Welcome to Smallville! Where nothing is quite as it seems. Preparations for Harvest Fest are in full swing and everyone is getting in the spirit. Everyone except Johnathan who gets dumped by his girlfriend before the festivities get started. On the upside, Sarah asks Jordan to go with her to the festival. When Sharon and Derek Powell turn up unexpectedly, Chrissy and Lois are definitely suspicious. And for good reason. As it turns out, Derek has been resurrected but it’s not taking. He can no longer control himself and burns down the building where the Harvest Fest donations are taken in. Meanwhile, Kyle comes home drunk after a fellow firefighter is injured in the line of duty. Lana storms off to the festival while Sarah stays home to make her father something to eat. After taking care of her father, she heads to the festival to meet Jordan. While they are having a good time, John is off getting drunk with his friends and embarrasses Jordan. Sarah storms off and Jordan leads John off to get some water. In the end, Clark and Lois catch John drunk and send both the boys home. When they come home, Clark confesses he felt the same way as John when he was younger. He couldn’t wait to leave Smallville. Only when he did, he never returned until his mom was out of time. Meanwhile, Luthor tracks down Lois Lane and we get the jaw-dropping reveal that he was married to Lois on his planet.
In Part 1 of today’s episode, host Cheryl Janis speaks with Sharon Woodworth, FAIA ACHA EDAC LEED, Studio Leader National Healthcare Practice at HED, about Sharon’s vast and prolific career in healthcare. Sharon is both a practicing healthcare architect shaping her practice at HED into a national firm, and an associate professor at UCSF teaching healthcare architecture to physicians and nurses who want to be a CEO in healthcare. Sharon is also a Regent for the American College of Healthcare Architects Board, and her background that led to this has evolved out of her experience as a patient throughout her childhood, and later her career as a pediatric and neonatal nurse. On today’s episode, you will hear Sharon’s personal and professional life stories that have led her to her current work in healthcare, and what the current face of healthcare architecture looks like from her vantage point. Learn more about Sharon Woodworth and HED by visiting https://www.hed.design/ In Part 1 of Cheryl’s conversation with Sharon Woodworth they discuss: Sharon has said, “I was born in a hospital and I grew up in a hospital.” What does this mean exactly and how did this experience inform Sharon’s many careers in healthcare? As a pediatric neonatal nurse for many years, Sharon has said she was gifted with the experience of “seeing behind the curtain.” What does this mean? Why did Sharon leave her nursing career and how did she find architecture? When Sharon studied art at the University of Texas, Austin, her art teacher who was also a Yale architecture professor (and the same person who taught Maya Lin the concept of The Scars Upon the Earth) said something to Sharon that would alter the direction of her career. How did Sharon end up in healthcare architecture? When did Sharon realize that making a little change from an architect's perspective can impact thousands of lives? Sharon has worked for various prominent healthcare architecture firms before going solo and then joining up with HED. What lessons has she learned from this time in her life? Sharon is an associate professor at UCSF teaching healthcare architecture to physicians and nurses who want to be a CEO in healthcare. What is this course and how did Sharon end up teaching it? I had the pleasure of speaking to Sharon Koifman, founder of Distant Job about obtaining a retaining a remote job. Before I go into an in depth discussion about obtaining a remote job I would like to talk about Sharon. Sharon’s company is a remote recruiting company for technology firms in North America. Sharon has written the best seller called "Survive Remote Work". If you are currently working at a job there are many companies that are starting to offer remote work due to the corona virus. If your company does offer this benefit then you should focus on becoming more valuable to your firm. The way to do this is by developing a specialized skill set. Take the time to self-educate or study to become better at a skill set. If your company doesn’t offer the ability to work remotely you should focus on becoming specialized in a particular skill set. If your company doesn’t offer the ability to be ability to work remotely then you should look at applying to another company. The types of positions that offer remote work are tech, marketing and admin positions. Only a few accounting positions are being added remotely because of the slow integration of technology in this industry. In the accounting industry a lot of the work that requires an accountant to be on site can be resolved by simply having someone scan and upload documents to the cloud. Now that the types of industries/jobs that are available remotely let’s discuss other aspects of remote work. If you are applying to a local company to work remotely you should be able to command a comparable salary to an in the office position. When applying or working for a remote job dress appropriately. Every day cannot be casual Friday! Invest some of your own money or the money provided by a company as a stipend into getting good technology and equipment. A great example of this is buying a walking treadmill. This could be expensive but if you’re going to be working remotely for a long period of time investing in your home office could pay dividends. Another thing that you could invest in is VR Goggles like the Oculus Quest 2. You can create a great workout with this technology investment. When Sharon said to set up your home office he said a great quote that I will include below. “Try to get the experience you have physical, the connection between one person as if they set in front of you on zoom.” When preparing for a remote interview there are several things that you should to prepare yourself. Make sure that you dress as nicely as you would for a regular job interview. Sharon has said that a lot of candidates will dress in a casual fashion just because the interview is remote. Another important point is to be punctual. Show up 10 to 15 minutes early for your interview. When you are preparing for a remote interview check your internet connection and technology beforehand. Have a practice “interview” wit one of your friends and make sure that you sound and look great. Also check for dead zones in where ever you are going to do the interview. You don’t want to go to your interview and drop off the “call” for five minutes due to poor connectivity. There are two questions that you are going to have to answer if you are going to work remotely. The first question from any employer is why should I let you work remotely? I would stress identifying that you will be more productive and provide concrete examples of out performance versus other potential employees. The second question you will be why should I hire you? You should emphasize the skills and expertise that you have to differentiate yourself from the other applicants. The one thing that I discussed with Sharon that was particularly impactful to me was to focus on your social experience while working remotely. You can do this by focusing on booking a social experience with your coworkers/friends. One of the things that you could do before the corona virus was to grab a cup of coffee with a friend. Now that the corona virus is here you can go for a walk with your coworkers/friends. This is one of the most important things that you should focus on if you’re working remotely. If you want to learn more about obtaining a remote job you can find out more at Sharon’s website.

Today on the Fire In The Belly Podcast, we meet the Founder of Serenity Sparks Joy and the only KonMari consultant in Northern Island, Sharon McNulty. It was a couple years ago when Marie Kondo changed the way we tidy up in our own homes or even in our offices. This Japanese way of decluttering is pretty straightforward—keep things you love and throw away (or give away) things that don’t spark joy. Let’s learn more today about this and how Sharon can change different lives through this method. Other topics discussed too were: organisation vs tidying up, sharing your expertise to other people, the importance of systems and strategies, KonMari’s effect on one’s life, and many more. KEY TAKEAWAYS The first step is always the hardest. When Sharon knocks on your door, expect changes—changes in your wardrobe, changes in your kitchen counter, and believe it or not, changes in your life. Her clients are still in awe of how the KonMari way of decluttering helped them. It might be daunting for some to throw away stuff. Sharon is here to explain everything and show them that there is a more satisfying way of life when we open our minds to the Japanese art of decluttering. Is organisation and tidying the same thing? No, some of us think it’s good to keep a LOT of stuff because they’re kept or ‘organised’ in designated areas. We need to tidy things up! Let’s only keep the things we really need. KonMari is also a way of life. Think about the similarities with some existing paradigms: The abundance mindset. There is enough in this world for you and the other people. Let us only take in the energy (and also the stuff) we need. The law of attraction. Kondo teaches about choosing what sparks joy. In the law of attraction, we are called to manifest only the desired energy (i.e. positive high vibrations) we give and receive. Life is too beautiful to be wasted on things that don’t matter. Surround yourself with positivity. Be cautious and don’t gravitate towards external factors that bring toxicity. BEST MOMENTS “Use the KonMari method; you’d only ever have to tidy up once.” “In order to let go of the items, you got to let go of the emotions.” “You can’t really be fulfilled with things.” “My pride is my business… believing that I can do something and going ahead and actually doing it.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Book a FREE 30-minute consultation with Serenity Sparks Joy: https://www.serenitysparksjoy.co.uk/our-services Learn more about the KonMari Method and Marie Kondo here: https://konmari.com/ Order the book ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing’: https://shop.konmari.com/collections/books/products/the-life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up-1 Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061)! Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:14 Sharon is part of a community of women who do life together. They study the Bible together, pray for each other, and support each other in everything they go through in life. There is no judgment or looking down on someone for not knowing the “correct” answer to a question. When Sharon’s brother was in hospice care and she was his primary caregiver, this group supported and loved her in every way possible. And Sharon has reciprocated that love by caring for other women in the group as they have experienced major challenges. All of us have times in our lives when we need extra measures of support and love. When things are difficult or when we mess up and feel as if no one can love us, we need to be cared for and loved. And there are times when we need to care for others, especially when they mess up or are going through difficult times. Paul describes the new life that followers of Christ live into because of Christ’s sacrifice. Followers of Christ put off their old selfish ways and put on all the new virtues they can have because of Christ. And over all of those things we are called to put on love, which pulls everything else together. Unconditional love is essential and integral to community. Father, help us show your love for others and experience others’ love in our communities. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.
This week, meet Sharon Rowe. Sharon is the Founder & CEO of Eco-Bags Products, which she started back in 1989. She’s also an award winning pioneer of the reusable bag movement and has been featured in media outlets like Time Magazine, Glamour, and the Oprah Show. I first met Sharon when she gave a talk at Woodstock BYOB. That’s when I learned about her passion for the zero/less waste movements. Of course, you know me that merely whetted my curiosity. There was so much more I wanted to ask this thought-provoking, social entrepreneur. Not only is Sharon passionate about reducing waste, she is also passionate about entrepreneurship. She recently condensed all of her business knowledge into a book called The Magic of Tiny Business. I ripped through the book in one afternoon and loved it. I'm not the only person who loved the book. Seth Godin had some awesome things to say about it, too. (Yes, that Seth Godin.) When Sharon's not running her company, she is speaking to rid the world of single use plastic bags and promote sustainable, tiny business. She’s also active in The Social Venture Network, BCorporation, The Women's Presidents Organization, and the Governing Board of Westchester Collaborative Theater. Whew. She is one busy lady who holds it all together with poise and grace. In this episode, Sharon talks about the power of making simple a switch over time, the death of single use plastic bags (YESSS!), and getting comfortable with discomfort. We also talk about turning tiny ideas into tiny businesses, how regrouping can help you move forward, and the importance of being intentional and incremental in life and in business. One more thing: Before you dive into the interview, I want to remind you to subscribe to Le vital corps Salon wherever you listen to podcasts. Please, please, please (yes, that’s a triple please), share this podcast with at least one human who you think might dig this episode. On Ask Win today (Tuesday, February 12, 2019), Best-Selling Author, Win C welcomes Sharon Lopez. Sharon have been writing most of her life. When Sharon started, Sharon was writing short stories and plays. In fifth grade, some classmates and Sharon put on a play that she wrote, and this further pushed her to pursue writing. When Sharon was in high school, Sharon took a creative writing course and this is when she started writing poetry. In 1993-94 Sharon wrote her first book. In 2014, Sharon published The World Inside Stephanie's Head and later that same year Sharon published Life Is Funny That Way which is the book that she wrote in 93-94. Since then, Sharon have published a few books, and Sharon plan to continue writing as long as she have stories to tell. Sharon is inspired by many things. Mr. Schwinden was the first person that encouraged Sharon’s creative side. It was in his class that Sharon performed one of the plays that she wrote. After turning in a few assignments, Sharon’s creative writing teacher, Mr. Hutchings told Sharon that she had talent as a writer. Sharon shared some of her other work with him, and he helped Sharon grow as a writer. In 2013 Sharon was at a dark point in her life. It was then that Sharon was introduced to the work of Jamie Campbell Bower. The things he said in interviews and in his tweets came at a time when Sharon desperately needed to hear that Sharon was good enough, to be true to herself, be proud of who Sharon is, and to like what she like. It was at this time that Sharon learned about Cassandra Clare and her amazing Shadow Hunter world and decided to follow her dream to become a published author. Since dropping our first podcast back in September we've received tons of messages from different listeners across the world who want to share their stories about living with MS. After airing episode 29 "Living Proof", we got a call from a very enthusiastic listener who's been her own living proof since being diagnosed in 1979. When Sharon first got her diagnosis there wasn't a lot of research surrounding MS so Sharon took it upon herself to get as informed about the disease as she possibly could. Refusing to let the MS rule her, Sharon took matters into her own hands. After finding different articles about the effects of certain foods on MS symptoms, Sharon changed her diet, removed certain household items from her home and incorporated fitness into her daily routine.Sharon has been living her truth for nearly 40 decades all while dancing to her own beat. You can hear her inspiring story and all about her journey with health and fitness by clicking the link below.
This conversation is with Sharon Salzberg on Being Present, Letting Go, and Having FaithIf you know her name, you know where this conversation will go: Mindfulness.Sharon has played a crucial role in bringing mindfulness practices to the West and into mainstream culture. She first began teaching mindfulness in 1974.(Note: be careful who teaches you about mindfulness — it’s a very, very “in” thing to talk about, and just like most skills in any field, the nuances that come with a deep commitment to understanding and living in alignment are imperative for anyone you’re going to trust in the process of progression.)In 1971, in Bodh Gaya, India, Sharon attended her first meditation course. She spent the next three-and-a-half years engaged in intensive practice and study with highly respected teachers from India, Burma and Tibet. In 1976, she established, together with Joseph Goldstein and Jack Kornfield, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts. In this conversation you’ll hear depth. You’ll hear the sensitivities that come with a life commitment to the nuances. We explore how Sharon discovered mindfulness and how it can serve as a toolbox for managing suffering. When Sharon first encountered mindfulness, she was fascinated that there were actual mental tools available to anyone who wants to practice them.Sharon’s definition of faith is not about dogma or adherence to dogma, but getting off the sidelines and moving right to the center of possibility, offering your heart to something even though you don’t know how it’s going to work out.And that’s precisely what she did once she had her first taste of meditation. For Sharon one of the most important things she learned is the ability to “let go.”To come back to your intention, to come back to the now, without being disheartened, without blaming or hating yourself, for what occurred in the past. It’s the eloquent returning to now that is the hallmark of world-class doers and thinkers. This is a skill. And mindfulness is one of the many skills that can accelerate the ability to stitch together moments of full engagement. We also explore how practicing compassion doesn’t mean you can’t still compete and can still have a mindset that allows you to progress and achieve.Sharon has great insight – for both the seasoned and those just getting into mindfulness/meditation world. We are living in a highly digital world that is challenging our ancient brain in ways that we are not fully prepared. I hope this conversation stimulates you to step back and remember what matters most: time — and how we live “on-time” with our self, with others, with nature. It’s through relationships that we become — and that depth only happens in the present moment. This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens!Receive a free 20-count travel pack of Athletic Greens (valued at $99) with any purchase!Claim here: athleticgreens.com/findingmastery
On this episode of House Flip Masters Holly is joined by guest Sharon Houseworth. Sharon has been a real estate investor for just a couple of years which is exciting because she is newer and also successful at what she does. Before Sharon jumped into real estate she was in a couple industries. She worked with her mother who worked as a life and health agent - Sharon admits that this really wasn’t her thing. After that she went into the administrative field most recently a construction company which always had her interest. All of these jobs led her to property management and fixing and flipping. When Sharon when was doing property management she says that she was kind of just thrown into it. Her family had always had rentals and when her mom got older she helped her to manage those properties. In 2009, her uncle passed away and Sharon inherited the 34 units that he owned and became the property manager for those properties. While she isn’t a licensed property manager she was still able to manage her own properties legally. Holly asks Sharon how much time these properties took for her to manage each week - 30 hours is what Sharon was working when she was managing these properties. She found that she had a lot of work because the properties had a lot of deferred renovations that she had to take care of and get up to date and up to code to make sure that she was protected as well as her tenants. Sharon until recently was managing these properties on her own, calling maintenance when things needed to be fixed and collecting rent from the tenants. Sharon recently turned over her property management to a licensed property manager so that she could free up her time. Sharon says that all of her time as a property management has taught her a lot but decided that she needed to move forward and do something different. After the passing of her mother Sharon recalls hearing a commercial on the radio about learning going to a seminar to learn to fix and flip so she decided to do it. Sharon says that learning to fix and flip has been completely life changing for her. Holly asks Sharon to share with listeners how she found a deal in Fallbrook that coincidentally ended up being on the same street as a flip that Holly was working on. Holly asks Sharon to share her insight on this deal, as well as her need to adapt to certain elements of this specific deal. Sharon found this deal by getting involved in an investment club for women after completing a 60-day challenge that they offered. From that challenge came this deal, Sharon was called by a realtor about this deal - this property that she was tipped off on was that this property was going to go to auction in 3 weeks. Sharon says that one of the biggest thing that she’s learned is that people come before profit and she was so happy to do this deal because she was able to help the man this man by keeping a foreclosure off his record, his house out of auction, as well as giving him $40,000 in his pocket at the end of the day. Sharon called some investors who might be interested in investing as well as investing in this area which is a little off the beaten path. Sharon cashed out an annuity as well as had a hard money lender who was willing to take a chance on her with her first deal. Sharon decided that she wanted to do this deal with her own money so that if she made a mistake, she would rather do it with her own money. Holly reminds Sharon and listeners that there is no such things as win or lose when it comes to a deal it is win or learn because you don’t know what you don’t know and the only way you will learn is by making those mistakes and that each realtor has bumps in the road and for those bumps they are made smarter. With this property Sharon needed to extend on it twice and was only charged 1 point on the second extension. Holly reminds listeners that there is always a charge for an extension. Sharon owned this property for close to a year when she d

Photographer Leon Borensztein began Sharon (Kehrer Verlag, 2016), his most personal project, thirty years ago when his daughter was born: “Throughout my artistic career, I have been driven by the need to give voice to the unheard and unseen. This desire became a personal passion when my daughter Sharon was born. Just after her birth I felt there was something wrong, and slowly we learned that she was born with disabilities. I started photographing my daughter before she was born and I have never stopped.” When Sharon was in her early teens, Leon gained full custody of her when he split with her mother. His book is certainly a unique opportunity to increase awareness about disability, but is also a love letter to Sharon. It is both human and heartbreaking, beautiful and bold. Filled with poetic metaphor, Sharon has no text, which provides an intriguing and emotional experience. It is a book that demands and deserves multiple viewings. Leon Borenszstein earned his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1980. He was a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1987, and a grant from the California Council of the Humanities in 2003. His work has been exhibited internationally, e.g. at the Centre Nationale de la Photographie in Paris, and the Art Institute of Chicago, and is in important collections like the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. His first monograph, One is Adam One is Superman, was published in 2004; his second, American Portraits, in 2011. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
