I'm not going to lie to you. This is one of the worst mainstream comics I've ever looked at, and absolutely the worst G.I. Joe comic book I've ever read. This cost $2.50 in 1989 and 34 years later, I'm still offended. Listen in this week to learn why! Another great interview with someone from the Joe community that's making it happen! This week I had a wonderful chat with our neighbor to the North, Darren Howlett from WhiskeyJack Toys! He's the brains behing the upcoming Legends of the Hidden Force line and the just launched new Kickstarter, C.H.A.O.S.! These articulated baddies need backing and you have until November 23rd to bring their evil into the world! I'll tell you who is NOT bringing evil into the world, our sponsorts The Movies and a Meal Podcast! They bring great conversation about great movies and meals! That's just what they do! We've got an extra long episode this week with very special guest, Jamie Sullivan! You know his amazing covers for the IDW G.I. Joe series, and he's back with a retailer variant for the upcoming Skybound G.I. Joe #1! We discuss that cover, which you can pre-order here, and specifically reveal a secret lurking on the cover, hiding in plain sight! Tune in to learn what that is! There's an extended conversation about the state of comic books as an industry, one that makes this oldhead feel even older, but we have a lively discussion! It's about time I had Jamie on the show, and I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. It's also about time you listend to The Movies and a Meal podcast! What are you waiting for! Give them all the downloads!
It's the end of the road for G.I. Joe Magazine! I hope you brought your hankies so we can mourn the final issue. If you did, you'd be the only one as there is no mention at all in the issue that this is the last! An adventure in the Sahara Desert for our 1988 G.I. Joe lineup awaits, with some dodgy storytelling, I have to say... I'm looking at you R. L. Stine. And I was thinking of Steve McNair! Check out his documentary it's great! I'll be our fantastic Sponsors, The Movies and a Meal Podcast, covered the Goosebumps movie. I liked that one myself, thought it was pretty well done! Give them a listen and find out what scary movies they're covering this Halloween season!
It's the Summer of 1988 and you're reading the G.I. Joe Magazine! Were you expecting the Joes to basically sign Voltar's death warrant in space? No you were not. And now in 2024, neither was I! The Summer of 2024 is over and we're heading into awards season at the movies, so make sure you give The Movies and a Meal Podcast a good listen, to see how much they loved or hated Joker 2!
It's Spring of 1988, you jumped off your Huffy and ran inside to see G.I. Joe The Magazine waiting for you on the counter! Even better... It has an interview with Alf! It also has an exciting story of highway subterfuge with everyone's favorite Road Pig and... Skidmark! Skidmark.... I'll be the Movies and a Meal Podcast has covered many highway chase movies. Give their podcast a listen to find out! We also have a winner in our 3D Joes Digipack giveaway! Listen to find out who!

Back to the magazine coverage this week, with the Fall 1987 issue of G.I. Joe Magazine! Fast Draw, Psyche Out, Gung Ho, Falcon, & Jinx have to save a group of tourists from Crystal Ball's mind control on the streets of Paris! I'll bet The Movies and a Meal Podcast have covered many movies that involve Parisian Mind Control. It's an overlooked, and underappreciated genre of film. Also overlooked, but never undarappreciated, our guy Dan Beals! Remember we're moving his comic book collection to fund his journey as a Judge in the Austin Film Festival! Make sure you check out our "Get Dan to AFF" collection and share #GetDanToAFF on social media for your chance to win one of the G.I. Joe Digipacks from 3DJoes!
It's a Joe on Joe Flashback as we revisit our podcast covering the DIC episode, An Officer and a Viperman! Why are we flashing back? Because my guest, filmmaker Dan Beals @Bealsebub is in the process of following his dream! His dream involves being a Judge at the Austin Film Festival! To make that happen, Dan has decided to sell his massive collection of comic books! Books that were cared for in only the way a true comic lover would, immaculately! So, I'm helping Dan move these books via my store on eBay. Please take a moment to check out my auctions, you'll see I have dozens of trade paperbacks for bid, Marvel, DC, and Independents! Proceeds from these auctions are going to GET DAN BEALS TO AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL! But wait, there's more! Go to Dan's Instagram page @Bealsebub and give him a follow, and comment on his post about the auction. Use tags #GetDanToAFF and #JoeonJoe in the comments on his or my posts, and in a couple weeks, when the auctions are all complete, a randomly chosen winner will receive an Art of G.I. Joe DIGIPACK from the Joe on Joe Podcast! If you're not on social media, you can also send me an email to joeonjoepod@gmail.com and I'll enter you in the contest as well! We want to spread the word about Dan's auctions, and raise him enough money to GET DAN BEALS TO AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL! Enjoy the show!
Summertime means hitting the beaches of Miami! No, it's not to help Crockett stop the drug trade, it's to stop Cobra from blowing up some boats! Join me on a deep dive into the G.I. Joe Magazine from Summer 1987! Here's a link to the action! I'd wager the gang at the Movies and a Meal Podcast reviewed the Miami Vice movie. If they didn't, consider this an assignment.
I continue my deep dive into the G.I. Joe Magazine with the Spring 1987 issue! We learn a little about Mike Schmidt, Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic, and most importantly... Cobra's plot to destroy the Golden Gate Bridge! I know Movies and a Meal Podcast has covered films where the Golden Gate was destroyed or attacked. I know this, because it happens in every 3rd disaster movie ever made. It's the law. Give them a listen to find out! You can follow along at the 3DJoes website here!
Jump forward 2 years and let's revisit the Magazine world, this time for the Winter 1987 issue! A fun prose story awaits us inside, which, in my opinion, is the true origin of both Headman and the DEF. You be the judge! The Movies and A Meal Podcast are the judges of all the great movies! Give them a listen and tell them Joe on Joe sent you!
I'm back from San Diego Comic Con and back from San Diego COVID Con! This week I take a look at the G.I. Joe Magazine from Winter 1985! What treats are in store for young readers? How about a brand new Larry Hama comic adventure!!!! Speaking of adventures, our sponsors the Movies and a Meal Podcast cover ALL the cinematic adventures. So if you're a fan of movies and or meals, you should give them a shout out!
So this is the LONGEST podcast I've ever recorded, and it's all in service of Cobra Convergence! Watch me relive my "artistic" origins and recreate a classic cover, like I used to do when I was 14 years old! You'll have to watch to see which cover made the grade! View on my YouTube channel! The Movies and a Meal Podcast always makes the grade! They've been supporting this show for over 5 years and I appreciate them so much! Give them a listen and a shoutout! Also big shoutout to HCC788 for organizing Cobra Convergence all this time, and a hearty thank you. Hope this is a worthy sendoff!
Another Zartan this week! This time, in full pose as an Olympic Speed Skater! Seriously, check out his pose. It's really an exercise in adding some perspective to the figure, with some limb foreshortening and so on. But I'm going to tell my kids he was a Speed Skater. You know who won't lie to you? The Movies and a Meal Podcast, that's who! They're giving you the honest truth about the latest films and tv shows that you're already watching, so give them a listen and get their hot takes!
I'm finally doing it! A full body shot of Zartan! It makes the episode a little longer, but I think it's worth it! Hope you enjoy! You know what's totally worth it... The Movies and a Meal Podcast! They're our sponsors and you should throw them some support!
We have a profile look at Zartan this week! It's a quick one, because frankly, he's all hood! The father of Cold Slither, Michael Charles Hill, joins me this week for a wide ranging conversation about his journey through 80's animation and the incredible footprint that he left! From Cold Slither, to The Coil, to the Ghost of Starscream, Michael was the creator of many of your favorite things, and I'm so happy to have him on our show this week! I hope everyone has a fantastic JoeFest this week! Stop by Michael's booth and say hello! Happy for The Movies and A Meal Podcast too! They keep this show running and you should give them your support and love!

Announced this week was the Transformers X G.I. Joe movie! What will our friends at Movies and a Meal Podcast think of it! Listen to their show and find out!
Let's go back into the third dimension with #3 of the Blackthorne series! A fun tale with everyone's least favorite Cobra... Crystal Ball messing with everyone's least favorite G.I. Joe... Psyche Out! It's a real pick your poison but very well done with great 3D effects, artwork, and a cover by a very young Patrick Zircher! Have The Movies and a Meal Podcast covered any 3D movies? Obviously they did Avatar, but I mean like old school ones, like The Blob? Check out their podcast feed to find out!
It's with a sad heart, but joyous soul that I bring you this podcast. This week we lost one of my personal favorite G.I. Joe artists of all time, Mark "Doc" Bright. The man who first illustrated Snake Eyes' messed up face! He had such an impact on that era of comics, which was my formative years, that I wanted to dedicate this special episode to say goodbye to someone who I never met, but whose work meant so much to me. Please join me for a retrospective and celebration of the work of M.D. Bright on this week's episode of Joe on Joe Illustrated.
