In today's Daily Fix:Microsoft held a talk at this year's Game Developers Conference where they gave a very brief overview of what to expect from the next-gen Xbox hardware, codenamed Project Helix. The console is confirmed to be able to play PC and Xbox games, and will be powered by a custom AMD SoC. They also teased a look at the Xbox Developer Kit, or XDK. In other news, Fortnites original story-focused Save the World mode will go free-to-play for the first time in April. The mode is what Fortnite was all about before the Battle Royale mode was added a few months later and subsequently changed the gaming industry forever. And finally, original Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya wants Capcom to add a 'non-scary' mode to Resident Evil Requiem, since he just wants to do puzzles and combat.
In today's Daily Fix:Xbox's new CEO, Asha Sharma, has officially teased the next console: codenamed "Project Helix." The next-generation gaming console will be compatible with PC as well as Xbox games. Sharma will be at the Game Developers Conference next week to share more details. In other news, Highguard has received its final update, the "Farewell Tour" patch, which adds a new playable Warden, new skill tree, and new weapons. Players will get to enjoy it for a week before the whole game shuts down on March 12. Castlevania fans worried that the new Belmont's Curse might be more roguelike or roguelite than classic Castlevania, fear not. Developer Motion Twin has roguelike experience with the hit game Dead Cells, but Konami is promising a classic Castlevania experience with the new game. And finally, Ubisoft has released the first piece of concept art for the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the remake of the fan-favorite fourth Assassin's Creed game.

Game Developers Conference was this last week, allowing the makers of games to get together and network and share ideas for the future of the industry. The Game Developers Conference is happening in San Francisco, and Patrick and Rob are [checks notes] not there and a little bummed about it, which leads to a longer discussion about the role of games media in helping spread information from events like it. They also talk about Bobby Kotick filing a lawsuit against various media outlets and the new Life Is Strange flopping, before Cado joins for a long discussion on the (excellent!) Assassin's Creed Shadows, early weird troubles with Rob's new PC, and consider why some fruit snacks look better than others.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hey Strangers, #indiegame #gaming #ai Video games—and the people who make them—are in trouble. An estimated 10,500 people in the industry were laid off in 2023 alone. This year, layoffs in the nearly $200 billion sector have only gotten worse, with studios axing what is believed to be 11,000 more, and counting. Microsoft, home of the Xbox and parent company to several studios, including Activision Blizzard, shuttered Tango Gameworks and Alpha Dog Games in May. All the while, generative AI systems built by OpenAI and its competitors have been seeping into nearly every industry, dismantling whole careers along the way. But gaming might be the biggest industry AI stands poised to conquer. Its economic might has long since eclipsed Hollywood's, while its workforce remains mostly nonunion. A recent survey from the organizers of the Game Developers Conference found that 49 percent of the survey's more than 3,000 respondents said their workplace used AI, and four out of five said they had ethical concerns about its use. ======================================= My other podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKpvBEElSl1dD72Y5gtepkw ************************************************** Something Strange https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRjVc2TZqN4&t=4s ************************************************** article links: https://www.wired.com/story/ai-is-already-taking-jobs-in-the-video-game-industry/ ====================================== Today is for push-ups and Programming and I am all done doing push-ups Discord https://discord.gg/MYvNgYYFxq TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@strangestcoder Youtube https://www.youtube.com/@codingwithstrangers Twitch https://www.twitch.tv/CodingWithStrangers Twitter https://twitter.com/strangestcoder merch Support CodingWithStrangers IRL by purchasing some merch. One of the reasons behind the immense popularity of this hit multiplayer roleplaying game is its incredible soundtrack. Today, we are joined by the Audio Director of Larian Studios — the makers of “Baldur's Gate 3” — Stefan Randelshofer, along with our guest host, Dolby's Senior Game Developer Relations Manager, Alistair Hirst, in a live discussion from this year's Game Developers Conference, to discuss what went into creating the rich, sonic atmosphere of the video game.“There is a complete architecture for 3D audio that allows you to listen to 3D audio objects. You can make that work automatically and you can facilitate those 3D audio objects and that gives you so many chances to be more immersed in what you're doing. In a world like Baldur's Gate, there's so much stuff going on. In the city, when people talk around you. You have a cool combat — if you have one of the spells fly by. So it really gives you the perspective of being there. Therefore, that was the reason for me to go into this Dolby setup”—Stefan Randelshofer, Audio Director, “Baldur's Gate 3”Be sure to check out “Baldur's Gate 3”, available on PC, Steam, and consoles. Please subscribe to Dolby Creator Talks wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode.Learn more about the Dolby Institute and check out Dolby.com.
