The piece doesn't just critique the team—it takes a direct run at number 97, questioning his leadership style and aggressively asking: Should Connor McDavid even be the captain of the Edmonton Oilers? Gager and Tommy pull no punches as they dive headfirst into this massive debate. Is this critique completely unhinged journalistic malpractice, or is there a microscopic kernel of truth about what this room needs moving forward?  The Roster & Rallies: Gager gives his raw, unfiltered perspective as a former NHLer on what McDavid brings to the table, how the room views him, and why turning on a generational superstar is a dangerous game for local media to play. Finally, we got Craig's take on the Vancouver Canucks' massive staff shakeup over the past week before wrapping up with his thoughts on the Eastern Conference Final.  It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day.  In the middle of the hour it was time for the boys to give some Free Advice for Damon Bunting.  Eric Macramalla capped off hour two with his thoughts on the Habs moving on to the Eastern Conference Final and shared his expectations for the upcoming series. On hour one of Flames Talk, Pat Steinberg and Logan Gordon are joined by Flames play-by-play voice Derek Wills for his first appearance in a month. The crew takes stock of a quiet start to the offseason in Calgary, discussing the decision to bring back the entire coaching staff on two-year extensions and the lingering frustration of dropping to sixth overall in the draft lottery. With Kris Knoblauch officially out in Edmonton, the guys break down Stan Bowman's decision to move on and the reports linking the Oilers to Bruce Cassidy. Bruce Cassidy to Edmonton? | The Knoblauch Rift & Oilers Chaos | 2 Guys & A Goalie  The temperature in Oil Country has officially reached a boiling point. Just weeks after a shocking first-round exit at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks, the rumors of a total organizational overhaul are no longer just whispers—they are headlines. Dusty and Gager are diving headfirst into the bombshell reports that have the hockey world in a frenzy.  On today's show: The Bruce Cassidy Pursuit: Reports from Frank Seravalli and other insiders have confirmed the Oilers have sought permission to interview former Stanley Cup winner Bruce Cassidy. We discuss the "gamesmanship" currently playing out as the Vegas Golden Knights reportedly withhold permission for their divisional rival. Is Cassidy the "hired gun" the Oilers need to finally crack the code? Where did it go wrong for Knoblauch?: Kris Knoblauch took this team to back-to-back Finals, but after an "average" 2025-26 season and a rumored rift with GM Stan Bowman, the ice has never been thinner. We break down the reports of friction between the bench and the front office regarding lineup decisions and why the "connection" in the locker room seems to have evaporated. Contender or Pretender?: Does hiring a tactical, direct coach like Cassidy suddenly make the Oilers a Cup favorite again, or is Craig Button right that no coach can fix the "glaring holes" in this roster? We debate if this is a masterstroke move or just a desperate attempt to fix a management problem with a coaching change. The Core's Reaction: How would Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl feel about another new voice behind the bench? With only 700 days left on the captain's clock, we discuss if the stars are on board with a coaching carousel or if they are looking for stability and roster upgrades instead. The "Chiarelli 2.0" Narrative: We take a hard look at Stan Bowman's tenure and ask if these aggressive coaching moves are a sign of a focused leader or a GM trying to find a scapegoat for a roster that has regressed.  2 Guys & a Goalie is presented by GS Construction!Â
The Bowman Audit: A Disaster in the Making? | The McDavid Clock | The Oil Stream Is the championship window in Edmonton being slammed shut from the inside? Today on The Oil Stream, Dusty and Tommy are taking a flamethrower to the last two seasons as we conduct a full forensic audit of the Stan Bowman era. From the moment he took the keys to a Stanley Cup finalist, many argue the trajectory has been a straight line down—and the data is starting to back it up. On today's show: Peter Chiarelli 2.0?: We take a look down memory lane to analyze how we got here. Was the "patient" approach actually just a cover for a lack of vision? We compare Bowman's tenure to the darkest days of the Chiarelli era and ask if the Oilers are repeating the same catastrophic mistakes. The Hall of Shame (Worst Moves): We break down the moves that have set this franchise back, including: The Goaltending Gamble: Trading away Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak for Tristan Jarry—a move that has backfired spectacularly as Jarry struggled to an .858 save percentage while Skinner flourished in Pittsburgh. The Offer Sheet Fiasco: Revisiting the loss of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to St. Louis. Did Bowman's hesitation cost the Oilers two vital young pillars? The Deadline Depletion: Discussing the trades that sent away 2026 and 2027/28 first-round picks for rentals and aging veterans like Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy. The "Concerned" Core: We revisit the chilling exit interviews from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. With the superstars calling the team "average" and expressing genuine concern, we ask if management has already lost the room. Offseason Crossroads: What happens now? With rumors of a rift between Bowman and Kris Knoblauch reaching a breaking point, we debate who survives the summer. Can the Oilers afford to let the same man who "messed up the trajectory" be the one to lead the free agent frenzy? On-Ice Needs: From the desperate search for a starting goalie (is Connor Ingram the answer?) to the impossible task of moving Darnell Nurse's contract, we map out the "must-haves" for a successful summer. Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are back with another offseason edition of Oilersnation Everyday, continuing to break down the end of the season for the Edmonton Oilers. The guys will continue discussing possible offseason trade ideas and explore which contracts Edmonton may need to move if they want to become serious contenders again next season. From trade candidates to potential buyout discussions, there are plenty of questions surrounding how this roster could look heading into next year. There are also still major questions surrounding the futures of head coach Kris Knoblauch and general manager Stan Bowman. The season has been over for more than a week, and no major organizational changes have been made. Does that mean both are safe heading into the summer? Or could a move still be coming?Later in the show, former NHL forward Landon Ferraro joins to discuss the remaining playoff series around the NHL and the latest surrounding potential coaching changes across the league. The boys will also have a fresh edition of Liam's Board and hand out some daily betting picks courtesy of Bet365.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' first-round exit, what changes to expect in Edmonton, line combinations, injury updates, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about who out of Stan Bowman, Darnell Nurse, Tristan Jarry, and Kris Knoblauch will be around next year. Given that there will be plenty of changes over the summer, the guys looked at the four most talked-about names and took a few swings at who they think will be around when October rolls around. That led to a debate about which of those guys are likely to be around, not because they're necessarily wanted, but rather because contracts make it likely. Shifting gears, the boys looked at Evan Bouchard being snubbed from being a Norris Trophy finalist. As you'll hear, Rick was very passionate about No. 2 not getting a nod for the award, and how it seems unfathomable that the year he had wasn't worth being named as one of the NHL's three best defencemen. The fellas also discussed Connor McDavid's Hart Trophy nomination and how Liam thinks it's all but a guarantee that he wins the award. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Hot and Cold Performers to look back on the week that was. With the playoffs firmly underway, the guys spent the bulk of the podcast moving through a range of topics, most related to the Oilers' off-season, some not, but that's the way things go on the Friday episode of ONR.
Is the "meat grinder" in Edmonton about to claim its biggest victims yet? The 2025-26 season hasn't just ended; it has imploded, leaving the Edmonton Oilers at a crossroads that could define the franchise for the next decade. Dusty and Tommy are back to navigate the wreckage of a week that has seen superstars sound the alarm and insiders predict a total organizational overhaul. Â The Firing Line: Insider Frank Seravalli has dropped a bombshell, stating it is "more likely than not" that Kris Knoblauch and his entire coaching staff are headed for the exit. We discuss whether Knoblauch is the fall guy for a roster that Connor McDavid called "average," or if a fresh voice is the only way to spark a turnaround. Bowman Under Fire: The heat isn't just on the bench. Many are asking if Stan Bowman has "messed up the trajectory" of this team in record time. With the front office also reportedly up for a "reshape and restructure," we debate if Bowman survives the month or if ownership is ready to hit the reset button on management. The Bouchard Robbery: How does a defenseman score 95 points and not even get a Norris nomination? Evan Bouchard has officially been snubbed from the finalist list (Dahlin, Makar, Werenski), and he isn't hiding his frustration, admitting the omission "stings." We dive into the "defensive narrative" that cost Bouchard a historic honour. "Concerned" & "Average": We revisit the chilling exit interviews from McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. With the core getting older and Draisaitl openly worried about the "big steps backwards," we ask: What is the actual plan to keep #97 in Edmonton past the next two seasons? Roster Post-Mortem: From the Darnell Nurse contract dilemma to the search for an elite goaltender, we look at the "addition by subtraction" moves that Seravalli and others believe are coming. Brace yourselves, Oilers fans. The "patient" offseason Stan Bowman promised might have just been replaced by a summer of absolute chaos. Â Dusty and Tommy have tons to discuss, with the fellas sharing some news and notes they picked up around Oil Country... Â The Oil Stream is presented by Boston Pizza!
The mood in Edmonton hasn't lightened much since the handshake line. Gager is joined by special guest Reid Wilkins today as the fellas sift through the fallout of a disappointing first-round exit and a bombshell morning of NHL awards news that has Oilers fans—and the locker room—scratching their heads.  The Norris Snub: The NHL officially announced the Norris Trophy finalists today, and Evan Bouchard was nowhere to be found. Despite leading all NHL defensemen with a staggering 95 points (60 at even strength), Bouchard was passed over for Dahlin, Makar, and Werenski. The boys debate: Did his defensive "lapses" truly outweigh a historically elite offensive season, or is there a genuine bias against the Oilers' blueliner? Edmonton Post-Mortem: It's been a heavy week of reflection. Reid and Gager recap the "concerned" and "average" comments from the stars and what they signal for the locker room's confidence. The Firing Line: We get into the latest rumblings regarding Kris Knoblauch and Stan Bowman. After taking what Leon Draisaitl called a "big step backwards," is a management or coaching change the only way to salvage the next two years of the McDavid era? Crunching The Numbers: We take a hard look at the roster, cap space, and the lack of assets. Is there a realistic path back to the Cup Final, or is the window closing faster than we thought?  Round 2 Pulse: The bracket is moving on without Edmonton. We recap the action from the East and West: Canes in Command: Carolina holds a 2-0 lead as they head to Philly for Game 3 tonight. Avs' Offensive Explosion: Colorado is looking unstoppable after a 9-goal Game 1 and a dominant Game 2. Sabres vs. Habs: Buffalo takes the early advantage in a battle of young Atlantic rivals.  2 Guys & a Goalie is presented by GS Construction!

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers getting bumped from the playoffs, a long summer ahead, pressure on Stan Bowman, and more.I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of what's been happening since the Oilers got knocked out in Round 1 of the NHL playoffs. With the exit interviews now behind us, the thing that stuck out to me the most was how honest the leadership group was with their assessment. Both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid gave incredibly honest feedback on where the team is, their concerns, and the timelines Stan Bowman has to turn this thing around. Needless to say, the pressure on the Oilers' management to get this right is as high today as it's likely ever been. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a pair of guest Righteous Sack Beatings, then closed out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week after the playoff exit, and I had a great time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better. Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!
The temperature in Oil Country has officially reached a boiling point. As the dust settles on a disappointing season, the focus has shifted from the players on the ice to the architect in the front office. Dusty and Tommy pull no punches in a raw, honest look at the state of the franchise.  The Bowman Audit: It's becoming painfully apparent that Stan Bowman has altered the trajectory of this team faster than anyone anticipated—and not for the better. We dissect his tenure so far, from the roster construction to the "patient" approach that seems at odds with the team's closing championship window. Moving On Is An Option: We ask the question everyone is thinking: Should Bowman be fired? We debate whether the Oilers can afford to let him make the crucial calls this offseason or if a change at the top is the only way to save the McDavid/Draisaitl era. A Franchise in Trouble: With the stars expressing "concern" and management preaching "minor tweaks," we look at the serious trouble brewing for the Oilers' future. What needs to change immediately to get this train back on the tracks? The Toronto Lottery Shocker: We shift gears to the massive news that broke the hockey world yesterday—the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the #1 overall pick. We react to the "divine intervention" that landed Gavin McKenna in Toronto and how that affects the power balance of the entire league. Looking Ahead: From the coaching staff's future to the looming Free Agent Frenzy, we map out the high-stakes summer ahead.  The Oil Stream is presented by Boston Pizza!
We kick off today's show with TSN Scouting Director Craig Button, who pulls no punches regarding the state of the Oilers. Following the raw honesty of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl's year-end comments, Craig breaks down why he believes the organization has taken a massive step backward under the leadership of Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson. We also put Kris Knoblauch under the microscope—is the bench boss officially on the hot seat? Once the dust settles in Edmonton, we head East to analyze the 'Toronto Takeover,' from the polarizing hire of John Chayka to the lottery shocker that landed the Leafs the #1 overall pick.  It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day.  After the break, we got into some Free Advice for Damon Bunting. The boys are always dishing out amazing advice.  We finished hour two off with Eric Macramalla with his thoughts on everything that has happened in Toronto over the past few days, the Habs and Sabres series and…?
Keith Pelley and the Toronto Maple Leafs held end-of-season media availabilities, with major questions around the team’s direction, Auston Matthews’ future heading into the fall, and Mats Sundin stepping into a new role. Ray and Dregs also dig into a busy stretch for the Department of Player Safety after another controversial slash, while the NHL Draft Lottery approaches with 11 teams eligible to land the first-overall pick. In Edmonton, Oilers end-of-season media availabilities brought blunt comments from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, raising questions about how Stan Bowman will respond. The guys also look ahead to Round 2 of the playoffs, including what to expect from Sabres vs. Habs as the gaps between teams continue to tighten, plus the latest on the Jack Adams race, Victor Hedman’s public statement, and the Western Conference matchups, where the Ducks could create real problems for the Golden Knights.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are back to break down a disappointing end to the season for the Edmonton Oilers, who fall 5–2 to the Anaheim Ducks in Game 6, eliminating them from the first round of the NHL Playoffs. We'll start with a full recap of the game, which saw Anaheim jump out to an early lead and never look back. On today's episode, the guys discussed their first impressions of Edmonton's new friends, the latest Oilers goalie drama, previewed Tuesday's matchup against the Avalanche, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Oilers' four pending UFA skaters, and how many of Adam Henrique, Jack Roslovic, Kasperi Kapanen, and Jason Dickinson will be back with the team next season. Given that there will be limited spots and dollars available, Stan Bowman will have some tricky decisions to make if he wants to bring more than a couple of these guys back for another tour.Changing gears, the guys discussed Evan Bouchard's heater that he's been on since the Olympic break, and how this run has forced his way into the Norris conversation whether people like it or not. The guys also discussed Bouchard's wild ab reveal that took the Internet by storm, and how it was one of those surprised that really caught Oilers fans off guard. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Tenable. It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' moves at the NHL Trade Deadline, previewed Friday's game against Carolina, line combinations, trade targets, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about why the Oilers just cannot seem to win a third game in a row. Despite having 12 opportunities to do so, the team has only won three times in a row once all season. While there's no specific explanation for the stat, Baggedmilk asked the boys to try to figure things out and put their finger on the problem anyway. Shifting gears, the guys looked at Leon Draisaitl's injury and wondered whether he'll be ready to go before the initial timeline. According to Stan Bowman, the team is hopeful that Draisaitl will be able to return before the end of the regular season and will not require surgery, but as you'll hear, the boys are cautiously optimistic. Either way, it will be fascinating to see how the final month or so of the season has played out. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' moves at the NHL Trade Deadline, previewed Friday's game against Carolina, line combinations, trade targets, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about whether or not the Oilers got enough done at the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline. Given that Stan Bowman's work all got done in the days leading up to the deadline, it's fair to wonder whether the Oilers added enough to keep up with the rest of the Western Conference. At the same time, one could argue that Bowman addressed some major roster holes despite the deals being relatively minor.Shifting gears, the guys looked at what is going to be a very tough handful of games for the Oilers, as they kick off a run of four against the Hurricanes, Golden Knights, and Stars. If ever there was a run of measuring stick games on the post-deadline schedule, this next week has to be it. While many Oilers fans were hoping for more, it's hard to argue that Bowman didn't pull trigger on a handful of players who could help plug some holes. We're still a couple of days out from the NHL Trade Deadline, and Stan Bowman pulled off another trade to move Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 1st round pick in 2027 to the Chicago Blackhawks for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. I gave my first take on the trade, read Nation Citizen feedback, and tried to figure out how this move fits into the larger puzzle.

While the Oilers may not have a ton of cap space available, the Connor Murphy trade showed that Bowman can get creative when it comes to moving his money around, and he'll need to do more of that in the coming days if he plans to find further upgrades.Changing gears, the guys looked at some of the news and transactions that have happened over the last week, including Andrew Mangiapane and Alec Regula clearing waivers. Seeing the Bread Man go through waivers is an unbelievable plot twist on what has been a rough go between the player and organization, and it will be fascinating to see what/if anything happens with him over the coming days. The guys also discussed the Oilers' dreadful run of defensive play over the last couple of games and wondered how much our new Connor can help stop the bleeding. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers at the Winter Games, Connor McDavid's debut, line combinations, Calvin Pickard's treatment, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Calvin Pickard getting waived unfairly after his agent spoke to Jason Gregor and suggested the team didn't make the right decision. If you take Rich Winter at his word, Stan Bowman isn't even sure that Pickard isn't the best goalie he has right now, but does that really make sense given the team's decision? The numbers would suggest not.Shifting gears, the guys looked at Team Canada's first couple of games on the men's side and how much fun it's been to watch NHLers back on the ice representing their country. From the way Team Canada blew out Czechia in their first game to the way they're handling Switzerland today, getting to watch the best of the best squaring off for their countries is so much fun.
