Is Mixtape a “real game”? Honestly, who cares; we love this coming-of-age story set in the 90s from Beethoven and Dinosaur, through Annapurna Interactive. It's quick, it's robust, and it's memorable, and that's what we're after from narrative-focused experiences like this. Snackaroo is advanced Snap by way of Aardman, for up to 5 players, and while it's a children's game for sure, it's got enough meat in the bun for the parents of those kids too. It's from Rudi Biber and Ravensburger, and we really like it. Plus the wood glue is out for a QoL project to make a complex setup more simple, with the Descent 2nd Edition organiser from The Game Doctors, via Feldherr. All that, and being famous for five minutes on r/CasualUK, on Ep249. 00:00 - Getting Creami with ninjas 09:47 - Snackaroo 22:00 - Kris's house is famous 25:15 - Mixtape 49:44 - Getting sticky with The Game Doctors on Feldherr On this episode were Kris (@DigitalStrider), Peter (@XeroXeroXero), and Sam (@MrSamTurner).
Fatality! Mortal Kombat II is out, and its hilarious, in a good way! Plus Mixtape shines in a way I never expected. Meanwhile, Nintendo jumps on the price increase bandwagon, Ahsoka is stuck in another galaxy for another year, and peacock is about to get a speed boost.

In this episode, Bryan and Josh check into the Hotel Letztes Jahr to discuss Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Developed by Simogo and published by Annapurna Interactive, the game marks a clear step in the studio's evolution from mobile hits like Sayonara Wild Hearts toward a slower, more contemplative experience inspired by survival horror and art-house cinema. Following Lorelei Weiss through the hotel's labyrinthine halls, we dig into its nonlinear progression, dense numerical puzzles, and layered storytelling. From the intricate mansion layout to its striking black, white, and magenta aesthetic (and the unsettling presence of the maze men) the game creates a constant sense of discovery as each puzzle leads to several more. The conversation also explores the game's deeper structure and themes, including its puzzle design, the necessity (and chaos) of note-taking, and the friction created by its one-button interface. More than just a puzzle game, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes emerges as a meditation on art itself, particularly the tension between creative expression and commercial pressure. So listen in as we reflect on an experience defined by confusion, discovery, and creeping unease… a discussion that aims to be as thoughtful and layered as the game we're unpacking.Three Word Reviews:Josh - Fractal, Fracture, ForgivenessBryan - Puzzles Beget Puzzles
Gaming has certainly fallen into the same trap as Hollywood at least with a major part of AAA gaming where established franchises are king, and although movies also have the "indie space" they only really come up in the greater zeitgeist during award season. In contrast, with gaming, the indies are the area where originality has shined through more and more in each passing year. so it was interesting to hear Ben Starr say that "original IP should be King" right now. Should this be the case? Should more established gaming publishers steer into original IP again? Sean and Marc discuss if this is even possible outside of the indie space. Sean has also been playing a new indie game called People of Note that has just released from Iridium Games and Annapurna Interactive is the Rhythm Turn-Based RPG something you should pick up? Sean gives you the details. Also, Marc's been playing more Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown too. Plus, Xbox Fanfest is back, Marc has thoughts on the Super Mario Galaxy movie, Disney may have interest in purchasing Epic Games, Steam is going to show you framerates for games, Palworld has a dating sim, more layoffs in gaming and more! You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/L6kOPer3hHw

Just when you think it may be a great week to celebrate games, here comes a huge gaming business deal that has the potential to change the fortunes of a major gaming publisher. Announced on Monday, EA was taken private for $55 billion by the Saudi Arabia Private Investment Fund and two other private investment firms. Sean and Marc discuss what this could mean for EA, its employees, and could some of EA's big franchises could go down in the wake of this. There was a major gaming convention this weekend in the Tokyo Game Show, which featured a State of Play from PlayStation, a TGS Showcase from Xbox, Annapurna Interactive having a mini showcase, a PC Gaming showcase, and much more. The duo discusses their favorite announcements from some of the shows. Plus, Sean and Marc have both been playing Hades 2, Marc's been playing Silent Hill F, the Xbox ROG Ally & Xbox ROG Ally X have official prices and already sold out in many places, Doug Bowser is retiring at Nintendo, and another developer talks Game Key Cards, and more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX. It's all about games, games, games (and apples) on this episode. There's a review of Jungo by Cocktail Games and thoughts on Agatha Christie's Death on the Cards from Modiphius, both of which got lots of outings in the most appropriate space for them: while on holiday. If you're after a bit of virtual tourism and/or you reckon yourself handy with a DSLR then Matt Newell and Annapurna Interactive's Lushfoil Photography Sim is very much for you, and if you want to live another life entirely (well, lots of lives, actually) then you'll want to give Time Flies from Playables and Panic a go too. And after all that relaxation, you might need to get on with some work, in which case may we recommend you Focus Friend by Hank Green and Honey B Games. All that, and glass grenades, on Ep231. 00:00 - Apple updates 05:48 - Holiday games 10:56 - Agatha Christie's Death on the Cards and Jungo 17:26 - Time Flies 27:23 - Lushfoil Photography Sim 50:05 - Focus Friend On this episode were Dan (@ThisDanFrost), Kris (@DigitalStrider), and Peter (@XeroXeroXero). Does the T stand for Tom?The advantage of using the Xbox Box Game Pass "Surprise Me" button to chose games is that it will invariably select niche games that probably wouldn't be on your radar. Such is the case with this puzzle adventure title created by uvula and published by Annapurna Interactive. You've probably never heard of the studio... because this is their first and only game... but you may be familiar with Keita Takahashi, most famous for creating and designing the Katamari Damacy series. If you are indeed familiar with that quirky franchise, you can start to make some fairly accurate assumptions of the art style and tone of this game. If not, just know you are in for something unlike most other things you've played. Will Tom and Chris appreciate this sojourn into the silly? Will it have meaty mechanics that keep them clamoring for more after the first hour is up? Time to take this title for a spin and see if it takes off! What do you think? Both a color scheme and a hawk god. With no context outside of the key art, our hosts were in the dark about this random selection from the Xbox Game Pass "Surprise Me" button. It turns out to be a third-person action RPG developed in New Zealand by A44 and published by Annapurna Interactive. While that is a bit more to work with, it still doesn't paint the full picture of what this decidedly stylized title has to offer. With themes drawn from Cormack McCarthy's The Road, and combat mechanics inspired by Dark Souls, a vision of the experience starts coming into focus. But what happens when they picked up their controllers and that vision met with reality? Each host has invested an hour and now they meet to briefly discuss their findings. Will they agree to keep playing after the hour is up? Hit play to hear their decisions! What do you think? PS This is Awesome: Episode 366Fred has officially conquered F.I.S.T. and completed every Contra game in the Contra Collection. Now, he's diving into Bloom & Rage. Meanwhile, Jake has started Avowed and is digging into Obsidian's latest RPG.In listener feedback, PrescriptN asked if we've checked out Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, which is free on PS Plus Premium. Sounds like a great pick for Star Wars fans, especially with all the VR we've been playing lately. In the news:
As one of the year's first major AAA releases inches ever closer with Monster Hunter Wilds, Sean and Marc delve a bit into the indie space as they discuss the latest ID @ Xbox showcase and the Annapurna Interactive showcase as well. Were there any games that stood out? Any that got them super excited for their eventual release? Sean certainly has quite a few from both. Could Neowiz be hinting that Lies of P: Overture is co-op? Also, in a quiet week for gaming news, Microsoft made some waves by introducing their A.I. gaming tech called Muse which featured a demo using a rather maligned Ninja Theory game Bleeding Edge. Is there a worry about this leading to job losses? Or is this more of a positive as a way to bring back older games and keep them available on modern consoles? Plus, NetEase makes some weird decisions after announcing great news for Marvel Rivals, a former Nintendo Sales employee says the Summer is when we see Switch 2, Ubisoft suffers another blow with Assassin's Creed Shadows, Sean has more to say on Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and more! You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/6MhLht6Y10cListen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... Welcome to episode 51 of Shack Together! We're joined by special guest Sam Chandler to discuss his in-depth (and belated - our fault, not his) review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and share insights on the latest S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 update. In addition, TJ Denzer (not present) has published their review of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which we touch on during today's episode as well. Our main segment today introduces "NOW! That's What I Call Trivia: Volume Gaming," a game that tests the crew's knowledge on everything from Marvel Rivals to Annapurna Interactive's catalogue of releases. In Story Time, we cover significant industry developments, including NetEase Games' Marvel Rivals layoffs despite the game's enormous popularity, GameStop's sale of its Canadian and French operations, and Pacific Drive reaching 1 million units sold. We also discuss the newly announced Annapurna Interactive Showcase 2025 and share impressions of the Delta Force: Black Hawk Down campaign. And that's all for today's show! After two weeks of R&R, the Duke boys are back! Plenty happened while we were away. Everything from Oblivion Remake leaking (again) to a supposed Xbox console dropping in 2026 circulated, so we have much to pick up at the start of the new year. For starters, a Developer Direct looms and the lineup could be stacked if it's to include The Outer Worlds 2, Fable, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and South Of Midnight as expected. The question on the tip of everyone's tongue is simply this: "What is the mystery fifth game appearance?" In year one, it was Hi Fi Rush. Year two gave it to a rare third party appearance in Square Enix for Visions Of Mana. The Duke debate what could show up! We also dive into Xbox's sudden competition with Valve as they've lept headfirst into challenging Windows with their own OS. How has this accelerated Microsoft's plans without a handheld ready? Plus, grim estimates of Xbox's current console sales and, even worse, Xbox's sales hits to Game Pass titles! Rob, Patrick, and Cado are psyched to be joined by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who's also the author of an upcoming book about the complicated legacy and uncertain future of Blizzard. With Janet traveling, the rest of the group mulls the strange blowup at Annapurna Interactive and the equally strange and crypto-infused return of Flappy Bird. Both Patrick and Jason have spent time with the audacious UFO 50, while Jason, sadly, hasn't exactly been blown away by The Lucky Squire.
