Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed living on a cruise ship, the death of happy hour, Oilers vs. Kings, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Jay's Australian stock pact with Dooks, communication via random DMs, and anything else that happened to be on everyone's mind. Talking about social media made the guys wonder if it would be fun to live on a cruise ship. As you'll hear, the start of the Thursday episode of Real Life was all over the map.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys looked ahead at Game 6 and what the team needs to do to close out this series. After earning the chance to close out a fourth consecutive first-round win over the Kings, the Oilers must come up with their best game of the series to punch their way through to the next round. From playoff Mattis Janmark coming through in the clutch to Evan Bouchard's redemption, to Calvin Pickard locking things down, there are plenty of reasons to be bullish about the team's chances.Looking around the rest of the NHL, the guys discussed the rest of the series and how the storylines from the first round continue to make this the best round of the playoffs. They then discussed what's happening around the city, and now that cell phones are in everybody's hand, the ability to experience a playoff run becomes so much easier. As you'll hear, the boys are excited about Game 6 and how much fun the city will be if the Oilers get through to the second round for the 4th consecutive season.

It's Wednesday afternoon, and I missed the podcast last week, which means there's plenty to talk about in today's episode of Better Lait Than Never. On this week's podcast, I'm discussing the 4 Nations Final, Matthew Savoie's hot second half to his season, my love for Brandon Hagel, and much more. After missing an episode last week, I'm back with a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never to recap what's been happening over the last couple of weeks. Starting with my trip to Montreal, I gave some insight about why I was even there, some of the meetings we had, and what it was like to go to my first game at the Bell Centre. I know I said a bunch of times that I wasn't excited about the tournament, but it's amazing how quickly that changed after only a single game.To start off the news, I looked at some of the latest Oilers news now that the boys are back on the ice. From there, I offered a quick preview of Thursday's Canada/USA 4 Nations Final. Even though that game doesn't really mean a whole lot in terms of the overall hockey history, there's little doubt that both nations are fired up to be facing off against each other in the final. Based on the hype for tomorrow's rematch, you'd almost think this was an Olympic final or something, and I love every minute of it.Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a guest Raighteous Sack Beatings from Dooks, before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails that were all over the map. The inbox was busier this week after I missed a show, and I got plenty of laughs from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.
Wednesday afternoon can only mean one thing: The weird niche podcast you listen to is back with a fresh episode. On this week's Better Lait Than Never, I wrapped up the Dollars for Dogs campaign with a thank you to everyone who participated, looked at Connor McDavid's three-game suspension, and much more.I kicked off this week's podcast by thanking everyone who participated in the Dollars for Dogs campaign with me this past week. Despite the absurdity of the bit, we raised over $6000 for SCARS Animal Rescue here in Edmonton, and I couldn't be happier about how things went. Now that this is over, the trick will be to get myself back on a regular diet without shocking my insides after a gruelling week of salt and dogs.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started the news with a quick recap of the Connor McDavid suspension. Given that everyone has already talked about McDavid getting three games at length, I shifted focus to the hilarious statement the Oilers made yesterday in solidarity with their captain. I don't know why the team thought they needed to put something out the way they did, but I sure had a healthy chuckle watching the internet overreact again. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with another guest Righteous Sack Beating from Dooks before wrapping up the show with another round of voicemails. The inbox was quiet again for the fourth consecutive week, but I still got a healthy chuckle from your ideas, feedback, and voicemails. As always, I sat back and laughed while listening to everything that's been on your mind over the last seven days.
After a couple of months of making up nonsense to pass the time, the Edmonton Oilers kick off their 2024-25 season tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, and that means a game day episode of Better Lait Than Never is here to capture the excitement. With only a few hours to wait until puck drop, I cranked out a non-traditional episode of BLTN to capture the community's excitement and tee off what I hoped would be a fantastic night at Rogers Place. Having never been to a banner-raising ceremony before, I was pumped to get back to the rink and watch them hang up a reminder to commemorate an unbelievable season. No, it wasn't the banner we wanted to see go up at Rogers Place, but I was choosing to treat this one like an appetizer.Changing gears, a lot of Oilers news has happened since the last podcast, and I tried to make as much sense of it as possible. From roster decisions to trying to make sense of the salary cap situation with Kane going on the LTIR, I walked through the week's biggest stories and offered my take on how those stories will impact the upcoming season. I mean, that was the plan at least. As you'll hear, anything to do with math is the last thing I should comment on, but I gave it the ol' college try anyway. Finally, I wrapped up this quick episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating from Dooks, who covered a wide range of topics. Needless to say, my man was in peak form with this voicemail as he battled his brain to come up with the right words for his complaint. Even though we never quite got to the point of the VM, I certainly had a healthy chuckle listening to him try to get his train of thought back on the rails.
The Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast: Episode #158 (or #73 if you're keeping count like the true legend you are) Coming to you live from the sprawling, totally-not-overhyped EC Studios of upstate South Carolina, Matt, Fred, and Allan are back with another hilariously unqualified take on the week's weirdest happenings. This week, we're dialing up the chaos—literally. First, Fred and Allan go head-to-head in an epic debate over area codes. That's right: 864 vs. 813. Which one has the cooler vibe? The stronger street cred? Spoiler alert: none of them, but it's fun watching them try to make a case. Next, things get philosophical (don't worry, it's brief). Fred finds himself in a moral pickle, and the guys weigh in with advice that is, let's just say, less than ethically sound. Prepare to laugh, cringe, and question your own life choices. Speaking of questionable life choices, Fred recounts a showdown with a “Karen” at his kid's travel baseball game. Was Fred the hero we didn't know we needed, or did he dive headfirst into the petty pool? We've got the receipts—well, the audio clips—so you can be the judge. And if you think that's wild, wait until we hit the news. An oven misfires in Virginia (seriously), Venezuela's president kicks off Christmas in October, and Washington DC experiences its very own cucumber caper. Yes, this is real life, folks. Finally, we wrap up with NFL fever. Who's taking the Lombardi Trophy this year? The Dolphins? The Lions? The Jets? (LOL, the Jets.) We break it all down, sprinkle in some hot takes, and pretend we're experts. So, grab a drink, adjust your area code loyalty, and prepare for the madness. The Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast: where reality meets ridiculousness and nothing makes sense—but hey, it's a good time. Welcome to the 158th edition of the Black Lincoln Collective Podcast, proudly broadcasting live from the palatial EC studios scattered all across the upstate of South Carolina. In this episode, we kick things off with a discussion about the significance of area codes and how they relate to personal identity. Fred and Alan debate the merits of the classic 864 versus the newly introduced 813. Which one is cooler? Tune in to find out! Next, we delve into a moral quandary that has Fred questioning his actions. The hosts weigh in on the ethics of the situation, and you'll be surprised by their conclusions. But the fun doesn't stop there. Fred shares a heated encounter at his son's travel baseball game, where he finds himself in a confrontation with a "Karen." Did Fred go too far, or was he justified in his actions? Listen to the audio clip and decide for yourself. We also bring you some of the wildest news stories from around the globe. From a gun going off in an oven in Virginia to Venezuela's president declaring Christmas in October, and a bizarre cucumber incident in Washington DC, the absurdity is off the charts. Finally, we dive into the excitement of the NFL season with our picks for the division winners and Super Bowl champions. Who will come out on top? The Dolphins, the Jets, or maybe even the Lions? From there, the fellas welcomed Dooks to the podcast as a special guest to discuss his playoff experience from down in Australia. There's nothing quite like a big trade in the hours leading up to the new episode of Better Lait Than Never to liven up the podcast, amirite? Today, Ken Holland pulled the trigger on a trade that saw the Oilers send out their first (2024), fourth (2025), and fifth-round (2025) picks in exchange for Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, a seventh-round pick, and Ty Taylor, and I want to talk about it.Before we got to the trade talk, I had to walk through a few different things first, including the amazing Brunch for Ben that happened last weekend and Greta and the bonus episode of BLTN that I recorded with Dooks. For my money, Dooks' visit to town went about as well as it possibly could have, and I was very grateful to be able to spend a little bit of time with him. I was also happy that he was able to attend the Brunch for Ben that happened on Saturday, marking the first Nation event he was able to attend as well.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, how could I not start with the massive trade that happened this afternoon? The Oilers sent out three picks—a first, fourth, and fifth—to acquire Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick at 75% retained while also grabbing a seventh-rounder and depth goalie as add-ins. While I personally like this trade a whole lot, it wasn't surprising to see how many Oilers fans were left wanting after the team spent its best trade chip on a middle-six forward and depth centreman.Lastly, I wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk for our friends at Bet99, played a guest RSB from Nick, and capped things off with another round of voicemails that ranged from Oilers talk to reality TV to anything else that was on your mind. Once again, this podcast never ceases to make me laugh, and I'm so very grateful for the levels of participation by the wonderful BLTN community that keep moving this show forward.Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? The best part of your Wednesday has finally arrived, as the new episode of Better Lait Than Never is prepped, edited, and ready for your ear holes. This week, I'm talking about the slog that is this latest stretch of Oilers hockey and what it's going to take to get out of this little funk they're in.Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started with a random collection of topics, including the hellish flu I was battling over the weekend and how it caused me to lose eight pounds in only three days. On the bright side, having the flu gave me an excuse to sit around and watch TV all day while my summer diet plan got a nice jump start without having to set foot in a gym. I also previewed the special episode of BLTN that will be happening with Dooks tomorrow down at Nation HQ and how I couldn't be more excited for this episode to finally happen.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I started with a look at the team's three-game losing streak and how it was so massive that they were able to snap the skid against the LA Kings. Obviously, no one wants to lose games, but having the Oilers find a way to get the job done against a Kings team that's been surging since their coaching change was a massive win in more ways than one.Looking ahead to next week's trade deadline, I ran through some of the latest rumours surrounding the Oilers and offered my take on whether or not I think the mentioned names would help. Most notably, Frank Seravalli mentioned this morning on Daily Faceoff Live that the Oilers could emerge as legitimate contenders to land Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues, and if a trade like that happened, it could end up being a game changer for this team down the stretch.Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel. The snow is flying in Edmonton, the Oilers lost their third straight game against the hated Calgary Flames, and that meant a whole lot for the boys to talk about on the Monday episode of Real Life.Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the podcast by welcoming Dooks from Australia and Brandon from Illinois to the podcast to talk about their respective trips to Edmonton to watch the Oilers. From the way Nation Citizens have stepped up to make their trips feel more special to experiencing Rogers Place for the first time, it was so much fun to hear the boys talk about what it's been like to visit our city and view it through their eyes. Getting back to the regularly scheduled programming, the guys tried to figure out what the hell is happening with the Edmonton Oilers and why the team seems to be struggling so immensely right now. For whatever reason, the Oilers are playing as porously as they were early in the season, and the result is giving up goals en masse, and those lapses are costing them games.Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at Kris Knoblauch's line combos and how there are some players who probably deserve more ice time than they're getting, even though the coach doesn't seem to agree. As an example, when Dylan Holloway is leading the team in shots against the Flames, would it not have made sense to give him a few extra shifts to see if he could make good on all that hard work? Did you think that just because I released a podcast last night for Ryan McLeod's contract I wasn't going to give you the normal Wednesday episode? Nonsense, I say. We've passed the midway point of the week and that means it's time for a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never.Kicking off this week's podcast, I got started with a quick Frank update after so many of you reached out about last week's show, wondering how my little man is doing after the scare from last Monday. The good news is that he's bounced back quickly, but that's not to say that there weren't still some speedbumps along the way. I also handled my end of the bet I made with Dooks regarding the outcome of the Canada/Australia game at the Women's World Cup after our ladies ended up getting shut out by a 4-0 score. Getting back to the Oilers, I spent a few more minutes on the Ryan McLeod signing and how it relates to what comes next with Evan Bouchard. Obviously, getting Dad locked in is the next item on Ken Holland's to-do list, but what makes the contract especially interesting is how it will affect whether the Oilers are able to ice a 22 or 21-man roster. Needless to say, it would be nice to have an extra or two if things go wrong, ya know? Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on the BLTN presidential election and what's been going on over the last week. If it's in a word or it's in a look, you can't get rid of...Gobbledyween. Why would you want to? Especially when Paul and AJ are joined by such enlightening guests as K. Dale Koontz and Ensley F. Guffey, authors of Wanna Cook? The Complete, Unofficial Companion to Breaking Bad. Dale and Ensley help the boys crack open Jennifer Kent's feature debut The Babadook, which has been called one of the most terrifying films ever made. The gang discusses the expectations that kind of praise sets up, how Kent uses the horror genre to explore depression and grief, the incredible acting of Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman, and, uh, Tarkovsky for some reason. Next: Joseph Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Joseph Lewis! There, now the Nowheresville and A/V writer-director is on hand to liven up Gobbledyween with talk of Tim Burton's 1988 classic Beetlejuice.

The Duo decide they must be on Schmoo, Aberdeens radio station with the most "smile worthy moments" , because frankly they must be better than the people on there. Dook gets concerned by a warm milk enema, prays Max Hardcore will rot in jail and weeps over porns niche market... Lucius sends strangers on wild goose chases while Dook gets concerned his Jamaican accent is racist (and it is), while bigging up the talent of new child stars; insulting the "children" in Harry Potter and f___ing Feldman... Suckerpunch is reviewed. meh. Lucius shows Dook way too many pictures of feces while annoying him with the term "filling an hour". Then they go into the abyss. A neighbor attempts suicide. She goes into the abyss. Dooks new flatmate is revealed as a ghost and Cruicky was murdered and sent to the abyss. Podcrastinations Patriarch's plead for their Monkey-children to dance for them.
