Join Pete as he speaks to entrepreneur, founder and director Stephen Rudolf. Stephen talks to Pete all about his journey to the realisation that he had much to learn as well as teach eventually leading to the development of his programme: Feed Your Tigers. ABOUT THE GUEST Steven Rudolph Founder-Director, Multiple Natures International steven@multiplenatures.com www.feedyourtigers.com, www.multiplenatures.com In 1989, while pursuing a career in music in New York, Steven Rudolph took up a part-time teaching job to make ends meet. In his first class, he had an epiphany: that he had an innate capacity to teach. Though he had no formal training, it was as if he already knew how to do it. The realization led him on a 21-year quest to India, where he uncovered 5,000-year-old secrets to self-understanding and achieving one's potential. He later found that the same discoveries made by the ancients about human nature were consistent with what modern neuroscientists had to say about how the brain functions. Steven has crafted those principles into an easy-to-use, enjoyable program--Feed Your Tigers. Steven lives in Cambodia where he serves as CEO of Multiple Natures International and explores how ancient Eastern wisdom can help people (and their tigers) become more aligned. Jeff Cohen is an entrepreneur, author, business coach, writer and speaker. Jeff works with CEOs and small and midsize businesses that are interested in growing into the new culture we are seeing post-pandemic. He talks to Pete about leadership, vulnerability and how we can all shift our mindset to create working environments where everyone feels valued and want to work. KEY TAKEAWAYS Post-pandemic people are re-assessing their lives and deciding what they really want. This means businesses have to start adapting and changing to continue to recruit good candidates. Jeff's life has been a contrast between great success and big failure. He has had to overcome a lot of knockbacks in his life. When Jeff first ran his own business, he felt he had to be the most important person in the business. He now knows this was a huge mistake and ensures his clients don't make the same problem for themselves. Your children will model your behaviours, if you want them to spend time with you as teens and adults, invest your time with them when they are young. Jeff advocates allowing your employees to not be accountable but instead “Account-on-able”, eliminating the restrictive nature of being accountable and instead being empowered and passionate about the work they do. The number one thing is for people to have the confidence to say no. This confidence is filtered down to people from the leader. You need to aim to align your people with the things they do best, this allows them to feel both valuable and valued. As a leader, if you want to trust both ways, then you can't just boss people around, you have to be vulnerable and show that vulnerability to your people too. BEST MOMENTS “It's ok for me to actually accept the love” “It's a shift in the mindset, it's a shift in the way you operate” “We hire people and we don't know what their strengths are” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Stacy is the founder and CEO of journey fuel and a life transformationalist. She has been helping people transform their lives for over 20 years. She joins Pete to talk about how she is on a mission to share her knowledge with as many people as she can, how she developed her unique set of skills and why she has such a passion for personal development. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Stacy relates directly to fire in the soul and that we need fire in the soul to live our best life. Being able to feel like this life is about something you want to live and experience. It was a decade ago when Stacy was burning out, this is when she realised, she needed to change things in her life, she just needed to figure out how. There are often many more options available to us in life, to change things, it just requires open-mindedness and reflection. If you are struggling to make decisions or feeling overwhelmed, Stacy advises you to think about how you feel right now and how you want to feel instead. This allows you to start evaluating options to get closer to what you want. The more choices that we make in alignment with what matters to us, the more we attract what and who we want in our lives. People go through life with a lot of ‘shoulds'. If you can start to change your ‘should do' to wants instead it will help you have the motivation to change things. BEST MOMENTS “Life's a journey, enjoy the ride, but how do you enjoy the ride if you don't have any fuel in your heart, in your soul” “When you're in that level of overwhelm, the idea of anything different, it can be paralysing” “Life is a collection of feelings” “What resources do I have available to me that will help me learn something about myself? Sandy Weston is a keynote speaker, international podcaster, three times published author and entrepreneur. Sandy has owned and operated health and wellness companies for over 30 years, spent many years as mbc tens fitness expert and a successful media personality. Sandy joins Pete to discuss her philosophies on life, her personal achievements and how she discovered and learnt to live her best life every day. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sandy's fire in the belly, is when you tune into your higher power and inner voice. If you take the time to listen to yourself, what you will feel and hear is love, peace and joy. Sandy makes the time to do this every day so that she shows up as her best self in the world. Sandy stops herself becoming stuck in the difficult times in life by reminding herself throughout the day, what kind of life she wants to live and that she has control over her life. No one will take 5 minutes a day to do something they don't believe but if you can change your focus and meditation for just 1-3 minutes it's more likely to be successful. It's not enough to just love what you do, you have to know how to run a business too. If you don't you will not enjoy running it or find success easy. BEST MOMENTS “Out pure essence is love, peace and joy” “It doesn't have to be complicated, it's little things over time, that you do to to train your mind” “Anytime I could be in front of people and spread joy it was just incredible" ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Nicky is known as the modern-day Napoleon Hill, he has interviewed top thought leaders of the world including the creators of chicken soup for the soul, John Maxwell, Oprah Winfrey's coach and so many more. He is a millionaire maker, helping so many individuals turn their lives around. He joins Pete to talk about his journey into coaching, what he teaches and his own personal beliefs and values, particularly around personal freedoms. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly is your purpose, it's you why, why you do what you do. Nicky says his fire has never gone out, there has been times where it has burnt bright as well as dimmed because of tough times and adversity, but it is always there. Nicky believes that fewer than 10% of people get to live their true purpose and this is down to how we are conditioned by society, including governments. There was a time when people sought the difficult, to achieve But, now we are in a world of convenience. But if we want to live a better life, a great life, then we need to force ourselves out of our comfort zones. There's resistance in all of us and it rears its head whenever you have a big task ahead of yourself. You have to push past this. You have to fight resistance every day. Nicky is a 7-time author, he loves book writing and already has plans for his next three books. We live in a free market society, Ryan believes making money is a way to give you freedom, this is the reality of the world we live in. BEST MOMENTS “Free enterprise is the most important freedom after freedom of expression” “People are being told to be sheep and not think for themselves” “Seek the difficult, seek the uncomfortable, seek what scares you because that's going to make you better” “You can only win if you recognise that it (resistance) is there and you continue on, you don't let resistance win” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Paul went from working as a stockbroker for a major firm to being a full-time entrepreneur. He now specialises in helping other entrepreneurs fix their finances and teaches them to buy assets to create passive income. Paul talks to Pete about how he got to where he is today, his businesses and why everyone should be trying to learn as much as they can about money and finance. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Paul is the thing that drives you, that helps you strive for the things you want in life. When Paul found jujitsu, he found out how to master his life. He found a way to feel and channel his competitiveness whilst humbling himself at the same time. It also taught him problem solving skills as well as how to strive to do better. Because Paul was never taught anything about money or finances, he now feels obligated to teach the people he meets as much as he can, so they can benefit from the knowledge he now has. The pandemic hit Paul and his businesses hard but luckily as he was based in Texas, the restrictions were lifted fairly early on so they were able to recover. Money just amplifies who you are. Money doesn't make you a bad or a good person, it just amplifies who you already are! Have a long-term plan for your stocks and don't get emotionally attached. Post-Pandemic, Paul has diversified his investments and also focuses on his fundamentals, his basics. This way he feels more protected whilst making his money work for him. When doing more riskier investments, Paul always keeps it in his head that he should only invest what he is willing to lose. There is a lot of misinformation about finance and investments out there, this is something Paul often has to battle with when trying to teach his clients what is the best plan for their money. BEST MOMENTS “I'll never stop working, I'm wired that way” “When I got better at jujitsu I got better at life” “It's such an important thing to have a strong financial understanding of the world and money” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Jim is an author and polymathic intellectual, he has successfully trained and treated clients over a 40-year career, his areas of expertise include psychology, physiology, science engineering math, law, septemics and more! He joins Pete to talk all about one of the newest social sciences, Septemics and his process in writing the book on the subject as well as his own personal journey. https://septemics.com KEY TAKEAWAYS Septemics is a social science, focused around the hierarchies of human phenomena. By learning the levels and areas within the variety of scales, allows individuals and groups of people to understand, predict and manage human behaviour. Finding out someone's motivation and belief is incredibly powerful information and Jim believes you can do this in a matter of minutes if you have learnt how. In the septemics book, Jim has included a glossary for every single chapter including the introduction, to make it as accessible as possible to everyone and eliminate any ambiguity. Although a lot of the information was pre-existing, Jim spent 20 years writing the 87,000 word book, to ensure it would be able to be interpreted in the right way by the reader. It can be hard for people who are rational to understand people who are self-sabotaging. But once you can understand that you can recognise it for what it is and see it at face-value. The Septemics book allows you to see what levels/scales people are on and recognise what you would previously believe to be random behaviour. It is a well known fact int he mental health community that sociopaths and psychopaths don not improve in therapy, this is because they are at the bottom of the 'scale' and 'level'. They are too far down to be helped. BEST MOMENTS “Just finding out what level you, another person is by itself enlightening and beneficial” “When you find out someone's motivation, that's really powerful information” “The book is explicit in telling you how to study it, how to approach is, how to use it on yourself and on others” “A book is never really complete in the mind of an author” "People like that aren't really reaching out for help anyway" ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Claire is a digital strategy coach for solo-preneuers. She helps people market and sell their services online by connecting with their strengths and core values. She joins Pete today to talk about what she does for her clients, how she learnt everything she knows, her passions as well as her thoughts of the negativity online and its impact on digital strategy. KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the cornerstones if what Claire does, is guide her clients into using empathy to gain an understanding of their customers perspective. She helps them translate their expertise into a language their audience will understand. Claire likes to get into the heads of other people to see the world from their perspective and their point of view. The delivery of an idea is just that, what matters the most is getting the concept right in the first place. To ensure that the message you are giving and sending out to your clients is right. Concept and meaning has always been Claire's area of joy, right back to when she first started studying graphic design. You need to feel ownership of your business or brand, this is where Claire's guidance comes in. To help you learn what will be effective for you and your brand/business. It's not always necessary to be doing anything and everything. It can be much more effective to focus on fewer core activities, focusing on where your audience is. Bullies and unkind people have always existed but the internet has given many people an anonymous platform where they can do more damage and cause a lot of disruption. If you have an opinion about something as well as the confidence to be bold, this can be a way to gain more of a following on social media. There is no one else in the world like you apart from you. Spend time connecting with what you are trying to say and what is unique about you and use this in your social media strategy. BEST MOMENTS “Digital strategy is making the best use of your resources to achieve a specific goal” “You need to always be stepping into your clients' shoes” “Trolls are someone opposing the person and what they are standing up and saying” “It's about connecting with the person you're trying to reach that you know you can help, that needs to hear this and serving them” “The best person you can help is the person you were 3 or 4 years ago” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Briana is a coach, nutritionist and speaker. After years of struggling with her own self-esteem, Briana wanted to help other women with emotional and binge eating issues. She talks to Pete today about her own journey to healing, how she managed to overcome her own trauma and difficulties and how her life purpose is to help others. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Briana, is the thing that gets you up in the morning, the thing you feel compelled to do. Briana becomes the coach her clients need first, she then works with them to meet their goals and needs. For years, Briana struggled with her relationship with food and her body image. Like many women she had insecurities and was either battling with restrictive eating or binge eating. If you have created the habit to use food to solve our emotions, you can become confused with what feels like ‘cravings' but is actually disordered eating. You need to develop self-worth that isn't tied to food, how you eat or your body. You then need to learn how to deal with your emotions without food. It was after losing a lot of weight, something Briana believed would bring her peace and happiness, that she realised that weight had nothing to do with how she felt about herself. It was time to try something different. Socially women have been conditioned by diet culture, which makes their relationships with food frequently difficult and complicated. Trauma doesn't have to be ‘big'. Often smaller situations and trauma create these unhealthy eating habits, because we have learnt to deal with our emotions via food. Journaling is one of the tools Briana used to change her mindset and thinking around food. Personal development and self-improvement was always something Briana had been interested in, it was when she got her own coach that she really started to understand the power of working with someone else on your development. BEST MOMENTS “It's almost your duty to help them be who they need to be, it's a much bigger purpose than you” “Healing my relationship with food required healing my relationship with myself” “Women are incredibly good at being astonishingly hard on themselves” “I didn't have much of a career to draw upon, it was just my own experience” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Ryan went from being a broke and homeless to becoming an award winning entrepreneur, peak performance coach, public speaker and podcast host! He joins Pete in this episode to talk all about his journey from the bottom to the top, his personal philosophies, what he teaches others and more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the Belly to Ryan means being committed to something and having a real purpose. It's a feeling where you don't allow barriers to stop you, that you are focused on your goals and moving forward. Focusing on the impact you and your business matters. Money is great of course but for Ryan, the impact he has on others and the world and the legacy he is leaving behind matters most. Faith, family, wisdom and generosity and Ryan's main values. They are what are important to him and interestingly are mostly related to ‘service'. It's easy to get caught in the trap that more money or more status will make you happy. But this isn't the case, be happy wherever you are now and ensure you are fulfilled. One of the things Ryan teaches his coaching clients is the power of their own mindset. You can choose to be happy you just need to learn how to do it. There's a difference between goals and a vision. Both are important but goals are 12 months or less and are strategic, vision is generally 3+ months away and inspirational. A series of powerful decisions allowed Ryan to pick himself up after hitting his lowest. Two of the biggest decisions he attributes to getting him to where is now is hiring a coach and attending a mastermind with two of his mentors. BEST MOMENTS “I definitely believe I am where I am supposed to be right now” “Learning from the other people is like the ultimate shortcut” “Success without fulfilment is the ultimate failure” “You can choose to be happy wherever you are in life right now” “I'd never been around someone really successful, I was trying to do things on my own” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Patricia is a mother, grandmother and has been a hairdresser for over 40 years. She has always known there was something in her desperate to get out but couldn't place what it was. It was after two abusive marriages and focusing on personal development and self-discovery that Patricia realised her passion and purpose in life was to help others. She joins Pete in this episode to talk all about her life, including the difficulties she has faced and what led her to leading the life she always desired. KEY TAKEAWAYS Patricia has struggled with self-esteem and confidence her whole life it was this and bullying she suffered that caused her to have an eating disorder. When she met her husband, Patricia thought she had found love but it turned into an abusive marriage. After finding the strength to leave with 4 of her 5 children, Patricia went into a women's refuge. After leaving her husband, Patricia used drink to cope, something she had also done in her teenage years. Patricia got married for a second time, she had a sixth child but devastatingly this marriage was also abusive. The life Patricia was living, with failed marriages, abuse and alcohol dependence was something she desperately wanted to leave behind but she didn't know how. 4 ½ years ago she managed to stop drinking and her life has turned around. She joined AA and began working on herself. 2 years ago Patricia did a course in RTT, a type of hypnotherapy which started her fascination with the mind and how our brains work as human beings. Helping people, particularly women, from toxic life and situations into success, is what gives Patricia fire in her belly. Patricia bears no grudges or bad feelings towards past events, including her ex-husbands. She understands that life happens and she can't take back her past, she can only move forward. When people self-sabotage it's not intentional, it's often a coping mechanism where the individual doesn't feel good enough. You have to be your true authentic self in order to learn to love yourself. BEST MOMENTS “I just wanted someone to love me and to look after me” “I knew for years I didn't want this life but I didn't know how to get out of it” “I've always been on a journey of personal development” CONTACT METHOD Ryan's website: https://rslindner.com/ On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-lindner-96802266/ On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RyanLindnerCoaching/ Ryan's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ryanlindnercoaching/ Buy Ryan's book, “The Half Lived Life”, on Indiebound https://www.indiebound.org/book/9781646636433 ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Devin Durrant – retired NBA player, current entrepreneur, author, family man. Devin comes on the show to discuss his recently published book, The Values Delta, which is about how we can make our values count to make more of a positive benefit in the world. We talk about how his childhood and family shaped his focus and made him hone his value system early on, and how he has been able to leverage his “spiritual values” to make the world a better place for others. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did. KEY TAKEAWAYS + You can not only work on your values, but see them improve, and thus improve your life and sense of fulfillment, by a scientific, experiential approach. Often your achievements can be opportunities to thank other people for the ways they helped you realize your goal. Everything good in life comes from the help we receive from others. Hard work, team work, and discipline – things that Devin learned playing sports in his neighborhood growing up, are ways to improve your life everywhere. Cultivate relationships with people you like and whose values you share and watch your life blossom in a myriad of unexpected beautiful ways. BEST MOMENTS “I've been very fortunate to be a mentor to younger people, in different settings. The flip side of that is, I have had just some remarkable mentors in my life that have helped me at different stages of life, given me direction and, and inspired me through their examples.” “What do I need to prioritize so I might be able to do a little bit better as an individual, as a husband, a father, a business owner?” “The constant for me is ‘how can I improve?' How can I improve as an athlete, how can I improve as my parents' son?…that's been a key element for me. What I've learned over time and as an adult, is: we tend to become what we think about. So I'm a big believer in trying to focus on thoughts [that will take us] in positive directions.” “There's always a little bit more that you can offer. There's always some progress that needs to be made and there's always maybe something we need to repent, change and try to do a little bit better. And so that'll be my constant striving is yeah, I'm in a good place. But maybe to make my place better, I can help other people find that good place in their lives.” ABOUT THE GUEST [From the “Meet the Author” section on website] Devin Durrant is the owner of multiple real estate–centric companies. After succeeding as a consensus All-American at Brigham Young University and a two-time Academic All-American, he played for the Indiana Pacers. As an elite athlete, Devin learned how important values were for team and individual success. In real estate, Devin's work and philosophy centers around adding value to his employees and properties. An inspirational public speaker, Devin has spoken around the world for over 40 years. Devin is a father and a grandfather, a husband, and a Christian. He is based in Utah. First off, Bronson Hill is a successful, multi-family apartment investor, who left a $200K job in order to go into real estate, and now coaches other investors on how to reach that same level of success. But more than that, Bronson is a deeply spiritual person, whose faith informs everything he does. He knew early on that he was not willing to trade his time for his career, so he makes his money work for him. He has also traveled to over 30 countries, run obstacle courses, and, perhaps most importantly, become a present and engaged dad to his daughter, Ellie. He has very unique, vulnerable perspectives on how we can make our pain our purpose, find success and soul while following our path, and I know you will get a lot out of our conversation. Please join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS Have good people around you so that when you go through challenging times, they can remind you of the “purpose beyond the pain”. Sometimes when you go through big seasons of change, you “lose” friends, or add others, and that is natural. Pay attention to the signs the world is giving you and you will know whether or not you are traveling the right path. Consistently check in with your soul to make sure your goals and purpose align with your ethics so that you don't lose your soul/who you are to the world. BEST MOMENTS I look at life as being an opportunity to walk in relationship with God. And so I pray, I ask, ‘Hey, what do you want me to do?' I believe in this sense of divine purpose.” “Be sure you turn around and look at the progress that you have made. That will inspire you to take more steps and continue to be in motion, continue to take action.” [on affirmations] “I've watched as I've started saying those [affirmations], I've started to internalize, not only that the external things have changed – the net worth has changed, the growth, the job and all this stuff, that's great – but the most important thing is I really like who I am, I love what I bring to a room, I love what I bring to people.” “It sounds really morbid, but it's almost like…the level of success you want to have, or the level of achievement, or purpose, the ‘where do I want to go'...It's almost like the suffering has to equal that. I wish it weren't that way. But in a way, suffering has this way of [being like] a fire refining.” ABOUT THE GUEST Bronson has never wanted to trade his time for money. A family member suggested he become a multi-family apartment holder. After meeting with a syndicator (someone who raises money to buy apartments) and raising a little capital of his own, Bronson was able to make that initial investment. He has never lost sight of the goal to help others, and he wants to help others achieve their goals and experience true financial freedom. Besides the passion for his career, Bronson is a fitness enthusiast who has done a lot of international traveling, and regularly performs music around Pasadena, where he lives. The light of his life is his daughter, Ellie. I can't say for sure but I think Jon Weberg may be the youngest guest we've ever had on this show. He's already self-published a book, spoken to entrepreneurs at conferences across the U.S., and founded successful start-ups. Our conversation today is about focus, intention, making sure your actions match up to your intentions. You can be financially successful while being of service. It was my great pleasure speaking with Jon and, if you don't know him yet, my great pleasure to introduce him to you. KEY TAKEAWAYS + anything he creates, whether it be video, or written content, he always checks with himself first to see if it would help anyone. Finding yourself is key to being happy because you save energy by not having to pretend anything, by being completely authentic. It's not draining to chase dreams that you really want. Be somewhat of a scientist about your life: take notes on your goals and progress towards them, try to observe the effects of your decision-making in your everyday life. Being fulfilled in life is making progress. BEST MOMENTS “In my business, and in anything I have almost ever achieved that's important in my life, I have written it down at some point.” “I want to give and help and work with as many people as humanly possible because to me, there's nothing better in this world than making people smile, [making them] happy. “How can I think about this to make things better than they were, and move things forward?” “This ties directly back into the ethics of what is good, because if you're always valuing things that are good and valuable, you should most of the time do things that represent the valuable.” ABOUT THE GUEST Unbeknownst to him, Jon had started on his path to being a multimillionaire entrepreneur and author by the age of 10, when he began doing online marketing, following in his father's footsteps. Staying in a Duluth, Minnesota hotel when he was 14, he jotted down a few ideas for what would become Marketing Mastery Elite. By the age of 20 he had written his first book, and was traveling across the U.S. speaking to aspiring entrepreneurs on how they could increase their own profits and ROI. Claire Aughmuty is a force of nature. After a career as a nurse and a wife and mother, a broken ankle sustained during COVID helped turn her life around. It was during her convalescence, when she was forced to ask people for help to do things that she'd always taken for granted, that she started feeling reconnected to others – a part of a community. That experience helped her make the decision to start a second career as a divorce and break-up coach, to help others through an emotional and often confusing time that she went through. I just know you'll enjoy our conversations. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you want to change your life, why can't you? Life is too short to feel boxed in by decisions you've outgrown. When we trust ourselves to make a good decision, it doesn't matter what other people think. I can afford compassion for lots of people, but why not myself? You can change as a person if you let your defenses down. BEST MOMENTS “I had to leave my marriage to understand that I had no idea how to look after myself. No idea. So when I heard self care, I was like, ‘Well, I had a bath, that's fine.' But I didn't understand self care at all.” “I understood ‘selfishness' to be making decisions that were about me. And that [was] a negative thing. You're very selfish for whatever it happens to be. And when you think like that, and other people say something like that, it's almost like it's glued with superglue to the word guilt. Guilt is not good. It's not a good emotion.” “But nearly every day, a different friend called in to help me with stuff. I remember probably about two months into my broken ankle, suddenly thinking, ‘I feel connected to my world for the first time in a way that I never did before.' Because I couldn't do anything for myself; I couldn't be independent. I needed other people to help; I had to ask and I had to receive. It's very easy to give, but it's a very different ballgame when you're on the receiving end and you need to ask. But [once] I learned how to do that my defenses came down.” “I look at the decisions I've made. And I think the decisions I've made have changed my legacy completely. My children's lives – they will work life differently. As I learn and grow, I teach them and show them. Who knows where they'll go in their future, where their children will go in the future?” ABOUT THE GUEST Claire moved to Galway when she was eight and spent her childhood there, but also attended boarding school in Dublin. After attending nursing school, she was a nurse for a while, and then married, had a family, and has been living in the North Node for around 26 years. After a divorce, she reinvented herself as a coach to help others through their own break-ups on their journeys of re-discovery. Jake Schmidt is passionate about marketing and business strategy, and prides himself on having been on the ground level of many products that have changed our culture. We have a fascinating conversation about business, passion, and when it's time to go onto the next adventure. KEY TAKEAWAYS Items with a mesmerizing quality do much better in ads, so that they “hypnotize” the viewer. Learn how to let go of things that have seen their day and move on, to apply the lessons to the next challenge. Being curious about things will bring you great rewards in the future. It's okay to not have been the first person on the scene, because the first person conducted free research and development for you. BEST MOMENTS “I tried to just kind of flood the market with my videos and my concepts or my brand, physically. And by doing that, we were able to build the biggest brand. I think at our peak on Instagram, we had close to 150 or 200,000 followers.” “We're able to help so many people, which is just the coolest thing, seeing someone that's doing say $50-$60,000 a month, and they…have the right product, but they just don't know how to get to the next level. Taking them on this journey with us and setting up their proper email marketing strategy, SMS strategy, paid social strategy, and then letting them get to $500,000, $600,000, $700,000 a month in revenue, which we've done a few times.” “If you're not growing, you are dying. I think that is absolutely true. And there's been times in my life where I have felt like I'm not growing, and it's just a terrible feeling. Because I know that I'm gonna regret it. I know that life is short, and I want to be able to maximize and fulfill my potential.” “I'm looking actually at the ‘unit economics' of your brand to make sure that it has what it takes to be scalable, and has what it takes to be this next big thing and if they don't have that then it's like ‘hey, you have some things that you need to fix here first before we can actually pour the gasoline on the fire'.” ABOUT THE GUEST Jake has been an entrepreneur basically since the time he could speak. As a kid he loved playing video games and surfing the internet, which showed him early on the benefits of technology as a marketing tool. His greatest business accomplishment so far has been to figure out how to market the fidget spinner to a wider audience. He splits his time between NYC and LA. Lewis Herridge is an ultra-marathoner, an outdoor enthusiast, someone passionate about rewilding himself and helping others to do the same. We have a fun, inspiring conversation about how we, as a society, can get back to a more natural way of living. Lewis sees a lot of correlation between the current mental health crises the world over and the way we eat and live essentially sedentary lifestyles. Through finding and following his joy, he wants to support and help others find theirs through outdoor exploration and adventures. KEY TAKEAWAYS Chase your joy, even if it doesn't make sense to anyone else. Follow the little voice in your head {if you are feeling depressed and unhappy, that is a cue to change something about your circumstances} Our bodies can achieve a lot more than we ever dreamed, we just have to push ourselves a bit more than we are used to. We are living in an unnatural world (9-5, inside, sedentary lifestyles, etc). Through nutrition and lifestyle changes, and movement coaching, we can get back to a more “natural” way of living that will make us much happier people. The training for something gets to be more of a reward than the thing itself. If you're not enjoying the journey, you can change direction. BEST MOMENTS “I think my belief is that as soon as we started introducing agriculture…then we started attaching ourselves to that way of life, but we've always sort of got on fairly well and being quite connected to that [nomadic], natural sort of way of life. But things have accelerated with detaching ourselves even further in the last few decades.” “If you get the mind right, then the body follows on.” “That's what's needed on a big, global conscious level, you know, like: ‘stop, slow down, go into yourself, consider your own life.'' And for some it might materialize as a bit of depression, or anxiety, or whatever at first. But don't run away from that. Because that's the opportunity to go within, isn't it, to go inside yourself and work through that.” “[I want to] help people revive body and mind for themselves. That is my purpose – how I do that is through connecting with nature, through[helping others to] reconnect with their own wild natures, and basically tuning into who they are.” ABOUT THE GUEST Lewis had over 10 years as an outdoor adventure guide when his circumstances changed and he began working a “desk job” for a little while. He realized very quickly that the indoor, office environment wasn't for him – he began feeling really depressed, wasn't happy with his body, and felt isolated and disconnected. He began to “rewild” himself by making time in the outdoors part of his routine once again, and a former alter ego, “The Outdoor Bloke” was reborn. Lewis has since started fitness and motivational coaching again, and rejuvenates his spirit whenever he needs by spending time outside. He lives outside Manchester with his wife and young daughter. Carol has a precious way of looking at life. After a decades' long career helping businesses continue to innovate in the long-term, Carol has found an approach to her work that integrates her Mohawk First Nations heritage and “logical” business economics. She has been called a “positive contrarian” by peers and her students for how she tries to embed traditional, holistic teachings in modern-day theory. We have a wonderful conversation about how to exercise our own capabilities to find out what we are made of, how we can trade passion for more sustainable caring, and how to make the most out of every day by waking up with the aim of staying humble and to learn something new. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don't trust someone immediately if they call themselves an expert without testing it through your own life experience first. Someone self-identifying as an expert might mean they've studied a fragment of something for a number of hours but they also have a bit of an ego about what they've learned. Go into each day open and willing to learn. You can't think that what you know right now is it, you have to be prepared for cracking open your own worldview. Work hard at figuring out a way of improving your own capability to test out ideas in the world and in real life, so you can find out what works for you. We are all connected. We have individual roles to play within our families, within our local communities, and we are affecting change within those structures that slowly ripple outwards. BEST MOMENTS “Well, ego is a very useful instrument if my essence is in charge of it. So, ego in some traditions, and this is one that I question, is we have to kill ego. Well, that didn't quite make sense because ego for me has a couple of different directions:it can go toward arrogance and hubris, [the whole] “I'm the best thing since sliced bread”, or it can go toward courage, helping myself overcome that which I could be reactive to. Ego to me is an instrument of direction setting; it's an instrument that we use to manage the parts of ourselves that are not useful.” “I remember one morning when I woke up and remembered a message from my grandfather about ‘what do you need to be humble about today? What do you need to be humble about? ‘So I started using that to ask [myself daily] what my aim should be.” I am often asked about what I am passionate about and have fire about. I always say, those are the things that get people in trouble, because we end up on a roller coaster, and things are great, and then things are low. What I really pursue is caring. I made it in a way of growing people. And I find that if I pay more attention to that than passion or fire, that I'm [going to have a more] stable energy.” “I had a grandfather who was part Mohawk, which is an Indigenous tribe here in the U.S., part of the Iroquois nation. And he was the one that taught me that idea. He said the calmness, the quiet allows you to see more and manage yourself in uncertainty and changing times. The way you want to do it is not to be subjected to whatever is out there pulling you or scaring you. And I have to tell you, it took a very long time to grow that in me.” ABOUT THE GUEST Carol Sanford is a consistently recognized disruptor and contrarian working side by side with Fortune 500 and new economy executives in designing and leading systemic business change and design. Neil and I talk a lot today about spirituality, power and purpose. How we are beings composed of unconditional love and divinity, and how we can spend our whole lives trying to remember that one unassailable fact. After a career in project engineering management, Neil put the decades he'd spent reading about and studying spirituality into a book of his own, called A Higher Road, which aims to break down how to achieve a soul integration in seven easy-to-follow steps. Please join us for a fascinating, in-depth conversation. KEY TAKEAWAYS We are born as perfect reflections of the divine and then we accumulate these negative perceptions of ourselves. We can learn to identify and sweep away these perceptions through a meticulous, step-by-step process. Time is going to pass anyway, so if you have a decision to make, consider yourself in a few years either having accomplished “x,y.z” or wishing you had. Anything that is consistent with unconditional love will bring other things into your life that are in alignment with the divine. You won't accomplish spiritual/self enlightenment in one magic moment, but you can commit to a lifetime process in a moment. BEST MOMENTS “We are born; our egos take control; and we become these method actors that don't understand our reality. Our reality is our soul. This is just a tool, this is a rented vehicle, this body. And the thing is we never step outside of that and go, ‘Oh, wait a minute, I'm just playing a role, I'm just learning lessons that I need to learn.' I actually have this control of whatever it is that I'm doing. If I can keep that control, consistent with unconditional love, with all of the things that you know, are in this unified divine consciousness, then my life will be entirely different.” “All the safety, the peace, the security, the love, the joy that you are looking for, it's all inside of you. It's not without you. Everything that you see is merely a reflection of your beliefs. You change your beliefs, you change what you see. But in order to change your beliefs, you need to have a process to do that.” “When you go into the silence and stillness, this gives the opportunity for the divine to start to enter into you.” “What you create will magnetize to you, so if the more you give and you give with love, the more that will come back to you.” ABOUT THE GUEST Neil had a successful career in engineering project management, a happy marriage and family, but he was in a very dark place. After Covid hit, his career dried up, and then the decades he'd spent studying spirituality kicked in. Spending so much time with himself, he realized that he had all the qualities inside himself that he was searching for to “give himself enlightenment”. His journey brought him to writing his book, A Higher Road. Now he wants to support other people as they ask themselves those defining questions to help become actualized, fulfilled human beings. Scott was dealt a hard hand in his youth, but after he “graduated” from foster care when he was 18, he started on the path that led him to becoming first a personal trainer and then a motivational coach and the creation of his Bend not Break program. He shares his past from an authentic and vulnerable place because he wants to help others who may have hard beginnings and don't know how to start improving things for themselves. A turning point for him was the birth of his daughter, Lexi, who is the guiding light for his purpose in life; he wants her to see that he will never give up. I found our conversation to be very powerful and inspiring, I think you will too. KEY TAKEAWAYS Forgiveness of others can help free you from the anger that keeps you frozen in place and unable to accomplish your dreams You need to feel your feelings and be where you are, but put boundaries in place so that you don't stay in those dark places. Take breaks, step back, nurture yourself. You need to figure out how to fill your own well so that you are operating from a place of prosperity. Trust yourself when you feel like something doesn't feel right. Listen to those internal guideposts and rather than trying to disconnect from those feelings, try and figure out how to resolve them. BEST MOMENTS “There are constantly things that stress us or that push us to our limits – that make us feel that we want to give up. And I mean, I was a testament to that; there were four different times where I was literally five minutes away from just…tapping out. And it was the people around me that supported me and gave me that hope and saw my potential. And that's the kind of mental part of it as well. So I wanted to do something that was done for me… to help other people.” “I guess what sets me apart is…I can see people and that's something that I guess came from my life experience and constantly watching. And I think that [makes] people feel valued. I think once you're straight with people, you're empathetic, and you're able to actually show a genuine interest and are able to help people.” “I need to have those little circuit breakers; I started to call them circuit breakers after COVID – I need to have those things in my life to reinvigorate me and to do things for me. Self-care is not selfish.” “It's just very liberating to know who you are, why you're doing what you're doing, and the life that you want to live.” ABOUT THE GUEST Scott spent most of his childhood in foster care. He lost his mother to alcohol addiction and his father to a broken heart a few years later. Scott always loved being active and athletic, so he began to train to be a personal trainer, but soon found he needed to do more than just PT, so he began to study more and take steps to become a motivational and life coach. His life experiences and passion for holistic fitness inspired him to create the Bend Not Break program, which enables him to take select clients through exercise and nutrition plans to help them blow through their own obstacles. Scott lives in Belfast with his reason for being, his seven-year-old daughter, Lexi. Ryan Rae Harbuck is back on the show today, along with her recently self-published memoir, “When I Grow Up, I Want to Be a Chair.” We talk a lot about her experiences writing the book, the endurance it took over years to get it visualized and completed, how having faith in oneself can be practiced and built up like a muscle. For Ryan, being an athlete and a writer and a person in the world are very similar: if you practice it daily, you'll get better. Her experiences and perspective on the world have made her extraordinarily wise and self-reflective; I hope you enjoy our second conversation just as much as I did. KEY TAKEAWAYS “When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Chair” took Ryan 15 years to write, and most recently she had to write in 20-minute grabs while her two young kids were playing. Find a way to create what you need to create and don't despair if it takes longer than you expect. Sharing your vulnerability with others is always going to open doors and create empathetic connections. Ryan says at one point that “the universe has always had a way of guiding her to what she needed” and that certain things came very easy to her because she did not struggle. There is something to be said for going with the flow and saying yes to every random opportunity, knowing that it may offer you untold adventure. What is right for you may not be right for anyone else, and once you learn to accept and respect your own boundaries, you can see what you have to offer the world that no-one else does. BEST MOMENTS “I was always a swimmer. And as a swimmer, or as any sort of athlete, you learn to practice. And when you practice, you get better. I think that there was just sort of that ingrown sense of being athletic and understanding that, okay, well, if I practice going up this hill nine times, I'll get better at it. So then I did.I think that the simplicity of practice really did help me be able to do the things I wanted to.” “I suppose I mean, you can always look back and say, ‘maybe I could have done something differently.' But that doesn't really serve me. So, at this point, I don't think that there's anything that I would do differently. I have made it a very purposeful journey of mine, to not let myself regret things.” “Once I was actually well enough, by my standards… I started to sneak out of my house and go swimming…. That changed me in so many ways, because it kind of gave me that passion for swimming back and it gave me something to try for and in one of those little secret swims that I had…I made a promise to myself…that I was going to compete again and I was going to try my hardest. I was going to see what happened and be the poster child for what happens when you put 100% of yourself into something.” “Certainly everybody has a story. And I would challenge people to sit down and figure out what their story would be, because I think that a lot of people would be surprised by the answer. A lot of times, the things that are the most important or the most poignant, aren't the biggest explosions in your life or the biggest, you know, blockbuster moments, they're much smaller than that.” ABOUT THE GUEST Ryan has always been an outdoor enthusiast and she enjoys adventuring wherever her wheels will take her. She is a professional swim coach, author, and mom. She, her husband Andrew, and their two boys live in Denver Colorado. Charlene Madden has lived through things none of us should have to. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her grandfather, and then an abusive marriage that lasted a decade, she had a plan to end her own life when she, by magical chance, attended a workshop. Three speakers, one after the other, each of them telling a different part of her story. Charlene realized that if others could find their way to loving themselves, why not her. That moment was a catalyst that started her on the path she is on today – as a motivational speaker and coach, she aims to help every person realize that they can survive their worst days with the right tools and community support. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are many resources, in person or online, that if you need help, you can find a lot of options of community support. Reach out and get help from someone who, who you feel you can connect with and who you feel understands. Once you can love yourself enough, you'll set boundaries, and the boundaries are not just for other people, you're going to set boundaries for yourself as well on what you're willing to allow yourself to do in your life. Protect your peace at all costs. Figure out how to fill your own well and you'll have a source of energy that is constantly replenishing itself. BEST MOMENTS “I think the first story I remember writing, I must have been really young, probably grade two or three – it was a story about a baby and a mama horse, and the baby horse lost her mom. The story was called, “Do You Know Where My Mom Is?” Right. And, looking back on it now, I'm thinking, ‘wow, this was a child who was really projecting the pain that she'd already experienced as a child into a story.'” “Mental health is like diabetes, right? It's something that you're going to live with for the rest of your life; it's not something that you know, you just all of a sudden, one day go, ‘Hey, I'm better.' You know, because I am better. I don't suffer as badly as I used to. That's why doing the work, and learning to listen to my body – to slow down and take care of myself, which I didn't for so many years [is so important]. It's definitely not something that ever leaves you, you just learn how to deal with it in healthier ways. Generally, my life is 100% different than it was just six years ago. And, and that's why I'm so passionate about sharing what helped me get there with other people.” “Maybe I'm supposed to be here for a reason. Maybe I'm supposed to hear these messages, because maybe my purpose is to take all the crap that I have experienced, all the pain, all the trauma, and share it because other people have experienced it. And they need to know that there's hope.” “For me, the phoenix is so symbolic of the experiences that happen for people who have experienced trauma because I think you have to sometimes burn down to the ash.” ABOUT THE GUEST Charlene is a mother of three amazing children, a wife, daughter, Reiki practitioner, women's empowerment coach and proud Toronto Maple Leafs fan. After almost 30 years in the food and beverage industry, Charlene made a shift and now works in a mining office, which allows her more time to follow her passion of creating platforms of healing for people who want to transform their trauma and free themselves. Are you truly living your life in a way that matches up with what you want it to be? Today's guest, Ryan Lindner, experienced two serious cardiac episodes at a young age. After falling unconscious sometimes even with clients, he realized how important it was for him to understand his own energy and how to manage and care for it. It's hard *not* to redefine your life after an event like that, and Ryan made it his mission to help others figure out what truly matters to them so that they could live each day, each moment, present and appreciative of their lives. There truly is no time to waste. KEY TAKEAWAYS Think about who you are if you don't list your resume. And if you don't know, explore that. If you do, explore it more. We're all just here for a short time. People say life is short all the time, I know that. But again, you don't reflect that in your daily life.We make choices that don't reflect that. And that's all life is – it's all a series of choices you've made about what is and is not important to you. Every day can be an experiment in trial and error, every day can be a redo. If you find yourself getting trapped in a spiral of your own negative self-talk, try to treat yourself as you would a friend. It takes time but you can grow out of the habit. Most people gravitate towards familiarity; rejection is not a comfortable feeling. So what do they do, they're gonna go back to the safety of familiarity. And that's why a lot of people don't take those big risks that are really necessary to learn. BEST MOMENTS “That's all time management is – managing your own energy. When I had to manage my energy after going through a trauma, I didn't have time for the “problems”; I didn't have time to worry about those types of things. My life dramatically shifted after that and [my coaching] sessions shifted as well.” “If you believe that you're stuck, and you don't have time, then that's true.” “Every day is a redo. And that's the sort of grace that you can extend to yourself, not just other people.” “Lately, I've been trying to help this stray cat. She's so tiny and hungry. I've been trying to – I don't know what I'm doing, really. But I look at her, and I just think “I wonder what her life is like” – you know, she doesn't have anyone, she probably has never been touched. [There's] something beautiful, like, trying to have a relationship with this cat, to where there's trust, and I think I feel more at peace, you know, fulfilling my purpose working with a stray cat, then I would, at any career endeavor. There's just something you know, just beautiful about being there with life.” ABOUT THE GUEST Ryan Lindner is a personal development specialist who has worked as a behavioral coach for clients and organizations worldwide. After two sudden, unexplained cardiac arrests at a young age, he began to explore with clients the different perspectives that come with any profound, life-changing event. If you aren't living, you're dying. It wasn't uncommon for Ryan to teeter on unconsciousness even, at times, while working with a client, which required him to prioritize his energy and time. He learned how to assist clients to do the same. Ryan enjoys his time with his family and animals. He finds peace near his favorite spots by the beach. Sometimes you need the world to crash around you before you spiritually wake up to realize you are not living your true life. Our guest today, Mary Welp, is a cranio-sacral and body work practitioner who believes that we need to be more authentic and vulnerable both as a daily practice with ourselves and in our interactions to live our lives filled with purpose. She has spent the last 20 years focusing on her mission to help others self-actualize and our hour of conversation truly flew by. I hope you'll join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS Use the acronym RISE {Relax, Imagine, Suggest, Empower} to move past your reactive emotions and become more emotionally regulated so that you can actually be present in each moment. To live your best life, be vulnerable, authentic, grateful, and find your purpose. You don't have to believe in bodywork, like Reiki, to get on a practitioner's table. The work never requires your belief. A story about a father and a son standing on the banks of a dirty river: the son asked his father, “Dad, is the river polluted?” And he says “no, Son, the river is not polluted. The river is pure, it just carries pollutants. I'd like to remind us that we can stand on the banks and watch our thoughts. So question what you think? Question what is in your river, your habits, your thoughts, your imprints. If something in your river does not suit you anymore, does not help you, does not make you a better, happier person – fish it out, get it out of that river. Change is possible for all of us. BEST MOMENTS “In our culture, we give a hard time to people who state what they need, and there is nothing wrong with that – we all have needs.” “If you're consistent; if you wake up with the same intention several days in a row, that's adding more and more fuel and power to that intention. Because intentions and thoughts are energy, they are physical energy. So what energy do you want to create around yourself?” “When we pre-design our life, we are excluding all of the extra magic and beauty that can happen in our life, because we are setting ourselves down such a rigid path, that maybe there's an opportunity for something that we had never dreamt of, to happen.” ABOUT THE GUEST Mary Welp, CH, is a certified hypnotherapist specializing in hypnotic meditation. After 20 years as a practitioner in Craniosacral therapy and 14 years as a certified hypnotherapist, she launched RISE Hypnotic Meditation to teach others how to bring meaningful, positive changes to their lives. Join me for this wonderful conversation with a man who seems to have done it all. He's backpacked around the world, been a traditional tattooist, founded companies, and he has written a fabulous book, “The Art of Conscious Communication for Thoughtful Men.”. He has studied mindfulness and awareness and brings this spirit of adventure and spiritual equanimity to every interaction. We talk about how paying attention, and making intentional decisions can shape us and the people in our world. KEY TAKEAWAYS We can practice our communication in the traditional sense, to share a sense of community with one another. And we can understand this as a skill, and improve on it. Everything is a projection, so we can train ourselves to change our projections and therefore our perceptions – we can change our lives. We can gradually change our ways of thinking over time that will enable us to curate a life closer to the one we've always visualized for ourselves. There is a real magic to life that underwrites the scientific explanations. We can't identify it, only experience it. BEST MOMENTS [Do you love yourself?] “I do. This is how I feel about myself. I'm a really good man. You know, I'm kind, I'm generous, I'm loving. I care. I'm passionate. Action-taking. You know, I've brainwashed myself to love myself – literally fired the neurons so many times that they've wired together. And I believe my own hype. So, am I worthy of love? Well, philosophically, I believe we all are. But did I love myself before like this? No. So how did I change? Persistence, consistency, determination, and repetition, every day, out loud, “I am good enough, just the way I am.”” “Everything I ever said or did to myself or anyone else, whether it was loving or cruel, or whatever it was, apparently, I should have done it. Why? Because I did.I can't change it. Does that mean I want to repeat the mistakes in the future? Hopefully not. Hopefully, we learn and grow and evolve, right? But everything that's happened should have. This is radical self acceptance.” “I certainly understand that most of what we do is subconscious. Most of what the brain does, by the way, is running this system, this body of ours that we're completely unaware of. And I also you know, I love the practice of being more conscious, spending more time noticing – whatever it is that you can notice. And I find there's a lot of practical and functional application of that into the quality of your life.” “What I find fascinating is, in those glimpses of being beyond identification, beyond the ego in those glimpses, is that me?” ABOUT THE GUEST Jem Fuller has backpacked around the world, founded several businesses, but it's his study of mindfulness over the past several years that has changed his life as well as the lives of countless others. Darrell Evans has founded and run six multi-million dollar companies since he was 20. He's a natural entrepreneur whose main mission in life has been to make a positive impact on others. In our conversation we talk about his sometimes circuitous journey to becoming the business mentor he is now, and the lessons he has learned along the way: how to decide what is truly important for you and how to prioritize that, how to become successful in a literal and figurative sense. I hope you enjoy it. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is a connection between sports (the team building, the discipline, the practice) and entrepreneurship It is important to be transparent about the struggles you've had in your journey to humanize the process and demonstrate empathy with those who may want to follow in your footsteps Find out what works for you and hone that. Darrell finds creative juice in “procrastinating”: the adrenaline high of the time crunch and delivering diamond-cut results right on deadline. For a lot of people that would be a “flaw” that would need to be “corrected”. When you're considering a new opportunity, you need to check that, if you say yes to it, will that compromise your ability to be the best and most present version of yourself to the commitments you've already made. BEST MOMENTS “I don't know that I was born an entrepreneur, but I do believe that there are a lot of aspects of my entrepreneurial journey where I have been made, in a sense. I think that there are some unique gifts that we were all given at birth, or we came into this world with. I call that someone's superstar DNA.” “I've become more sensitive to “opportunity costs” and realizing that I have a kind of newer decision model. … The distinction is hell yes. You can't say yes to all things. So there's good opportunities. But is it a “hell yes” opportunity?” “I think our weaknesses can catapult us to our greatest strengths, if we are able to find comfort in who we are.” “Jim Rohn said, “You know, it's not the blowing of the wind that determines your destination, it is the set of your sail. When the winds blow, they blow on all of us.All of us are going through it in some way, shape, or form. The question is, what do we want to do? How are we going to navigate the sail during the wind? Sometimes we wait too long to change the sail.” ABOUT THE GUEST Darrell Evans is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and co-founder of Yokel Local Internet Marketing, a digital marketing agency). David has not only experience in the health care sector, but experience in managing the companies he's been a part of, which has given him a unique perspective on the holistic nature of the human body. His work helped him realize that, in allopathic medicine, doctors don't talk to each other so the ultimate picture of their patient's health ends up fractured. He saw it proved, time and time again, that a more integrative approach was ultimately the healthier and more empowering choice. That inside out approach to one's total health is what eventually led him to writing the book New You, Who Knew, where he advises readers on how to figure out who they are in life so that they can be guided by their own principles. This is a lovely, thoughtful conversation with someone whose own heart is worn on his sleeve. I hope you'll join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nobody can truly have 27 core values because it's too vague. It's important for us as humans to work from our morals, but in order to understand what truly matters to us we need to get specific about what kind of world we want to create. Getting intentional about our life can help us both live better in the present moment and get better prepared for the future. Focus on the little things that we actually have control over. Living the life you are meant to frees up a lot of energy for the work you are meant to do. BEST MOMENTS “What's our mission, our purpose – if you will, our passion – to me, that makes a huge difference.” “We are better off if those from whom we seek help for our health, to optimize our health or to overcome challenges with our health, if they would think of us as a whole person.” “If we think of ourselves not as assets, but as human beings, what a shocking concept. We are human beings, right? We are a part of nature, we influenced nature, we are influenced by nature. And I like this natural metaphor because I think it fits human beings better. And so if we think of values as a foundation, it's like having strong roots.” “Having regrets is like having a backpack, you know, filled with rocks and useless stuff, they're not gold bars, but rocks. And so when we don't have regrets in our life, you know, that backpack gets a lot lighter. “ ABOUT THE GUEST For over 30 years, David worked in the health care sector, eventually becoming the CEO of a community health center, working to create the first patient-first, integrative health service. After his own eureka moment, he left his high-paying job and wrote the book “New You, Who Knew?” which aims to instill a foundation of values in every person so that they can face their life feeling empowered to make their own decisions. He has been married to his wife Linda for 36 years, and they have two grown daughters. Imagine surviving not one, not two, but four near-death experiences and coming out of that with an unshakeable sense of who you are and what your purpose is, and you will have a glimpse of what my conversation with today's guest is like. Roxanne Chaput is an energy healer, life coach and certified shaman, who has worked in palliative care and has supported thousands of people on their own self-realization journeys. With a contagious laugh and a clear-eyed sense of purpose about who she is and what she is here to do, we have a deep discussion on how to find ourselves, how to clear our energy, and how to start going down the path we need to. KEY TAKEAWAYS We often put this energy out in the world where we say we want something, but we don't believe that we can get it. So we confuse ourselves and the universe. We can know a lot about the world but none of us knows everything about the world. It is important to keep that humility so that we can continue to learn from everyone we come into contact with, every day. We can release ourselves from the conditions we place on ourselves about not deserving good love, good relationships, work that fulfills our purpose. And sometimes we need mentors to show us how. When we are ready to hear the message we will hear the message. BEST MOMENTS “When we find a purpose, sometimes like we find, like an imminent purpose, where we love what we do…but there always feels like there's a little part missing or that we're not quite getting it right. And that usually means that we're not actually living to our soul's purpose. So we can live …[our] heart purpose, where we feel like we're fulfilled and we feel like we're happy doing what we're doing. But a soul [purpose]... having inner peace within us is a completely different feeling. And it resonates completely differently than just like our heart's purpose.” “I believe that we are divine beings and we are divine creatures, and I have love for every single human being on this earth. Regardless if they have love for me in return. I think that as humanity, we are meant to love and serve one another.” “I don't view death as a negative thing or as a bad thing. Yes, it's hard to understand that that person physically won't be on this earth plane anymore. However, I know that their energy envelops me…I know that these people will never leave and that we will be reunited in this lifetime and other lifetimes through their energy.” “I love feeling the energy of the trees, the earth, the water, even fire, like just having fires outside, like, anything that really restores my energy and just really allows me to be at peace and smudging. And I think that those are really crucial and you know, really significant pieces that really helped me kind of restore and regenerate my energy.” ABOUT THE GUEST Roxanne has several certifications to help empower you in finding your own purpose. She is a transformational; cognitive behavioral; and a confidence life coach; as well as an emotional intelligence coach and enlightened relationship coach. She has also been certified as a Law of Attraction and forgiveness coach, a neuro linguistic programming coach and a Shamanic Healer. In this episode I have a fascinating conversation with Liam Naden, who feels half scientist, and half spiritual mystic. We talk about how to rewire our brains to let ourselves live life at our best; how to defuse fear; and how to turn on the best possible version of ourselves. We do this first by understanding how our brain works and getting past our primordial urges to protect ourselves. We don't need to be passive observers of our lives anymore, we can be active participants. KEY TAKEAWAYS Our brains are basically machines, and we can learn how to use them properly, just like you were reading a manual. If you put negative, toxic thoughts and ideas into your brain, you're going to get toxic results. When you get rid of your fear, you do create your life, but you don't necessarily sit down and create a grand plan for your life. You allow your life to unfold and you do what it says in the Bible – you give no thought for tomorrow. Ask yourself, why is this happening for me? What's the gift here? BEST MOMENTS “Your [brain's] main function, it's not just to keep you alive, and to manage everything about your life, but it's to make sure that you are the best that you can possibly be. And that means physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. And the reason why it's designed to make you the best that you can be, is because…you have a biological purpose. “[Let's] explain what the four parts of the brain are, because one of those parts is our connection to Infinite Intelligence, basically. That is the intelligence that surrounds us, is in us and is all around us, there is an infinite [aspect] to it, there's something that's making all this universe work. And we can all agree that, you know, something's at work here. We can also agree that whatever it is, is infinite, that there is no, there is no end. And if it's infinite, it also must be intelligent. And that intelligence must be infinite as well.” “Whatever you do, don't be afraid. Because when you're afraid, you activate your sympathetic nervous system, you shut down your brain's infinite part to bring you all the solutions to any problems…give you your perfect life give you the life you're designed to live, you block all that out, because your brain, you're making your brain think you've got to react to something around you.” “You can't change what happened to you, but you can change what you think it means.” ABOUT THE GUEST Liam is a marriage counselor, an author, a motivational speaker, and the creator of neuro state rebalancing. Jennifer and I have a fascinating discussion about health, spirituality, and intentionality – as you'll hear, there isn't much, if any separation between them for my guest today. From going through a traumatic accident when she was younger which started her on the path to becoming a Pilates instructor and healer that she is today, we talk about how to use questions to truly listen to the body. Health and manifestation are interlinked for Jennifer, and it was truly a joy to sit down and spend some time with her. KEY TAKEAWAYS We are raised with this idea that we have to be singularly independent, but we are not meant to do life alone. It is okay to ask for help. You can continually set intentions for your day, and instill moments of ritual in the everyday tasks you do. Mindset is practice, just like everything else. The idea is to plant seeds for the life you want, and trust that they will blossom, even if you can't see immediate changes. BEST MOMENTS “The moment that I found what was for me, that's when I found myself. Where you are today is where you are today, that's where you're meant to be.” “The universe wants you to be crystal clear.” “The key is to have moments (of depression, uncertainty, etc). The key is to not have days.” “I love everyone, but I'm not *for* everyone, and that's okay.” ABOUT THE GUEST Jennifer has been a Pilates instructor for over 20 years. She became fascinated with the holistic healing modalities pilates offered after being in a serious car accident in the late 1990s. In her practice, Jennifer has motivated clients with her inspirational and intuitive understanding of human anatomy, and continued passion for the body, mind & spirit connection. Jennifer, a third-generation Pilates instructor, had the honor of training directly under second-generation Pilates instructors and founders of the internationally renowned Pilates Center of Boulder. Jennifer was born and raised in Cape Cod Massachusetts, and owns Pilates studios all over the United States. Chad is a man whose faith is deep in his bones. He discovered a personal relationship with God when he was still in his teens, survived a near-death experience, and grew up to embody his spirituality by becoming a pastor. He is passionate about engaging with people who have doubts and questions about the existence of God, and is energized by talking about the big questions and using his experience, philosophy and belief to help others find answers. . KEY TAKEAWAYS Most people haven't read the Bible but have deeply embedded beliefs about what it consists of. Pastors can help people develop a relationship with God that works for them. There is always something to learn. Curiosity and humility can only help us be continual, lifelong learners. It's okay not to know everything! Teachers don't necessarily have all the answers but they can help you ask the right questions. The only thing you need to engage with “ancient” texts or spiritual questions is a willingness to have an open mind. BEST MOMENTS “He's not just some historical figure locked up in a dusty, old book – there is a living God who speaks and walks with people today.” “You *can* read the Bible, you *can* handle it.” “I'm not religious; I consider my relationship with God the most important thing.” “It's a historical narrative, you don't have to be a scholar, or search for meaning.” ABOUT THE GUEST Chad's relationship with God truly began when he was a teenager, and has been an unshakeable cornerstone of his faith ever since. Doug and I have a thoughtful discussion about individuality, burnout, and how to integrate all aspects of ourselves into our daily life. As a long time medical doctor, professor, and practitioner, Doug has a unique perspective on how to dig down deep into ourselves to find out who we are, and how we can support ourselves to find health and optimal self expression. Join us for a thought-provoking, generous conversation that will leave you wanting more. . KEY TAKEAWAYS As a society we don't often prioritize or take time for self reflection, which is how we digest and process information and have original ideas. We have been taught that the “tall poppy” growing in the field is the one that gets cut down, but as we move forward into the future it is our unique characteristics that will help reinvent our world. Personal growth can be slow, but if you have faith that things are changing day by day you will see results. Vulnerability, honesty, and supporting each other are true qualities of leadership. BEST MOMENTS “Good envy isn't really talked about...envy is, by psychological standards, a functional state of being.” “We think that (bullying) is normal, so when you look at our business deals, that behavior you learned as a kid continues on in your life.” “Leadership is really just making sure that the people under you have all the things they need to do their job properly.” “The internet gives you the ability to see knowledge, but it doesn't give you the ability to have wisdom. (Similarly), the problem I've had with inspirational books is that they aren't inspirational enough to make you transform.” ABOUT THE GUEST Douglas Garland, M.D. practiced orthopedic surgery for 37 years in Southern California. In addition to serving as Medical Director of their total joint service at his local hospital for five years, he served as chief of four service units including spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. Mike is one of those entrepreneurs who has an almost boundless supply of energy. He is known in the corporate world as the “business architect”, and enjoys helping people create the business which will not only sustain their finances, but their purpose in life. He has studied with self-actualization experts like Tony Robbins, and enjoys broadening his perspective and learning new things constantly. In this conversation, we break down the process of how to become acquainted with the thing that ignites us. By examining our patterns and seeing what does and does not work for us, we can remake our habits and watch productivity grow in the free spaces. . KEY TAKEAWAYS We need to find out what we feel passionate about and make room in our lives for it. When we are aligned with our purpose, we can achieve our flow state, where we can be several times more productive. An integral part of the flow state that a lot of people miss is resting. Figure out how to deeply replenish yourself. You can learn how to leverage your gifts for a deeper impact and fulfillment (in life). Even the experts have to practice and build skill in their area of expertise. Be curious about life and who you are. Find out what you're drawn to and what you can let go of. BEST MOMENTS “Let's be more precise about our own lives, because today is the only day that I get to live. I get to live tomorrow too, hopefully, but I can choose to live it more intentionally, more purposefully, more aligned with my genius.” “When you're tapped into your genius, you have more fun.” “Take out a sheet of paper. On one side, you write ‘life', the other side, you write ‘death'. You look back at your life, especially the last few weeks, the last few months – at everything that's brought you death, or what's…brought you life. How much life have you had in your schedule? How much death…? How many things on your death list can you easily reduce or delete over the next few weeks?” “When we're running on fumes, when we don't have enough juice in the tank, we're just limp biscuits.” ABOUT THE GUEST Mike is “the most famous social entrepreneur you've never heard of”. He, his wife and family live in Nashville Tennessee, though his curiosity and love of travel take him all over the world. Mike is known for having helped over 100 high-level clients all over the world transform their businesses by helping them hone in on their “why”, which has translated into hundreds of thousands of dollars of profit for them. Through psychology and philosophical theories like “flow state”, Mike proves that you can be compassionate, kind, and a CEO. 300 episodes seemed like an appropriate milestone to reflect back on the two years I've spent making this podcast, and talking with all these different, inspiring people from across the world. I never expected that I would be still in the thick of this project, all these episodes later, and I just feel incredibly grateful and privileged to be still doing my passion, my fire in the belly, all these years later with you as my audience. Join me as I reflect on all the joy I've uncovered and lessons I've learned over the past 300? KEY TAKEAWAYS There's a difference between listening and hearing Today is theday; we get to make different choices. Become a master quitter. Rather than doing all the things you think you should be doing, how about doing one or two things really really well? There comes a point in your own passion journey where you can't possibly work any harder, so then dream a little bigger. Visualize where you want to be and leave a little space for the magic to happen. BEST MOMENTS “(when)...guests, when they can...accept and really embellish the things that they're good at, that they love, that's where they sit in their ‘zone of genius', if you like – and then also with the things they're not good at, they get rid of it, they go somewhere else, they hand it over to someone else. Being understanding of yourself, that's been one of the key, common messages, for a lot of people.” “Anyone who lives with a childlike wonderment, sometimes just asking the questions that nobody else does…out of those simple questions, come the best answers.” “How can we hear each other properly?” “Things aren't happening toyou, they are happening for you.” ABOUT THE GUEST n/a ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. I loved my conversation with Babs. He has the calm, yet passionate conviction of a spiritual teacher, who has the scientific, business data to back up his claims. We talk about how to access our purpose in life, how to hone it, how to dig deep into our own authenticity, and how to use our challenges to bring out our best qualities. I hope you enjoy it. . KEY TAKEAWAYS Don't hold yourself back from finding a coach or mentor in whatever area of life you want to improve in. Pressure is for diamonds. Life's challenges come together to bring the best out of us, if we are ready to meet them. Create your dreams, speak them into the world, and then stick to your plans. The person who isn't very successful, they aren't “not successful”, it's an issue of mindset. Family background or wealth doesn't predicate success, it's a matter of perception. BEST MOMENTS “Everything we do in the “afternoon” time of life, that's when we start to activate some of the codes that we learned in the “morning time” of life. It's when we're most productive.” “(When) our life experiences have been similar, when those categories are similar, when we put those boxes together, we can then begin to find themes. Then those themes can tell us where to go or where to stay away from.” “My best and most creative ideas have come from the very early hours of the morning. I like to write when most people are asleep. I get most of my creation from the dark of the night. There is something beautiful about the night time and the early morning.” “The game of basketball, for instance, there are individual players who are great, but it doesn't matter how great they are, they still need a coach. And what the coach does is see the best within them and harness the skills.” ABOUT THE GUEST Babs is an experienced strategist and passionate business leader with keen insights into the development and implementation of high impact business transformations, and marketing & brand development initiatives. Will is an experienced HR professional who brings a wealth of knowledge and passion about people and how they work to his daily life. He is consistently inspired by his life and his teachers, and he wishes to pass that along to others, and has made that his mission in his career and through the books he writes. We have a fascinating conversation about authentic, work priorities, how you can figure out for yourself what those are, and what traditional employers may not be understanding about the new career landscape. KEY TAKEAWAYS You need to work to live, not live to work. Understand that your life needs to exist outside of your job Emotional intelligence is just as important as experiential and academic experience, and emotional intelligence *is* a skill that can be learned and practiced. Work backwards, but not in terms of a project, from the end of your life. What would you wish you had done differently? Work from that place of knowledge. How can we re-invent leadership to understand intrinsic motivation? How can we harness the lessons that we as a world have learned the past few years to help make work more meaningful and filled with purpose? BEST MOMENTS "That's where good leadership comes in, I think -- not just using carrots and sticks, but really getting to know their people and leading with a sense of personal motivation and compassion. ... You only learn over time that it's about the journey and not the destination." "Writing a second book was better for me as a person. It helped me focus on, you know 'what does bring you joy'." "Nobody says 'gee I wish I bought a nicer car' or 'I wish I'd gotten a better raise or promotion.' We need to remap." "The Great Resignation is happening amongst those leaders who aren't modern leaders. ... (employees are) leaving these leaders who haven't delivered for them." Roy is passionate about business and running them authentically. After a career as a CMO, working for one company in different capacities, he began to write books about his experience. We have an intriguing conversation about what makes businesses and people successful, how they can stand out and how people can make their dreams come true. KEY TAKEAWAYS + success equals 20% planning, 80% execution. + Certain things need to have the fingerprints of leadership; they can't be delegated. + Who are you? Use your character to inspire your business decisions; sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. + Is it real? Does it represent something you care about? Is it true? BEST MOMENTS “What I care about is how you're going to apply that knowledge to execute my strategy.” “I love blank paper because as I said earlier, creativity starts with the unknown. I believe that; I have experienced that. The difference is I'm not willing to start when there's something already on the page.” “Success comes through getting a nano-inch of progress as fast as you can.... I've learned the power of loyalty, that was one of the most underrated concepts in business.” “We didn't have any inertia built into the business. You can do whatever you want. If you have motivation in your leaders, you can get it done.” ABOUT THE GUEST Roy has worked in business for over 20 years. As the president of a major data and internet company, his leadership took the company to $1 billion in annual sales. He is devoted to inspiring leaders, entrepreneurs and organizations to stand apart from the usual boring crowd and achieve their true potential. Over the past decade he has pivoted to writing down his experience in a series of books; his latest will be launched at the end of May 2022. Roy lives in Vancouver. Join me for a whimsical conversation with retired professional athlete Jean-Philippe, who has founded several athletic companies and has a background in corporate business. Deeply philosophical, and able to connect moving his body with spirituality, we talk about nature, the disconnection in today's society, and of course, how to lose yourself on the slopes. KEY TAKEAWAYS How can we embody empathy, appreciation, and see all of what happens to us in the world as working for our benefit? We need to separate from the true survival challenges we faced in the beginning of human civilization and that we somehow downloaded into modern times. It is a lack of self esteem on the individual and collective levels. We can never fully understand or grasp or see the truth because it is always perceived by imperfect people. Allow yourself to be surprised by the new things you find about yourself. BEST MOMENTS “I was in a flow state for two and a half hours….it had been two and a half hours of perfect curves; I had this core, intimate experience of “being skiing” – it felt like I wasn't there. I was the curve, I was the movement.” “Why am I being triggered, and what am I learning about myself? Which means, what is my relationship to – others?” “I'm fully and over-simplifying, but if you see people that are colder and more shut down…they aren't dancing as much…they trade for material safety, it might be a part of this collective process we are in.” “It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in that we have a planet and an ecosystem that provides enough for everything we need. And because we believe it doesn't, we're creating a life pattern where soon we won't have enough.” ABOUT THE GUEST Jean-Philippe was born in the French part of Switzerland, but has a magical connection to Brazil. He played professional sports until he was in his late 20s and they still are a big part of his life. He has been divorced twice and has three children. He is an adventurer, and an outdoors enthusiast. CONTACT METHOD Find Jean-Philippe on LinkedIn. Ruth Rotkowitz is a novelist, including the book Escaping a Whale which focuses around holocaust survivors. Join Ruth and Pete in this episode where they talk all about inherited trauma, how Ruth was inspired to write and why at 73 Ruth has finally realised her dreams and is living her truth as a novelist. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ruth has always wanted to write. She loves reading, literature and writing. She became an English teacher where she taught at a specialist New York school as well as community colleges in New Jersey but also wrote too. As a child of holocaust survivors, Ruth has suffered from what is called inherited trauma. One of the many side effects of this is children feeling like they have to make their parents suffering worthwhile, often by being extremely successful. Recent research has also found that the trauma affects children biologically, that they are literally inheriting the trauma as DNA. Networking and finding other people who had suffered similar experiences to Ruth is what pushed her to take her book to a publisher. The fear that parents passed onto their children is very real. Many holocaust survivors for example, wouldn't trust certain countries and would even be scared to be honest about their religion. BEST MOMENTS “The holocaust is over but is it for the next generation?” “The reaction I have gotten [to the book] has been wonderful” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Karen is a speaker, life re-invention-coach and author. She focuses on helping women transform their lives and live their dreams with her tailored one-on-one coaching programme and wrote the book 'The Ins and Outs of my vagina' a funny, relatable and honest story about her life adventures with her partner in crime, her vagina named V. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly is something Karin felt from an early age but found from working in high pressure work environments she was just going through the motions and actually discovered she had lost that passion and creativity for life. When she began writing her book, Karin rediscovered her zest for life, her ability to be innovative, creative and so much more. It saved her and it then became her mission to help other women too. Karin believes she is living her purpose more than she ever has before in her life, yet she also recognises that her journey isn't done. The way Karin starts her day is to fill it with gratitude. She ensures that she is grateful for what will happen for her in the day, she has the mindset of gratitude and this helps her feel positive as well as feeling like she has more control over situations. She is setting the tone and experience of what happens in each day. What a lot of people don't know, is that Karin almost didn't publish her book. She was worried and anxious about what people would think of her and how it would affect her family. But then she decided that she needed to let go of any shame and instead channeled her passion and excitement for the book. Even if it just changed one woman's life it would be worth it. BEST MOMENTS “The more I leaned into that and gave myself to explore my creativity and explore my dreams, it's like the fire just got stronger and stronger” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Join Pete as he speaks with one of the top performers is in the adult film world Erik Everhard. Erik has won numerous awards, been one of the top paid male performers and in 2010 embarked on a transformational journey studying NLP in one of the top institutes in America. He has made it his mission to teach elite sexual skills to high performers to help them dominate the bedroom as they do in the board room! KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Erik, is the passion you feel inside you that drives you forward, that helps you work for and achieve the things you want in life. Rik believes you can't easily define success, it is ne of those things that you realise and recognise when you see it. The feeling we get from success is so shrt-lived, often we need something tangible to hold onto. Before performing Erik studied at college, including courses in psychology and kinesiology. But he found nothing really caught his interest enough to keep studying. He dropped out completely and went to massage therapy school, it was whilst attending this school he got into the porn business. Erik likes to be and feel right but he has never put himself forward on topics unless he feels he truly understands and knows all the facts. He recognises his unique experience from being a porn star to understanding women, sex and both the physicality and psychology behind that. To become the successful adult performer he did, Erik had to master his own body. It was only when it came to writing his own book and teaching others that he was able to really unpack how he did this and the skills he had learnt and built. From a mental perspective, being a porn star is incredibly hard. It is this that usually ‘breaks people', not being able to handle this. A lot of sexual education out there is written and made by women. But this can cause a barrier for men because it isn't always aimed at them in the ways they are receptive to. BEST MOMENTS “Sometimes you need something tangible to hold onto to let you know that you have had that success” “I was always interested in how I could be better” “You learn to master your own body” “You cannot perform your best if you don't have the right mindset going in, mindset is everything” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. I got completely inspired by this conversation with Sarah Noll Wilson, and I bet you will too. Sarah is an executive coach, an author, and an entrepreneur with over 15 years' experience in leadership roles. Beyond that, she has a creative background as she studied theatre in her undergrad. In this episode, we talk about how she was diagnosed with panic disorder in 2013, and how that was the impetus for her to learn a multitude of coping mechanisms, including mindfulness techniques. That experience truly set her on the path to writing the book, “Don't Talk About the Elephant”, and informing her current style of coaching and way of being present with life. KEY TAKEAWAYS - gratitude (and better coping mechanisms) to deal with stress are like muscles, it will be a while of in-depth practice before they get automatic. If you have problems with avoidance – avoiding conflict, avoiding challenging situations, etc. – the ability to observe it will help you deconstruct its power on you in those situations where it gets triggered. A lot of adults raised in a Western, North American way don't necessarily know who they are, because we've been conditioned to look at outside metrics, which confuses us on a deep level. To get back to ourselves, we need to learn how to be vulnerable. Vulnerability leads to authenticity. BEST MOMENTS - “I know that I don't have myself figured out that I never will. Because, again, internally, externally, we're constantly evolving. I'm… not naive enough to know that. ‘Yeah, I've got it figured out.' It's like, ‘oh, I got this figured out. And then I'll figure this out.' And then I'll realize 10 more doors I need to go into.” “What I learned in my work is, when we are talking about topics such as avoidance of connection, avoidance of conversations, avoidance of a vulnerability, it raises the emotional heat -- because the emotional heats already in the room. And so, what I've discovered in my work is sometimes when we can take a topic that's hard, and just give it a little lightness, a little playfulness, a little levity. It can make it easier for people to say, ‘oh, yeah, me too'.” “There's a beautiful mantra that I hold with me for my theater days. But it applies in these moments, which is have the discipline to learn the lines, and then have the faith to forget them. And the idea is like: ‘do your work to know your role, your part, your character at such a level that you don't have to worry about it… you can just be, you can just come from that moment.” “I don't want to talk about the weather. I want to talk about what's been hard or what's been amazing and to have people pause, and be heard and think in a way that they don't normally.” ABOUT THE GUEST With 15+ years in leadership development, Sarah earned a Master of Science degree from Drake University in Leadership Development, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa in Theatre Performance. Deirdre is a powerful human. When her father died by suicide 20 years ago, her grieving over his death turned into the impetus for following a deeply spiritual, healing path. She created the Stress Solution System from what she learned, an online course which has helped hundreds of people the world over – including herself. She is a cancer survivor, a student of humanity, and a fascinating person to spend an hour in conversation with. Please join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS - we need to talk openly about the things we are ashamed of, to heal them. There is truly no human experience we can have that we should feel shame over. We have personal and communal freedom in how we choose to respond to the things that happen to us in our lives. If we can be intentional about our words and actions in moments of ‘stress', we get to be who we are meant to be, which frees us and has a ripple effect outwards. If we can do the ‘hard thing', the thing that we aren't familiar with, this can help strengthen us emotionally and physically. Consistently ask yourself this question, ‘how do I want to show up in the world?' BEST MOMENTS - “I know happiness is a skill. That's where the true freedom is because it's something you can learn.” “The moral of the story is that such are the intricacies of our lives, that when they're woven together, it's impossible to say what's bad, and what's good. What if it's all good because it's all just happening?” “I have been dogged by perfectionism. I know today that perfectionism is the lowest form of leveling because you can never get there. I could never do anything. I was afraid to make a mistake. I was afraid to do it wrong. It was never good enough.” I'll say, you know, ‘where's your wife?' And they will say ‘what? She's at home.' ‘Do you love her? ‘Yeah, I love her very deeply.' And I'll say, ‘well, she's not here. So, let's just clarify this is love about physical proximity?' And of course, they are always answered no. Then I'm ready to go to the next step with them. And I will say, ‘what if love is a gift? That's the law. What if people come into our lives and they bring us a gift?'” ABOUT THE GUEST Deirdre Macguire is a world-class holistic mind-wellness expert and author based in Northern Ireland. I'm so excited to get the chance to introduce you to Susanne, a creative forced to be reckoned with. Susanne has been involved in some aspect of the arts for a long time – as a founder of an arts mentorship organization, coach, and producer. She also has experience organizing and running various festivals. In our conversation, we get deep into topics about spirituality, our souls' journeys, and how we can use our own unique creative powers to get in touch with both. I hope you will join us, and hope you enjoy our discussion as much as I did. KEY TAKEAWAYS What determines us as human beings is how we embrace our difficulties and using them as lessons on how to become better people Taking care of ourselves is being of service to others. We are of this world and aren't separate from it, so what we do for ourselves we do for others. Get your inspiration from wherever you can get it. Make physical space for your curiosity – be intentional about questioning and learning and see what will grow. BEST MOMENTS “I look at it as being a channel of energy. I must perform in the way where I allow myself to be that channel, which means that…I must take care of myself to hold that space for people.” “I don't believe in hierarchy because we are all on that level – on a spiritual level, we are all equal. It's like, we all have the capacity to open our hearts and minds. Of course, there's some training, there's an opening, there's an availability, that you allow yourself to be available for that kind of connection. And there's a training towards yourself.” “The conception we have a death is very limited. And for that reason, I know that I'm not afraid of dying because I know that there's something more to it.” “But I'm also very respectful of everyone's own journey to finding the potential that they have inside of them. Because you can never judge another person's journey in life. So, I can give some instruments I can ask some questions. ABOUT THE GUEST Susanne was born and raised in Copenhagen Denmark, though because of her love to travel she doesn't feel attached to the identity of being “Danish”. As the founder of Danig Performing Arts Service, she is a performing arts producer, mentor, and management consultant with international expertise in creating festivals and developing arts institutions. Her life's passion is helping artists discover their true potential, shine with clarity, and use their innovative power to tell inspirational stories She now works on an even deeper level to help them find their vibration, keep their vibration, and naturally fulfill their soul's purpose CONTACT METHOD Susanne's website https://www.danig.dk/ Buy Susanne's book, “A Book on Love” https://abookonlove.com/ Follow Susanne on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/susanne.danig ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'. Eileen joins me today to talk about her journey surviving an event that no-one should have to – losing her husband and the father of three of her children in a plane crash just a few days before Christmas. In the months and years that followed Eileen became determined to find joy and purpose in her life following that tragedy, both for herself and as an example for her children. With her MBA in finance, she became an angel investor, using the money she gained through ethical capitalism to make a positive impact in the world. She is also a yogi, a holistic wellness and life coach, and an author. Her book Time to Fly was seven years in the making. She has since remarried to her second soulmate and she and her new husband completed their blended family with the birth of baby Zack a few years ago. I loved talking with Eileen about her process from businesswoman to host of coaching retreats and getting her particular spin on creativity and spirituality. I know you will, too. Please join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS - your community is there to help you through hard times, if you can find the strength within yourself to ask for help. Finding any purpose will get you out of bed. You can change your purpose later. Find something, in the wake of grief, to get you moving. - the deaths and painful moments we go through can be gifts, because we honor our loved ones and our pain through transforming our grief.” - when you find joy on the other side of grief, it is that much more tender and heart-opening. BEST MOMENTS “I'm not like a grief expert. I'm not going to write a 123 Agree with Me. I was like, ‘who's going to want to hear my story?'” - “I think what I'd like to share is that grief keeps happening. And that's a good thing. It's a beautiful process to incorporate (Brian)'s memory into the present moment.” - “What I noticed in those moments, what was present for me was so much love. It was people reaching out. Every human being no matter even what they said, even if they said the wrong thing -- you know, they were doing it all out of love.” “The pain is right there for us to go through.” ABOUT THE GUEST Eileen is a mother, a wife, a yogi, a holistic nutritionist, a life coach, and an author. She has seen first-hand the positive changed wrought by ethical capitalism and is an impact investor. Just over 10 years ago, her husband Brian died in a tragic plane crash a few days before Christmas, leaving Eileen and their three young children to cope and re-imagine their life after that unimaginable loss. After she mourned the loss of what could have been, she became determined to shape meaning out of grief, and to live her life with a sense of passion and joy. In the intervening years she met her next chapter in life, her husband Mike, and together they had a son, Zach, completing their blended family. Join us for an hour of authentic conversation about loss, love, and laughter, about the power of hope to rebuild our lives. Jeff owns and runs his own wood-working business, which he started in his garage and quickly grew to over 60 employees. He began to evaluate his growth, wondering how he could make better use of his time after a few years. The observations he made about his processes, both as a CEO and as a boss, had him realize that the lessons he learned could be transposed to every business, and help more than just the people in his industry. One of his mantras is that once you see waste, you can't unsee it. His life's work is about teaching people how to run their businesses where they won't burn out or lose passion for the initial seed of inspiration that got them started in the first place. KEY TAKEAWAYS - listen to your trusted wing-people about your direction as a business owner. Sometimes they can see things that you can't. Delegation can save you time and make you money. What does your business look like when you're not in it? That's its value. If you can start thinking about how it would run without you, then you can see where its strengths and flaws are. Even the things you “have to do” to run your business can become “want to”s. The more “want tos” you have in your business, the more successful you will be. If you don't have many, you can rethink how and why you are in the business you are in. BEST MOMENTS - “It's better to do one thing at a time, all the way through those five steps, 100 times, rather than doing it 100 times through each step. You'll end up being significantly more efficient at the end of the day.” “A vision is such a great start because it's your ‘yes/no' to every question that comes along. ‘Should we take this contract? Yes or no', ‘does it get us closer to our vision'…it's a four-step process once you get your vision, you figure it out, you start delegating…. then working on (the) automation steps that are redundant, then looking at the value of your business…that's where I need to put your focus.” “There's something about being an educator…I like being that guy (that other people come to for advice). If the book's changed someone else's experience, then it's made the past two years worthwhile.” “We go through a lot of products…and that product being on our balance sheet all the time is cash. As soon as you cut it up, it doesn't have a lot of value. That grey area there between the beginning and the end, (we want to make that shorter).” ABOUT THE GUEST Jeff Finney is the owner and CEO of Ultimate Cabinets and has over 15 years in the woodworking manufacturing business. Starting out in his small garage, Jeff independently grew his company into a business of 60 employees with a combined 55,000 square feet of manufacturing space. He helps other entrepreneurs regain control of their business and life. In 2018, Jeff was honored as a Woodworking Network 40 under 40 in the wood industry. He is a feature writer for the Woodworking Network. He has also published articles in both Surface and Panel and FDMC Magazines. He co-hosts The Push Thru Podcast. Jeff lives in Oklahoma with his wife and their three children, where he enjoys playing golf in between his kids' sporting events. I love what I do because it brings me into contact with people like Cathy. She is a force of nature – an indefatigable force for good and accountability in the world, someone who has goals of sustainability and equity always in the forefront of her mind. In this hour or so of our conversation, we talk about how she founded her own business, Solutions 2 You, when many others are figuring out how to retire. She shares about her time in Africa and how her experiences there taught her that even the smallest interaction can change a person's life forever. When she came back, she wanted to use her background in the business world to make a measurable difference. Our conversation is about how to create a business that makes change, but it is also about spirituality, service, resiliency, and accountability. It filled my cup and I hope it fills yours. KEY TAKEAWAYS - look for the joy in the very small things. You don't need a certain accomplishment or dollar amount to be happy. Look for the ways you can be of service to someone else, every day. You will make mistakes every day and you can learn something new every day. Don't hold yourself back from taking those lessons, wherever you may find them. It may come from someone older, or someone younger. If you are completely present in the moment, each action you take will be the right one. BEST MOMENTS “Almost everything I do comes back to: ‘is this going to get me closer to where I need to be or is it detracting from what that end goal is.' That's the question I ask constantly, together ‘what else'.” “It's all about acceptance and understanding we all have biases…but it's to catch ourselves in those moments, to be present for who I'm with. Honoring you and understanding what you're willing to share with me, but not necessarily having to agree with you.” “I continuously look back and check in on myself, to make sure that I don't actually follow the same sort of patterns, to be more aware, to really listen in.” Sustainability is a key part – which is why it's so important to know what it is you're wanting to achieve. If you don't know that, it's a perpetual hamster wheel….'yes, I've received that monetary amount, now what?'” ABOUT THE GUEST Cathy Dimarchos had spent over 35 years in the finance industry when her daughter, who was in her gap year between high school and university, decided to spend some time in Tanzania, volunteering. Cathy went for a visit six weeks later and ended up staying 18 months. When she returned home, she changed her life, and Solutions 2 You was born. Solutions 2 You strives to provide strategic business guidance, leadership and mentoring to small business owners and individuals, helping them achieve sustainable growth. Solutions 2 You is also the platform of her pet project, Raise the Baseline. https://www.solutions2you.com.au/raise-the-baseline, in which she aims to raise the standard of living for each child. Mary's and my conversation was unexpected and informative. She decided to change her career after she'd had children, when she realized that she wanted to feel more noticed in her life, both by others and by herself. She had always had a passion for color and adventure and followed her heart into starting a new business as an image and wardrobe consultant. While she tapped into the psychology behind dressing well, there is a presence in her, an authenticity and attitude of service towards her clients, that sets her apart. I hope you'll join us. KEY TAKEAWAYS - It's good to know the rules, but it's also good to know when to toss the rules and go by your instincts. You learn the difference through practice. Dress for the life that you want, not the life that you have. It's a well-known adage for a reason – it helps to reset your self-confidence on a subliminal level. Vibrationally, visibility is opportunity. When someone comes and taps your shoulder…that all has to do with visibility.” There is no timeline for any part of your life. You realize things when you realize things. BEST MOMENTS “Every client that I've had, I've always had something in common with them, we've always been aligned in some way.” “Colors help other people see you at your best.” “Your loved ones know when you've made (an effort). It doesn't matter what you're wearing, they can see when the effort is being made.” “I don't think there are enough Madonnas in the world. You can change that name to Beyonces, Nicki Minajs, whatever you want to change that name to. Culturally, women are shyer, they're more withdrawn, they don't boast about their achievements. I wanted to help more women be seen in the world.” ABOUT THE GUEST Mary is a former accountant who realized that she needed to change careers because she had always felt invisible. When she looked through her journal, she realized that two words kept recurring in her writing: colour, and image. Given her experience in hospitality and other parts of the service industry, and her desire to help women gain confidence in their lives, she found her fit (pun intended) as a personal stylist and wardrobe consultant. She lives in Northern Ireland with her family.
