBEERiments, Q&A sessions with the team and industry experts, and plenty of other brewing-related topics. Won't you take me to, Monkey Town We took a quick road trip to Tennessee recently and found ourselves at Monkey Town Brewing in Dayton, home of the Scopes Monkey Trial. None of my friends were familiar with the case, but it's a pretty interesting case. The short of it is that a high school teacher (John T. Scopes) was accused of teaching evolution in school at a time when that was illegal. He didn't recall ever teaching evolution but took the fall as he thought it would be good publicity for the town. As promised in the show, here's the link to the Wiki on the Scopes Trial. The folks at Monkey Town were extremely friendly and offered up some great beers, especially their NEIPAs and pastry stouts. This week on Beer is a Conversation, Pete and Matt catch up with Feral Brewing founder, Brendan Varis. It's been 12 months since Brendan announced that he had sold his brewery to Coca Cola, and 10 years since he first brewed Hop Hog and so we have plenty to talk about. We discuss what has changed since the sale, how much the beer scene has changed since he unleashed Hop Hog on the market and it turns out we can add him to the long list of brewers that don't get NEIPAs, though it seems he does quite like the emerging Brut IPA. As always with Brendan, it's a great chat that offers plenty of insight into the evolving world of beer. Enjoy the conversation.

Today’s podcast is with the folks from Colorado’s WeldWerks Brewing Company—and it’s a fun one. In fact I might go as far as to say that this is one of my favorite conversations I’ve had, since I started contributing to this podcast a couple years ago. You’ll hear a number of WeldWerks voices over the next hour or so, including owners Colin Jones and Neil Fisher, Ops Director Kristin Popcheff, brewer Arne Garlick and Sales Director Jake Goodman. It’s been quite the journey for WeldWerks since they set up in the town of Greeley, some 30 miles east of Fort Collins and Loveland, along the Front Range in Northern Colorado just three years ago. They exploded onto the scene thanks to beers like their New England IPA, Juicy Bits—a beer that impressed me so much I was compelled to visit, and eventually write about this fascinating brewery for GBH. In its short existence, WeldWerks has already experienced critical acclaim for beers like Juicy Bits and its pastry stouts such as Medianoche. In fact the barrel aged version of the latter picked up a coveted gold medal in the barrel-aged stout category at last years Great American Beer Festival. But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their repertoire. WeldWerks released 100 different beers over the past year. And amongst zeitgeisty NEIPAs and Pastry Stouts, there were also tart Gose, crispy Pilsners and much more. This brewery is far from being a one, or two, trick pony. The brewery’s rapid growth and increase in popularity hasn’t been without its challenges, however. They’ve had to deal with long lines on beer release days, and in some cases, disappointed customers—some of whom, made their feelings towards the brewery pretty explicit in these instances. Learning to balance these reactions from consumers has been as important as it has building their relationships with industry partners, as they manage strong own-premise sales with increasing demand from retailers. What’s perhaps most impressive is that—along with fellow Greeley brewery Wiley Roots and local bars like Patrick’s Irish Pub—WeldWerks has helped to put its hometown on the American beer map. It would have perhaps been easier (but far more expensive) to set up their brewery in say, Downtown Fort Collins or Denver’s exploding River North district. But no, Greeley is where this Colorado brewery’s heart is—and their efforts are helping to develop the image of a town that locally is typically associated with industrial scale agriculture.
In this episode, we’re going to revisit two of our continuing segments with Yeast-o-Rama and Malt-o-Rama and also talk about a few competition beers and their judging results. In Yeast-o-Rama, we talk about three of the yeasts we have experience with for NEIPAs--because that’s about all anyone is talking about--and then we talk about a couple of dry lager yeasts. Then, in Malt-o-Rama we’ll be going over some of the variety for Rye malt.
Beerology & The Brewers Invitationalare two of my favorite events of the year. The local breweries seem to save their special beers and on-offs for these two events in the beginning of the new year.Beerology is a fundraiser for the Buffalo Museum of Science featuring local and regional craft beer after normal museum hours. My wife, kids, and I love the museum, we're there multiple times a month and even more in the summer, so the first time I went to Beerology it was somewhat surreal to see grown adults, in various levels of inebriation, enjoying the exhibits. It's the kind of event that bring beer-snobs, casual craft-beer lovers, and the Labatt drinkers out in equal force. The local brewers generally bring a seasonal or one-off beer, and the local homebrew clubs set up experiments to test out brewing myths or to explore ingredients in a deeper way. This year, I'm bringing interviews with the local clubs to describe their experiments. The second half of the episode is from New York Beer Project for the BNBA Brewers Invitational. This is another of my favorite events where the brewers seem to bring their best and newest creations. On this episode we have a Pączki beer, a Manhattan beer, some killer NEIPAs and some local favorites that have been on hiatus. If you've never been to this event, check out the BNBA Events page for details next year, it's worth it. Episode 155 of InterBrews was recorded at Holler Brewing with Kathryn Holler, Sigma Brewing’s Matt Peterson and Eureka Heights’ Casey Motes. This was the inaugural “Brewers Roundtable” episode. Many topics were discussed including Houston Daisy Chain, glitter beers, barrel aging, being a year and a half into running a brewery, Texas beer Legislation, NEIPAs and […]
Each week for the past two years, we’ve released special mini-episodes for our Patreon supporters that we call Low ABVs. It’s our small way of saying thanks to those who commit even a small amount of money to us each month. To say thank you to everyone else, we’ve compiled some of our favorites that feature both hoppy beers and our irreverent brand of games into a slightly massive release this week. Sure, there are beer reviews. But there’s also all of these tantalizing topics: Ryan’s new career in drums, the world’s most precious prank, playing games with pseudo-celebs, the problem with mass-produced NEIPAs, Craig’s prison future, traumatic childhood movies, a sudden spike in toilet talk, our two degrees of 311, Robitussin lambics, and the absolute best beer label. Thanks to everyone who has listened over these four years, and if you want to support us and gain access to over 26 hours of Low ABVs (with some full “lost” episodes never widely released to the public), go to www.patreon.com/abvchicago and become a valued member of our….uh….Passionate Plenty aka The Cream Team. (The name’s still a work in progress.) Special guest Brian Reeves (owner of Craft Beer Cellar in Roslindale, MA) joins co-hosts Keith Kirchoff and Greg Carlson in discussing their top five NEIPAs brewed in New England.
The Original Gravity Podcast – hosted by Keith Kirchoff and Greg Carlson – explores modern music composed by New England Composers and designs homebrewed beer recipes that pair with this music. The NEIPA has taken the nation (and certainly New England) by storm, and one might forget that there is a wealth of amazing other IPAs being brewed as well! In this episode, we do our second "Top 5" list, this time tackling the top five non-New England style IPAs that are brewed in New England! Spoiler: it's gonna make you thirsty.
We prematurely drop a "Best of" album by seeing if we can jam by ourselves. In this episode we discuss our weekends, beer news and NEIPAs!
Bring your bendy straw, we’re dipping into some juicy, hazy New England-style IPAs made locally. Whether it’s an actual style or not, stores can hardly keep any brewery’s NEIPA in stock - so we evaluate seven of them in a blind tasting. We share everything we know about this trend, say “creamy” a few hundred times, and somewhat fail at recognizing Mosaic. There’s some shoe-eating, retired slogans, Sunny D, and our vow to become brother husbands. Disappear into a glass with us, and let your juice loose. I don’t know what the hell that means.
