In Star Wars the Last Jedi we see Snoke up close and personal, where we can imagine his scars and wounds a little better than in the Force Awakens...however...the Visual Dictionary gives us the diagnosis of these injuries and just exactly what could cause them in life. Did he get them from a lightning battle? A Lightsaber to the head? Did he fight Luke Skywalker at some point in time? Does Kylo Ren know the secret behind the wounds? Surely the others who have known Snoke since Ben was a little boy, should know a good deal about him... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Star Wars Episode 9 Rise of Skywalker had a lot of cool little easter eggs. Vader's Castle and Mustafar, was definitely one of them! Here's all the new canon info from the Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo. I wish Kylo went into his Castle, but now that it's all in ruins...I guess this is as good as it gets! In Star Wars The Last Jedi we see Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To, the very FIRST Jedi Temple...however...the film fails to explains just how he got there. Thanks to the Visual Dictionary, we now know just how he found it! Could the Prime Jedi be Snoke? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Let's take one final trip to the world of Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker. Join Carlos today at GeekFest Rants as he reviews the movie adaptation novel version of the last chapter of the Skywalker saga. How much more does this book add to the existing film? Does it make the film any better? What exactly is an Expanded Edition? And how much does this book rely on the VIsual Dictionary as source material?

Months before the release of The Rise of Skywalker, Georgetown physics profession Patrick Johnson joined me on the show to talk about some of the more remarkable images we saw in teasers and trailers for the movie. In specific, we talked about the Sinta Glacier Colony; the Death Star wreckage; and the orbaks running on the Star Destroyer. Now that the movie is out, and now that we have additional information thanks to the Visual Dictionary (and thanks to DK Publishing for gifting me a review copy), I'm using today's episode to revisit those particular physics topics. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***
Ochi of Bestoon is quite the mystery character in The Rise of Skywalker. He turns out to be the missing link between the mysterious and unreachable Sith fortress at Exegol, and a wayfinder to reach it. We don't learn a heck of a lot about Ochi in the movie, and the Visual Dictionary does tells a bit more - though it tells us nothing in particular about the link between Rey, her parents, Ochi, and Palpatine, and it also leaves one other mystery unanswered. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***
We likely see more planets in Revenge of the Sith than in another movie in the Skywalker Saga, thanks to the montage of Jedi deaths shown during the execution (pun intended) of Order 66. But The Rise of Skywalker gives Revenge of the Sith a run for its money, taking us to Ajan Kloss, Mustafar, Exegol, Kijimi, Pasaana, the Sinta Glacier Colony, and Kef Bir - and that's not even including the places we saw when Poe Dameron took the Falcon lightspeed-skipping. On today's episode of the show, thanks to The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary (and thanks to DK Publishing sending me a copy to review!), we're going to learn a lot more about those worlds together. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***
The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary (thanks DK Publishing for sending me a copy to review) includes a sidebar called "Timeline" in a variety of places throughout the book, and also a very large one at the front of the book which lays out all the events in the Skywalker Saga timeline. What's new this time around - aside from all the new details - is that the time isn't referred to as BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin) and ABY (After the Battle of Yavin) in the book. Instead, it's referred to as BSI/ASI, or Before/After the Starkiller Incident from The Force Awakens. On today's episode of the show, I'll gather the important, unique, and remarkable timeline moments into one episode, and covert them into the old school BBY/ABY for ease of reference. I'll probably flag their relationships to Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens as well. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Thanks to DK Publishing for sending me a copy of The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary to review and share with you! In fact, as with The Galactic Guide we discussed previously, I've also got an extra copy of this book to give away, which I'll be doing next month. In the meantime, today's episode focuses on a review of the book, as well as some of the details author Pablo Hidalgo has taken with inspiration from the story of The Rise of Skywalker and blended in to the backgrounds of the stories for both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi - further enriching the experience of those movies as well. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***
DK Publishing was kind enough to send me a review copy of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Galactic Guide when it was released. On today's episode, I'm sharing as many fast facts as possible that I learned about the backstory of The Rise of Skywalker from this book, as well as some fun facts about the book itself - including places where it shares information that ties into other Star Wars media, including animation, novels, and comics. Today's episode focuses on what we learn about the good guys and their circumstances, and we'll be talking about the bad guys soon enough, as well as an upcoming giveaway! It's a full-color, 96-page book that's almost like a mini Visual Dictionary, for younger readers. DK refers to it as "illustrated with action-packed images from the movie, accompanied by fun, easy-to-read text." And that's exactly right. Matt Jones does great, energetic, and breezy work with the writing Also, in place of cross-sections, they have fun features like little quizzes. Turns out I'm most like General Leia Organa as far as heroes go, and my ideal vacation spot would be Kef Bir! Time to pack my bags... Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Some of our favorite books to read are the post-movie Visual Dictionaries. Pablo Hidalgo’s latest contribution does not disappoint and sheds a lot of light on a movie we are still coming to grips with. We discuss some of the important elements that help us parse out The Rise of Skywalker, as well as plucking out our favorite parts highlighting what we loved about the movie. We manage to keep it pretty brief considering the large amount in the book by sharing three items each and then some final thoughts. Enjoy!
This week's show is a brief look at some of the most compelling portions of the recently released Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary. It opens with a few minutes on the history and purpose of Star Wars visual dictionaries before focusing on the book's info on Exegol, the Sith Eternal, Lando and Jannah, Ochi of Bestoon, and more. This episode contains: This week both Devon Craft and Benjamin Daniel Lawless join Steven for a wicked talk about science fiction. And Star Wars. So much Star Wars. Holiday Talk: No Science talk this week. Instead we talk about sicknesses and holidays. Devon got a 7-string Ibanez guitar for xmas. Ben received a book called Different Dances by Shel Silverstein, it is VERY adult. We segue into A Boy Named Sue and it's lesser known sequel. Steven stumbles through his holidays (and later remembers he got Rock Band 4). Science Fiction: Steven finished the fifth Red Rising book, Dark Age. He talks a bit about it and the series as a whole. Ben just finished reading Moby's first memoir "Porcelain," and is currently watching The Expanse Season 4. Devon watched the first half of Season 2 of Lost In Space and we discuss. The Rise of Skywalker: SPOILER REVIEW! This may be the most comprehensive review as one of us hated it, one of us loved it and one of us thought it was just okay. We dive into the plot, what works and what doesn't. We do some Sith lore studies, talk about the Palpatine problem, and debate one of the deaths. We talk about what made Ben cry, what happened (or didn't happen) to Chewbacca, and the C-3P0 thing. Should Rey have turned to the dark side? We also talk about how the Sequel Trilogy wasn't written together, Carrie Fisher and how things could have been different. There were cool things in the Visual Dictionary that should have been in the movie. What was Finn going to tell Rey? (Steven knows) And finally, we talk about what we want from future Star Wars movies.
In this episode I talk about hopes for my future podcasts and reading plus explain things from the doctor who show with the 11th doctor Matt smith .

This week, we are diving headlong into an infinite pool of Star Wars gold by discussing Pablo Hidalgo’s new and updated The Complete Visual Dictionary. Spanning all three major eras of the galaxy far, far away, we tried something different and picked out some stuff that was meaningful or just plain cool to talk about. Josh continues talking about droid sentience, Blaine returns to his childhood awe on Boonta Eve, plus they both are intrigued by the idea of exploring criminal organizations in the sequel era. All that plus Blaine forgetting how to end the show and Josh feeling sorry for General Grievous on this week’s H1R!

We know for a fact that Pablo Hidalgo has hidden clues about future movies in plain sight before - just look at the mention of Crait in the Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide for proof. What might he be hiding in The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary about Solo: A Star Wars Story and Episode IX? Well, maybe Episode IX is a stretch because we don't know how much, if anything, of the work Colin Trevorrow did is being used by J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio. (Probably not much, if anything.) But Solo: A Star Wars Story is much more of a known quantity to the Story Group... Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join Ryan and John as we dive into The Art of The Last Jedi and The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary books on this latest episode of The Blockade Runner. We both love reading the Art Of and Visual Dictionary releases that accompany each new Star Wars movie so much, so we're excited to dedicate an entire episode to them. The Art Of discussion leans pretty far into analysis and gleaning what we can about The Last Jedi's production process from the book while the Visual Dictionary portion of the show is more focused on fun little details and lore. Authors Phil Szostak and Pablo Hidalgo have written two incredible Last Jedi resources that we think are essential to any Star Wars fan's own library of sacred texts, so whether you join us for this discussion or not, be sure to pick up and dig in to copies of both. This week, we’re continuing our conversation surrounding The Last Jedi with a review of The Visual Dictionary, written by Pablo Hidalgo. Always a deep vein of fandom and filled with sparkling, visual jewels, The Visual Dictionary gives us a look at characters, locations, and ships from The Last Jedi. Instead of looking at what might be most appealing visually or what we really love, we're focusing on how The Visual Dictionary contributes to the narrative of TLJ and the myth and lore of the metanarrative of the Star Wars galaxy. Of course, we get an opportunity to mention Porgs.
Let's talk about a visual medium in an audio format! We talk more about the controversial film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We read tons of email feedback and discuss at the length the companion books, The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo and the Art Book. There's lots of little nuggets in these books that give us insight into the characters and the creators who worked with them. Both books are great and you should buy them. #nerdsquadron #muster #starwars #thelastjedi Email Feedback! letters@starwarsnerdsunite.com Follow Us On Twitter @StarWarsNU@timvanautreve@safetyguy14 @superjen82 Follow Us on the Internets (Rate the podcast, #nerdsquadron!):StarWarsNerdsUnite.comApple PodcastsStitcher Listen to Other AwesomeBenViewPodcasts: BenViewNetwork.com is where you can discover the wonder of BenView! We’re back to talk about The Last Jedi once again. If you missed our very rambly, scattered first reactions to the film, you can go listen to our previous episode. Now that we’ve seen the film more than once and had a little more time to process things, we’re ready to take a deeper dive into the film. On this episode--and certainly not the last on this movie--we are focusing on character story arcs, focusing on the main narratives of TLJ. We look at their thematic tie-ins, in-universe tie-ins to what the Lucasfilm Story Group has been doing, and what we liked and maybe didn't like. Lastly, we start the episode with a little talk about the Visual Dictionary, which is a treasure trove for fans of the film.
We're mere days away from the release of Episode VIII and the full-fledged return of Luke Skywalker. Compared to The Force Awakens it's shocking how little we know going in... or at least it was. After months of rampant speculation, Bothan spies have provided a juicy dossier filled to the brim with insights on the film: The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary. But fear not of spoilers friend! They're locked safely behind the blast doors. In this episode we talk the latest news on Solo and Star Wars video games, but most importantly we serve up a primer for The Last Jedi. We zero in on some spoiler-free media tie-ins that enrich the depth of the world: background character back stories, weird alien anatomy, and thematic storylines threaded across mediums. But then, yes, beyond the blast doors we've cobbled together an iron-clad outline of the film using all the clues scattered through the Visual Dictionary. We also confront a substantial and controversial outline of the film. Is it the real deal or LIES! DECEPTIONS!... well... we'll find out.
