Maryann Liess, or better known, as Fifi di Foofi on our Fasting Highway Facebook page, lives close to the city of Frankfurt in Germany. In this episode Fifi talks about her journey into obesity after the sudden and very unexpected death of her beloved father. She began to focus on caring for her mother, who was suffering from dementia and her three teenage children. During these years, Maryann says she lost herself and become engulfed in the act of caregiving. Her weight went from normal to morbid obesity in a relatively short period of time. After being confronted with several photos and home movies from the past, Maryann was reminded of a time that she was comfortable in her own skin and content with herself. She hadn't felt this way in 15 plus years. In fact, she was ashamed of what she had done to her body and who she had become. But through these old photos and movies, Maryann found the spark that ignited her motivation to at least try and return to a healthy weight. She has been doing alternate day fasting ever since. After only 10 months, Maryann has lost an amazing 57 kilograms or 125 pounds! For years, she believed that mid-life weight loss would be extremely difficult, especially for perimenopausal and menopausal women. Maryann is living proof that that notion is just a fallacy"". It's a great week for first issues, and in the face of strong, high end contenders, the Pick of the Week (which is not wrong), is a bit of a left turn. Do we have a strong pro-Kang bias? Absolutely. All that's important is 1) Doom and Kang on a train and 2) Shaner ascendent. Put that in the bank. It's hot! In February! Oh boy, here we go! On this week's show, Conor Kilpatrick loses his faculties in the winter (!) heat, while (not a) Dr. Ryan Haupt steps in for a mysteriously missing Josh Flanagan to discuss this week's comic books, the properties of various gemstones, and COVID-19. Is it the best book in recent memory? It might be. Is there a lot of good stuff giving us a lot of laughs? Yes. Does the laughing get uncomfortable at one point? That depends on who you are. Was that a dog barking? Who can say? Is there any point to this synopsis any longer. No, definitely not. We talk and talk and talk and talk, which is good, because it's kind of the point, and you get this super-sized show, despite the month plus of weird comic weeks. It's possible Phil Noto stopped by (he didn't), and Josh's dog makes a cameo. And then we keep talking. Conor thought it was 5 years ago. Listen for any of that to make sense. Go with the Flo Would you like to test knit a worsted weight hat for me? PM me on Ravelry! Life in Focus I talk more about my 2019 plans, 2 major goals, and the habits I'll be employing to help me get there. Other things I keep in mind: Your past is your teacher not your fortune teller (what can you learn from previous attempts, failures etc) What can/what do I need to cut out? We often need to prioritize our goal over other less important things. Get clear about that up front. Think ahead to what challenges you'll face and think about how to get around that. Make a list of my fears. Writing them down helps! Be ok with failure. Learn from it and move on. If I miss one day or one workout or one healthy meal, get right back on track at the next possible opportunity. "Growth is not in perfection, but in quickening your recovery time when you inevitably act contrary to your highest interests." – Neil Strauss How I Track Progress Weekly Evernote Note. List Quarterly, Monthly and Weekly Goals at the top. Then start a To-Do list for the week. The "to-do's" I add can be removed, moved to the next week or completed as I see fit. Plan each week on Sunday, look at the calendar and plot out my open time. Daily journaling of progress I'm making towards my two goals- paired with my existing habit of writing down my daily plan for water/food and movement. On a Happy Note Had a lovely visit with my dear friend Laura over the New Year's Holiday weekend Watching: The Affair, Season 4. Escape at Dannemore. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Leah Remini; Scientology the Aftermath, Ray Donovan. The Mule (in theater) Purging and clean out after the holidays! New workout area I set up in the cellar! Tree still up! Quote of the Week Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. – Calvin Coolidge ------ Thank you for tuning in.
