Depressed, overwhelmed and lethargic, Jason was taking antidepressants and statins and had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a fatty liver. In January 2019, he saw a picture of Bilbo Baggins, the main character from The Hobbit films, running through the shire with the words ‘I'm going on an adventure'. Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Become a nutrition coach w/ SUF NC working alongside RD's to build you team and streams of revenue.Torey Berry, SUF instructor talks about her success with having an RD on her team. Most personal trainers talk about nutrition all day and still leave money and results on the table. We want the opposite: clear boundaries, better outcomes, and a real nutrition coaching offer that clients happily pay for. That starts by putting a Registered Dietitian on your team so you can stay in your scope of practice while delivering higher-level support. We dig into how this looks with real clients, including a PCOS and prediabetes scenario where insulin resistance and blood sugar response matter. You'll hear why the goal is not “no carbs,” but smarter carbs with more fiber, better structure, and the right context. When an RD drives the nutrition strategy, clients get safer guidance, trainers stop guessing, and the coaching conversation becomes more credible and more effective. From there, we lay out the business model: how we introduce the RD, when we bring nutrition into the coaching timeline, and how we price tiered packages that include consults, weekly logs, and optional meal plans. We also talk systems for scaling without burnout, plus creative add-ons like bringing in a private chef to teach cooking and prep so clients can actually execute. Finally, we get tactical about networking: what to say when you email or DM a dietitian, how to interview for fit, how bartering can work, and how to loop in medical weight loss doctors to build a referral network that benefits everyone. If you want to separate yourself in a crowded personal training market with a professional team approach, press play, then subscribe, share this with a trainer friend, and leave a review.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? In this episode, Doug Larson and Dr. Mike Lane sit down with Rami Alhamad, founder of Alma and former creator of Push, to explore how AI is changing nutrition coaching and performance tracking. Rami shares his background in engineering, strength training, and startup building, including the journey of creating Push, the velocity-based training platform later acquired by Whoop. The conversation covers how that experience in sensors, data, and coaching systems led him toward a bigger problem: making personalized nutrition guidance dramatically easier and more useful for real people. They also dig into what makes Alma different from traditional food trackers, including logging meals by voice, text, and photos, along with coaching features that help users spot patterns and make better decisions without getting buried in manual data entry. The second half of the conversation expands into the bigger picture of AI in coaching, health, and business. Doug, Mike, and Rami talk through how tools like wearable integration, supplement tracking, micronutrient guidance, weekly coaching summaries, and coach dashboards can help people stay more consistent while giving coaches better visibility with less friction. They also discuss the future of AI in human performance, why great coaches are more likely to be amplified than replaced, and how the real opportunity is using these tools to automate low-value tasks while preserving the high-trust human relationship that makes coaching effective. For coaches, athletes, and performance-minded listeners, this episode offers a practical look at how AI can improve nutrition and decision-making without losing the personal element that matters most. Sustainable fat loss isn't about perfect macro tracking, crash dieting, or extreme restriction. It's about building habits you can actually maintain when life gets busy. In this episode of Beast Over Burden, Niki Sims and Andrew Jackson sit down with Barbell Logic coach Jeremiah Wicken to break down what sustainable fat loss really looks like from a coach's perspective. You'll learn: • Why sustainable fat loss is different from traditional dieting • The role of protein, vegetables, and hydration in managing appetite • How to reduce decision fatigue around food • Why monitoring habits improves long-term weight maintenance • How nutrition coaching builds systems that work under stress Sustainable fat loss requires structure, awareness, and consistency — not perfection. Nutrition coaching can be incredibly helpful, but it has limits. Amanda, Kelsey, and Lauren talk about scope of practice: what nutrition coaches can do, what we can't do, and why those boundaries exist in the first place. The discussion walks through how Black Iron coaches support clients through nutrition education, behavior change, and lifestyle habits, while also recognizing when something falls outside the role of a coach. Topics include the differences between dietitians, nutritionists, and coaches, how state regulations shape what different credentials allow, and why working within those boundaries protects both clients and professionals. The episode also covers the warning signs coaches watch for: medical concerns, signs of disordered eating, psychological red flags, or expectations built around extreme diets and quick fixes. Sometimes these situations simply require collaboration with other professionals. Other times they mean referring someone to a medical provider or therapist who can better support what they're dealing with. Scope of practice is about making sure people get the right support from the right professionals so their health, safety, and long-term progress come first. Send a textWhat if the very thing you were told would “ruin” your health was actually the moment everything clicked? In this powerful conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with Allyson Hurley, a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, and longtime probation officer, to unpack how mindset—not restriction—is the true driver of lasting health change. Allyson shares the now-famous “cheesecake moment” that forced her to confront years of rigid food rules, marathon overtraining, and chasing outcomes instead of behaviors.Together, they explore why weight loss is often the wrong target, how diet culture quietly shapes identity and self-talk, and why motivation isn't something you either have or don't—it's something you design through systems and environment. Allyson also draws compelling parallels between probation work and health coaching, revealing how motivational interviewing and behavior change science apply to both personal freedom and physical wellbeing. This episode challenges black-and-white thinking around food, fitness, and self-worth—and replaces it with a sustainable, compassionate approach to building healthier habits for life.If you've ever felt stuck in the cycle of restriction, frustration, and “starting over,” this conversation will change how you think about progress.
Last week, I shared something that challenged the norm:I no longer believe it always takes 3–6 months to change behavior. In this episode, I go deeper. If meal plans worked then why do we need to keep giving them week after week…If detoxes create momentum, then why do our clients go back to eating junk after the detoxes are over?If accountability is important, then why do our clients continually go through the shame spiral?And....Why do clients still go back to the same food? Why does the same pattern repeat — often at the same time, with the same trigger, and the same emotion? After 15+ years as a board-certified health coach, yoga teacher, hypnotherapist, and somatic practitioner, I realized something critical:Health coaching often focuses on behavior, recipes, and food allergy elimination. But cravings are formed at the memory level. In this episode, I share: • Why clients relapse after detoxes because of old memories • The “path in the grass” metaphor that explains automatic habits • How emotional relief gets attached to specific foods • My own struggle with French fries and white-knuckling discipline • The moment I realized discipline wasn't the issue • Why pattern interruption is the missing layer in the coaching industry • How ancient wisdom + neuroscience changed my approachIf you've ever wondered:“Why isn't this sticking for my clients or me?” “What am I missing since my clients keep sabotaging themselves?” “Am I a bad coach?”You are not alone. You're not missing willpower. You're missing the pattern interruption. The recoding.Next week, I'll break down how cravings are actually formed in the brain — and why changing one key element can collapse the entire pattern. In This Episode You'll Learn:• Why is behavior the last step in the change process • How repetition creates automatic “paths” in the brain • Why white-knuckling never creates lasting freedom • The emotional layer beneath recurring cravings • How combining yoga, hypnosis, somatic work, and energetic healing creates faster resultsFor Health, Nurtirion And Wellness Coaches & PractitionersIf this episode stirred something in you — pay attention to that. There is a deeper way to support clients. And over the next few episodes, I'll continue unpacking the layer most coaching programs never teach. If you want to connect directly, send me a message at
