I jumped into the studio with Zach Laing to recap everything the Oilers got done on day 1 of NHL free agency. And after losing yesterday's attempt at the podcast, the boys ended up actually having more to talk about than they did yesterday. From getting a pair of new goalies to trading Darnell Nurse, Stan Bowman was able to get a bunch of work done without breaking the bank on any of it. And for a fanbase who has been hurt more than once in free agency over the last few years, it's hard not to feel as though the organization absolutely nailed this one.

We're still a couple of days out from the NHL Trade Deadline, and Stan Bowman pulled off another trade to move Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 1st round pick in 2027 to the Chicago Blackhawks for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. I gave my first take on the trade, read Nation Citizen feedback, and tried to figure out how this move fits into the larger puzzle.

Despite beating the Red Wings 4-1 last night, the Edmonton Oilers pulled the trigger on a Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak for Tristan Jarry and Samuel Poulin trade with Pittsburgh. Despite being the better team, the Oilers were outworked for most of the first two periods, setting up another incredibly frustrating loss. And what started as a day filled with hope ended in a disappointing finish that should have been avoided from the start.
