Normally underwater, the stone structures have become more noticeable because of recent drought conditions. The rock, which resembles the layout of a stone street, is a geological formation known as tessellated pavement, according to a West Virginia University geology professor. It is the result of tensional cracks that form in rock under applied stress. The unusual pattern offers a glimpse into the forces that shaped our mountains and rivers millions of years ago. Students at the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine kick off the semester with a day of community service…Point Pleasant is the focus of a popular online travel show's latest episode…and capture your WV travels with a photo from an Almost Heaven swing showcasing some of the state's iconic landmarks…on today's daily304. #1 – From THE REAL WV – “Medical school is more than a medical education,” says Dr. Jim Nemitz, President of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. “It's also about learning to become community leaders.” WVSOM takes that mantra seriously, by offering a capstone service activity at the end of the first week of school for incoming students. As part of orientation and coming on the heels of their first classes, students spend their first Saturday in medical school doing community service projects across the Greenbrier Valley. Volunteers from WVSOM visited 16 different sites to offer their skills in service. Host sites included Clifton Presbyterian Church, State Fair of West Virginia, Child Youth & Advocacy Center, Greenbrier County Public Library, Greenbrier Humane Society, and the Williamsburg Community Building. At least one staff or faculty member accompanied a group of students at each location, performing work such as organizing books, landscaping, dog-walking, light construction, and painting. Students track their volunteer hours all year long as part of their future placement in a residency. They participate in a national program called T.O.U.C.H. (Translating Osteopathic Understanding Into Community Health), which places value on community service as part of medical education. Steve Ward has been fascinated by the unexplained for over half a century. West Virginia Affiliated Construction Trades Director Justin Williams said their members move the dirt, build the bridges, mine the coal, repair the trucks, energize circuits, and build the hospitals that care for our families and they are training future workers. The organization manages apprenticeship programs that have starting wages of $20 to $23 per hour, with some opportunities at the journeyman level to make $40 per hour plus benefits and retirement. Williams said West Virginia is quickly becoming “ground zero” for a wide range of employment opportunities, from electric school bus manufacturing to aviation, aerospace, and, of course, the trades that build and maintain the facilities. The training programs are available to residents, or residents of neighboring counties in other states, who are 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, have a driver's license, and can pass a drug test. In West Virginian folklore, the Mothman is a humanoid creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register, dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States. The source of the legend is believed to have originated from sightings of out-of-migration sandhill cranes or herons. The creature was introduced to a wider audience by Gray Barker in 1970, and was later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, claiming that there were paranormal events related to the sightings, and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. The book was later adapted into a 2002 film, starring Richard Gere.[ History On November 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant—Roger and Linda Scarberry, and Steve and Mary Mallette—told police they had seen a large black creature whose eyes "glowed red", standing at the side of the road near "the TNT area", the site of a former World War II munitions plant. Linda Scarberry described it as a "slender, muscular man" about seven feet tall with white wings, and said that she was unable to discern its face due to the hypnotic effect of its eyes. Distressed, the witnesses drove away at high speed, and said that the creature flew after their car, making a screeching sound. It pursued them as far as Point Pleasant city limits. During the next few days, other people reported similar sightings, after local newspapers reported it. Two volunteer firemen who saw it said it was a "large bird with red eyes". Mason County Sheriff George Johnson commented that he believed the sightings were due to an unusually large heron he termed a "shitepoke". Contractor Newell Partridge told Johnson that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field, its eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors". Additionally, he blamed buzzing noises from his television set and the disappearance of his German Shepherd dog on the creature. Wildlife biologist Robert L. Smith at West Virginia University told reporters that descriptions and sightings all fit the sandhill crane, a large American crane almost as tall as a man with a seven-foot wingspan featuring circles of reddish coloring around the eyes. The bird may have wandered out of its migration route, and therefore was unrecognized at first because it was not native to this region. Due to the popularity of the Batman TV series at the time, the fictional superhero Batman and his rogues gallery were prominently featured in the public eye. While the villain Killer Moth did not appear in the show, the comic book influence of both him and Batman is believed by some to have influenced the coinage of the name "Mothman" in the local newspapers. Following the December 15, 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge and the death of 46 people, the incident gave rise to the legend and connected the Mothman sightings to the bridge collapse. According to Georgian newspaper Svobodnaya Gruziya, Russian UFOlogists claim that Mothman sightings in Moscow foreshadowed the 1999 Russian apartment bombings. The Mothman Prophecies (2002) is a major motion picture, loosely based on the 1975 book of the same name by John Keel. In 2016, WCHS-TV published a photo purported to be of Mothman taken by an anonymous man while driving on Route 2 in Mason County. Science writer Sharon A. Hill proposed that the photo showed "a bird, perhaps an owl, carrying a frog or snake away" and wrote that "there is zero reason to suspect it is the Mothman as described in legend. There are too many far more reasonable explanations."

The WV School of Osteopathic Medicine establishes a program at Fairmont State. And learn about famous art that was inspired by the Mothman legend…on today's daily304. #1 – From METRO NEWS – Bridge Valley Community and Technical College in South Charleston is making some positive strides for a few new efforts to increase and retain enrollment, as well as transform the overall student experience. The dual enrollment program the college has launched this year allows high school students to take a Bridge Valley course while still in high school if there is a teacher at that high school who has a certification allowing them to be an adjunct to Bridge Valley. Bridge Valley President Casey Sacks said there are a total of 34 high school students taking advantage of the dual enrollment in some form or another and from various districts. Sacks said they have been doing work on process mapping around the recruitment and admission teams, as well as a reorganization of student affairs. “I think a lot of this work has been what has driven some of our enrollment increase, because it has led us to a better job of communicating with people who are interested in the college, so it's something that we all recognize that we're going to continue doing moving forward,” Sacks said. The programs are designed to provide a firm foundation for students interested in osteopathic medicine, including the skills and credentials needed to gain admission and ultimately success in osteopathic medicine school, according to WVSOM President James Nemitz. “These are pipeline programs to educate students about what osteopathic medicine is and to provide them with a pathway to help them be successful at achieving acceptance at medical school,” Nemitz said. The legend was widely unknown and forgotten even by the residents of Point Pleasant until John Keel, a prominent journalist and UFOlogist, immortalized the tale in “The Mothman Prophecies” book in 1975. One of the best-known visual art pieces associated with Mothman, the painting “Mothman” by comic book artist Frank Frazetta, was created around 1980. And of course, one of the most recognizable and famous Mothman-inspired artworks is the Bob Roach Mothman Statue in Point Pleasant. This week, we have a story that was sent to us by The Mothman Museum, of you guessed it, a Mothman sighting! Thursday the 2nd Nov. 2006, my son and I were heading to Ravenswood (not too far from Point Pleasant).It was just before 5 PM and it was starting to become dusk. On my side of the road, I saw an extremely tall human-like figure literally jump/float straight up from the ground to the top of the trees. There are no houses near there, just trees and some empty land behind. I felt no fear, just a feeling of “Wow, what the hell was that thing?” I mentioned it to my son a couple of minuteslater when we neared town but did not tell him exactly where I had seen it. He told me he had seen it as well, but we both had stayed silent because of some other weird things that had been happening lately at our home...we were spooked enough as it was.I had not stopped to turn around because I was in a hurry to get somewhere before a certain time. On our way home, maybe 75-100 ft further down the road from the original site, both my son and I saw the figure again. He was moving upward in the branches of the trees. Yesterday (Friday Nov 3 2006) right before dark, my son saw it again, outside near a small patch of woods. This week, we have a story that was sent to us by a member of our community who may have had an encounter with one of the men in black while working at The Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. When the Mothman Museum was in its original location in the early 2000s, myself, an employee and my grandfather had a strange encounter. A Young guy, Mid 20's, wearing sunglasses, a black suit, tie and shoes entered the museum and began asking questions about the Point Pleasant Mothman and UFO sightings while referencing the movie "The Cell" . As the questions continued I began to get more and more creeped out until I finally called for our other employee who was working in the back. The guy eventually began to wrap up his strange interrogation of us when my grandfather entered the museum, but before our visitor left the museum he asked if we had "Any complimentary tobacco products or Licorice?". We explained to him, no we did not, and he left. Once he was out of the museum my grandfather asked if any of us had noticed how strange his shoes were. My grandfather described them as "having thick soles, 2 1/2 to 3 inches thick". The person who sent me this story mentioned that they get all kinds of odd visitors. I've seen a lot of weird things myself when I've gone in. They mentioned that this experience has always stuck out to them. Especially the part where they asked for complimentary tobacco products or Licorice. It's like the guy didn't know what year it was.Big thanks to the anonymous Mothman Museum employee who sent this story in. Those were definitely some off behaviors mentioned. They are the authors of the recently published "Bridging the Tragedy." It touches on the Mothman legacy, but it focuses on the various types of trauma the people of Point Pleasant, WV experienced in the aftermath of the Silver Bridge collapse. They interviewed a few people who had connections to that Dec. 15, 1967 event. Jaci and Bill realized that they grew out of such a traumatic event. Many became community leaders and did many things to benefit the community. Some faith based traits are implied. Instead of people turning to destructive lifestyles to deal with trauma, Jaci and Bill's interviewees demonstrate that one can be resiliant in the aftermath of a disaster. It's a fascinating read. They debuted their book at this year's Mothman Festival, where they were also presenters. We're sure if you are into the paranormal you've at least heard of Point Pleasant West Virginia. We decided to do this video since we've had some many stories originate from this town, and a lot of our viewers saying they wish they could see it.The Town of Point Pleasant was first settled in 1774 along the banks of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, but wasn't officially chartered just yet. Not long after this on October 10, 1774 the Battle of Point Pleasant occurred between the Shawnee Chief Cornstalk and General Andew Lewis.In 1777, Chief Cornstalk and his son traveled to Fort Randolph to discuss peace between their tribes and the settlers, but they were captured and killed. It is believed that Chief Cornstalk laid a curse upon the land as he was slain. Then, finally, in 1804 Mason County split off from Kanawha County, and the city officially became Point Pleasant.A lot of people believe that the paranormal happenings centered around Point Pleasant happen due to the curse of Chief Cornstalk. If you've ever spent some time around Point Pleasant residents you'll notice when something goes wrong they jokingly say “there's that Chief Cornstalk Curse again” We'll mention a few of the paranormal happenings but wont go into great detail on them since we've already done stories on a good number of them, or plan to in the future.One of the earliest paranormal stories we've found are on The Mason County Ghost Lights. The Ghost Lights showed up around 1810. People report seeing what looks like a lantern bobbing up and down in a particular area.Possibly the next paranormal happenings in town could be from the Lowe Hotel. It's hard to say when the hauntings reported there started, but the hotel was opened in 1901. Guests have reported seeing apparitions, as well as seeing shadow and yearning strange sounds that can't be explained.After that would be the UFO stories that may have started in 1931 with the Phantom Blimp Crash. Then there were the Mothman sightings and a huge uptick in UFO sightings. Between 1966-1967 there were hundreds of UFO and Mothman sights in the area. For the most part this seemed to slow down when the Silver Bridge collapsed in 1967, but some folks say the UFOs and Mothman are still around.That pretty much sums up the paranormal occurrences, that aside Point Pleasant West Virginia is a fun place to visit and is a town that fully embraces their paranormal culture. There are many great places to visit, including The World's Only Mothman Museum and their sister store The Point Pleasant Trading Company. The Mothman Museum is also working to complete The Mothman themed escape room, and also starting an indoor cryptid themed mini golf course! The Lowe Hotel is located just across the street from the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Originally named the Spencer Hotel in honor of J.S. Spencer, a local judge and steamboat-company operator, the hotel opened in 1901 to cater to those traveling along the Ohio River. Sleeping arrangements for guests occupied the top floors, while the lower floors housed businesses such as a barber shop, bank, and billiards room.When the Lowe family purchased the hotel in 1929 after the stock market crash, they renamed it the Lowe Hotel. Ruth, Rush, and Marcia Finley, the current owners and managers of the Lowe, purchased it in 1990. The Finleys have been continually upgrading and adding their personal touch to the building. A visit to the Lowe is a step back in time with today's conveniences. The friendly atmosphere and hospitality create a very pleasant and restful experience for any traveler.Because of the hotel's longevity, it's no surprise that it is supposedly haunted. There are several ghosts who call the Lowe Hotel their home. Among them is a young woman in a dress that many have spotted dancing on the first two floors. On the second floor, guests have reported seeing the apparition of a young girl riding a tricycle and have even heard the creepy squeaks of her tricycle in the empty hallways. On the third floor, guests have reported hearing a soft whistling sound, as well as doors opening and closing on their own. Also on the third floor is the ghost of "Captain Jim", who many have reported seeing looking out of the window of room 316 toward the Ohio River. The creepiest part? He has no legs.I have personally stayed at the Lowe Hotel several times, but one visit stands out above the rest. Around 2:00 a.m. during that stay, I woke up to hear footsteps going up and down the hallway on the third floor. The noise lasted for around half an hour. The next morning, when the lady at the front desk asked how I slept, I mentioned the people walking around in the middle of the night. Bigfoot may be the most well known cryptid...but Mothman can fly!Steve Ward has been fascinated by the unexplained for over half a century. There were two major events that inspired his interest in the unexplained: Growing up in Michigan, the March 1966 UFO flap occurred virtually in his backyard. And the following November a winged humanoid chased two couples down a lonely country road near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The legend of the Mothman was born. Steve would be chasing the Mothman the rest of his life. Influenced primarily by John Keel and Jacques Vallee, his views on UFOs became unconventional and moved more toward a more paranormal explanation. Season 2 Episode 785/20/22 We visited Bardstown. We hit the 1792 Distillery. They were the only distillery that offered a free tour. We parked in Bardstown and walked 20 minutes to it. They gave a great 45 minute tour and provided 4 samples and a piece of bourbon chocolate. We bought a few bottles and some if the bourbon chocolates. We learned they are ending the tour and gift shop in June 2022. We then walked around town and had Kentucky Fried chicken and cornbread which were delicious at Mammy's. We then checked a bunch of bars and only found 2 that were having live music but neither bands were playing bluegrass. So we went to McIntyre's Winery. I liked their Corn Cob Wine which I had never heard of Lol. The next morning we drove for about an hour, dropped the rig and took the Jeep to the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. We figured we would spend an hour there. Well we ended up being there for 3 hours. We took a great tour and learned about the history of the Shakers. https://shakervillageky.org/Shaker We will return. We then went to Wildside Winery which is a Harvest Host location. We sampled a couple wines and bought a couple bottles. We are 60 miles from Church Hill Downs so we watched the derby on TV. The next day we drove to Callies Campground in Red River Gorge. We checked in got set up and then headed over to natural bridge State resort Park in Kentucky. This park is a part of the Red River Gorge geological area which is in the Daniel Boone National Forest which is part of the Cumberland ranger district. We hiked the natural bridge trail which was only about a half a mile but went straight up hill for 500 ft. This is really an impressive Arch. We hiked on top of the crossed over it and hike for another mile to more viewpoints overlooking the Daniel Boone National Forest. We did a total of 4 miles which was perfect. We then drove over to Miguel's Pizza. A few people have told us you need to eat there so we did. The amazing thing is with their pizzas and they have a list of around 30 different toppings that you can add to create your own. Us being from New York and New Jersey like a thinner crispier crust and our pizza but other than that this was delicious. We then stopped in at Gorge Outfitters. We got into a conversation with the owner who gave us tips on numerous trails and parks to see. Visit them, they are wonderful. https://gorrg.com/The next day we hiked the Auxier Ridge trail by recommendation from the server at Miguel's. The next morning we decided to stay in this park for an extra night. We drove over to Nada tunnel. We had this tunnel saved on our Google maps for about a year or so and we do know that NADA means nothing. So we assumed that not a tunnel but a tunnel to nowhere. However we found out that it's a hand carved tunnel that originated as a railroad tunnel way back when. Now it's a single Lane car tunnel that is really awesome to drive through. So after hitting the tunnel we drove around to the trailhead for the Auxier Ridge trail. We knew that this was going to be a 2.2 mile hike to the edge of the Ridge and then back. But we got to a beautiful overlook had a snack and a glass of wine and sore across the valley was twin Arch. So we pulled out our maps and we realized that there's another trail at the end of The Ridge trail that joins up and takes you to the twin Arch so we changed our plans and that's what we did. So it turned out to be an 8 mile beautiful hike. The next day we decided to stay an extra night to do numerous short hikes to give our legs a break. Beautiful ! Lots of arches.From here we were going to be staying at the Kanawha State Park in Kentucky we had the campground reserved and the campsite fit a 37 ft motorhome. we had reserved this a couple of months ago. Luckily Trish was looking on line and she saw a lot of people said you'll never make it up the road in a motorhome. We called canceled our reservation and they refunded our money. We then went to Roadside Park Port Of St. Albans. (304) 722-4625https://maps.app.goo.gl/ENR6t9DctNYY8dRU8And stayed there for one night. We'll never stay there again. Too many smelly factories and super loud traffic all night long. We got up the next morning and drove to Point Pleasant WV. To visit the Mothman Museum. And to see the Silver Bridge which collapsed in 1967 people in point pleasant WV kept seeing a winged creature around a bridge in town. Shortly after the bridge collapsed. Some people say he was scaring people away from the bridge and others say he made it collapse. That sparked the movie. Are the two connected? Set up was intending to do a walk off of a short hike. But we met a couple and got into a nice conversation with them. Hi Kenneth and Elaine if your listening. But then went back to the rig grilled some pizza and then met up with Kenneth and Elaine again and talked for a couple of hours. The next day we had a few different trails in the park totaling a little over 6 miles. Very beautiful. And then had a relaxing evening and did another walk around the campground. Want pics? No one else there and nothing to do for 30+ miles. It was 85 degrees so we didn't want to even walk around the "park". The next day we drove to the Sweeter Side of the Feud Winery. We met and talked for over an hour with Mark Hatfield who is the great, great grandson of Devil Anse Hatfield of the famous Hatfield and McCoy Feud. We walked in and Brenda invited us over to sample some of their wines. Within walk down the bar to where Mark was standing. He started pouring samples of different Bourbons whiskeys and moonshines. Some of these samples were full shot and then I asked him about one of the other flavored ones they had and he said pour some and try it. I've never seen this before in any Distillery or Winery ever. You could walk up and down the bar and pour a shot after shot if you wanted to. Wow ! I didn't count all the different flavors but I did stop counting at 42. Unreal what a nice down to earth guy Mark is. We board our fair share and a shirt. But after we got back to the rig the one thing I wish I had done was to get a picture with Mark Hatfield. https://sweetersideofthefeud.com/We then went to Chestnut ridge winery. It was a bit cooler than it was yesterday so we decided to walk around the campground and we grew a greater appreciation of this county park. They have a historic village hidden away. With a school house post office etc . We found these while walking around. They have a few ponds with benches overlooking them. And then we saw that there was going to be a lunar eclipse that evening. Now this county park is listed as a dark space. So we waited till around 10:00 and the eclipse was just starting It was supposed to be really bad rains but that never settled in. So I ended up grabbing my good canon camera set up a tripod focused in on the moon and got some great photos of the red moon eclipse. Then morning around 6:00 a.m. the rains came in. This story is one of the more famous ones and is known as the one that started Mothman's popularity and gave the creature its name. It comes from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, three days after the previous story, on November 15, 1966. Two couples, the Scarberrys and the Mallettes, were driving around the abandoned North Power Plant in the TNT area when they noticed a creature coming from the trees above one of the bunkers. They later described this humanoid creature as bird-like with a large wingspan and piercing, fiery red eyes. The driver put the car in reverse and started driving away from the area. It was then that they noticed a large, dead dog lying on the side of the road. Shortly after the group discovered the dead dog, the creature jumped out at them. The driver of the vehicle floored it. Soon after, the group noticed the creature flying beside the car, screeching like a giant mouse. The creature managed to keep up with the car at speeds up to 100 mph. It then disappeared into a nearby field.The group later went to the police station and reported the event. The deputy at the police station didn't believe them at first, but, after seeing how truly terrified the couples were, decided to check it out. The deputy, along with the couples, drove around the area. Here, they noticed strange static noises coming from the radio. Also, the dead dog they had seen before was no longer there.The next day, the sheriff and the couples held a press conference at the city courthouse to share the story. Due to the description of the creature and, at the time, the popularity of the Batman TV show, newspapers coined the name “Mothman”, inspired by the popularity of the Adam West Batman show.News of the creature eventually spread outside of Point Pleasant, and it changed the town forever. Today, if you visit, you'll see a town enriched with Mothman culture. There's the world's only Mothman Museum as well as several shops selling merchandise. If you have never heard of it, the Mothman is a creature made famous by encounters in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Several eyewitnesses have described it as a human-shaped and sized creature with bird-like wings and feathers. Its most distinguishing feature is its reflective red eyes. There have been several sightings of this creature throughout the years, even before the incidents reported in Point Pleasant. Some believe that it may even be the same creature as the Thunderbird from Native American legend.This first story is not as well known as some of the other Mothman stories. However, it is believed to be one of the first encounters with the creature. On November 1, 1966, several National Guardsmen in Point Pleasant saw what they described as a large, brown, man-shaped figure on a tree limb near the National Guard Armory.Our next story took place on November 12, 1966, in Clendenin, West Virginia – a few days before the more famous sighting on the 15th. Kenneth Duncan, along with four other men, was digging a grave for his father-in-law when he noticed a pair of red, glowing dots coming from the nearby woods. He then noticed the pair of dotted eyes that belonged to what looked like a tall brown man. Shortly after he noticed this, a set of wings spread from the man. Then, it jumped up and momentarily flew over the men's heads before disappearing. This creature eventually became known as the Mothman.The Mothman has always been one of my favorite cryptids. I remember reading about it when I was very young and being extremely creeped out. That's probably what started my interest in the creature. I plan on doing additional posts in the future about the Mothman and the strange occurrences in Point Pleasant.If you want to learn more about the Mothman, I recommend visiting the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant. In the late 1960s, reports of sightings of a giant, winged creature with a 10-foot wingspan and huge, globe-like red eyes started pouring in by the dozens in the small West Virginia town of Point Pleasant. Welcome to Gallipolis, the old French city! Located beside the Ohio River, the border between Ohio and West Virginia, the city was founded in 1790 by 500 French refugees fleeing the French Revolution. The refugees purchased the land from the Scioto Company, a purported land development company registered in Paris. When they arrived in the area, they discovered that the deeds were worthless and the Scioto company never owned the land They ultimately had to purchase the land again from the Ohio Company. In 1928, the Silver Bridge was constructed to connect Gallipolis to Point Pleasant, WV. The bridge was poorly maintained and collapsed during rush hour traffic in 1967, killing 46 people. It was replaced by the Silver Memorial Bridge in 1969. Gallipolis was called home by Bob Evans, founder of the Bob Evans chain of restaurants, and Emma Gatewood, the first woman to through-hike the Appalachain Trail. The city is also home to the Mothman Museum, which is devoted to the local legend of the Mothman. Join us for a leisurely walk through this quaint city.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Mothman! Well, we're pretty sure "Mothman" isn't any of those things, neither a moth nor a man, or some unholy combination of the two. If the descriptions by over 100 witnesses are accurate and the symptoms of seeing such a sight are related, then whatever this creature is, it's abilities may go beyond even what is considered possible for an earthly cryptid. Magical flight, a burning, mesmerizing gaze, and haunting dreams are some of his reported traits, but is clairvoyance also one of them? All legends are local in a way, and when one local person tells a tale of a strange encounter, it can be a cause for skeptical snickers from the townsfolk. When more than a hundred people from the same region all see the same thing, it can lead to books, a major Motion Picture and even an annual festival. Such is the case with Point Pleasant, West Virginia and the Ohio River Valley's own "Mothman" — whose local sightings turned into national legend. There are several elements that contribute to the intense curiosity that still surrounds the stories of the Mothman, himself described as a winged, humanoid creature with glowing red eyes and a sympathetic, if mysterious nature. In the 1960s the small rural town of Point Pleasant West Virginia was plagued with sightings of a large man like winged creature over eight feet tall and said to have had a a wingspan of over ten feet wide. Over 100 people claim to have encountered the winged beast . Not long after these sighting the legend of the Mothman was born. Jeff Wamsley is the author of Mothman: Behind the Red Eyes and co-author of Mothman: The Facts Behind the Legend, he is also the director of the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, WV and helps in organizing the annual Mothman Festival. The festival is coming up on September 20-21, 2008 and will be held in Point Pleasant, WV.
