On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are back to fighting the freaking Empire… erm, I mean the First Order. We watched the 2015 film from J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… evil space dictatorships just won't stay put down. Just when you think the magic space wizards have established peace, someone comes along with an enormous, planet-destroying laser weapon. It's enough to make you want to pick up your fearsome laser sword and start hacking down some bastards. Is it too much to ask for just an eternity of peace and prosperity amongst all the connected planets? But oh no, there's always a whiny man-boy who just has to ruin it for everybody instead of going to see a therapist about his daddy issues. This is why we can't have nice things! Klip: Walt Disney, YouTube

It's the cool thing to hate on the Star Wars Sequels. What started out as legit criticisms of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, feels more and more like group think. We experienced this all weekend at Alabama Comic Con. Including a bizarre interaction with a server at Buffalo Wild Wings who basically approached us by saying, "I love Star Wars. I hate the Sequels." Join us as we have a some fun discussing the similarities to current Star Wars fandom's treatment of the Sequels, with the way fans handled The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith over the past 20 years. I think I need to lie down. Putting this list together was not easy, and I'm sure my order will not be to everyone's liking. But what I'm doing here today is ranking not just all the Star Wars movies—but also the live-action TV shows. There are 16 entries on this list, and I think I come at it from a good perspective. Have I done it justice? Am I full of crap? Which is first? What was worst? There's only one way to find out! Show Notes: Ranking Star Wars Support the Show: Patreon.com/80s

Did you hear? The U.S. presidential election next week is the most important election of our lifetime. Maybe that's true. But it's been said of every election since Reagan and beyond. Why does politics feel this way? Are the stakes supposed to always feel existential, or like life and death? Beltway Banthas explores this through the Star Wars lens with special guest DAVID FRENCH (The Dispatch) author of a new book, Divided We Fall: America's Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation. David lays out the looming threat of secession movements to our union, and we reflect on Star Wars' lessons regarding civil discord and rebellion. The presidency has become a Death Star level threat, so David French and Stephen Kent diagnose why and what we can do about it. Star Wars is all about balance, and the constant interplay of light and dark. In this episode, we pose a theory, that it's federalism that could balance our politics. After all, it has been both an agent of darkness and one of great light.

Regardless of how they may feel about the Sequel Trilogy, most Star Wars fans agree that Kylo Ren was the best character in the 3 films. He’s at the same time, overly confident and terribly fragile. Kylo Ren is a great example of the truth that the villain is the hero of his own story. But first, there’s exciting news about the Kenobi and Cassian series, along with more rumors about not one, but TWO Star Wars Rebels follow up series! Have you gone back to watch the 6 films of the Star Wars Saga after seeing The Force Awakens? What did you think? What did you feel? With all the new movies, comics, novels and TV shows that fill in gaps or show a different POV, it can change the way we look at the films. Richard and Sarah explore those changes with special guests Bryan Young (Full of Sith, Starwars.com) and Chris Salton (Brews and Blasters, The Collector's Hutt). You'll never watch Han and Leia's love scene the same way again! (30:37) Next up, Impressions: The Music of Star Wars Rebels, where we analyze Kevin Kiner's score. Line organizer Craig Haasis joins us to give us all the wrap-up details. Ultimate Star Wars author Adam Bray was eager to talk The Force Awakens and his storytelling thoughts. We happily obliged and what follows is a very enlightening discussion about different aspects of character, story and cinema we all saw in The Force Awakens. We take all of our Skywalkers with us to the STAR WARS: The FORCE AWAKENS World Premiere, Red Carpet & After-Party in Hollywood, CA!! It was an absolute once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we share EVERYTHING with you. We talked with J.J. Abrams right after seeing this next chapter in the Star Wars saga!!! We also bring you clips from the line, like the moment we found out we would actually see THE FORCE AWAKENS at the world premiere on 12/14! (19:00) (SPOILER-FREE) During our 13-hour wait, we talked to fans with amazing personal stories such as the cosplayers who co-starred in the Omaze video where Mark Hamill dressed as a First Order Stormtrooper and walked Hollywood Blvd. looking for charity donors! Thanks to LiningUp.net, we were also able to see THE FORCE AWAKENS on 12/17 at the world-famous TCL Chinese Theater IMAX Lazer 3D (yes, it's a mouthful!). Afterwards we were treated to another after-party thrown by the theater. We engaged in so many hard-hitting discussions that we knew this would make the best round-table recap with several Skywalkers. (1:08:20) (WARNING: This section contains SPOILERS) You may have seen clips on the national news of the very first wedding held that day in the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX forecourt with all the feet and hand-prints of celebrities (including R2-D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader, George Lucas and Harrison Ford). We speak with the Groom, Andrew Porters, and the Officiant, Obi-Shawn Crosby and get their take on the event. We've packed SO MUCH into this episode! If you'd like to see pictures and a great Blog Post I've written of the World Premiere, head to AdventuresByDaddy.com. Please consider donating to the Starlight Children's Foundation. FULL UNCUT AUDIO from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Global Press Conference which took place in Los Angeles on December 6th, 2015. Every big name involved in the movie, except Mark Hamill (huh...), was in attendance. Listen in for some GREAT interviews with our first 45-minute panel consisting of J.J. Abrams, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyongo and Lawrence Kasdan. The second panel started 10 minutes later and consisted of (fangirlflail!) Harrison Ford, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie and Kathleen Kennedy. Mindy Kaling was a great moderator and asked, thankfully, different questions than we've been hearing all week. We were seated in the front row, got GREAT pics and audio, and could hardly contain our excitement. Tricia Barr was sitting right next to Sarah and Richard, so you may be able to hear all of our reactions and fangirlflails from time to time. BIG THANKS to Adventures By Daddy and Jedi News UK for allowing us to be their eyes and ears at this amazing event! Season Of The Force opens at Disneyland!! We were there on opening day, November 16th, 2015, with lots of friends and Skywalkers, so of course we had an impromptu roundtable discussion with Teresa Delgado (Fangirls Going Rogue), Dave Skale (Ghost Host), Anthony Fox (MousePire podcast), Georgia Peach and more! (23:36) Last weekend was also the Avengers Half Marathon and Inaugural Infinity Gauntlet Challenge at Disneyland, which we ran. So moments after we received our Infinity Gauntlet medals, we recap the race. Seen Unseen Disneyland author, Russell Flores, chimes in with things he may or may not have seen on the course. (1:39:36) We also have a new segment called, 'Inspirations: The Music of Star Wars Rebels' where we explore the music of Star Wars Rebels. There are so many associations in each episode's soundtrack that may go unnoticed so we are here to break it down for you. At 5.30pm on 16th April RADIO 1138 invaded the Star Wars Celebration podcast stage and brought a gaggle of galactic guests to the party. Tim Stanton from the He Said, She Said podcast, the godfather of Star Wars Celebration Steve Sansweet, Dak Ralter AKA Jedi News contributor John Morton as well as a rowdy live crowd, members of Team Jedi News, thoughts on THAT teaser trailer and much, much more.
This week they guys are back!... Kind of. PacingPete is out to tend for a ill child so Matt and Casey try to keep the show from falling apart as best they can. Henry stops by to tell the boys why they're wrong about the new Star Wars trailer. They give you the new movies and Blu Rays out this week as well as recommendations for movies out in theaters now. Casey fumbles through his entertainment whatever. They recap the uber scary Constantine episode from this week. Then hidden-crossbow-littered worlds collide as they discuss the Flash / Arrow crossover episodes of the week as well as speculate away about next the calamity bound to happen next week. Silly as always, you won't want to miss this unique episode of Scene N' Nerd!
