On this episode of Necronomicast, I close out 2024 with a wonderful conversation with Tobias and Emily Wayland. You might have seen Tobias recently on the most recent season of "Unsolved Mysteries" on Netflix! Together, the work of Tobias and Emily were featured on season four of Unsolved Mysteries, the series premiere of Expedition X, and the Small Town Monsters documentaries Terror in the Skies and On the Trail of the Lake Michigan Mothman for their work investigating Mothman sightings in the Midwest. Tobias and Emily have been involved with the Lake Michigan Mothman investigation since its advent in the spring of 2017, and published a book chronicling the experience, The Lake Michigan Mothman: High Strangeness in the Midwest. Their second and third books about unusual phenomena, Strange Tales of the Impossible and The Singular Fortean Society's Yuletide Guide to High Strangeness, continue their work in investigating a variety of seemingly impossible events. This episode's release coincides with the anniversary of the Silver Bridge collapse in Point Pleasant, West Virginia on December 15, 1967, where sightings of the Mothman were reported beforehand. In this show, Susy talks with Bill and Jaci Kousoulas. - The mysterious Ohio River Valley, the Silver Bridge disaster, Mothman and more Jaci is a retired U.S. federal official. Her professional expertise lies in data analytics, investigation, and research. Point Pleasant became a home away from home for her the very first time she visited there. The community and people remind her of her childhood and what it was like to experience the unity of life in a small town. She is highly intuitive and has been encouraged by a retired hypnotherapist and gifted psychic to pursue her profound abilities. Jaci has had numerous paranormal encounters during her lifetime, including seeing UFOs, disembodied heads on the dresser, and a lumbering entity plodding through a cornfield, which she describes as looking like one of Richard Shaver's Detrimental Robots (DEROs). She has also been contacted by family members and friends since their passing.Bill completed his doctorate in psychology in January of 2021. He specializes in positive psychology, the science of “what goes right in life.” Most of his doctoral research is in the area of post-traumatic growth - the good outcomes that we gain by navigating our challenging life experiences. Later in 2021, Jaci and Bill formed Phenomenology Research Professionals, a practice in which they focus on the correlations between paranormal experiences and post-traumatic growth. This discipline allows them to combine multiple interests into a passion for investigating the unknown, learning how people and communities grow from trauma, and helping others to understand that good things can and do come from traumatic events.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/paranormal-uk-radio-network--4541473/support.

Owners Hope and Bev Yankey are committed to keeping it that way so native brook trout might one day thrive downstream. The conservation-minded couple turned to Trout Unlimited and its Potomac Headwaters Home Rivers Initiative for help. Brook trout's sensitivity to water temperature and conditions make them an excellent indicator of stream health. That's why the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement made restoring brook trout a goal of the federal-state effort to clean up the Bay and its tributaries. The work can be expensive and complicated. Fortunately, an array of federal and state grant programs exists to help cover the costs and provide technical expertise to landowners, like the Yankeys, who want to protect valuable natural resources on their property. The goal is “to regenerate and let the land come back. The farm provided a living and now it's time to give back,” Hope Yankey said. Wamsley, who is also the author of “Mothman: Behind the Red Eyes” and co-author of “Mothman: The Facts behind the Legend” shares the Mothman's eerie origin story, which dates back to November 1966 when the Silver Bridge collapsed. This episode offers an introduction to our next spooky art pieces about a cryptid that hails from West Virginia, has been deemed a portent who was seen between 1966 and 1967, ending after the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge. It has been proposed the Mothman could very well be the angel of death as sightings of the ominous and feared entity foretell impending disaster. This winged human-looking creature was first reported by citizens of West Virginia during the year prior to the horrible collapse of the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant. On November 20, 2016, an unidentified man allegedly captured images of what he believed to be the Mothman. The alleged return of Mothman happened 5 days after the 50th anniversary of the original sightings there in 1966.Originally Broadcast On 12/2/16
In this episode of Expanded Perspectives, the hosts kick things off by discussing the unusually cool temperatures in Texas this August. Following that, they delve into an extraordinary account from a U.S. Army Infantry Squad Leader who encounters a creature unlike any known to science while on a mission in Afghanistan. Next, the show features a listener's eerie story of spotting an unfamiliar face while hunting in the woods of Tennessee—could it have been a troll? After the break, Cam and Kyle explore a potential new wave of Mothman sightings. Are these truly Mothman encounters, or could they be a collection of different unidentified flying humanoids? They revisit the first reported sighting from 1966, when two gravediggers in Clendenin, West Virginia, saw a black figure fly overhead while working in a cemetery. This sighting, described as a 10-foot tall creature with glowing red eyes, was followed by another in nearby Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where a couple spotted the creature while driving at night. Reports continued to emerge, particularly around the TNT area near town. Some dismissed these sightings as misidentifications of cranes or owls, and there were even reports of Men in Black appearing in town soon after the sightings began. The most infamous encounter occurred on December 15, 1967, when the Mothman was seen on or above the Silver Bridge just before it collapsed, tragically killing 46 people. But this wasn't the only instance where the Mothman appeared before a disaster. In 1986, days before the catastrophic failure of a reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, multiple workers reported seeing a creature around the plant. This entity was later dubbed "The Blackbird of Chernobyl." There were other sightings around catastrophies. In April 2009, residents of La Junta in the Mexican state of Chihuahua began noticing a strange creature around their town just before a massive Swine Flu outbreak. In August 1900, multiple sightings of a giant black bird were reported in Galveston, Texas. On September 8th, a devastating hurricane struck Galveston, claiming more than 10,000 lives. In November 2019, a truck driver at O'Hare Airport in Chicago stepped away from his vehicle for a smoke break and saw a tall, birdlike man with glowing eyes. What is the Mothman? Why does it appear, and what does it want? All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives! The presence of winged humanoids is as old as the human imagination; but after reading and listening to hundreds of eyewitness accounts over the past four decades, I have concluded that these beings are much more than fantasy. The Chicagoland winged humanoid sightings phenomenon is probably the largest since the Mothman encounters in the vicinity of Point Pleasant, WV during 1966-67. Those sightings have become legendary, namely because the Mothman was seen as a harbinger of catastrophe, after the collapse of the Silver Bridge on the evening of December 15, 1967. The bridge spanned the Ohio River between Point Pleasant, WV, and Ohio and the disaster took the lives of 46 people. The fact that most people started to refer to the Chicago sightings as a ‘Mothman' is understandable. As with all winged humanoid sightings and encounters before and after the Mothman of Point Pleasant events, there may be a chance that these variously described beings could be related in some way or another. Are these winged humanoids the progeny of the Mothman? I believe there is a connection, even though that information eludes us. I have examined the witness accounts and the investigators' thought processes throughout the investigation. It's a work in progress, but we are still determined to find the truth. I believe that I have put together an interesting group of winged humanoid & Mothman reports that defy most rational explanations. Listen to the accounts and form your opinions. Author and researcher Lon Strickler will join us tonight to discuss reports of a winged creature in the Chicago skies. The presence of strange winged beings is as old as the human imagination. In the late Summer of 2011, reports of Mothman-like flying humanoids began to surface in the city of Chicago. After three brief sightings, there were no further accounts. Then, unexpectedly, in early 2017, a smattering of encounters emerged from different locations throughout the Chicago metro area until fifty sightings were reached before the end of the Summer. Why Chicago? Why now? This book will examine the witness accounts and the investigator's thought processes as these incidents were brought to our attention. The sightings continue… but we are determined to find the truth. In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a humanoid creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register, dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something".[1] The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States. The source of the legend is believed to have originated from sightings of out-of-migration sandhill cranes or herons.[2][3]The creature was introduced to a broader audience by Gray Barker in 1970,[4][5] and was later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies,[6] claiming that there were supernatural events related to the sightings and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. The book was later adapted into a 2002 film starring Richard Gere.[7]An annual festival in Point Pleasant is devoted to the Mothman legend.[8] On November 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant—Roger and Linda Scarberry and Steve and Mary Mallette—told police they had seen a large white creature whose eyes "glowed red" standing at the side of the road near "the TNT area," the site of a former World War II munitions plant.[9][10][11] Linda Scarberry described it as a "slender, muscular man" about seven feet tall with white wings and said that she could not discern its face due to the hypnotic effect of its eyes.[12] Distressed, the witnesses drove away at speed and said the creature flew after their car, making a screeching sound. It pursued them as far as Point Pleasant city limits.[9]Other people reported similar sightings during the next few days after local newspapers reported it. Two volunteer firemen who saw it said it was a "large bird with red eyes." Mason County Sheriff George Johnson commented that he believed the sightings were due to a huge heron he termed a "shitepoke." Contractor Newell Partridge told Johnson that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field, its eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors." Additionally, he blamed buzzing noises from his television set and the disappearance of his German Shepherd dog on the creature.[2] Wildlife biologist Robert L. Smith at West Virginia University told reporters that descriptions and sightings all fit the sandhill crane, a large American crane almost as tall as a man with a seven-foot wingspan featuring circles of reddish coloring around the eyes. The bird may have wandered out of its migration route and was unrecognized initially because it was not native to this region.[2][3]Batman and his antagonist, Killer Moth, are varyingly cited as influences for the term "Mothman."Due to the popularity of the Batman TV series at the time, the fictional superhero Batman and his rogues gallery were prominently featured in the public eye. While the villain Killer Moth did not appear in the show, the comic book influence of both him and Batman is believed by some to have influenced the coinage of the name “Mothman” in the local newspapers.[13] Do you frequently miss episodes of Mysterious Radio? Following the December 15, 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge and the death of 46 people, the incident gave rise to the legend and connected the Mothman sightings to the bridge collapse. According to Georgian newspaper Svobodnaya Gruziya, Russian UFOlogists claim that Mothman sightings in Moscow foreshadowed the 1999 Russian apartment bombings. The Mothman Prophecies (2002) is a major motion picture, loosely based on the 1975 book of the same name by John Keel. In 2016, WCHS-TV published a photo purported to be of Mothman taken by an anonymous man while driving on Route 2 in Mason County. Science writer Sharon A. Hill proposed that the photo showed "a bird, perhaps an owl, carrying a frog or snake away" and wrote that "there is zero reason to suspect it is the Mothman as described in legend. There are too many far more reasonable explanations."

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Sunday, Oct. 29 Bridge Valley officials tout the success of its dual enrollment program. The WV School of Osteopathic Medicine establishes a program at Fairmont State. And learn about famous art that was inspired by the Mothman legend…on today's daily304. #1 – From METRO NEWS – Bridge Valley Community and Technical College in South Charleston is making some positive strides for a few new efforts to increase and retain enrollment, as well as transform the overall student experience. The dual enrollment program the college has launched this year allows high school students to take a Bridge Valley course while still in high school if there is a teacher at that high school who has a certification allowing them to be an adjunct to Bridge Valley. Bridge Valley President Casey Sacks said there are a total of 34 high school students taking advantage of the dual enrollment in some form or another and from various districts. Sacks said they have been doing work on process mapping around the recruitment and admission teams, as well as a reorganization of student affairs. “I think a lot of this work has been what has driven some of our enrollment increase, because it has led us to a better job of communicating with people who are interested in the college, so it's something that we all recognize that we're going to continue doing moving forward,” Sacks said. The programs are designed to provide a firm foundation for students interested in osteopathic medicine, including the skills and credentials needed to gain admission and ultimately success in osteopathic medicine school, according to WVSOM President James Nemitz. “These are pipeline programs to educate students about what osteopathic medicine is and to provide them with a pathway to help them be successful at achieving acceptance at medical school,” Nemitz said. The WVSOM campus is located in Lewisburg and was founded as the Greenbrier College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1972. Through the Statewide Campus, WVSOM maintains locations throughout the state used by students in the final two years to complete clinical rotations. The institution is nationally recognized for the number of DOs that graduate from WVSOM and work in rural settings. “We're an attractive institution, especially for students who come from rural areas,” Nemitz said. “And we're experts in training those students to be rural medical providers.” Read more: https://wvmetronews.com/2023/10/22/osteopathic-school-of-medicine-inks-deals-with-fairmont-state-frostburg-state/ #3 – From WBOY-TV Clarksburg – The Legend of Mothman has inspired tons of West Virginians and artists, and items from beers to baseball uniforms have been created using the cryptid's image. Mothman is best known for its presence at the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant in 1967, right before the bridge collapsed, killing 46 people. The legend was widely unknown and forgotten even by the residents of Point Pleasant until John Keel, a prominent journalist and UFOlogist, immortalized the tale in “The Mothman Prophecies” book in 1975. One of the best-known visual art pieces associated with Mothman, the painting “Mothman” by comic book artist Frank Frazetta, was created around 1980. And of course, one of the most recognizable and famous Mothman-inspired artworks is the Bob Roach Mothman Statue in Point Pleasant. The stainless steel figure was created in 2003 and has become a main attraction for the town and a must-see during the Mothman Festival every year. You know him, you love him, you want to date him: Moth Man. This week Zoey talks about the Origin of Moth Man who we're technically including in the South since he was seen in the Appalachian Mountains. First seen in 1966, the cryptid was six or seven feet tall, light gray, had a wing span of 10 feet, and red eyes glowing in the headlights about two inches in diameter and spaced six inches apart. But what you might not know is his legacy of being a harbinger of death. He is known to show up right before a national tragedy like Chernobyl, 9/11, and the falling of the Silver Bridge. Though he's taken up quite a bit of legend, and has been meme-ified, is the part man part moth real? In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack reads three terrifyingly true stories and briefly discusses them. Send us your comments at atozenglishpodcast@gmail.com.The Mothman Sightings:In the 1960s, residents of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, reported a series of terrifying encounters with a winged creature known as the Mothman. Witnesses described it as a humanoid figure with large wings and glowing red eyes. The sightings culminated in the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge in 1967, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. Some believed the Mothman sightings were an omen or warning of the impending disaster. To this day, the legend of the Mothman persists, and the creature's true nature and purpose remain a mystery. The Disappearance of Flight MH370:On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The aircraft, carrying 239 passengers and crew, seemingly disappeared without a trace. Despite extensive search efforts, debris from the plane was not found for more than a year when several pieces washed ashore in the Indian Ocean. The disappearance of MH370 has led to numerous theories and speculations, including hijacking, pilot suicide, or technical malfunctions. The mystery surrounding the flight's disappearance and the fate of those on board has left families and investigators haunted by unanswered questions. The Villisca Axe Murders:In June 1912, in the small town of Villisca, Iowa, eight people, including six children, were brutally murdered in their home. The victims, the Moore family, and two young girls who were staying overnight, were all killed with an axe while they slept. The killer had bludgeoned them so severely that their faces were unrecognizable. The doors to the house were locked from the inside, and there were signs that the murderer had lingered in the house after the killings, eating food from the kitchen.Despite intensive investigations and trials, the case remained unsolved, and the killer was never identified or apprehended. The Villisca Axe Murders became one of the most famous and enduring unsolved mysteries in American history, haunting both the town and the true crime community for over a century. The house where the murders occurred is now a museum and is believed by some to be haunted due to the gruesome events that took place there.Podcast Website:https://atozenglishpodcast.com/a-to-z-quick-tok-36-3-terrifyingly-true-stories/Social Media:Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/671098974684413/-------------------------Tik Tok:@atozenglish1------------------------Instagram:@atozenglish22------------------------Twitter:@atozenglish22------------------------A to Z Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/theatozenglishpodcastCheck out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. For thirteen months from 1966 to 1967, a creature (or creatures) terrorized several small communities across Ohio and West Virginia, particularly the West Virginia town of Point Pleasant. The stories that come from witnesses to the phenomena are the stuff of nightmares, so much so that they were later made into a hit film. Was this all just a big media storm and all hogwash? Some say it was another example of mass hysteria, of people buying into a myth. Do you agree? Or will you even allow yourself to believe even a small portion of the stories to be true? Listen to our coverage to hear the history, the headlines, and the horror surrounding the Mothman.BLENDJET2: Go to blendjet.com and use code coffeeandcases12 to save 12% off your order OR use my special link and the discount will be applied at checkout: zen.ai/coffeeandcases12ZENCASTR: Use my special link zen.ai/coffeeandcases and use code coffeeandcases to save 30% off your first three months of Zencastr professional. #madeonzencastrPAPERLIKE: From now until the end of January, get a free digital pro planner bundle AND free shipping. "Have no fear. We come from a country that is not nearly as powerful as yours. We mean you no harm."Throughout 1966 and 1967, weird encounters were reported all throughout the region of West Virginia surrounding Point Pleasant. These ranged from sightings of bright lights in the sky to more direct encounters with strange beings. Journalists attempted to make sense of the endless barrage of sightings, which seemed to draw closer and closer to Point Pleasant throughout 1967. But when it all culminated in the collapse of the town's Silver Bridge in December of that year, resulting in 46 deaths, people began to question if what they had seen was a dark omen... This episode is brought to you by "THE MOTHMAN TAPES," a found-footage horror movie made by myself and my friends over at 1289 Films (who have previously produced such films as "The Acid King" and "Homecoming").
