Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Halacha below was derived from multiple classes orated by Rabbi Eli Mansour in the Bekiim B'Halacha series. Click on any of the dates below to hear the original audio files, which are the sources for today's Halacha below. 04/23/25 ; 04/29/25 ; 05/05/25 ; 05/18/25 Can One Wear Tefillin on Top of a Hat, Bandage, or Scalp Cover—And When Is This Permitted? Tefillin Shel Rosh must sit directly on the head, without any barrier (hatssitsa) between the box or straps and the skin. But what if a person is cold, recovering from surgery, or must wear a bandage or other covering on the scalp? Are there exceptions in such cases? Must the Tefillin Shel Rosh Touch the Head Directly? Yes. According to the Shulhan Aruch (Orah Haim 27:4), the Tefillin Shel Rosh must be placed directly on the skull, with no hat, yarmulke, or material in between. This is derived from the word "bein einecha"—"between your eyes"—which the Rabbis understood as referring to a specific location on the skull that must be directly under the Tefillin. The box of the Shel Rosh (the bayit) and the knot at the back (the kesher) must both rest directly on the skin. The halacha considers anything in between to be a hatssitsa, which invalidates the Misva. What If There's a Medical Condition or Bandage? If someone has a medical bandage, stitches, wound, or skin sensitivity, and it is difficult to wear Tefillin directly on the scalp, he may still put on the Shel Rosh over the bandage—without a Beracha. This is a ruling based on the principle of safek Berachot lehakel: when there's doubt about whether a Beracha is appropriate, we refrain from reciting it. Hacham Ovadia Yosef writes that one may rely on the view of the Rashba, who held that the Beracha is still valid even if the Tefillin rests on a hat or covering. However, since most Poskim disagree, the person should wear the Tefillin without a Beracha. Does This Apply to Cold Weather or Wind? Yes, but only under specific circumstances. If a person feels unwell or is sensitive to the cold and is unable to remove his hat, he may place the Tefillin on top of a thin head covering. Again, he should do so without a Beracha. If the person can tolerate it, even for just a few moments, it is best to briefly remove the hat or covering, place the Tefillin correctly, and then replace the covering in a way that doesn't interfere with the box or the straps. Some wool hats or fitted caps can be gently pulled over the bayit once it's already in place. Can Women Assist Someone with Head Tefillin Placement in These Cases? Yes. In cases where someone is physically unable to reach the correct spot—due to illness, age, or surgery—others may assist with positioning the Shel Rosh. The Halacha permits assistance by another Jew, even a woman, when the individual is still fulfilling the Misva himself. The helper merely aids in placing the Tefillin properly. What About Wigs or Toupees? A wig is considered a hatssitsa. If the wig is removable, the person must take it off before donning the Tefillin. If it cannot be removed or causes embarrassment, and it is worn tightly and habitually, some authorities may allow the Tefillin to be placed over it without a Beracha, similar to the case of a medical wrap. Summary - Tefillin Shel Rosh must touch the scalp directly—no hat or cloth may intervene. - If this is not possible due to medical or health reasons, one may place it over a covering without a Beracha. - This leniency applies to bandages, surgical dressings, or cold weather gear only when absolutely necessary. - Wigs are generally a hatssitsa, unless removal is not practical. - Whenever possible, the Tefillin should be worn in the standard way, even for a short time, to fulfill the Misva with a Beracha.
Send us a textTalking to children about hair loss and cancer Lauren MacClain was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40, when her children were from 5-10 years old. Her and her husband wanted to find the best way to speak to their children about what would happen during her treatment, and found that the books that were available didn't quite explain different areas of treatment very well.Lauren had to wait over the xmas period to get her biopsy results, which was a scary time. After having a mastectomy, they found that it had spread to one of her lymph nodes which meant she needed to have chemotherapy.Lauren found out about scalp cooling whilst she was researching treatments and decided to try it, as she had been warned that the chemo she needed was very dose-dense and can cause permanent hair loss (PCIA). Because of this, she managed to retain around 50% of her hair, and it grew back quickly afterwards. She has now written 3 children's books explaining cold caps and chemotherapy treatment, to help families explain to their children what is going on in an easy way.Connect with Lauren:InstagramBooksPaxman scalp cooling Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the showConnect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!

In this episode of After Reality, I dive into the explosive controversy surrounding Mel Owens, the newly announced Golden Bachelor. To set the stage, I share a clip from Mel's recent podcast interview—originally brought to light by my friend and go-to scoop expert, Reality Steve.Mel's remarks have caused quite a stir. He openly stated his preference for women aged 45 to 60 and shockingly admitted to the show's executive producer that “if there's 60 or over, I'm cutting them” (his words, not mine!). He even referred to it as an “NFL term.” If that wasn't enough, he expressed a desire to “stay away from artificial hips and wigs” and emphasized how important it was for a partner to have a fit “profile” to match his own active lifestyle.Steve joins me in the hot seat for his take on this unfolding drama. He breaks down the backlash sparked by Mel's comments and discusses how a clip from Claire and Emma's Love to See It podcast quickly went viral. Steve also highlights the tricky spot ABC is now in—casting women over 60 would contradict Mel's stated preferences, while casting younger women could undermine the entire premise of The Golden Bachelor.I also had to call in a very special guest for his perspective: my dad, Papa Robertson. Having found love again after 39 years of marriage, his insight is as personal as it gets. Papa Robertson didn't hold back, calling Mel “a bit tarnished” and questioning whether The Golden Bachelor is the right platform for him. This episode takes a hard look at Mel Owens' comments, their implications for the Golden Bachelor franchise, and whether ABC should consider recasting its lead. Join me for a juicy discussion, a fast hot take from Reality Steve, and my dad's relatable wisdom as we unpack this developing story! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Meanwhile, Anna Wintour finally takes her bob and glasses and exits Vogue—but who's snatching the throne? Justin Bieber keeps crashing out, Simon Guobadia was deported but is living life in Dubai, Cardi B says September is finally the month (again), and a tragic influencer story leaves us speechless. Rob Madge grew up staging living room musicals with wigs, smoke machines, and the unwavering support of their parents and grandmother—but what started as childhood play eventually became the viral, heartfelt, and Olivier-nominated solo show My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?). In this episode, Rob shares how those home videos evolved into a theatrical sensation, and how a show born during lockdown has become a powerful celebration of queer joy, family, and radical acceptance—now heading to New York City Center for its limited U.S. debut. We talk about everything from queer theory and comedy as activism to being a theater kid in a small UK village and why their grandmother was the ultimate co-conspirator. Rob opens up about the emotional weight of visibility, the importance of letting kids be themselves, and the unshakable confidence that comes from being loved early and completely. Plus, they reflect on their journey from Gavroche to leading their own story—and the joy of tweaking the show for each new audience. Rob Madge is a writer and performer whose solo show My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?) earned an Olivier Award nomination following its West End run. They began their career as a child actor in Mary Poppins, Oliver!, and Les Misérables, and trained at Sylvia Young Theatre School before studying English Literature at Warwick University. Episode Overview: In this episode, John Kitchens sits down with operations expert Joel Perso to unpack the one thing that separates thriving agents from the ones stuck spinning their wheels: execution. They reveal why most real estate entrepreneurs are great at starting but fail at finishing—and how to break that cycle with a proven system that scales. If you're serious about winning in 2025 without burning out or sacrificing profitability, this is the episode you need. Key Topics Covered: The Real Reason Agents Struggle to Execute Why most entrepreneurs are starters, not finishers—and how that stalls growth. The "solopreneur trap" and the dangers of doing everything yourself. How lack of clarity and shiny object syndrome kill momentum. The 4 Disciplines of Execution What it means to focus on the “wildly important goals” (WIGs) in your business. The power of lead measures over lag measures—and how to take control of your results. How to keep a compelling scorecard and implement real accountability that sticks. Mindset Shifts for High-Level Performance Developing a true "can-do" attitude inside your business. Why progress > perfection and how to keep momentum rolling. Operational Systems That Scale How execution is different from daily operations—and why both matter. The secret to building once and managing forever (with the right team and scorecard). Why investing in people who manage is a game-changer. Inside “Boardroom”: A Hybrid Coaching Model That Actually Delivers How John and Joel designed a system that combines clarity, strategy, accountability, and implementation. The difference between coaching and actual execution support—and why you need both. What makes their two-week cycle model so powerful for real estate entrepreneurs. Actionable Takeaways: Narrow your focus: 1–2 critical goals per quarter is the sweet spot. Track the right metrics: Emphasize what you can control, not just results. Install a cadence of accountability. Surround yourself with people who complement your genius zone—and manage what you start. Don't just invest in leads. Invest in the systems and people who help you finish what matters. Wigs and Heels
Episode 196: Dog Wigs - TikTok Review
Our story tonight is called Valentine's at the Inn, Part Three, and it is the finale of the three-week series of the same name, and also the much-awaited sequel to the story called The Secret Stair, released last Halloween. For those of you who actually hear the stories, and don't get me wrong, your sleeping is what's most important here, so I never mind if you don't hear a word, but for those who do, I apologize for making you wait so long to find out what was up that secret stair at the Inn. And then I made it a three-parter, and put it right at the end of the last part. Yup, guilty. I think it wants to be a book. Anyway, small disclaimer that some things actually happen in this episode, but I'd bet that I'm still going to knock you out if I haven't already. This story is also about the crosshatched top of peanut butter cookies, the sound of a vacuum cleaner running in the distance, a desk and straight-backed chair by the window, and a plan for something new in the Village of Nothing Much. We give to a different charity each week, and this week, we are giving to Wigs for Kids. Wigs For Kids is a nonprofit organization that helps children experiencing hair loss work together with a stylist to build the self-esteem and self-image they deserve.
