Today, we're discussing the tragic murder of Austin Metcalf — a case that's not just heartbreaking but deeply revealing of a larger cultural crisis we need to address head-on. I'll be sharing my raw thoughts on what happened, and more importantly, having the uncomfortable (but necessary) conversation surrounding crime statistics in the black community. If we're ever going to see real change — fewer senseless killings, safer neighborhoods, and stronger families — then we have to stop tiptoeing around the truth. It's time to talk about why these patterns keep repeating and what cultural shifts must happen to break the toxic and deadly cycle. This isn't about hate — it's about accountability, truth, and the fight for life, stability, and genuine justice.—https://policecoffee.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACG7qmLTSF8TidU6uJpGkHMYzxsnd&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vPh4GA_6w_PdX8w4PW0sRhPD76KOyhYBmiEOdpiLXHP1G10c9kaPMEaAkK-EALw_wcB

We have become a most tediously offended people. We're not talking about the big stuff — it's the “little” things we wonder about. “Sticks and stones may break my bones” and “water off a duck's back” seem quaint and anachronistic in today's culture of maximal aggrievement. Provoked by even the slightest offense — that, mind you, we seem to be on constant vigilance to find — we're on a hair trigger that sends us into conjuring up “us vs. them” and “good vs. evil” thinking and language.  Scholars have written that this sad state of affairs reflects a wider shift in our culture, from what they call a “dignity culture” to an “honor and victimhood culture.” Humanity has been here before (in the days of yore when the Secretary of the Treasury killed a sitting vice president, or that one time a U.S. Senator was caned on the Senate floor) — and it doesn't end well. On this episode of Crazy Wisdom, Stewart Alsop speaks with pianist and AI innovator Ayse Deniz, who is behind "Classical Regenerated," a tribute project that uses artificial intelligence to bring classical composers back to life. Ayse shares how she trains AI models on historical documents, letters, and research to create interactive experiences where audiences can "speak" with figures like Chopin. The conversation explores the implications of AI in music, education, and human perception, touching on active listening, the evolution of artistic taste, and the philosophical questions surrounding artificial intelligence. You can connect with Ayse's through Instagram or learn more about her work visiting her website at adpianist.com.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:17 Exploring the Classical Regenerated Project00:39 AI in Live Concerts and Historical Accuracy02:25 Active Listening and the Impact of Music04:33 Personal Experiences with Classical Music09:46 The Role of AI in Education and Learning16:30 Cultural Differences in Music Education21:33 The Future of AI and Human Interaction30:13 Political Correctness and Its Impact on Society35:23 The Struggles of Music Students36:32 Wisdom Traditions and Tough Love37:28 Cultural Differences in Education39:57 The Role of AI in Music Education42:23 Challenges and Opportunities with AI47:21 The Future of Governance and AI50:11 The Intersection of Technology and Humanity56:05 Creating AI-Enhanced Music Projects01:06:23 Final Thoughts and Future PlansKey InsightsAI is transforming how we engage with classical music – Ayse Deniz's Classical Regenerated project brings historical composers like Chopin back to life using AI models trained on their letters, academic research, and historical documents. By allowing audiences to interact with AI-generated versions of these composers, she not only preserves their legacy but also creates a bridge between the past and the future of music.Active listening is a lost skill that AI can help revive – Modern music consumption often treats music as background noise rather than an art form requiring deep attention. Ayse uses AI-generated compositions alongside original works to challenge audiences to distinguish between them, fostering a more engaged and analytical approach to listening. The nature of artistic interpretation is evolving with AI – Traditionally, human performers interpret classical compositions with emotional nuance, timing, and dynamics. AI-generated performances are now reaching a level where they can mimic these subtleties, raising questions about whether machines can eventually match or even surpass human expressiveness in music.AI's impact on education will depend on how it is designed – Ayse emphasizes that AI should not replace teachers but rather serve as a tool to encourage students to practice more and develop discipline. By creating an AI music tutor for children, she aims to support learning in a way that complements human instruction rather than undermining it.Technology is reshaping the psychology of expertise – With AI capable of outperforming humans in various fields, there is an emerging question of how people will psychologically adapt to always being second-best to machines. The discussion touches on whether AI-generated knowledge and creativity will demotivate human effort or inspire new forms of artistic and intellectual pursuits. The philosophical implications of AI challenge our sense of reality – As AI-generated personas and compositions become more convincing, distinguishing between what is “real” and what is synthetic is becoming increasingly difficult. The episode explores the idea that we may already be living in a kind of simulation, where our perception of reality is constructed and mediated by evolving technologies.AI is accelerating personal empowerment but also risks centralization – Just as personal computing once promised decentralization but led to the rise of tech giants, AI has the potential to give individuals new creative powers while also concentrating influence in the hands of those who control the technology. Ayse's work exemplifies how AI can be used for artistic and educational empowerment, but it also raises questions about the need for ethical development and accessibility in AI tools.

In this interview with BizNews, has hails the “surprise” support from new Correctional Services Minister Dr Pieter Groenewald, and hails him for acknowledging the severity of lack of resources and the impact of government's broken promise of 40,000 new members, as well as for pledging to implement the proposed shift system, and for agreeing on the necessity of the self-sustainability programme in Correctional Services which POPCRU first tabled in 2015, and which involves putting inmates to work to contribute toward their own upkeep while gaining valuable skills. He also has praise for new Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. “We have agreed with him that we are going to have a sort of a presentation with him to show him the loopholes”. Furthermore, Ngwenya shares details of the urgent reforms POPCRU is fighting for in the Criminal Justice Cluster.

In this episode, we dive into the complex world of political correctness and its impact on authenticity, especially in the realm of art. We challenge the notion that being "nice" always equates to being truthful, real, or even kind. Art demands risk, truth, and vulnerability—qualities that are often compromised when we prioritize political correctness. This conversation explores the balance between being respectful and staying true to your voice, encouraging artists to confront both the light and shadow within themselves. Key Points: The Pitfall of Political Correctness in Art: Understand why playing it safe through political correctness can stifle creativity and authenticity, and why great art often requires taking risks. Truth vs. Niceness: Explore the difference between being nice and being kind, and how niceness can sometimes be a deceptive or even cruel mask that hides the truth. The Role of Vulnerability: Learn why vulnerability is crucial in art and how being politically correct can prevent you from expressing your true self. Balancing Respect with Honesty: Discover how to navigate the fine line between being considerate of others' feelings and staying true to your beliefs and artistic vision. Exploring Humanity's Light and Shadow: Delve into the importance of understanding both the positive and negative aspects of humanity in your creative journey. The Courage to Be Authentic: Gain insights into finding the bravery to be vulnerable and honest in a world that often pressures you to conform and hide your true self. Join us for a deep and thoughtful discussion that encourages you to embrace the challenges of being truthful and authentic in your art, even when it means stepping outside the bounds of political correctness. This episode is a call to courage, urging you to dig deeper into your soul and create from a place of honesty and kindness, without sacrificing your unique voice.   -- (Photo by Leio McLaren on Unsplash)   ...And if you're loving the show, don't forget to hit that SUBSCRIBE button, SHARE IT with your friends, and VISIT OUR WEBSITE for even more content!  www.WayoftheArtist.com

In 2012, the University of Miami philosopher Colin McGinn was accused of sexual harassment by a graduate student. When the matter became public, Pinker wrote in an open letter that McGinn was a “brilliant and distinguished scholar” and that if the University of Miami pursued disciplinary action against McGinn for “exchanging sexual banter with a graduate student,” it would “put a chill on communication between faculty and graduate students and on the openness and informality on which scholarship depends.” In our conversation, Pinker often brings up “The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature,” which, even two decades after its release, illustrates core aspects of his thinking today. The book argues that our individual behaviors — our intelligence, our sociability, our tendencies toward violence — are rooted in our genes, not just the environment in which we are raised. “.. in 2006 Pinker published a favorable review of a scientific paper which argued that Ashkenazi Jews may have evolved to have higher IQs than other racial and ethnic groups.” One of the first academics to be canceled, Pinker says, was E. O. Wilson. Wilson was a biologist and professor of evolutionary biology at Harvard. Today, he is known for two things: his award-winning work on biodiversity and his public branding as a racist. In 1975, Wilson published a book called “Sociobiology: The New Synthesis,” which argues that behaviors result from genes — “very much in the strain of work that I wrote about on human nature,” Pinker says — and stepped into a debate about scientific racism. In his book, Wilson writes that there should be a “discipline of anthropological genetics” to explore whether cultural differences are biological. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2022/10/27/steven-pinker-scrut/ Pinker currently serves on the E. It comes in many forms, but in Canada it's more and more becoming codified in law. As Dr. Jordan Peterson (and those observing his plight) have learned, the PC Game now has legal teeth and real-world consequences for those who don't want to play. Dr. Peterson is a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and a clinical psychologist. He recently posted a series of lectures on his YouTube channel with titles like “Professor Against Political Correctness,” “Fear and the Law,” and “The University of Toronto Requests My Silence.” These lectures were delivered after the University's HR department mandated that “trans people” be called by of the newfangled pronouns like zie, hir, ey, em, eir, they, co, xe, to name but a sample of the absurdist verbiage that has been coughed up by activists. The good professor is not having any of it. And he's putting his job on the line—and whatever other punishments that may be in store if he is hauled before the Ontario Human Rights Commission (sounds cuddly, don't it?). For if Bill C-16 is passed in Canada at the federal level, “gender identity” and “gender expression” join the List of the Prohibited and constitute actionable grounds of discrimination. New York City already has a similar law. Those guilty of “mis-gendering” must pay a $250,000 fine. The Big Apple recognizes 31 gender identities, by the way. But this isn't merely about pronouns. What's at stake is whether the government or any other institution should be allowed to control and proscribe human speech, especially when the phrasing of the controllers are vague and impossible to interpret consistently, let alone police equitably. When Italy's fascist dictator Benito Mussolini sought a more “virile language” for his machismo vision of the Italian nation, he required the comradely voi (the plural “y'all”) for Lei, the feminine form. Under his rule, voi was obligatory in schools, public offices, movie subtitles, radio shows, and public ceremonies. Not surprisingly, Italians dropped the fear-based nonsense and reverted to the traditional Lei when the hated dictator fell from power.
