There are no Edmonton Oilers games until Friday, which meant today's episode of Oilersnation Radio was spent looking at what's to come and what's been happening over the first quarter of the 2024-25 NHL season. This week, the boys discussed the Oilers' scoring woes, what's happening with Hyman and Arvidsson, and a whole lot more. The guys started the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the scoring issues and whether we should be concerned about any of the struggling players. Whether it's Viktor Arvidsson's mysterious injury, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' struggles or Jeff Skinner's being in the coach's doghouse, there are a few players who need to pick it up, whether we're worried about them or not. Changing gears, we looked at some of the other news that's happened over the last few days, including Vasily Podkolzin's first goal as an Oilers, the injuries to Hyman and Arvidsson, and we also looked at Darnell Nurse's first game back after the hit by Ryan Reaves last week in Toronto. Despite no games until Friday, we still got a lot of Oilers news over the last few days, and we took the time to cover it all. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a flurry of random topics, including another rant about the Oilers not needing John Gibson, who will play in net for Canada at the 4 Nations Face Off, some betting talk, and when we think Stuart Skinner will get his save percentage back above .900. Even without playing since Saturday, that didn't mean the boys didn't have plenty to talk about to fill an hour.

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. We started this week's episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about training camp and what we're predicting as the biggest surprise to come out of the warm-up period. Whether it's Vasily Podkolzin winning the Ty Rattie award, Josh Brown securing a spot on the opening day roster, or Travis Dermott securing a contract, the boys were tossing out their boldest takes on what we think will happen in the coming weeks. Changing gears, we looked at the news from this past week that both Evander Kane and Darnell Nurse will miss the start of training camp (and beyond) due to some injuries they're still working through. Even though we knew that Kane was likely to miss some time, finding out that Nurse will miss some time early is a significant blow to a d-corps that is not exactly the deepest. Sticking with the defence, we also said farewell to Markus Niemelainen after signing a deal to play in Berlin after spending the last six years in the Oilers organization. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Even with training camp just around the corner, the boys still managed to yammer on for over an hour about everything in the world of hockey despite nothing happening quite yet.
In the final hour of the show, DJ played Kind of Easy Trivia for a $25 GC to Mr. Mikes and the boys answered Three Questions Too Many for Park Mazda. Jeff Paterson from Rink Wide: Vancouver joined the show to discuss Vancouver Canucks and gave his scouting report on Vasily Podkolzin. Dusty and Lt. Eric had another edition of Scalding Hot Takes for Clayburn Services. The show wrapped up with The Wrap for William Huff, featuring the awarding of the A&W Text of the Day!

I'm back from vacation, and the Oilers spent the week wheeling and dealing, so I had plenty to talk about in this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.I started this week's podcast with a quick recap of my vacation to Toronto. It was incredibly relaxing until I ran into some travel delays. From seeing blink-182 again to Niagara Falls to driving around the city, I got up to a lot despite not being there for very long. That said, I think a week in the 6ix is my absolute limit, and I think it's important to add that it's incredibly nice to be back in Edmonton. Just me? Possibly.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I started the news with a look at the Broberg/Holloway offer sheet situation that reached its conclusion yesterday morning. After a week of waiting, speculation, and a handful of moves by the team, the Oilers opted not to match the Blues' offers on their young players, and I wanted to talk about why they chose to let both guys walk. I also looked at the other trades that happened this past week, including the Cody Ceci deal everyone's been waiting years to see and the trade to bring in Vasily Podkolzin from Vancouver. Despite being in August, this last week was a spicy one for the Oilers.Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk, an RSB about airline travel, and worked through another round of voicemails that were all over the map yet again. The good news is that today's voicemails were a mixed bag of topics, which is always fun from my side of the microphone. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.
Former 10th overall pick Vasily Podkolzin is an Edmonton Oiler. With the defending Western Conference champs opting NOT to match either offer sheet submitted by the Blues, new GM Stan Bowman made a splash by acquirig Vasily Podkolzin from the Canucks for a 4th round pick.Check out the updated CanucksArmy store here: https://nationgear.ca/collections/can...

Welcome to another exciting episode of Oilersnation Everyday. The Oilers had a busy Sunday and they prepare to make a decision on the Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg offer sheets from the St Louis Blues. The first trade came earlier in the day when they acquired Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks for a late round pick. The conversation immediate sparked to him being the replacement for Holloway, but will that be the case? David Quadrelli from Canucks Army joins the show to discuss what Podkolzin's time with the Canucks and how he can impact the Oilers lineup. That wasn't it though for the Oilers. Later in the day, Cody Ceci was traded to the San Jose Sharks, along with a third round pick, for defenceman Ty Emberson. The move freed up a ton of cap space for the Oilers, which now makes the next day intriguing in regards to the future of Holloway and Broberg.Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin go live at noon to discuss everything that happened yesterday. What did you think of the moves? The guys want to hear from you so leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Greta Bar YEG YouTube live chat throughout the show. Interact with Tyler and Liam as well as your fellow Nation Citizens in the chat.
Bik and Brook dive into Nathan Rourke's underwhelming return against the Blue Bombers. They are also joined by the Canadian Press' Gemma Karstens-Smith to discuss her experience at the 2024 Paris Olympics and discuss Vasily Podkolzin being traded to Edmonton. Seattle Sports' Shannon Drayer joins to talk the Mariners ups and downs this season and previews their series against the Dodgers. Dominic Sramaty hosts SN Today and is joined off the top by Canucks play by play commentator Brendan Batchelor to discuss the signing of Daniel Sprong over the weekend for the canucks and predict where he might fit within the lineup as Vancouver now boasts a plethora of depth wingers. Later hear a segment from Halford and Brough earlier today as insider Rick Dhaliwal joined the show to give his insights into what the team continues to look for this off season and then Dom breaks down what realistic expectations from Vasily Podkolzin are for this upcoming season. It all comes down to this. The Canucks and Oilers will duke it out in Game 7 with the winner advancing to the Western Conference Final versus the Dallas Stars. Frank Seravalli from @daily_faceoff joins us to share an update on the Brock Boeser blood clot injury. We discuss the lineup tinkering, as Vasily Podkolzin comes out, with Sam Lafferty and Ilya Mikheyev drawing in. Will the Canucks be able to limit McDavid and Draisaitl at even strength and on the powerplay unlike Game 6? How will they make life more difficult for Stuart Skinner. We look back at what went wrong in Game 6 and how it can all be applied differently in Game 7. Matt and Blake discuss the Canucks' 6-3 loss in Vegas and whether it's time to worry. Difficult night for Elias Pettersson, Ian Cole, Casey DeSmith, Nikita Zadorov and others. They talk about the hard-charging Oilers and first place in the division, the Canucks' poor form since the all-star break (especially against good teams), Pettersson's pointless nights, officiating, missing Thatcher Demko, and whether Noah Juulsen is one of their six best defencemen.Patrick Johnston joins and says he's worried, especially about Pettersson. He talks about Demko's timeline for return, whether DeSmith should've been pulled in Vegas, the power play, the star players, Rick Tocchet begging players to step up, the team's lack of run-and-gun and more recently, lack of gun, and flashbacks to the 1992 & 1993 Canucks.Irf Gaffar stops by and says it's no mystery as to who needs to give more. He takes us through injuries and timelines for return on Demko, Elias Lindholm, plus guys like Hronek (and Pettersson?) playing through injuries. Cole, Juulsen, Vasily Podkolzin, Arshdeep Bains are also covered. Matt and Blake pull a Seinfeld. A show about nothing after the Canucks do jack squat at the NHL Trade Deadline. The guys discuss what the Canucks didn't do in terms of not acquiring a player, nor signing Phil Kessel. They talk about whether they should have beaten the price Winnipeg paid for Tyler Toffoli, missing out on Jake Guentzel, and Jason Zucker. Other topics include: bargain prices for teams with cap space & the Canucks' lack thereof, not wanting to go 'all-in' and sell the farm, not moving on from Ilya Mikheyev earlier, Vegas loading up and the means by which the Knights could load up, and Vasily Podkolzin up/down and role going forward. Jeff Paterson (Rink Wide: Vancouver) stops by to say he was surprised and disappointed that the Canucks didn't do more. Jeff cites the need for another scoring winger, the lack of 4th-line identity, the inability to add character players, the lack of quality available (in Patrik Allvin's eyes), Elias Lindholm's go-forward from here, needing Podkolzin to play a role going forward in his analysis. We hear from GM Allvin at the Rogers Arena podium, and we go To The People and hear from listeners/viewers on Canucks-related topics. Presented by Applewood Auto Group. Matt and Blake discuss the latest trade deadline rumblings and the arms race igniting in the West. Canucks' exploration of a Elias Lindholm for Jake Guentzel deal, Vancouver's interest in Arizona winger Jason Zucker, Vasily Podkolzin being sent down, the Avalanche adding Sean Walker and Casey Mittelstadt (while parting with two B.C. boys), the Oilers adding Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick, Vegas getting Anthony Mantha, the Kings positioning themselves, a buyer's market shaping up (great for Vancouver) are all topics. As are the 2-1 overtime win in L.A., the miraculous Thatcher Demko save, Petey & J.T. stepping up when needed, and the boring Kings style. Darren Dreger jumps on to discuss the "salacious" report about a 3-team deal with Boston and Pittsburgh involving Lindholm & Guentzel. Dreger says the Canucks are still checking in on the defence market but won't likely be bringing an ex-Canuck winger back. He comments on the Canucks being aggressive, the shaping-up of a buyer's market, targets with term such as David Savard and Frank Vatrano, what's happening in Calgary with ex-Canuck Jacob Markstrom and Noah Hanifin, and his thoughts on the Canucks' glorious season to date and chances in the postseason. Frank Corrado hops on and says the Canucks now "must" trade Lindholm. That word leaking that they are exploring a Guentzel deal using Lindholm as bait means genie is out of the bottle and there's no going back, Frank evaluates why Lindholm hasn't worked out, Guentzel's fit, the prices paid for Anthony Mantha and Vladimir Tarasenko, and the availability of Vatrano, Savard.
