We are back with another edition of The Nielson Show right here on Edmonton Sports Talk! Today's show started off with lots of Blue Jays songs as we enter the dog days of summer.   Dusty then gave us a quick story about his game last night as coach… OUCH!   We then dove into Morning Announcements from 100.3 The Bear to recap some of yesterday's Tecmo action.   After the first sports update, it was then time for Offseason, What Offseason to discuss if the Oilers should pursue Klim Kostin and what are Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman trying to do to convince McDavid…   To finish off hour one, Lt. Eric guessed who are the MOP favourites so far in the CFL.

He gave his thoughts on Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson meeting with McDavid yesterday… He then touched on this year's free agents and how serious the Oilers should be in changing their goaltending tandem. He listed off a few goalies the Oilers could target… Noodles finished with his thoughts on Alexander Mogilny finally getting inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame!   It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day.   In the middle of the hour, it was time for Free Advice from Damon Bunting. Plenty of great advice on today's show.   To finish off hour two, Eric Macramalla joined the show to talk all things…? We did eventually talk some hockey, Macramalla shared his thoughts on McDavid's future in Edmonton.

Another Wednesday means another episode of Better Lait Than Never is wrapped up, edited, and ready to get you through what's left of the week. On today's podcast, we're discussing Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' heater, McDavid and Draisaitl's injury timelines, the #NationVacation to Vegas, and more.I kicked off this week's podcast with a random collection of topics that have happened since last week, including some of the books I'm reading, trying to learn how to use a 3D printer, and how I'm going to be a fancy boy at the Oilers game tonight. As you'll hear, your boy will be in a game-time situation that has only ever happened once before — or when I snuck in — and I couldn't be more excited.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I had to start with the heater Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been on over his last four games and how it's so much fun to watch my guy crank it up when the team needs him most. While the start of RNH's season wasn't the most productive offensively, the guy has really turned it on down the stretch. Same goes for Jeff Skinner, who, all of a sudden, has three goals in his last two games after getting bumped up the lineup with Connor and Leon out. Yet, based on the line combos from practice yesterday, our man Skinner could be back to his usual spot on the 3rd line against Dallas. The other story that popped around here this week was the quote from Stan Bowman on Hockey Night in Canada that expressed his confidence in the team's ability to re-sign Connor McDavid to an extension. While Bowman didn't get into any details apart from saying he felt confident they would get it done, the GM's words were music to the fanbase's ears. Sticking with contracts, Jacob Chychrun signed a massive extension with Washington yesterday, which led to a discussion about how that deal will affect Evan Bouchard's upcoming contract negotiations. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my trip to WEM before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. While the voicemail was quieter this week, the messages that did get left were very funny and all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to.

It's Tuesday afternoon, and a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is set, edited, and ready to massage your earhole. On today's episode, we discussed Evan Bouchard's next contract, McDavid and Draisaitl's injury timelines, Jeff Skinner, and much more. We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about a neighbour in Dan's hood who keeps running his diesel truck for extended periods every day. As you'll hear, the neighbour is clearly trying to troll his neighbours with his vehicle, which led the guys to offer a range of solutions, from calling the bi-law officer to being much more petty than that. As a bonus delicious debate, Tyler wanted to know how the Jacob Chychrun extension in Washington will impact Evan Bouchard's upcoming negotiation. Needless to say, it's going to get expensive. Changing gears, we looked at the updated injury timelines for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and how the Oilers will be without their two stars for (at least) the next three games. Given that the Oilers have some winnable games — Dallas aside — over the next week, it's not the worst idea to give the team's two best players a little some extra time to get healthy. The good news, however, is that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has caught fire over the last week or so, and having the secondary scorers start to warm up certainly helps the decision. The tricky part of the situation is that the secondary scorers need to keep chipping in.Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a discussion about Connor McDavid's contract extension after a quote from Stan Bowman on Hockey Night in Canada had the fanbase buzzing. We also walked through some NHL and CFL futures in our betting segment for bet365 before wrapping up the podcast with a round of keys to victory ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Dallas Stars. There is no better time in your week than when the notification comes through that a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never has been posted on your favourite podcast app. This week, we're discussing the Oilers' struggles, scoring issues, my trip to Toronto, and much more.I started this week's episode of BLTN with an explanation of why I'm recording a day early and what I'll be up to in Toronto over the next few days. As much as I enjoy living on a plane these days, the same can not be said for red-eye flights, which is what I'll be taking tonight to head out east. Will I sleep on the plane? Unlikely. Will I complain about it the entire time I'm in Toronto? Yes. Yes, I will. On the bright side, Survivor is back for another season, which means another handful of weeks where I get to swoon over my new hero, Jeff Probst.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started with a breakdown of Monday's loss to the Sabres and how it's truly puzzling that Edmonton continues to struggle against mediocre opponents. Despite starting hot as a pistol, our boys couldn't beat Buffalo's goaltender with any of their early chances, which seemed to put them in a funk. I also covered the fanbase's reaction to what Stan Bowman did at the trade deadline, and how it always makes me laugh how angry we get regardless of what the GM actually gets done. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were as entertaining as they were all over the map. The inbox was so funny again this week, and I got plenty of laughs from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

It's Friday afternoon, the trade deadline has passed, and now it's time to recap everything the Edmonton Oilers got done or didn't get done at the NHL's annual swap 'n shop. On today's show, we recapped the trade deadline, offered takes on our winners and losers, and took a deep dive into the three new Oilers Stan Bowman acquired over the last week. We started the episode of ONR with a delicious debate about whether or not the Oilers did enough at the trade deadline to keep pace with the arms race that happened in the Western Conference. Obviously, the expectations in Edmonton are sky-high after going to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, and the question will be whether Stan Bowman could have done more. While everyone on the podcast wished for more, no one was all that disappointed in the deals that actually got done. Looking at what the Oilers did get done, we looked at the three players Stan Bowman acquired and walked through what the team saw in each of them. For a team that was looking to add some truculence and puck-moving skills, these three new players will certainly help to accomplish that goal. Again, no one on the podcast is saying that the Oilers had a perfect deadline — they did not — but it also wouldn't be fair to call this a failure for the Oilers, given their cap and roster limitations. From there, we discussed the winners and losers and offered our takes on who did the best and worst at the NHL trade deadline. Whether it's the Canucks for failing to move Brock Boeser, the Los Angeles Kings for doing next to nothing, or Dallas Stars for locking in the best player of the day, the guys offered up their reasons for who were the best and worst. Finally, we wrapped up the episode with another round of betting talk, Ask the Idiots questions, and our Hot and Cold Performers.

With the Edmonton Oilers looking like a hot mess on the ice, there was plenty to discuss on this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never. On today's podcast, we covered the Trent Frederic trade, what to expect at the NHL trade deadline, frustration on the ice, and much more.I kicked off this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never with a random collection of topics, including what we have planned for Friday's trade deadline, workshopping gift ideas for myself ahead of my birthday, and offering another tale of being every day fancy. Even though this bit is just getting started on the podcast, I already love having you fine folks sending me DMs about times when you've scored amazing deals.Turning the podcast to the Edmonton Oilers, it's hard not to feel discouraged right now based on how shitacular the team is playing. Not only did the team lose its sixth game in their last seven tries last night against the Ducks, but they looked completely down and out without much fight to turn things around. Losing is one thing, but looking completely dejected while the tailspin is happening is another problem altogether. I also spent some time on the Trent Frederic trade, what Stan Bowman may do at the trade deadline, and much more. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about the trade deadline before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were all over the map. With only eight days until the NHL Trade Deadline, Frank Seravalli and Jason went through the Western Conference and what they believe each team could get up to in the next week. They start by discussing the Schenn brothers and the possibility of them both moving at the deadline – and maybe even reuniting for a playoff run.The Winnipeg Jets are trending to be big dogs heading into the playoffs. But will they be able to add to their winning culture, or will they ride the hot hand and stay put? On the flip side, the Seattle Kraken are on Year 5 and still don't seem to be trending in the right direction. What could they do to flip the script?Frank addresses the rumors surrounding Seth Jones and his connections to the Dallas Stars. They also dive into his comments to the media the other day about being unhappy with the Blackhawks' play after a disappointing loss to Utah. Taking a look into the Colorado Avalanche and their deadline plans, Frank and Jason chat about Gabriel Landeskog's health. They then talk about Minnesota's future and the need to boost their center position and powerplay. They believe Bill Guerin should look into Brock Nelson at the deadline. They then move over to the Pacific Division, starting with the L.A. Kings. How do they finally take the next step in the postseason? Could Mikko Rantanen be available and could he end up in Los Angeles?Frank then dives into the Utah Hockey Club and believes they could still make a serious push for the playoffs. Will Karel Vejmelka be moved at the deadline and if they don't make the playoffs does that guarantee a change of pace between the pipes? The guys dive into Calgary's deadline plans and what the Vancouver Canucks may be looking to do, Frank believes the Canucks would be open to almost anything thrown their way and are actively shopping Carson Soucy. Ty was sick, so Producer Patrick jumps in to ask a couple fill in the blanks questions for bet365. They talk about Schenn Brothers, the team most likely to make a big splash at the deadline and the best defenseman to be moved in the next week. It's Wednesday afternoon, and the Edmonton Oilers are struggling, which means there is plenty to talk about in today's episode of Better Lait Than Never. On this week's podcast, I discuss the Oilers' four-game losing streak, Leon Draisaitl's heater, trade deadline needs, and much more.I kicked off this week's podcast by thanking the Gords for snapping the streak of cold weather we've been battling in Edmonton over the last two weeks. It may be a small thing, but just being able to go outside and walk my dog this week has been a huge win. I also took listeners behind the scenes a little bit about what we're working on ahead of the trade deadline, including our Daily Faceoff Trade Deadline special.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, it doesn't take much searching to see how upset the fanbase is right now after a run of putrid games put the team on their first four-game losing streak of the season. It's not all bad news, though, as Leon Draisaitl continues to light the world on fire, and Matthew Savoie is looking like he could be a damned good player for a long time. That said, with only two weeks left until the trade deadline, a lot of us are getting antsy about what Stan Bowman may or may not do at the league's annual swap 'n shop. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a pair of guest Righteous Sack Beatings, before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were all over the map. The inbox was alive again this week, and I got plenty of laughs from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.

It's Monday afternoon, which means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is here to help us make sense of the world around us.The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by discussing the Super Bowl, which was one of the more boring finals we've seen in the NFL in some time. Seeing as the game was basically over after the second quarter, the guys talked about how easily they were distracted down the stretch. Their discussion of the Super Bowl led them to discuss their betting sheets and how the Kendrick Lamar halftime show could be the end of Drake. Changing gears, Wanye wanted to talk about the rumours surrounding the Dallas Mavericks and how the Luka Doncic trade could be part of a higher conspiracy. If you follow the rabbit hole down far enough, you'll see theories about the state of Texas wanting a casino to be built and how that could tie to the Mavericks being bad. Sticking with basketball, the guys also talked about Jimmy Butler getting traded to Golden State and signing a new deal for $121 million. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys looked ahead to the trade deadline and offered their thoughts on what the Oilers should be fishing for. Whether it's a defensive upgrade like a Noah Dobson or a scoring winger that pushes everyone down in the lineup, there is little doubt in any of the guys' minds that the Oilers need to do something more than nibbling around the edges. Either way, the pressure is on Stan Bowman to make something happen to ensure the team can take another step forward. Finally, the guys talked about their trip to Montreal that's coming up this week, and how they're excited to head east even though they'll only be at the 4 Nations for 39 hours. Seeing as Baggedmilk has never been to Montreal, heading to the historic city for such a short amount of time is probably not ideal, but it will certainly be a great time anyway.

Friday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to lead you into the weekend. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Jeff Skinner's spot in the lineup, Viktor Arvidsson's goal against the Blackhawks, Noah Philp being loaned to Bakersfield, and much more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Jeff Skinner's spot in the lineup and whether he's doing enough to keep himself in the top six. Given that the winger has played well over the last handful of games, will that be enough for Kris Knoblauch? Or will the Oilers' coach continue to mix up his lines in the hopes of finding the perfect fit? As you'll hear, everyone is cautiously optimistic about Skinner's game, but everyone is still a little gun-shy based on his usage so far this season.Changing gears, we looked at Viktor Arvidsson's big goal against the Chicago Blackhawks and whether that beautiful snipe gave us some excitement that could get his offence going. Given that the Oilers paid him a bunch of money to score goals, having only seven on the year is certainly concerning, but that also means there's more there than we're seeing. We also touched on the Oilers loaning Noah Philp back to the Condors ahead of the 4 Nations break and how it's important that he keeps playing instead of sitting around here in Edmonton. We then looked at some recent quotes from Stan Bowman regarding his plans for the trade deadline. As you'll hear, it sounds like the Oilers are seeking depth as opposed to a major acquisition, but there's also no way that he's going to tip his entire hand. When asked about the goaltending, Bowman gave his vote of confidence for his goaltending tandem after there's been a lot of noise about upgraded that position. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of the podcast with a random collection of topics, including some prop bets for Friday's Oilers game against the Avalanche, some Ask the Idiots questions from listeners, and Hot and Cold Performers to recap the best and worst moments from the past seven days. As always, the boys were all over the map with their answers, but that's the joy of opening up the end of the podcast for a little bit of shenanigans.

On this week's podcast, we discussed the Oilers' loss to Toronto, Kris Knoblauch's new line combos, NHL trade news, and much more.To kick off the first episode of ONR of the week, we started with a delicious debate about whether the Oilers have a goaltending problem and whether they should look at an upgrade between the pipes at the trade deadline. After a tough night for Stuart Skinner against Toronto on Saturday, the guys debated whether or not Stan Bowman should be looking elsewhere. While there was a lively debate about the topic, all of the guys still believed in Skinner but did agree that he needed to limit the highs and lows.Changing gears, we examined the Oilers' new line combos from yesterday's practice and asked everyone's opinion on whether this new trio would work. Before we even got through the first two lines, the conversation shifted to Viktor Arvidsson's lack of offence so far this season and whether that could result in him leaving town before his contract ends. We also discussed the first two games of John Klingberg and whether he's shown enough to make us look elsewhere for upgrades ahead of the trade deadline. We then ripped through all of the news that happened around here over the last week, including some trades that have happened around the NHL, betting talk for our friends at bet365, and Tyler's new NHL Trade Rumour segment. It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is recorded, edited, and ready to massage your eardrums. On this week's episode, the guys discussed Brendon Saad signing in Vegas,The boys kicked off the Friday episode of ONR by discussing Brendon Saad's signing with the Vegas Golden Knights. Given that there was some hope around Nation HQ that the Stan Bowman connection would lure Saad to Edmonton as a cheap free agent, it is slightly annoying that he wound up with a Pacific Division rival. As you'll hear, Rick didn't care that Saad ended up in Vegas, while Tyler and Liam made a case for how he would have fit in the Oilers' roster.Changing gears, we examined last night's 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings and how it was one of the more annoying losses we've seen recently. After a wonderful first period, the Oilers really duffed the second period with poor puck management, which allowed the Red Wings to get back in the game and fight their way to a win. We also looked at John Klingberg's Oilers debut and offered our first impressions on the Oilers' newest toy. Given that he hasn't played in over a calendar year, we all thought he played well in his first game and look forward to seeing how he progresses over the coming weeks. From there, we looked at the Oilers' quarter-century team for a total of 15 seconds, as no one on the podcast really cared about the rosters announced yesterday. If anything, the guys spent more time criticizing the Utah Hockey Club for ignoring their Coyotes and Jets history, while the current Jets included plenty of former Thrashers in their lineup. More importantly, Tyler walked everyone through the new cap numbers projected over the next three years and explained how this is fantastic news for the Edmonton Oilers. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of the podcast with a random collection of topics, including some prop bets for the Super Bowl, some Ask the Idiots questions from listeners, and Hot and Cold Performers to recap the best and worst moments from the past seven days. On today's podcast, the boys covered Evander Kane's surgery news, trade deadline rumours, Thursday's loss to the Penguins, and much more. We started the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Evander Kane undergoing another knee surgery. This will delay his rehab from former injuries and the timeline for his return to the lineup. While discussing the Kane situation, the boys became incredibly confused about the cap implications as none of them had a real idea of how this works. So, the question became whether the Oilers played this situation right or not. Did they screw up the whole situation?Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys covered a range of topics that have popped up over the last week. From trade rumours starting to pop up to wondering who Stan Bowman may chase at the deadline to reliving the Mattias Ekholm trade, the second segment of the Friday podcast was all over the map. Did the fellas solve anything? Not really. Did they argue about meaningless topics and moments? Absolutely yet. Finally, the boys wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot that featured some Oilers questions about topics you never expected to hear. It's Tuesday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your earholes and cover all of the biggest stories relating to the Edmonton Oilers. On this week's podcast, we discussed potential Oilers trade targets, Lauren Kyle opening a new bar in Edmonton, and much more. We kicked off the Tuesday podcast with a delicious debate about Frank Seravalli's new Trade Targets list, which dropped this morning at DailyFaceoff.com. We discussed whether there are any players listed that the Oilers should be interested in acquiring. Given that many Oilers fans would prefer that Stan Bowman acquire some defensive help is that the best approach to the deadline with few trade assets available? Are there any included forwards in Frank's list that would be worthy of exploring? From there, we dove into the past few days around Edmonton and recapped the Oilers' two big wins over the Anaheim Ducks and Seattle Kraken. Given that both teams are below them in the standings, it was interesting to see how much trouble the Ducks keep giving the Oilers even though our side ultimately won the rematch. Does it matter how the wins come if you're collecting two points? We also looked at other topics du jours, including Lauren Kyle's new business venture, Matt Savoie's recent AHL success, and a retirement announcement from an Oiler friend. Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with a discussion about tonight's game against the Boston Bruins. The Oilers were able to beat the Bruins in their first matchup of the season, but it will be much tougher if they're going to sweep the season series. Either way, we gave our keys to victory regarding what the Oilers need to do to beat the Bruins, and what habits they need to shed to make sure it's doable. Either way, the boys were feeling bullish.
