He estimates he played on 40 teams from T-Ball to the Big Leagues and was the best player on about 10 of those teams. If that's the case, how did Ryan Spilborghs make an MLB roster and spend over a decade in professional baseball? Because he just kept chasing the dream. He knew if he kept going, others would fade away and he'd still be there. “Spilly” was born in Santa Barbara and stayed close to home for his college baseball career, mostly because all the other schools wanted him to walk on. At UC Santa Barbara, he was on scholarship, but quickly realized the work he needed to put in to actually play. In 2002, the Colorado Rockies drafted him in the 7th round thanks to a Rockies' scout (Billy Eppler, now GM of the NY Mets) who was in Long Beach for some surfing and happened to watch Ryan hit an improbable home run for the Gauchos against Long Beach State. From there he toiled in the Rockies' minor league system for a few years and made trusting friendships with guys he'd eventually play with in The Show, like Troy Tulowitzki, Garrett Atkins and Corey Sullivan to name a few. Spilly made his MLB debut on July 16, 2005. He played one game and was back to AAA. He returned in 2006 and hit his first home run. In 2007 he was an integral part of the Rockies' crazy regular season ending and playoff run which brough them to the World Series. After becoming a free agent in 2011, Spilly knocked around a few other teams including internationally for a couple years. In 2014, he joined the Rockies TV Broadcast crew as an analyst, a gig he still enjoys today, along with being a dad to two and husband to Stacey. Follow Spilly on Twitter @SpillyGoat19

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin' Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing notes from Mets camp and Billy Eppler's first press conference. We also talk about Khalil Lee's unfortunate presence at spring training, Keith Hernandez's new SNY contract, Phil Regan's lawsuit against the Mets for age discrimination. and more. Next, we talk about how the combination of other owners' discontent over Steve Cohen's spending and the impending bankruptcy of Bally Sports precipitated the formation of an economic reform committee by the league.  It is the week of notable quotes from MLB owners named John—both good and bad quotes. We talk about that and the media continuing to give abusers and toxic men the spotlight for some reason. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what's making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin' Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. When the Mets originally agreed to a deal with Carlos Correa, it certainly felt like Steve Cohen was driving talks. Now as the Mets try to hammer out a very difficult contract, GM Billy Eppler is on center stage trying to make it all come together in a way that protects the Mets. Host Ryan Finkelstein discusses Eppler's first year running the Mets and if signing Correa to the right deal should lead to a promotion where he becomes the new President of Baseball Operations. Ryan also brings up the possibility of former Brewers president David Stearns taking the position next year, as the one real viable candidate for Eppler to work under. Hour 1: “Are you kidding me?!” That's how Gio starts the show after the middle-of-the-night news that Carlos Correa and the Mets have agreed to a deal. Boomer wonders if Scott Boras and Correa orchestrated the move. Mets fans are jubilant this morning. Steve Cohen is spending like a drunken sailor and everyone loves it. Gio says Steve Cohen was as bothered by the end of last season as the fans were and that the Mets now act the way every fan wants their team to. Jerry starts with the unfortunate breaking news that Franco Harris has passed away. Then he gets into the local news of the day: Carlos Correa coming to the Mets. It has been a ROUGH offseason for the San Francisco Giants. Zach Wilson will start against the Jaguars tomorrow night. Sunday Ticket might be moving to YouTube and Gio doesn't like the details of the deal. In the final segment of the hour, we hear from extremely happy Mets fans, including Boomer and Gio, after Steve Cohen went the extra mile to try and win a World Series. Hour 2: The excitement continues as Mets fans are FEELING IT this morning. Here, Boomer and Gio discuss the impact the Correa move will have on the rest of the clubhouse. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio points out how everyone working with the show right now is a happy Mets fan. The guys pay tribute to Franco Harris and oh by the way, the Knicks won their 8th straight game last night. In the final segment of the hour, the guys discuss Carlos Correa changing positions to play with Lindor and how the Mets are becoming a global brand. Hour 4: The final hour begins the same way the first three did today. Boomer in Gio are still in disbelief after waking up to the news that Carlos Correa is signing with the Mets. Less than 24 hours after Correa's press conference with the Giants was postponed, the Mets deal came together. Gio wonders if we've ever seen anything like this before with a big contract in sports? Are other MLB owners going to be angry about Steve Cohen's spending? One caller was so excited to share the news with his son that he broke his wrist rushing around in the dark. Is any owner loved the way Mets fans love Steve Cohen? Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first Boomer remembers Franco Harris. Gio explains how the 1972 Steelers losing the AFC Championship game a week after the Immaculate Reception was overshadowed at the time because the game was played the same day Roberto Clemente passed away. Boomer wonders how quickly fans of other teams gave up on their now-star QBs with Jets fans growing more and more frustrated with Zach Wilson. In the final segment of the show, a Yankees fan wonders if there's a conspiracy and then says the Mets should stop trying to be the Yankees. Boomer and Gio can just laugh to wrap up a fun day.

Welcome to the offseason Mets fans! We hope you enjoyed masquerading as Phillies fans for a couple of weeks if you chose to do so, but now it's back to business for Billy Eppler and the Mets! The Mets started the offseason early by ensuring everyone knows it's about the Mets, baby. They re-signed Edwin Diaz to a 5-year contract, the most lucrative deal for a relief pitcher in MLB history. On the pod this week, we break down why this deal is Good and why you shouldn't worry about the Mets prioritizing Diaz over Nimmo or deGrom. Speaking of deGrom, we weigh in on the first round of rumors surrounding the Mets' ace. Do we think they can bring him back? Where do we think the Mets' payroll winds up. Likewise, we opine about the Mets hiring of Eric Jagers as their new Director of Pitching Development. Hint: it's a good hire. We also break down Trea Turner and where the Mets' possible pursuit of him might fit into the hectic shortstop market. Plus, Sam gives one big non-Mets related free agent prediction. Hour 1: We actually opened with local hockey talk but Gio quickly changed that to Jets & Giants talk. Both fan bases will probably be happy if they just make the playoffs. Even if they get bounced in the first round, that would be a successful season for both the Giants and the Jets. Boomer said the Aaron Judge contract offers are going to be ‘breathtaking'. Xavier McKinney said his ATV hand injury was a ‘freak accident'. Gio said if he had a bye week he'd be eating cuban sandwiches on a beach sipping cocktails. Boomer wants to know where we are with Christmas decorations. Jerry is here for his first update but first we talked about election coverage last night. The Knicks & Nets play tonight in Brooklyn. We heard from Brian Daboll on Xavier McKinney's injury. We also heard from Xavier himself. Parks Frazier will call the plays for the Colts this Sunday. Aaron Rodgers was on the McAfee show and talked about Mike McCarthy coming back to Lambeau this week. And then we heard from Mike McCarthy. Jerry Jones had thoughts on OBJ joining the Cowboys. Chris Russo had a coughing fit while trying to talk. Billy Eppler tells us about talking to deGrom's representatives. Brian Cashman talked about the current state of the Yankees. The Rangers lost to the Islanders last night. The Oilers' Evander Kane had his wrist sliced by a skate but is doing well. In the final segment of the hour, we talk about potential buyers for the Washington Commanders including Jay Z and Jeff Bezos.  Hour 2: Kyrie and Adam Silver had a ‘productive' meeting yesterday. Kyrie had a chance at the beginning to apologize but he didn't do that. He kept making it worse with press conferences. Boomer compares this situation to the Imus situation. If Kyrie would have apologized properly the first time, none of this would have happened. And why are people comparing this to the Brett Favre situation? Favre is probably going to jail so it's not comparable. Even this has become a racial issue. Nobody ever says ‘what about Meyers Leonard?' Jerry returns for another update and starts with Brian Daboll commenting on Xavier McKinney's injury. Parks Frazier will call plays for the Colts this week. Dan Orlovsky wants to join the Colts staff. Boomer said Coach Cowher is going to be annoyed by this Colts situation on Sunday. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and said Mike McCarthy will be welcomed by Packers fans. Jerry Jones talks about the potential of OBJ to the Cowboys. Which NFL owner would you want to hang out with in Vegas? Billy Eppler talked about deGrom being interested in staying in NY. Brian Cashman talked about the Aaron Judge contract situation. Gio said the Yankees are so boring right now. Very stale. Chris Russo has no idea how to use a computer mouse. Francesa also didn't know how to use a mouse early on. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer once was at a party with Jerry Jones and he thought he was Phil Simms. A caller says he partied with Jerry Jones in Spain this past Summer. His story was painfully long and had way too many pointless details.  Hour 3: Al had a situation at his voting location where the whole place was almost compromised. A caller has an explanation for ‘I AM' from Kyrie Irving. Will Kyrie play for the Nets again? After yesterday's meeting with Adam Silver, maybe. We took a lot of calls on the Kyrie situation. Jerry returns for an update and starts with some audio from Daniel Jones about Xavier McKinney. He also said the Texans are a good team. So he's a liar. Mike McDaniel on Justin Fields scrambling. Mike McCarthy gets very emotional about returning to Green Bay. Will any of us cry when we finally leave WFAN? Brian Cashman was asked about Aaron Judge and offered a ‘no comment'. We heard from Chris King on the Islanders game winning goal. In the final segment of the hour, ratings for the NFL have been great for CBS. The Bucs running game has been so bad, Tom Brady is throwing the ball like 58 times a game. He makes decisions quickly and doesn't get hit. Could Brady wind up on his boyhood team, the 49'ers, before all is said and done? Hour 4: If the Giants beat the Texans they will get to 7 wins, which they haven't had in a number of years now. A caller gave us a long history lesson that was very confusing to us. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio from Xavier McKinney on his ATV accident in Cabo. Aaron Rodgers talked about Mike McCarthy coming back to Lambeau. Jerry Jones talks about OBJ being on the Cowboys' radar. And the Islanders beat the Rangers. The Devils win again to make it seven straight. Let's guess the spread between the Seahawks and Bucs in Germany. The Colts are -6 point underdogs in Vegas to the Raiders. Did Shaun Morash poop his pants on air?
