9/11 was a horrific event in American history. My condolences and prayers to all of the families who lost loved ones on this earth shattering day. Also, prayers and best wishes to all of our service men, firefighters, police officers, doctors and nurses who dedicate their lives to help others. My question on this show is: should African Americans commemorate slavery as a horrific period in our history? While I totally support commemorating events that have significantly altered history and affected so many lives, I'm wondering if slavery deserves a little more identification amongst our own community. What do you think? (Short show)
Abbreviated show. The table is open to discuss various topics and welcome any of the big G's, little G's, or G'ette's out there to express what's on their minds.
“The war against working people should be understood to be a real war…. Specifically in the U.S., which happens to have a highly class-conscious business class…. And they have long seen themselves as fighting a bitter class war, except they don't want anybody else to know about it.” — Noam Chomsky Part II of our evolution seireis looks at the evolution of the "American Dream" and how to reconcile it with today's American Nightmare. We'll explore whether or not the American dream and the metophorical big house with a white picket fence, was unrealistic or if the way were told to get it was wrong.. Was the American public hoodwinked to buy into something that was primarily beneficial for the rich? Does it really matter given the average american earns more than 80% of the rest of the world? Should we be content with where we are? Tune in today as we discuss with Jamal Brooks, MBA
This Sunday on the show, we are beginning our evolution series starting with the evolution of Black Manhood. One look at today's box office hits (Superman, Batman, Thor, Green Lantern, The X-Men, etc.) and we see tons of examples of White Male virility. Where's the balance? Where are the extraordinary Black Male models? Does it even matter that we have none or does Tyler Perry suffice. Listen as I interview prominent guests M. Raheem Mander creator of the Surian Seed: Rise of the Rudan Comic Book; Dawud Anyabwile, creator of the historic Brotherman Comic Book and characters; Greg Anderson, writher of Twa, and Stomp the Yard; and, Dr. Jonathan Gayles, tenured professor of Cultural Anthropology at GSU and creator of one of the most impactful documentaries on the Black superhero. Very short show recapping Freedom Series and launching series on the evolution of things from Black Masculinity, Black Femininity, Wealth, American Dream, etc. Call-in at 347-989-8871.
Part IV of the Freedom Series with Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr., PhD, Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Princeton University. Have wealth, and a global community driven by technology shifted the needs of the Black community in ways that have made the traditional scope of the church too narrow? Are people tired of hearing ministers speak truth to power? Have business, manufacturing, industry and technology replaced our "need" for Church and God? We will discuss with Dr. Eddie Glaude and prominent Civil Rights Ministers.
With the Arab Spring and democracy revolutionizing the muslim world, and the soon to be sweeping national legislation regarding homosexual marriage nationwide we are witnessing a boom of freedom. Is there a line when it comes to personal freedom or is all freedom good? Is there an impact on the institution of family and if so, does the ideal of freedom justify it. Is it good to define roles and behavior or do we let live and let live?
In Part I of the "freedom" series, I'll explore whether or not there's any detriment to people freely expressing their sexuality with Dr. Lawrence Carter, Dean Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel and leading religious and philosophical expert. Do people, particularly the traditionally conservative Black Community, need to evolve with the culture in embracing on-demand customizable sexuality...doing it how you see fit. Also, does sexually "doing you" negatively impact the family and dating structure?
I'm Rich B@tch! But, are we better off? Hip hop started off as a medium to exprress our oppression. It was a tool used to communicate with like-minded individuals with similar experiences. It developed as a mindset that people can survive without having to conform to "the system". It's undoubtedly spawned a generation of bling and new millionaires. However, are we better off? Join me as I interview Dr. Jeffrey Ogbar author of Hip Hop Revolution: The Culture of Politics and Rap about the real data behind the effects of hip hop. This book is the first of it's kind to explore and challenge conventional ideas that hip hop has been a destructive force in our community. He is a rising star in culture and academia as Michael Eric Dyson, Henry Louis Gates, Cornell West, and others have used his research in their own studies and have passed the torch to him as one of Black America's future leaders.
The federal government bailed out Wallstreet to the tune of $800B to restore balance. Yet, today, family is in similar crisis as marriage rates are declining across the board. Specifically, Black families are in the most dire shape of all as 70% of Black Women in their 20's are unmarried, 50% of first marriages for Black women end in divorce, and over 70% of Black children are born into single family households. What will happen if we don't make changes? What does the future look like if we don't correct the path?
Do women and men today mistake a woman's sexuality for her feminity? Everywhere we look, we see hyper-sexual displays of women; yet, rarely do we see modest images of womanhood. We'll discuss and explore on the show with special guests from the Morehouse School of Medicine
Truth? You Can't Handle The Truth! When women cheat and want to tell but can't! Or, are women remorseless about cheating? Do they cheat because the man's behavior is so atrocious that it drove them to another man's (or woman's) arms? Are men more penitent when they stray?
God's greatest gift to us, our mother's. Take time out today and call in with a word of appreciation about your mother.
In today's society the new family is the blended family. But do people jump in too quick before they realize what taking on someone else's seed really consists of. Is this a good thing or is it just the evolution of the family. Tune in when author Brandi Mitchell who wrote "The Blended Family Survival Guide" tells us why this new look of the family can be successful.
In todays society everything is microwaved from our food to our relationships. Has this created a culture with a mindset that believes in instant success. Do we no longer have the attitude of Forever Love. Are our relationships like reality television shows where they just come and go. Are there times when we should walk away? Tune in when we discuss "to stay or to walk away".
It's worth noting that the success of young women has become an international phenomenon, creating a shift in traditional gender roles. Women are outperforming men in college and in business even in places like South korea, Poland, and China. Why? How will this affect the family long-term?
Humiliation, depersonalization and abandonment have been longstanding issues faced by women with their men. This is causing many women to "man-up" out of survival for herself and/or her family. In particuar, the growing gap between men and women in school and entry-level jobs in our global knowledgge economy promise to have effects that last far beyond this generation. What do men need to do to reverse the tide and keep women whole and sane?
Are women having to tiptoe around the male ego in order to keep marriages and relationshps toether? Join us as Author Marlo Wrght discusses her new controversial book "Suck A D@ck Save A Marriage" and how the wanton abuse she suffered at the hand of a misguided male ego suffocated her spirit. Are men and current constructs of family the enemies of female liberation or are these constructs in alignment with human nature? Call in to listen and provide perspective 877-404-0790
With marriage rates at an all-time low, consistent divorce rates, and out-of-wedlock childbirths increasing amid the 50 year boom in the average American's quality of life; we further explore why good men aren't committing to good women and whether our culture has developed the wrong paradigm with relation to what's needed to make a successful marriage. Do social and economic inequalities corrode relationships between people of the underclass? Do the comparative conditions between the have's and have-nots cause dissention between the men and women of the underprivileged and lower classes? Are these divisions real or contrived?
Corporate America now influences everything from what we do when we wake up in the morning to when we go to bed. It not only influences what we buy but also influences what we eat what we wear where we live what we learn who we marry who were intimate with who we befriend and how we spend our most !
"Valentine's Day" as most know is supposed to be a day of love and relationship. The full expression of how a man feels about a woman. But does the pagan origin make the day flawed? Should it be just about the women? When did the day become about money and flair and not about how two people felt about one another or is it just another way for society to make money? Does it create more stress and problems for relationships?
With marriage rates declining across the board, and with the decline being more pronounced in the African American community, lets be frank about some reasons and possible solutions!
Has the poor historical treatment of Black women caused her to be more conservative and silent about her sexuality? Are white women more liberated in the bedroom or is that a falshood leading Black Men astray. Is the Black Male/Mandingo always looking to "bed" the first White Woman he can find? Tune in to find out how these ideas shape our perceptions and choices.
Does p*rn provide the necessary outlet for husbands/wives who aren't getting enough loving at home? Is this preventing spouses from cheating or is it a spiritual abomination that's further hurting relationships?
