Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal digs into the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 win over the Red Wings of Buffalo Game Overview: The Oilers celebrated a satisfying victory, with the team showcasing a solid performance against the Detroit Red Wings. David and Kurt noted that the game felt secure once the Oilers netted their third goal, with the team effectively shutting down any potential threats from their opponents. The hosts emphasized the importance of managing fatigue, especially during back-to-back games, which can significantly affect player performance. Zach Hyman's Comeback: One of the standout performances in the game came from Zach Hyman, who scored a hat trick. Kurt pointed out that Hyman's recent struggles stemmed from a wrist injury sustained during the playoffs last year, which raised concerns about his ability to return to form. However, his performance in this game suggested that he might be regaining his previous prowess. David recalled a moment from a prior game where Hyman demonstrated improved wrist strength, hinting that he could be back to his old self. Hyman's contributions are crucial for the Oilers, especially as the team looks to enhance its scoring depth. The Importance of Team Dynamics: David and Kurt highlighted the synergy between Hyman, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl, noting how their on-ice chemistry resulted in beautiful plays. One example discussed was Hyman's first goal, which was set up by a remarkable pass from McDavid, demonstrating the patience and vision that elite players possess. This discussion underscored the significance of teamwork and communication in achieving success on the ice. Evan Bouchard's Performance: The podcast also touched on Evan Bouchard's contributions and the criticisms he faces regarding his defensive skills. While both hosts acknowledged his offensive talent, they agreed that Bouchard needs to improve his defensive play, particularly during crucial moments. David recounted a story from Gary Galley about Ray Bourque, emphasizing that great players often take risks to make exceptional plays, which can lead to turnovers. This analogy served to frame the discussion about Bouchard, suggesting that while he may have defensive lapses, his offensive capabilities are invaluable. Conclusion: The Oilers' recent victory showcased not only individual brilliance but also the importance of teamwork and resilience. Zach Hyman's return to form is a promising sign for the team, as is the continued excellence of McDavid and Draisaitl. Additionally, while Bouchard's defensive play may need refinement, his offensive contributions are vital for the team's success. As the season progresses, monitoring these players' performances will be crucial for the Oilers' aspirations.

On today's episode, the guys discussed the Oilers' inability to close games, Connor McDavid's 1100th NHL point, Evan Bouchard's struggles, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate over what has caused the Oilers' inconsistencies through the first 14 games of the year. Whether it's a lack of killer instinct, the inability to put in a full 60 minutes, or a lack of physicality, it's incredibly frustrating that a team this talented struggles to live up to the level everyone expects of them. Regardless of what frustrates you, there are plenty of issues happening with the Oilers right now that are completely fixable. Changing gears, we kept the breakdown going of Tuesday's loss against the St. Louis Blues. Starting with the defence making life more difficult than it needs to be with their lack of physicality in front of the net. Are the Oilers' defenders too soft when players are in their goalie's face? Changing gears, we looked at Jack Roslovic starting to settle into his role in the top-six, which prompted a conversation about whether the Oilers should look at an extension. Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia, including some Oilers vs. Utah-specific questions ahead of tonight's game. If you listened to the last two weeks, you'll know that BM was way off on one of the questions, which prompted Liam to take on the role of trivia marshal and auditor. Did Baggedmilk get his questions right? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Powered by @bet365. Whatever the moment, it's Never Ordinary at bet365. This was presented by Spectrum Rent All. What are the fellas confessing today..? To finish off hour one, the fellas got Fired Up for Gemco Fireplaces! Who fires up the Oilers, how do they get more fired up in games? That's exactly what the boys discussed.

Darren Dreger was the first guest on today's show. He first touched on the Blue Jays falling in the World Series! And then it was all Oilers talk. He gave his thoughts on the ever polarizing Evan Bouchard. We then took a look at several teams in the Pacific and then previewed tonight's matchup as the Oilers take on the Blues. It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. After the break, we got right into MMMMMM That's Good presented by The Italian Centre Shop! Ironically, what this guy did was not good. If you caught a home run ball from the opposing team, would you throw it back or keep it? Mike Tanier capped off hour two with his initial thoughts on the World Series. He then recapped all the major headlines from yesterday's games and preview tonight's Monday nighter.
It was a wild weekend in the sports world, and the boys are here to break it all down on today's episode of Oilersnation Everyday! We'll start with the elephant in the room — the Toronto Blue Jays heartbreak. After dropping both Games 6 and 7 of the World Series, the Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending an incredible playoff run. We'll get Tyler's reaction to the loss and talk about what went wrong in the final two games. Then, we'll shift to the Edmonton Oilers, who picked up a 3–2 OT win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. Edmonton's stars stepped up when it mattered — Connor McDavid led the way with three points, Leon Draisaitl added a goal and an assist, and Evan Bouchard redeemed himself with the OT winner after his rough outing versus the Rangers. Stuart Skinner was solid too, stopping 27 of 29 shots on his 27th birthday. After the recaps, we'll turn our attention to tonight's matchup against the St. Louis Blues, getting you set with all the lineup info, game notes, and betting insight in our Bet365 Game Day Betting Challenge.Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/OilersNation/ https://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/oilersnationdotcomhttps://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime on Saturday night. The powerplay tallied twice and Evan Bouchard scored the overtime winner. Ryan Rishaug, Jason Strudwick & Rob Brown break it down.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers losing three of four, some recent milestones on the roster, David Tomasek's first NHL goal, line combos, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Evan Bouchard's rough night against New York, and whether anyone is worried about what was a miserable evening for No. 2. While there's no doubt that Bouchard didn't play well against the Rangers, being too concerned about him this early in the year probably doesn't make sense either. That said, he definitely needs to play better given the minutes he commands, and it will be interesting to see if he faces any supplementary discipline like Darnell Nurse did a couple nights before. Continuing with the breakdown of the last few games for Edmonton, the Oilers blew a two-goal lead against the Rangers on Thursday, which was incredibly disappointing and frustrating given how they had dominated the game early. In the span of just under four minutes, the Oilers went from being up by two goals to being in a tie game. Even with a late power play opportunity, the boys couldn't get the job done. To make matters worse, the comeback didn't happen because the Rangers were shooting the lights out, the loss happened because the Oilers cannot stop making 10-bell mistakes. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With the 2025-26 season well underway, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode discussing a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that's what happens at this stage of a new campaign.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!Powered by @bet365. It was a tough night at Rogers Place for the Edmonton Oilers, who blew a two-goal lead and fell 4–3 in overtime to the New York Rangers. After a strong second period, the Oilers collapsed late, allowing three unanswered goals in the third and OT. Stuart Skinner stopped 30 of 34 shots but left fans wishing for one more big save when it mattered most. We'll recap the entire game with our scoring summary and take a closer look at some of the critical turnovers from Evan Bouchard that helped fuel the Rangers' comeback.Later, we'll be joined by Hart from PuckPedia to break down how the Oilers will need to navigate the salary cap once Zach Hyman returns, and explore what it would take for Edmonton to acquire a goaltender like Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from the Buffalo Sabres. To close out the week, we'll share our NFL weekend bets for Bet365 and welcome Lisa Evans from The Sauce for a Halloween-themed Friday Fun Zone!
Chris Johnston was the first guest on today's show. He joined donning a Blue Jays Max Scherzer jersey as he previewed what's on tap for him tonight. Then it was all Oilers talk. What the heck happened last night, what's going on with Evan Bouchard, and what's the plan going forward. Chris had all the answers. It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. After the break, we dove into MMMMMM That's Good presented by The Italian Centre Shop! Halloween, Friday night and a potential World Series winning game. Doesn't get any better than that. MMMMMM That's Good indeed. NFL insider, Mike Garafolo capped off hour two. He touched on last night's Thursday nighter and Lamar coming back from injury. Then, previewed all the big games remaining in week 9. He finished with all the latest news and rumours on this year's trade deadline.

Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee open the show with thoughts on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s momentous home run to help the Blue Jays tie up the World Series at 2-2. Jason Gregor, host of The Jason Gregor Show, dives into Edmonton's win last night over the Mammoth and the state of the team 11 games into the season. He zeroes in on the concerns surrounding Evan Bouchard, which netminder provides more confidence, and Paul Coffey's departure for the organization. After the break, the boys take a closer look at how to view Logan Cooley and Thomas Harley's long-term extensions in the NHL's changing contract landscape. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Alberga, Hahn, Meaney and Jensen take a ton of mailbag questions from concerned fantasy managers through the first few weeks of the season. They take a look at the defenseman landscape to find replacements for injured Shayne Gostisbehere, discuss the surprising Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers and whether Emmitt Finnie has staying power for the Detroit Red Wings. Other topics covered include Brad Marchand's hot start, whether to panic about slow starts for Alex Ovechkin, Evan Bouchard, Matvei Michkov, Dustin Wolf, St. Louis Blues players, Jackson LaCombe and more. Then, in "On the Money," the guys go through some leanings and prop angles for the rest of the week, including players who are overdue for their first goal of the season.
Jonathan Toews scores his first as a Jet and shows he’s still got plenty left in the tank, while Mark Scheifele looks like a man on a mission to make Team Canada. In Vegas, Jack Eichel’s new contract hasn’t slowed him down one bit—he’s leading the league in points as the Golden Knights roll to the top of the Pacific. Vancouver’s dealing with tough injury news as Filip Chytil lands in concussion protocol after a heavy (and possibly late) Tom Wilson hit, and with Lekkerimäki also sidelined, the Canucks may be forced to hunt for centre help. In Toronto, Easton Cowan sits while Max Domi gets a top-line look, and goalie Anthony Stolarz’s public comments about defensive lapses & effort spark some chatter in the room. Meanwhile, in Edmonton, the Oilers head into Ottawa suffering through another sluggish start to a season, with Evan Bouchard struggling mightily and Connor McDavid looking surprisingly human so far. Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Kurt Leavins and David Staples of the Edmonton Journal dig into Edmonton's 4-2 loss to the Islanders of New York.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' season opener, Thursday's matchup against the Islanders, line combos, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the start of the Oilers' road trip through the first two games in New York. While the Oilers did beat the Rangers, it wasn't exactly their best performance. When it came to the Islanders, the boys made so many mistakes that it would have almost been a miracle had they been able to pull off the win. The good news is that many of the errors that led to that loss are fixable, and the boys all expect the team to be better going forward.Continuing with the breakdown of Thursday's loss, the boys wanted to give Stuart Skinner some love for his work last night even though the stats would suggest he wasn't as good as he was. Had it not been for Skinner, that loss to the Islanders would have been way worse than it ended up. From there, we offered our first impressions on Jack Roslovic. Even though he's only played two games with Edmonton so far, it's tough to get an accurate read on the player when he's trying to get up to speed after missing training camp and the pre-season.Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week. With the 2025-26 season underway, the guys spent the bulk of the Friday episode discussing a range of topics, some related to the Oilers and others not, but that's what happens at this stage of the new year. The guys got this all covered for you on this edition of The GCL Diesel Oil Stream Postgame Show right here on Edmonton Sports Talk.
