Happy Monday! Everyone had a great holiday, but everyone here at Team One Life Radio is ready to get back to spreading positivity over the airwaves! We have a great show in store for you today! At the half we have Author Sharon St. John discussing her book, "Me, Myself, and Men." First up, we have Logan Shiels with our Monday beauty segment, so let's get started! Logan Shiels Logan Shiels is an Oklahoma girl that has planted her roots in Dallas. She has immersed herself in all things beauty and fashion. Logan is currently a specialist stylist at ERA salon, and is also the co-founder of Uncommon Man alongside her husband Kyle Shiels. She loves getting active, not only in fitness but in her community as well through philanthropy. No matter the day, she’s ready to hustle. Gua-Sha, Body Brushing, Body Painting Gua-sha or kerokan, is part of traditional Chinese medicine in which a tool is used to scrape people's skin in order to produce light petechiae. This helps with lymphatic drainage! Gua-sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. Use the massage tool to up the body towards the heart, and then back down the body. Dry brushing is also an effective way to invigorate your skin! To dry brush, you use a natural-bristle brush to gently but firmly brush your skin in long strokes toward your heart, usually going over each area two or three times. At your belly, you brush in a clockwise motion. Dry brushing is typically done before showering, and should be followed with a vitamin-rich moisturizer or your oil regiment! Sharon St. John Sharon St. John is the author of the memoir Me, Myself and Men, a memoir in which she explores her personal self-esteem struggles and how they have affected her relationships with men. She believes that low self-esteem is like being trapped in your own mental prison, and hopes her story can help others to recognize and work through their own self-esteem issues. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from St. John’s University, and has worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 20 years.  Me, Myself, and Men Sharon thinks that when people are born, comparisons immediately start. When you start comparing yourself to other people, that is the first mistake you can make. Sharon had a very rough upbringing, when her mother put her into foster care, and then tried to get her back after a long time. Abandonment can effect everyone differently, but for Sharon, she had to become comfortable with herself in order to get over her abandonment issues. While jogging, Sharon's mind ran through what she heard people ay about her, and she came to the conclusion to that she has to be okay with herself at the end of the day. You can not control the past, but you can control yourself and where you are in the moment. Because Sharon didn't use to love herself, she found herself settling for anything. Toxic relationships made her stay in situations that she found herself in, all because she felt she wasn't good enough. Sharon has been a licensed mental health counselor for twenty years and has worked in private practice, health care and school settings. She holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Vermont and is licensed by the state of Vermont as a Mental Health Counselor. Sharon is solidly trained in psychotherapy and uses a strength-based approach with clients, reflecting on what works well for them and what skills they can add to and build upon. Traditional counseling is, at its most basic, a conversation between the client and therapist. Sharon lets the client lead the way, acting as a guide and teacher when needed, and offering suggestions and alternatives when they might be helpful. In addition to her formal education, Sharon has completed a year-long Energy Medicine Practitioner Training and is Level I Reiki certified. We continue our exploration of the Self Esteem Gospel with guest Sharon Hodde Miller about the popular idea "This Is Me". The “this is me” message has become popular in recent years and says that we are free to create our identity based on our feelings and desires, which should be unquestionably accepted by others. But, fundamentally, this message tells women to rely on themselves and their knowledge of themselves, instead of God’s, which included it in our season of the Self Esteem Gospel. Sharon and I talk about how our identity is actually rooted in Christ, not our desires, which will only lead to an identity on a faltering foundation of self. Throughout this episode, Sharon reminds us that freedom isn’t found in freedom from all external and internal expectations, or in creating our own identity, but in Christ alone. You're probably familiar with "near death experiences," in which people seem to visit the afterlife and then return to life. My guest this week is Dr. Sharon Prentice, who describes a related journey called a "shared death experience." This was a new concept for me, as I'm sure it will be for a lot of listeners, and made for a really fascinating discussion. Sharon also described the events in her life that laid the foundation for her shared death experience, and the ways it changed her understanding of the divine and what it means to die—and to live. Other topics we touched on from her book Becoming Starlight: A Shared Death Journey from Darkness to Light included: The author’s deep sorrow following multiple losses How life can beckon us back when we think we’re “done” Sharon's husband’s illness and gradual decline What a shared death experience (SDE) is Dreams of death The difficulty in putting an SDE into words The merger between life and death during an SDE Her mental and emotional state leading up to the SDE What happened during her SDE The effects of Sharon’s SDE on her subsequent emotions and beliefs How the SDE changed her relationship with and view of God What it means to be a “thought of God” The illusion of separateness from God How her SDE took away the fear of death The question of divine judgment after death Hell as the separation we create from God Here's the link to Sharon's book: Becoming Starlight. For more on shared death experiences, see this book by Raymond Moody, MD: Glimpses of Eternity. 6 years ago, Sharon Crawford was a busy online entrepreneur helping people with a powerful message take it into the world. The primary vehicle was through online multi-speaker events aka telesummits. In addition to producing and hosting 4 of her own telesummits, she provided telesummit training, consulting and conducted private healing sessions. Fast forward to the end of 2015. Financially, she was just getting by, living in a repressed area and trying to hold on to a house that was in need of major repairs. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't improve her living situation. She had hit rock bottom. She practiced gratitude and was able to stop herself from diving into darkness, yet she knew there had to be more to life than experiencing a pervasive sense of emptiness and numbness. Overwhelmed by debt and a life that had become much too small, she let go of 80 % of her possessions and dropped her house keys in the mail, leaving her home to the bank. She decided that living a life of joy would be her main priority going forward which would also mean overcoming her fears and taking a big leap of faith into the unknown. This past year was very different for Sharon. A year of travel, discovery, new friends and a lot of hiking in the Alps. She experienced some personally challenging yet extremely powerful opportunities for growth. After being in spiritual development for 2 decades and in personal development for 3 decades, she always knew she had her own message to share. In the beauty of a garden in the French alps while doing the mundane work of sanding and painting shutters, she began to receive inspiration. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Reason for hope when there doesn't seem to be any obvious solution The benefit of feeling what we feel The power of letting go and of TRUST while making firm decisions about what you want to experience Another way of 'figuring out' our purpose and how to live joyfully The reason people get so many great ideas in the shower Why sitting on a mountain may not be the best place to receive inspiration The flipside of mundane activity What is a workaway or work exchange?
