Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by Hall of Fame defenceman Chris Pronger for a jam-packed interview. To kick things off, Pronger weighs in on Dylan Larkin's reported desire to leave Detroit and discusses potential landing spots for the 29-year-old star centre. While he sees a fit in Toronto, Montreal, and several other markets, Pronger stresses that acquiring a player of Larkin's calibre would come at a significant cost—especially in a weak free-agent class. From there, Pronger reflects on his experience interviewing for the Maple Leafs' President role and shares his thoughts on the direction of the organization under John Chayka. He believes winning the draft lottery was a massive boost and likes several of the moves the Leafs have made since Chayka took over. The conversation then shifts to David Pagnotta's report that Toronto and Montreal had a Matthew Knies trade completed at the deadline before complications prevented it from being finalized. Pronger isn't convinced the Leafs were getting enough value in the reported package and cautions against moving a player like Knies unless the organization is committing to a full-scale rebuild. In his view, if you're trading Knies, you need proven NHL talent coming back—not just futures.Pronger also discusses Auston Matthews' influence on the franchise moving forward, suggesting the Leafs likely have two separate long-term plans: one with Matthews and one without him. Plus, he weighs in on what Toronto should do with the No. 1 overall pick, the ongoing coaching search, and whether he believes the Leafs can get back into the Stanley Cup Playoff picture next season.

On this episode of the STL Bucket List Show, we sit down with NHL legend Chris Pronger to talk about his new book Earned and the mindset that shaped one of hockey's most dominant careers.Pronger breaks down what “earned” really means to him — from making it to the NHL, to becoming a leader, to sustaining success through discipline, accountability, and consistency. He reflects on his early career struggles, including being booed on home ice, and how adversity helped build the resilience that defined his legacy. We also dive into his deep connection to St. Louis, a city he's called home for over two decades, and why the Midwest culture and community continue to make it special for athletes long after their playing days.Beyond hockey, Pronger opens up about his transition into life after the NHL — from working in front offices, to entrepreneurship, broadcasting, public speaking, and ultimately finding purpose in teaching others through real-life lessons. He shares how his book came together through storytelling, speeches, and years of lived experience. This episode is packed with leadership insights, mindset shifts, and practical lessons on accountability, failure, and betting on yourself. They discuss: - What “earned” means in sports and life - Overcoming early career adversity in the NHL - Leadership, standards, and accountability - Life and community in St. Louis - Transitioning out of professional hockey - Entrepreneurship and finding purpose post-career - Writing Earned and lessons from the book - Betting on yourself and handling failure

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' potential playoff opponents, injury updates, Connor McDavid's willingness to carry this team forward, and more.I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the renewed beef between Chris Pronger and Kevin Lowe after the former's new book came out and shed some light on what went sideways in Edmonton. If you take Pronger at his word, the decision was made solely on trying to keep peace in his family. From Kevin Lowe's standpoint, however, his description of those events didn't really hold water. Changing gears, I looked ahead at the Oilers' playoff position and how wild it is that we still don't know who Edmonton will play or where they'll start, with only a single game left on the schedule. Combine that uncertainty with the unknowns of when some key players will be back in the lineup, and you've got the makings of a very nervous fanbase around here. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about fake spring before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was very quiet this week, but I had a great time with everyone's takes landing all over the place. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better. Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!

Chris Pronger is in da house!!! A Stanley Cup Champion with the Anaheim Ducks, Pronger was the backbone of one of the most punishing blue lines in modern NHL history. He’s a member of hockey’s elusive Triple Gold Club, capturing Olympic gold with Team Canada, a Stanley Cup, and a World Championship. During his time with the St. Louis Blues, Pronger reached the peak of individual dominance — winning both the Hart Trophy as league MVP and the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenceman in the same season, a rare feat for a blueliner. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Pronger was a cornerstone of Canada’s golden era on the international stage — trusted in every critical moment, against the world’s best. Known for his physical edge, elite hockey IQ, and ability to control games at both ends of the ice, Pronger was one of the most feared players of his generation — a true difference-maker every time he stepped on the ice.His legacy was cemented with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and remarkably, he reached the Stanley Cup Final with three different franchises — a testament to his impact wherever he played.
