The "BPR" podcast discusses the art of radical health & athlete design. Created with the coach/trainer in mind, these conversations are centered around the practical application of coaching the complete client. The host, Spencer Nix, holds a master's degree in neuroscience & applied cognition as well as being a gym owner for 15 years. He has traveled the world coaching coaches. His facility (also called Behavior & Performance Research) serves as a "test kitchen" for all the protocols, tools and frameworks discussed.

    In this episode, we are joined by Derek Toshner. Coach Derek is an accomplished mountain man and coach who believes that training for hard things helps us find a greater purpose. He uses all-terrain/functional fitness to help athletes build a foundation of strength first (to avoid injury), and then layers in endurance once that foundation is well established. The final layer of Derek's program is mindset training to provide the motivation to push through the difficult moments that always come when doing something as hard as 29029. Derek was a 5x NCAA national champion in track and field (3x 400m hurdles and 2x 4x400m relay), and competed at the USA World and Olympic Team Trials from '03 to '05. Derek is a StrongFirst Certified Master Instructor and the Co-Founder, with his brother Ryan, of TNT Fitness Results. Some of his notable physical accomplishments include 297 reps on the Secret Service Snatch Test, 211 reps on the US Secret Service Snatch test with 32kg, 500lb ring, and amp middle finger deadlift, 400lb single non-dominant arm deadlift, 205lb get-up, and SFG Snatch Test with 40kg. Derek has also climbed Aconcagua, South America's tallest peak, and Denali, North America's tallest peak. In summary, Derek is a badass. Enjoy the episode!
