It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Mike Babcock press conference, Jason Dickinson's new deal, Connor Murphy re-signing, line combinations, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Mike Babcock press conference, and what everyone thought about our first look at the team's newest coach. While everyone was curious how today was going to go, what wasn't overly surprising was that Mike Babcock didn't really answer those questions with any honesty. Whether it was his refusing to admit faults in Columbus or tap-dancing some of the tougher questions, there are still plenty of unanswered questions that will only be solved in time. Shifting gears, the guys continued on with Babcock conversation by wondering what they think is most likely to come next now that the press conference is done. We got some free agents signed this week in Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy, but with free agency kicking off in just over a week, we're about to find out if having Babcock behind the bench will impact the calibre of player the Oilers might attract. While it was great that Dickinson and Murphy believed in the team enough to extend, that doesn't necessarily mean the same will be true for players who Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, the first edition of Reece's Game, which ended up being tennable, and a quick chat on what to expect from Canada's matchup against Switzerland at the World Cup. If Canada draws or wins, they will punch their ticket through to the round of 32. If they win, they will begin the round at home instead of having to travel abroad. Needless to say, the footy fever is alive and well at Nation HQ.

The NHL offseason kicked into overdrive as Brady Tkachuk was dealt to the Florida Panthers, creating a family reunion with brother Matthew while leaving the Senators armed with a haul of draft picks but little immediate help. The move reignited discussion about top American players leaving Canadian markets, a trend also reflected in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck situation as the Jets search for help down the middle and on defence. In Edmonton, the Oilers locked up trade-deadline acquisitions Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson to long-term deals while appearing poised to hire Mike Babcock, raising questions about whether a coach whose challenge in Toronto was getting the Leafs into the playoffs can now help a contender take the final step. Elsewhere, Jason Robertson’s contract talks in Dallas appear headed toward a crossroads, Buffalo continues to weigh its options involving Bowen Byram and Alex Tuch, and Toronto made a bold bet by acquiring and signing Darren Raddysh to a lengthy extension while trade speculation surrounding Matthew Knies continues despite questions about how moving a player of his calibre would actually improve the Leafs in their current situation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We got the third hour started with Mr Mikes Kind of Easy Trivia. It was then time for Three Questions Too Many presented by Park Mazda. Former Oilers netminder Joaquin Gage closed out today's show in classic Gager fashion! Before hitting the ice with his hockey takes, he gave the boys an unexpected, highly educational breakdown on the inner workings of household sump pumps. Once the basement was dry, we dove straight into the Oilers' weekend headlines. Gager shared his raw analysis on the Jason Dickinson extension and officially slapped a letter grade on the five-year deal. From there, he gave his unfiltered thoughts on the looming arrival of Mike Babcock behind the Edmonton bench. Finally, the former goalie reacted to the earth-shattering blockbuster out East, analyzing how the Florida Panthers landed Brady Tkachuk and trying to figure out where the Ottawa Senators possibly go from here. We finished the show like we always do with The Wrap from William Huff.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger dropped by to kick off the show and immediately took the temperature of Oil Country. Dregs breaks down the inner workings of Jason Dickinson's fresh five-year contract extension, unpacking the $4 million AAV, the risk of the term, and what it means for Edmonton's bottom six. From there, we covered all angles of the looming Mike Babcock situation—including an insider's timeline on when an official hiring announcement could drop. Plus, with the Oilers facing a massive salary cap crunch, Dregs gives us the latest on the Darnell Nurse trade rumors and management's blueprint going forward. Finally, we switched gears to react to the absolute blockbuster trade that shook the hockey world yesterday, as Brady Tkachuk heads to South Florida to reunite with his brother, leaving the Ottawa Senators searching for a brand new identity. It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. After the break, we got into MMMMMM That's Good presented by The Italian Centre Shop! What's good today is how unreal Justin Rankin's season has been thus far. We finished hour two with Offseason, What Offseason presented by GCL Diesel. YouTube Trev's trade of the day continues… and the nasties absolutely hated this one.
The Edmonton Oilers have made another significant offseason move, and Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are here to break it all down on today's episode of Oilersnation Everyday. The boys kick off the show by discussing the Oilers' new contract extension for Jason Dickinson, which will keep the veteran forward in Edmonton for another five seasons at a cap hit of $4 million per year. On the surface, the cap hit appears to be solid value for a player who has become an important part of the lineup, but is five years too much term for a player entering his age-33 season? Tyler and Liam will share their thoughts on the contract and hear what Oilers fans think about the deal. From there, it's time for another edition of The First Question, and there is no shortage of topics to cover. A massive offseason news episode covering both the NHL and NBA.Brady Tkachuk is heading to Florida, and I have some thoughts on this trade that might not be popular with Senators fans. I break down why I think Ottawa is actually better off long term, why I don't see Tkachuk as a true number one on a championship roster, and why this fits the Panthers perfectly. Then a run through of NHL offseason news and notes: the Oilers handing out contracts to Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson with very different grades from me, Bobby McMann signing in Seattle and what it says about the direction of the Kraken, a genuinely interesting trade between Buffalo and San Jose involving Michael Kesserling, and Colorado moving Ross Colton to Nashville in a deal that makes sense for both sides. On the NBA side, Oklahoma City trades Aaron Wiggins to Atlanta in a move that has almost nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with the tax bill. And the NBA Offseason Preview series continues with the Southeast Division, Washington with the number one pick, Miami's Giannis speculation, Charlotte building on a fun season, Orlando's fit issues, and Atlanta looking for that missing piece at the top of the roster. In This Episode:Intro (0:00)Brady Tkachuk traded (1:41)Oilers new Contracts (14:57)Bobby McMann Contract (20:06)Sabres/Sharks Trade (23:54)Predators/Avalanche Trade (27:23)Thunder/Hawks Trade (30:54)NBA Off-Season Preview: SE Division (33:50)Outro (44:45)

The Bowman Audit: A Disaster in the Making? | The McDavid Clock | The Oil Stream Is the championship window in Edmonton being slammed shut from the inside? Today on The Oil Stream, Dusty and Tommy are taking a flamethrower to the last two seasons as we conduct a full forensic audit of the Stan Bowman era. From the moment he took the keys to a Stanley Cup finalist, many argue the trajectory has been a straight line down—and the data is starting to back it up. On today's show: Peter Chiarelli 2.0?: We take a look down memory lane to analyze how we got here. Was the "patient" approach actually just a cover for a lack of vision? We compare Bowman's tenure to the darkest days of the Chiarelli era and ask if the Oilers are repeating the same catastrophic mistakes. The Hall of Shame (Worst Moves): We break down the moves that have set this franchise back, including: The Goaltending Gamble: Trading away Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak for Tristan Jarry—a move that has backfired spectacularly as Jarry struggled to an .858 save percentage while Skinner flourished in Pittsburgh. The Offer Sheet Fiasco: Revisiting the loss of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to St. Louis. Did Bowman's hesitation cost the Oilers two vital young pillars? The Deadline Depletion: Discussing the trades that sent away 2026 and 2027/28 first-round picks for rentals and aging veterans like Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy. The "Concerned" Core: We revisit the chilling exit interviews from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. With the superstars calling the team "average" and expressing genuine concern, we ask if management has already lost the room. Offseason Crossroads: What happens now? With rumors of a rift between Bowman and Kris Knoblauch reaching a breaking point, we debate who survives the summer. Can the Oilers afford to let the same man who "messed up the trajectory" be the one to lead the free agent frenzy? On-Ice Needs: From the desperate search for a starting goalie (is Connor Ingram the answer?) to the impossible task of moving Darnell Nurse's contract, we map out the "must-haves" for a successful summer. The Goalie Carousel: Tristan Jarry stood tall with 34 saves in Game 4, but that controversial OT winner has everyone talking. Loading Up the Top Line: With the offence sputtering at 5-on-5, is it time to put Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl back together? We look at the projected lines and consider if "The Nuclear Option" is the only way to save the season. It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I discussed the Oilers' Game 1 win over the Ducks, Jason Dickinson's brilliant night, Kasperi Kapanen's game-winner, and more.I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of Game 1 between the Oilers and Ducks after I found my way into the building despite not really thinking I'd go. As excited as I was about the playoffs being back, I was also nervous about the Oilers bucking the trend we've seen in series openers over the last few years. And while we ultimately got the result we wanted, getting that win was not without challenges. The good news is that the Oilers overcame the adversity they created for themselves, completing a third-period comeback to cash in on Game 1. Needless to say, I'd like to see the boys be a little tighter with the puck as the series rolls along. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was much more lively this week, and I had a great time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better. Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!
"O-Dog" Jeff O'Neill filling in for Ray Ferraro to discuss how Ottawa and Carolina delivered a double-OT thriller in Game 2 that’s being overshadowed by a bizarre series of events. An OT goal overturned on a questionable offside call, a dramatic penalty shot save and a redemtion of sorts on the eventual winner; the Sens are 0–10 all-time when going down 0–2 in a series, though there’s confidence they’ll respond at home after Ullmark’s stellar outing. In Edmonton, the Oilers won Game 1 over Anaheim with Leon Draisaitl and Jason Dickinson returing from injury, Dickinson and Kasperi Kapanen each scored twice and Connor Ingram stepped up with a solid effort and key late save. The Oilers managed their first win of the season without a Connor McDavid point, reinforcing the idea that contenders need multiple paths to win. Philadelphia seized control in Pittsburgh with a 2–0 series lead, mixing it up physically—including getting under Sidney Crosby’s skin—while Dallas evened things with Minnesota behind a strong Jake Oettinger performance despite missing Roope Hintz. Looking ahead, Montreal aims to build on a statement Game 1 vs. Tampa Bay, highlighted by Juraj Slafkovský’s hat trick and growing into a key complementary power presence alongside Caufield, Suzuki, and Demidov, while Buffalo looks to carry momentum from a stunning four-goal third-period comeback against Boston—but will need a far better start against a structured Bruins team.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' Game 1 win over the Anaheim Ducks, Jason Dickinson's brilliant playoff opener, and more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about whether the Ducks can hang with the Oilers after the visitors dominated the second period. While the Oilers had a fantastic start to the game, they really took their foot off the gas in the middle frame and nearly allowed the Ducks to steal one. While no one wanted to disrespect Anaheim, the boys thought the Oilers showed why their experience matters. Shifting gears, the boys dug into the details from last night's game, and how it was almost a tale of three games, depending on which period you're talking about. Starting with Edmonton's power play struggles, it was strange to see the boys struggle as mightily as they did with the full group back together. The good news is they'll likely be better than in Game 1. The guys also discussed Anaheim's settling into a hybrid trap system that wasn't really what they were doing for most of the season. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with a look at a run of different stories, including Adam Henrique going down in the first period, and what that means for the lineup going forward. The boys also looked around the NHL at the other playoff series and picked out some of the biggest storylines through the first few games.Whether it's some of the upsets in Game 1, likelihood of rebounding, or anything in between, there was a lot to discuss on the Tuesday episode of ONR.

But things quickly flipped in the second, as Anaheim responded with three straight goals to take control of the game. The Oilers didn't quit though, battling back in the third period with massive goals from Jason Dickinson and Kasperi Kapanen to secure a huge Game 1 win. Connor McDavid exploded for a hat trick and five points against San Jose, hitting 130 points for the third time and showing the next-level gear that elite players find as the playoffs approach. Injuries to Connor Ingram and Jason Dickinson added to the night’s storylines, although the severity of those injuries is not yet known. The Sharks, now hanging by a thread, looked like they couldn't quite meet the moment against a seasoned playoff team. In the West Wildcard race, the final playoff spot appears to be Nashville’s to lose with four games left, though the Kings lurk with an easier schedule and a game in hand. In the East, Columbus may be fading in its chase of Ottawa, where belief is becoming a real factor—Ray noting that if the Sens get even B+ goaltending, their overall strength should carry them. If you listen to this week's episode, the boys are asking for help with the bit. Sticking with TNN's suite of podcasts, the guys spent a few minutes discussing the network's shows and how the whole operation works.Changing gears, the conversation turned to the Masters and how Chalmers and Tyler were so excited for the tournament to get going. After the horrible spring we've had in Edmonton, the boys are using the Masters weekend as their kick-off point for their own summer of swing. As you'll hear, the Masters isn't just something to watch on TV, but rather a tipping point into a summer of golf. The point is, this is a big deal for 2/3 of the hosts. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with some Oilers talk about the team's magic number and what they need to do to win the Pacific Division. Starting with Connor McDavid's brilliance over the last two games, and how he's playing his best hockey at the right time of the year. Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are back to recap a massive 5–2 win for the Edmonton Oilers over the San Jose Sharks. It was a night to remember for Connor McDavid, who completely took over the game with a five-point performance, including a hat trick. McDavid was absolutely dominant, driving the play all night and leading the Oilers to a huge two points. Another big storyline was the power play finally coming to life, as Edmonton went a perfect 3-for-3 with the man advantage after struggling in recent games. However, it wasn't all good news. Connor Ingram left the game with an injury after the second period, forcing Tristan Jarry to finish things off in the third. Later in the game, Jason Dickinson was struck by an errant slap shot and had to be helped off the ice, not returning for the remainder of the game. After breaking down everything from the win, the guys are joined by DJ Bean to discuss the Oilers' recent run and the fact they now sit in first place in the Pacific Division with just three games remaining on the schedule. To wrap things up, Tyler and Liam will play the Percentage Game and take a closer look at the Pacific Division race as things tighten up down the stretch.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed their first impressions of Edmonton's new friends, the latest Oilers goalie drama, previewed Tuesday's matchup against the Avalanche, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the latest round of Oilers goalie drama, after some quotes from Bob Stauffer circulated on social media suggesting there was some frustration on the ice at practice. While some folks really believe this on-ice back-and-forth 0n the ice is a major issue, while others think getting into it is healthy when things aren't going so well. Either way, the only way to stop the noise would be for the team to start winning.Changing gears, the guys discussed their first impressions of the Oilers' new friends now that they all have a couple of games under their belt. Starting with Connor Murphy's ability to defend, it's been refreshing to watch a guy take care of his own end first. They also spoke about Jason Dickinson's defensive abilities, and how he actually moves better than everyone expected. While the Oilers only won one of the two games played, it was nice to see the new guys finding ways to contribute. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Baggedmilk's Trivia. With none of the other boys coming up with a game of their own, the guys went back to old faithful with a round of Avalanche-related Baggedmilk Trivia questions. Think you know your Oilers vs. Avs history? This round of trivia was for you. Did the quizmaster have to step in? Did Baggedmilk get his questions right? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
A relatively quiet trade deadline was highlighted by the surprising move of longtime Capital John Carlson to Anaheim, where the Ducks leaned further into building an offensive identity. Calgary GM Craig Conroy provided late day drama by sending Nazem Kadri back to Colorado as he chases another Stanley Cup. The Flames also moved Mackenzie Weegar earlier in the week and now sit on a large stockpile of draft picks as they rebuild with a new arena waiting in the wings. Several notable names stayed put, including Robert Thomas in St. Louis and Colton Parayko who declined a trade to Buffalo. Nashville’s Ryan O’Reilly and Steven Stamkos, and goalies Sergei Bobrovsky and Jordan Binnington also stayed with their current teams despite the rumour mill. Toronto sold off pieces like Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, and Nic Roy while keeping Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Montreal held firm despite exploring a bigger hockey deal as their young playoff window opens. Edmonton added Connor Murphy and Jason Dickinson earlier in the week, but with Colorado loading up and Dallas and Minnesota looming, whoever survives the Pacific could still face a Western Conference buzzsaw.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're still a couple of days out from the NHL Trade Deadline, and Stan Bowman pulled off another trade to move Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 1st round pick in 2027 to the Chicago Blackhawks for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach.
