Welcome to the PRmoment Podcast. This week we're chatting to Victoria Dean, chief executive officer of Portland about her career story. Portland has 350 employees globally and 270 in London. It has offices in Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Washington, Nairobi, Singapore, Doha and London.Victoria's career has been a fascinating journey - she has spent the majority of her career working for The British and Commonwealth Foreign Office, in various non-communications roles including head of the political team at the British Embassy, Washington, the British High Commissioner of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and the head of strategic finance. She was also the global head of public policy at Google before taking up the global CEO role at Portland earlier this year.On the show today we're going to talk to Victoria about her time at The British and Commonwealth Foreign Office and Google, she'll be talking to us about what a modern public policy role looks like and how it overlaps with the world of public relations and communications.Victoria will also no doubt tell us why she left what I would say is one of the top 5 public policy roles globally to return to Portland earlier this year. Before we start the PRmoment Awards 2023 are now open for entries - do check out the awards site PRmomentAwards.comThanks to the PRmoment Podcast sponsors, The PRCA.Here's a summary of what Victoria and PRmoment founder Ben Smith discussed:2.30 mins Victoria worked in The Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the British Government for 16 years - what are the good and bad things about working for the government?“When there's less money about you have to be more thoughtful about recognition”“The other big thing about working for the government is - Politics… You have to be aware of that and be apolitical”“The very best secretary of state I worked for was William Hague”7 mins Is there a sweet spot about how long a secretary of state should serve?8.30 mins Victoria has had multiple roles in The Foreign and Commonwealth Office - what were her favourites and how did these prepare her for a second career in communications and public relations?“Diplomacy is PR”9.30 mins Victoria's first comms role was as the UK Government's spokesperson for Europe in Brussels for the Blair government.13 mins Victoria talks about her time as the High Commissioner of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.15 mins Victoria left her role as the High Commissioner of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean because she had lots of experience in Brussels and the UK government was in a panic as a result of the Brexit referendum - she was the 3rd employee of the Department for Exiting the European Union“For the first time in my career, the advise I was giving was unwanted and not really listened to”“In papers, I wrote in those early days ‘the situation with Northern Island will be very difficult and here we are 7 years later”19 mins Victoria reveals the reason she left the Foreign Office was that she feared the UK would make a mess of Brexit.19.30 mins Victoria talks about her first stint at Portland - learning the ropes of agency life.20 mins Victoria talks about her time as global head of public policy at Google.“The reality is there is no business operating anywhere in the world that isn't increasingly affected impacted by government, politics, regulation (or) legislation.”“How we, collectively, regulate the internet is one of the biggest questions of our time"
In this episode of Obsessed, we pay tribute to the life of Queen Elizabeth who reigned for 70 years- her legacy is a testament to a woman driven by duty and led by passion, her family, and her trusted advisors.
A very good morning to you! It is Thursday morning, 30 June 2022 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“Thus says the Lord:“Heaven is My throne,And earth is My footstool.Where is the house that you will build Me?And where is the place of My rest?Isaiah 66:1And then we go to Acts 7:48:“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands”We cannot put God in a box. He cannot be housed in a man-made temple. Now I have been to London, I have been to that magnificent work of art, St Paul's Cathedral. It is incredible but too small to house the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. You have often heard me speak about my green cathedral... the maize fields on the farm! Walking through those fields as a young man worshipping God... what a place! Or riding my horse, Snowy, in the hills and fields around the farm. Hearing the birds singing with wind blowing on my face... Huge clouds gathering for life-giving rain, the flashes of lighting, claps of thunder and then the rain falling down and washing the earth clean - Oh, what a cathedral!I have visited prisoners in maximum security prisons all over the world - In South Africa, New Zealand, Scotland and Northern Island and some of these men are there for life. They will never come out. They are sitting in prison where they can hardly see the sun. But you know the amazing thing is when they meet the living Christ as their Saviour, they are more free to worship God than many of us who go into these majestic cathedrals but have never found the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.1 Corinthians 6:19 says our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit - There is nothing more beautiful than a believer worshipping their Lord Jesus Christ, from the depths of his heart.Today, you might be in a wheelchair, or in hospital, you might be in a prison cell but I want to tell you something now - That will not hold you back because Jesus lives inside your heart. Have a wonderful day and praise Him because He is worthy.God bless you and goodbye.
The party wraps up their to do list on the Northern Island, leaving only the Southern and Eastern Islands to visit. Their list of things to chat with the AllGlorp about is extensive, but with Kit's organizational spreadsheets, our adventurers are hoping for an efficient meeting. What does the party want from the AllGlorp? How much will the ancient creature be willing to provide? And how is the Southern Island faring against the elemental upheavals that are undoubtedly plaguing it? Find out on this week's episode of The Last Refuge. The party continues their assault on the ice devil and his frost salamander mouth in the Northern Island's Arcanium. At stake is the Water Key, the third of the four elemental keys our adventurers need if they want to have any chance at stopping the Beast. Will the party best their foe? Or will the devil's prowess combined with the Key's power prove too much? And will Bria remember how combat works in D&D after all this time? Find out on this week's episode of The Last Refuge. This lab we get into the recent election in Northern Island, and how a Sinn Féin victory is some absolutely great craic.
The RNIB's Customer Advisory Group (CIAG) is a group made up of blind and partially sighted people from around the UK to help form the work that the RNIB is doing around inclusion for blind and partially sighted people. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey caught up with David Aldwinckle, RNIB Head of Innovation and Customer Voice and visually impaired CIAG group member Tony from Northern Island to find out more about the work of the group and their first face to face meeting in London since beginning Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions. David talked about the set up of the CIAG group and what the group have been discussing and focusing on over the last couple of meetings. Tony who is visually impaired and lives in Northern Ireland outlined to Toby why he wanted to become a member of the CIAG group, why it is so important for other visually impaired people to join groups like the CIAG group and have their chance to input on the work that the RNIB is doing to make a more inclusive society. Tony says that the RNIB does listen to what group members say and the feedback is really helping to make changes. Tony also reflected on how good it was to be able to make it to the recent CIAG group meeting in London to have the chance to meet people face to face since all the online and virtual meetings that have taken place during all the Covid lockdowns and restrictions. David ended by highlighting the topics that are being discussed at the next couple of CIAG meetings. Do check out the RNIB Connect Voices opportunities on Facebook or visit the RNIB website and search for customer involvement for more about ways to get involved - https://www.rnib.org.uk/ (Image shows RNIB logo. The party finishes hearing the tales of Bria and Sniv and continue on to the Northern Island to retrieve the Water Key. Things are never as simple as our adventurers would like, however, and they get stopped by not one but two different encounters with the local fauna. What denizens of the North will bar the party's way? Will they cut a path through the obstacles with ease? Or will someone get seriously injured by a normally relatively harmless foe? The opening of the Imperial War Museum's new ground-breaking Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries at IWM London on Thursday 20 October 2021 will also include a new digital installation providing a unique, immersive sound experience for visitors looking at local stories of the Second World War and reflections on the Holocaust which will tour round the UK in 2022 and 2023. The digital installation is part of the IWM's Second World War and Holocaust Partnership Programme (SWWHPP) which was established to collaborate with cultural partners across the UK and engage new audiences in projects which explore local Second World War and Holocaust collections and themes within the national context. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey caught up with Rachel Donnelly, IWM SWWHPP Project Manager to find out more. Rachel began by telling Toby about the background to the project, working with the partner venues, the development of the sound installation and how some of the stories were brought to life through a number of writers who were involved in the project. Rachel also talked about the accompanying Braille material produced by the RNIB and the collaboration with RNIB NI members on the Northern Island story. The interview includes an extract from the beginning of ‘I serve, I rise' by Amina Atiq for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. The sound installation can be experienced at IWM London from Thursday 20 October 2021 with the installation going on tour to the partner venues during 2022 and 2023. The immersive sound stories can also be found along with more background information and tour details from the project website - http://onestorymanyvoices.iwm.org.uk SWWHPP was generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the eight regional partners are Aberystwyth University/Prifysgol Aberystwyth; Bodmin Keep and the Museum of Cornish Life; The Holocaust Survivors' Friendship Association, Leeds and Huddersfield; Manchester Jewish Museum; The National Holocaust Centre and Museum, Nottinghamshire; National Museums Northern Ireland and Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. We are one of just 19 nations out of 197 that does not have an armed police force. Most are island nations like the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa, Fiji, Tuvalu and the like. But Norway, the UK, with the exception of Northern Island, Iceland and New Zealand are the outliers in more developed nations who have decided that they will police by consent and not force. However, times change, communities change and attitudes change. For a long time, the police themselves did not want to be armed. The most recent survey of police showed 69 per cent wanted to have guns on them at all times, not just in the boot of their cars. This is up considerably from 2008, when just 48 per cent of officers wanted to carry firearms. I don't blame police one little bit for wanting the added assurance of having a firearm. A significant number of the crims they're dealing with have guns, and more importantly they're not afraid to use them - against each other, against members of the public and against police. A survey in 2017 found a 38 per cent increase in the number of staff who'd been threatened with a firearm compared to two years previously.Of frontline staff, 21 per cent had been threatened with a gun, 40 per cent of those more than once.Of course, that number will be up considerably given the shootings over the past four years. However, Police Minister Poto Williams, who was on with Mike Yardley this morning, says the people she represents are dead against routinely arming police. We did ask for clarification from the Minister as to who exactly her people are.She is a New Zealander of Cook Island descent, the MP for Christchurch East and the Police Minister. However, in the interview, the people she says she represents appear to be exclusively Māori and Pacific Islanders from south Auckland. Not Christchurch, not New Zealanders as a whole, and not the police. So, a rather small sample size to make a decision that the police should not be routinely armed in the face of the dangers they are exposed to on a daily basis.

Welcome to Season 2 of The Well Read Poem podcast. During this season, our host, classicist and poet Thomas Banks will be reading and interpreting six poems of history. This week's poem is “To Virgil” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Poem begins at timestamp 6:06. To Virgil by Alfred, Lord Tennyson Roman Virgil, thou that singest Ilion's lofty temples robed in fire, Ilion falling, Rome arising, wars, and filial faith, and Dido's pyre; Landscape-lover, lord of language more than he that sang the "Works and Days," All the chosen coin of fancy flashing out from many a golden phrase; Thou that singest wheat and woodland, tilth and vineyard, hive and horse and herd; All the charm of all the Muses often flowering in a lonely word; Poet of the happy Tityrus piping underneath his beechen bowers; Poet of the poet-satyr whom the laughing shepherd bound with flowers; Chanter of the Pollio, glorying in the blissful years again to be, Summers of the snakeless meadow, unlaborious earth and oarless sea; Thou that seëst Universal Nature moved by Universal Mind; Thou majestic in thy sadness at the doubtful doom of human kind; Light among the vanish'd ages; star that gildest yet this phantom shore; Golden branch amid the shadows, kings and realms that pass to rise no more; Now thy Forum roars no longer, fallen every purple Cæsar's dome— Tho' thine ocean-roll of rhythm sound forever of Imperial Rome— Now the Rome of slaves hath perish'd, and the Rome of freemen holds her place, I, from out the Northern Island sunder'd once from all the human race, I salute thee, Mantovano, I that loved thee since my day began, Wielder of the stateliest measure ever moulded by the lips of man.
Talk about thrillers! Flynn Berry’s debut, Under the Harrow, won the 2017 Edgar award for best first novel. That book and Berry’s follow up, A Double Life, were both NYT Editors’ Choices. Chris Donaldson was brought up during The Troubles in Northern Island and for years he looked towards escaping his conflicted homeland on his motorcycle with the goal of riding to Australia. But, not long after he set out he hit a ‘road block’ and as often happens in travel, plans changed. He ended up riding his Moto Guzzi Le Mans to places he thought he never would and 40 years later getting to Australia is still on Chris’ mind. An epic journey and an entertaining tale that reminds us that travel is not about the destination. In this conversation I chat to comedian/actor/presenter Shane Todd (https://twitter.com/shanetodd). Shane began performing stand up at the age of 19 and then began posting videos on YouTube, as part of the Harlem Gun Club a Northern Irish based comedy collective. He has performed solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Mandela Hall and Ulster Hall. Belfast Telegraph hailed Shane as “King of comedy”. In February 2019, Shane joined the cast of the BBC Northern Irish mockumentary sitcom Soft Border Control. He also presents the Shane Todd show on BBC Radio Ulster and hosts his own podcastsThe Shane Toddcast and Tea with me.We kick things off with Shane explaining why he doesn't drink before a gig. We discuss the importance of having friends who’s feedback on your material you trust. Shane recalls how he got into stand up and how it took him 10 years of performing, before he overcame the nerves and anxiety. He describes the Northern Island comedy scene and what he learned from performing stand up in New York. He explains how his approach to writing has changed over the years and how lockdown has given him the opportunity to go over and analyse his material. On a more serious note, Shane confesses why he had to go cold turkey on football manager. We debate the merit of of writing material on a notepad rather than a laptop. He explains how he used his experience of getting diagnosed with crohn's disease, as an opportunity to adopt a more positive mindset and attitude. Shane also talks about the experience of being a new Dad and why he prefers not to do material on his family. Why he started creating content and how roasting the Ulster rugby team led to Shane going viral. And why scheduling making content didn’t work for him. We also cover how Shane got into radio presenting and why things fell into place when he was more his authentic self; his love for playing football, why God is never described as a best selling author and loads more!If you like this episode please do rate and review the podcast on Apple.Happy listening :)Steve - @offkeysteveSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/balancing-acts. Episode Notes A weekly dictation to help learners of the English language to improve their listening comprehension. How to use: Don't look at the transcript (text) below. Listen to the podcast (the dictation is repeated twice) and try to write everything you hear down. Check your text with the text of the dictation. If any word is different, it is probably a listening comprehension mistake. Try to listen again to the word and repeat the pronunciation a few times. If you don't understand the word when you read it; it is probably new vocabulary. Listen to the dictation again. You should understand some of the words that you didn't understand before. (The dictations starts at 34 seconds, if you don't need the instructions) Transcript: A group of friends from Northern Island booked a flight to meet up during lockdown. But all is not what it seems. With all of the bars and pubs closed in Northern Ireland, the only place to drink a pint was at the airport. So, they all booked a cheap £10 flight and met up at the airport to have a drink at the bar there. They posted photos of their beer and boarding passes on social media, and have been branded ‘legends’. Selfishness or a great idea, what do you think? Episode 77 is an interview with Tristan Miller. In 2010, Melbourne man Tristan entered the record books when he became the first person to complete 52 marathons in 52 weeks. He had sold virtually everything he owned to fund his $120,000, 42-country, globe-trotting marathon, which included all seven continents. Along the way, he clocked up more than 260,000 kilometres in the air and raised funds for charities UNICEF and Facing Africa. During his courageous - or insane, depending on your point of view - and epic journey, Tristan ran in all the major international marathons, including New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo and also found himself in Rwanda, Mongolia, Siberia, Morocco and Northern Island, Cuba and the Cayman Islands, to name just a few. He even ran across the frozen fields of Antarctica. Tristan had started running six years earlier following a divorce. He found that running long distances gave him a sense of achievement and the courage to try other things he had never previously dreamed of doing. The catalyst came in 2009 when his employer, Google, closed its Melbourne office during the global financial crisis. With no attachments, he decided to go and see the world. This interview is this story. Can I ask you a favour; would you be able to go on over to Apple podcasts to rate, review and subscribe to the podcast? Today on the Fire In The Belly Podcast, we meet the Founder of Serenity Sparks Joy and the only KonMari consultant in Northern Island, Sharon McNulty. It was a couple years ago when Marie Kondo changed the way we tidy up in our own homes or even in our offices. This Japanese way of decluttering is pretty straightforward—keep things you love and throw away (or give away) things that don’t spark joy. Let’s learn more today about this and how Sharon can change different lives through this method. Other topics discussed too were: organisation vs tidying up, sharing your expertise to other people, the importance of systems and strategies, KonMari’s effect on one’s life, and many more. KEY TAKEAWAYS The first step is always the hardest. When Sharon knocks on your door, expect changes—changes in your wardrobe, changes in your kitchen counter, and believe it or not, changes in your life. Her clients are still in awe of how the KonMari way of decluttering helped them. It might be daunting for some to throw away stuff. Sharon is here to explain everything and show them that there is a more satisfying way of life when we open our minds to the Japanese art of decluttering. Is organisation and tidying the same thing? No, some of us think it’s good to keep a LOT of stuff because they’re kept or ‘organised’ in designated areas. We need to tidy things up! Let’s only keep the things we really need. KonMari is also a way of life. Think about the similarities with some existing paradigms: The abundance mindset. There is enough in this world for you and the other people. Let us only take in the energy (and also the stuff) we need. The law of attraction. Kondo teaches about choosing what sparks joy. In the law of attraction, we are called to manifest only the desired energy (i.e. positive high vibrations) we give and receive. Life is too beautiful to be wasted on things that don’t matter. Surround yourself with positivity. Be cautious and don’t gravitate towards external factors that bring toxicity. BEST MOMENTS “Use the KonMari method; you’d only ever have to tidy up once.” “In order to let go of the items, you got to let go of the emotions.” “You can’t really be fulfilled with things.” “My pride is my business… believing that I can do something and going ahead and actually doing it.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Book a FREE 30-minute consultation with Serenity Sparks Joy: https://www.serenitysparksjoy.co.uk/our-services Learn more about the KonMari Method and Marie Kondo here: https://konmari.com/ Order the book ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing’: https://shop.konmari.com/collections/books/products/the-life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up-1 Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061)! It takes a lot understanding and communication skills for educators, trainers, and parents to establish a connection with teens and young adults. In this episode of the Fire In The Belly Podcast, Ruth Young, External Consultant at Young Enterprise Northern Island and Managing Director at Ruthless Media, talks about her relentless help for the youth of Northern Island. For others, they term it as ‘difficult behaviour’, for Ruth, it was just plain difference of personalities. If we learn to listen to their emotions and their needs, the amount of value we can impart to them will be unlimited. Ruth has been forever passionate in helping people. Ruth also shares how she started her own company, The Ruthless Media, and her own brand Wee Jowee. Listen in as she shares her successes and learnings in both life and business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ruth’s family is very important to her. She’s very grateful to have parents who provided for her and also shaped her beliefs and values as early as possible. They were a big influence in igniting her fire in the belly, which is helping other people. She was always active in the church. She spent the first part of her career helping young people. Understanding and communicating with the youth without being authoritative is a gift. It was always easy for Ruth to empathise and connect with them. She also worked for The Bytes Project in providing training for the youth. And now, she serves as the External Consultant of Young Enterprise Northern Island. But Ruth had to move Church due to the attitudes her previous church had on those who remarry. This brought a realisation to her, that her faith in God is greater than anything—greater than other people’s judgment on her. Ruth also creates her content at Wee JoWee and shares there her motherhood stories. Though giving birth is one of the most wondrous things, it can also be difficult for mothers to manage stress when raising up a child. Ruth shares her learnings through her vlog so other mothers who need guidance can find it easily online. BEST MOMENTS “I just want to be that person that helps them and make everything better.” “Giving doesn’t mean giving all of yourself.” “My faith isn’t necessarily in people; my faith is in God.” “I don’t shove my beliefs down people’s throat…I’m always open to conversations ton understand other people’s views.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Visit Wee JoWee, where Ruth shares about her motherhood! https://www.weejowee.com/ Listen to Fire In The Belly Podcast in Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061)! The party returns to the Eastern Island after a mostly successful evacuation of the Northern Island. Upon their return, they find themselves very quickly thrown into a meeting with three of the four leaders of the Enclave, including Octavia, the Enclave's founder and leader of the branch underneath The Last Refuge. What will these Enclave leaders have to say to our adventurers? What questions will the party have in return? The party continues to secure the evacuation routes from the Northern Island, and the devils keep on coming. This time, our adventurers face some of their toughest fiendish foes yet. To complicate things further, hoards of civilians FINALLY appear, attempting to evacuate, and are targeted by the invading devils. Will the party be able to save and protect the fleeing civilians? The party continues to work to secure the evacuation routes from the Northern Island against the invading devils. It seems that there is more in store for our adventurers than lemures, nupperibos, and elk, however. What new fiends will try to break through the party's blockade? Will they continue to have the same level of success against these more powerful foes? And again we ask, where are all of the civilians who are supposed to be evacuating? The party finds themselves swarmed by lesser devils as they attempt to secure evacuation routes in the city underneath the Northern Island. With the help of Telanis, an elf ranger, they must keep the tunnels clear for fleeing civilians. But Semyaza's infernal minions are going to do their best to break through. What devils lie in store for our adventurers? Will they be able to hold them off for the evacuees? And how many times are the players going to forget that devils are immune to fire? As a reporter for the New Yorker, Keefe has established himself as one of the best magazine writers in America on crime-related subjects. Hear him talk about the challenges of his trade, and how he was able to write The Snakehead, a non-fiction book about the criminal underworld in New York City's Chinatown, and, more recently, Say Nothing, a New York Times best-seller about 'the Troubles' in Northern Island that was shortlisted for the 2019 National Book Award and won of the prestigious Orwell Prize.
After two significant votes in the House of Commons pointing in two different directions - one towards a Brexit agreement and the other towards a general election - we discuss where we might be heading. Does Johnson have enough to persuade the wavering MPs he needs to get his Brexit deal over the line? Do his opponents have enough to stop him? Can European leaders still force the issue? And if there is an election, does it all change again? Plus we ask: what's actually in the WAB? With Helen Thompson, Catherine Barnard and Chris Brooke.Talking Points:Last night was the first time since the Brady amendment that Parliament voted positively on something. The stop Brexit MP’s seem to be implementing tactics without a strategy. Are there any conditions under which the 14 Labour MPs would vote for Johnson’s deal for real? The Labour whipping operation is still working. So it seems unlikely that a WA will go through this House of Commons.Johnson’s deal is mostly Theresa May’s deal, with the exception of some really complicated legal points around Northern Island.Until people are given an either/or choice, they’ll probably keep dancing around.Where is the EU on all of this? They are unlikely to renegotiate another deal.Macron could still force a choice between no deal and revoke, but he doesn’t want to be blamed for the UK crashing out.At some point, an election is going to become inevitable. Can anything pass without an election?Things have changed for Johnson: now he’d be campaigning with a deal.Christmas could put a wrench in things: would a winter election be bad for Labour? How effective was a Benn act?Perhaps more so than people originally thought. A shorter extension could reveal the weaknesses in the Benn act. But Macron probably won’t force the issue. The first part got so much reactions and Gavan was surprised. So, in this episode of The Speed Mentor Podcast, he gives us an update. What's happening with the change that he and Andrew has been creating? Gavan and Andrew are aware of the success rate of start-up companies. So, as they help the aspiring entrepreneurs, they want them to have a strong foundation because it isn't all about the money. Aside from talking about his aim to put Northern Island on the top in the tech industry through Project-X, he also encourages everyone to see vulnerability as a strength, not as a weakness. This is a great start if you want to build connections that will last and matter. Time to listen in! KEY TAKEAWAYS Vulnerability can be your strength. If you're not opening yourself up to people, it'd be difficult to create connections. And, in order for you to understand and influence them, you must convince them you can be trusted too. But, before you open yourself up, you need to trust and be confident about yourself and your abilities. There will be people who won't be as appreciative with what you're doing, but that's okay as long as you focus on the people who can see your value. He and his partner are ready to help entrepreneurs in Northern Ireland, especially those in start-up, be successful with their combined knowledge in tech and personal development. BEST MOMENTS “You got to touch people to make a difference in them.” “Create a foundation of achievement first.” “If we believe that we can bring all the stakeholders together as agents of change, we can create an unstoppable movement.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Gavan Wall Official Website ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. After walking away, a decade ago from his gilded life as a leading Barrister and property investor, Gavan Wall started his entrepreneurial career in inauspicious circumstances as he lost everything in the property crash. But he refused to give up, re-building a financial fortress from scratch, until now he leads multiple successful multi-million £ companies across FMCG, Franchise, Tech, Property and Mentoring. He's the Speed Mentor and serial entrepreneur, who shares with you all the breadcrumbs of success and just as importantly the failures. If you listen, you can avoid the potholes and learn to conquer your fear and live a life of success and abundance just like him. If you were asked the question, “Who are YOU?”, and you were to answer in an instant, what will be your answer? Was it something that's positive? Negative? Or did your mind go blank? For Gavan, his clear answer was ‘The Future #1 Entrepreneur in Northern Island.' Today on The Speed Mentor Podcast, let Gavan help you have clarity on how you perceive your whole self. When you know who you are and what you want to be, it's easier to answer those kinds of question. It's also simple now to start your grand plan when you know yourself from within. Remember that what others see in us is what we think of ourselves. Learn how you can manifest those thoughts for yourself fully when you tune in. “You are your most important asset.” KEY TAKEAWAYS What we think of ourselves will manifest on our behaviours and actions, so what people see that we do are based on our own thinking. If we think we're worthy and capable, we start doing tasks that will fit in with our own definition of us, and people will also see that. 6 THINGS TO DO to get to know yourself: You must believe that what you're doing is important. You must maintain an ongoing conversation with yourself to sense check yourself. You are what you think you are. Upgrade your horizons. The bigger your goal is the larger the abundance that you'll receive. How do you talk to other people? How do you deal with achievements and failures? Start consuming worthy resources to learn from. (Bonus) What would Gavan do? BEST MOMENTS “You are who you think you are or you are what you think or you become what you think.” “The tell-tale signs about who you are, about who you think you are often found in the reactions and engagements with those who we come in contact with.” “How you act will determine the reaction of others.” “Just the fact that people know I spend time working on my mindset changes their impression of me.” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Speed Mentor Podcast: Everything is Energy | Apple | Spotify | Stitcher Develop An Unstoppable Mindset And Deliver Your Gorilla Goals on June 27 at Bullitt Hotel ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. “Massive action makes a difference in double-quick time.” – Gavan Wall, The Speed Mentor If you have enormous ambitions but refuse to put your best foot forward, then you'll be nowhere near your goal. So, in this episode of The Speed Mentor Podcast, Gavan talks about how important is massive action to realise your goals. Know that dedication, consistency, and commitment are needed when you take action, so you can endure whatever obstacles we face in our journey. Gavan encourages you also to give off that powerful, intense level when you execute your plans and to be purposeful to others lives, so you don't only gain success, but also happiness. Start listening to the #1 Business Podcast in Northern Ireland to know more! KEY TAKEAWAYS Starting your day with gratitude makes a big difference in how positive and energetic you'll be in facing any challenges that will come your way. You become more committed to achieving your goals when you announce them publicly (i.e. social media). People become instant believers when they see that you're able to deliver what you have promised. “Most people only work enough so that it feels like work, whereas successful people work at a pace that gets such satisfying results that work is a reward. Truly successful people don't even call it work; for them, it's a passion. Why? Because they do enough to win!” – Grant Cardone Always raise the bar high. If you're going do it, be great at it. Don't put in half-baked efforts so you won't have any regrets. “Great things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” – Abraham Lincoln No matter how big your business grows, if at its core, it does not aim to impact people's lives, then you won't ever feel real satisfaction. BEST MOMENTS “You should be starting each and every day exactly the same as I do, with some form of gratitude or some type of affirmation in your life.” “Don't be there to take part; be there to take over.” “Happiness is the ultimate metric. It cannot be trumped by anything I say.” “My goal of being the #1 entrepreneur in Northern Island will still be a way way off in the distance, but because I went daily, it's much closer than it would've been otherwise.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Hustle: The Cure For Those Who Complain | com More info on Speed Mentor Retreat (May 18-19, 2019) at com ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. Many of us have a dream, a calling, or a change in direction that we want to pursue, but how do we make the leap from where we are today to where we want to be in the future? We often know in our heart or our gut when it is time to leave a job, change careers or leave a relationship, but we often feel paralysed by the thought of how to achieve this. My guest today, Kate Smith Jamison, was someone who made that leap. It took time, and it required a strategy and support, but she achieved it with grace and equanimity. Kate shares her journey of transition with us on today’s podcast. From being a commodities trader at one of London’s leading investment banks to become a yoga and Ayurveda practitioner in Northern Island, Kate now lives her purpose through helping others enjoy the fruits of these ancient traditions by maintaining healthy, balanced minds and bodies. Kate started practicing yoga 15 years ago as a means to find balance and ground herself amongst the noise and unpredictability of a career working for the major financial powerhouse, Goldman Sachs. What started as a release from a hectic workspace gradually became a lifestyle choice. Through her love for the practice and some key guiding teachers and mentors, Kate completed her yoga teacher training while still working in the city. Kate’s yoga teacher trainer also introduced her to Ayurveda, which was the start of a passionate and rewarding journey. It became increasingly clear to her that yoga and Ayurveda were inextricably intertwined - Kate felt it was vital to practice and study Ayurveda in order to become a more rounded yoga practitioner and teacher. Luckily for her, Dr. Deepa Apte at the Ayurveda Pura Academy was just across London, and under Deepa’s excellent Ayurvedic and Western medical tutelage Kate trained to be an Ayurvedic Therapist and Consultant. In our conversations Kate shares: • Her journey from commodities trader to yoga and Ayurveda teacher • The moment her heart knew the truth • How to leave on your own terms • Why she engaged others to help her with her transition • How to stay energetically grounded during transition • The importance of equanimity • Why Ayurveda is the art of living wisely • Why we need to listen to our bodies • The importance of the breath • How to drop out of your head space and into your heart • Learning how to ‘be’ rather than just ‘do’ • The importance of knowing you are always supported in your transition • That the universe is always there to catch you Visit her Website, www.theyogaandayurvedaclinic.com or follow her on Facebook - www.facebook.com/tyacbelfast “Master your breath, let the self-be in bliss, contemplate on the sublime within you.” - T. Cliff spent 12 years as Joe Cocker’s lead guitarist and music director, and he also played on Robert Palmer’s hit album, “Secrets”... winning gold and platinum albums status with both of these artists. Cliff shares LOADS of great stories about working with both of these legends, including: How he hooked up with Joe Cocker… flying from LA to New Zealand, and why Joe Cocker, Nicky Hopkins and Bobby Keyes got kicked off the flight… playing in Israel and Northern Island when both places were a hotbed of violence and war… playing in Berlin, both before and after the wall came down. The State of Victoria was established in 1851, so maybe Dr D was looking at Australian Colonial when looking up where Victoria is... as it hasn't been part of New South Wales since that date. Also, Victoria is almost as big as the United Kingdom, so my 'Part of NSW' as Dr D put it, would fit every thing except Northern Island with in it's boarders.I loved the interview with Geocass, and I hope the 2015 Mega Event will be great fun for all involved.Cheers,ps - look forward to seeing photos of Dr D's Dalek costume mentioned in the show.
