This week we have a pretty awesome story from our good friend Theresa of Theresa's Haunted History of the Tri-State. This is about an encounter that wasn't Mothman in the Point Pleasant TNT area.On a whim one summer night in 2008, my friend and I went exploring the TNT area in Pt. Pleasant . We've checked out the accessible igloos many times, only three of which were actually opened, but he wanted to show me some pallets, drums, and other debris that had recently been placed in front of a few of the privately owned igloos, which were located down a different trail than the one that held the open igloos...Thanks Theressa for the story, be sure to check out her site Theresa's Haunted History of the Tri-State for more of her stories.https://theresashauntedhistoryofthetri-state.blogspot.com/2011/03/creepy-experience-at-tnt-area.html?m=1If you have a story you'd like to see get featured be sure to fill out our google form https://forms.gle/WBSBgRkna5RJLXAo6 Make sure to visit our YouTube channel for additional content! https://www.youtube.com/@SpookyAppalachia Hosted on Acast. We're sure if you are into the paranormal you've at least heard of Point Pleasant West Virginia. We decided to do this video since we've had some many stories originate from this town, and a lot of our viewers saying they wish they could see it.The Town of Point Pleasant was first settled in 1774 along the banks of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, but wasn't officially chartered just yet. Not long after this on October 10, 1774 the Battle of Point Pleasant occurred between the Shawnee Chief Cornstalk and General Andew Lewis. In 1777, Chief Cornstalk and his son traveled to Fort Randolph to discuss peace between their tribes and the settlers, but they were captured and killed. It is believed that Chief Cornstalk laid a curse upon the land as he was slain. Then, finally, in 1804 Mason County split off from Kanawha County, and the city officially became Point Pleasant.A lot of people believe that the paranormal happenings centered around Point Pleasant happen due to the curse of Chief Cornstalk. If you've ever spent some time around Point Pleasant residents you'll notice when something goes wrong they jokingly say “there's that Chief Cornstalk Curse again” We'll mention a few of the paranormal happenings but wont go into great detail on them since we've already done stories on a good number of them, or plan to in the future. One of the earliest paranormal stories we've found are on The Mason County Ghost Lights. The Ghost Lights showed up around 1810. People report seeing what looks like a lantern bobbing up and down in a particular area.Possibly the next paranormal happenings in town could be from the Lowe Hotel. It's hard to say when the hauntings reported there started, but the hotel was opened in 1901. Guests have reported seeing apparitions, as well as seeing shadow and yearning strange sounds that can't be explained. After that would be the UFO stories that may have started in 1931 with the Phantom Blimp Crash. Then there were the Mothman sightings and a huge uptick in UFO sightings. Between 1966-1967 there were hundreds of UFO and Mothman sights in the area. For the most part this seemed to slow down when the Silver Bridge collapsed in 1967, but some folks say the UFOs and Mothman are still around. That pretty much sums up the paranormal occurrences, that aside Point Pleasant West Virginia is a fun place to visit and is a town that fully embraces their paranormal culture. There are many great places to visit, including The World's Only Mothman Museum and their sister store The Point Pleasant Trading Company. The Mothman Museum is also working to complete The Mothman themed escape room, and also starting an indoor cryptid themed mini golf course! Some other places to check out are The Tu-Endie-Wei State park where the Battle of Point Pleasant Happened, The TNT Area where most of The Mothman sightings occurred, and many of the locally owned restaurants where you can get Mothman themed foods.Source(s) vistpointpleasantwv https://visitpointpleasantwv.com/history/Appalachian Oddity http://www.appalachianoddity.org/ Hosted on Acast. Franzi erläutert ein wenig zur Herkunft und Geschichte des Wesens, das 1966 zum ersten Mal in Point Pleasant, West Virginia gesichtet wurde. The Jersey Devil Many cities in America have their share of monsters, and For New Jersey’it’s a mythical cryptid known as the Jersey Devil. In 1735, a woman named, Jane “Mother” Leeds, was about to give birth to her 13th child and During the pregnancy, she cursed it and said, “Let this one be the devil.” As lore would have it, when Jane gave birth, the child arrived with bat-like wings and a horse-shaped head. It yelped several times before flying out of through the chimney, The Jersey Devil had been born. In other accounts, the creature attacked his mother and all the people present during its awakening. Ever Since then, it’s said to haunt the thick forests of the Pine Barrens. 4. Skunk Ape Considered an aggressive version of Bigfoot, the Skunk Ape is a humanoid creature said to inhabit the swampy areas of Florida, Arkansas and North Carolina. The reason for the name is because it looks like a large ape creature, with a distinctive foul odor. Nobody knows for sure when the term Skunk Ape was first used, but it’s believed to have originated in a highly publicized sighting in 1957 by a pair of hunters who said the creature invaded their camp. The 60s and 70s paved the way for more sightings, often occurring in the Florida Everglades. 3. Chupacabra Called the “goatsucker,” El Chupacabra or simply “Chupacabra,” is a famous cryptid known to many people today. It’s said to attack various livestock including goats, chickens and other farm animals. Chupacabras are widely reported to roam all over the Americas but notably around Mexico, Puerto Rico and much of the southwestern portion of the United States. The first reported attack and sighting of the Chupacabra occurred in Puerto Rico in 1995 when Eight sheep were found dead. All of them had puncture wounds on their chest and had been drained of their blood. 2. Bigfoot One of the most famous and renowned cryptids in the world, the Bigfoot is said to roam forested areas in North America, particularly, British Columbia and Washington State. Despite being largely reported in North America, various “Bigfoot” sightings or similar large, hominid creatures have been reported in various countries all over the world. Bigfoot is described as being a large, ape-like creature that walks upright and is covered with hair. It got it’s name because it leaves behind large footprints. 1. Mothman Point Pleasant, West Virginia is known for something very unusual. In their town center stands a gleaming 12-foot statue. Cast in stunning silver metal, it shows a large, man-moth creature known appropriately as the Mothman. Although reports and sightings of Mothman are plentiful, the majority of the initial reports of the creature come from a specific area near the old West Virginia Ordnance Works. It’s a place known to locals as the “TNT Area” because the structure once manufactured dynamite and ammunition.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Mothman! Well, we're pretty sure "Mothman" isn't any of those things, neither a moth nor a man, or some unholy combination of the two. If the descriptions by over 100 witnesses are accurate and the symptoms of seeing such a sight are related, then whatever this creature is, it's abilities may go beyond even what is considered possible for an earthly cryptid. Magical flight, a burning, mesmerizing gaze, and haunting dreams are some of his reported traits, but is clairvoyance also one of them? What if Mothman knew your fate, but wasn't capable or allowed to tell you? And for an even bigger stretch of the imagination, what if Scott goes "off the chain" in this episode? Now, this may all seem like silly balderdash to your sophisticated and skeptical nature, but what kind of hosts would we be if we couldn't deliver a tale of a real monster in time for Samhain? After all, it is Halloween. Tonight's Quote: “UFO’s do not seem to exist as tangible, manufactured objects. They do not conform to the accepted natural laws of our environment. They seem to be nothing more than transmogrifications tailoring themselves to our ability to understand." — John A. All legends are local in a way, and when one local person tells a tale of a strange encounter, it can be a cause for skeptical snickers from the townsfolk. When more than a hundred people from the same region all see the same thing, it can lead to books, a major Motion Picture and even an annual festival. Such is the case with Point Pleasant, West Virginia and the Ohio River Valley's own "Mothman" — whose local sightings turned into national legend. There are several elements that contribute to the intense curiosity that still surrounds the stories of the Mothman, himself described as a winged, humanoid creature with glowing red eyes and a sympathetic, if mysterious nature. One of them is the sudden appearance of a friendly, inter-dimensional road tripper named Indrid Cold who just wants to get to know you better and may be searching for a cryptid on the loose . Another is the unsettling thought that these encounters may have portended a disaster that took the lives of 46 people exactly 13 months later. Tonight's Quote: “Human beings are under the control of a strange force that bends them in absurd ways, forcing them to play a role in a bizarre game of deception.” - — Jacques Vallée, Computer Scientist, Venture Capitalist and noted Ufologist Show Links: We've found that some sites are not showing these links as clickable unless they are URLs, so until those outlets improve their show notes section, we are providing actual URLs next to the clickable description of each link to make things easier for our listeners!
