Hey mamas! Last week I talked about feeling like a failure as a mom. Sometimes, we can feel like a failure if our identity is in our children. Paul David Tripp writes 5 indications that your identity might be in your children instead of God in his book Parenting (14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family). It's eye opening and encourages us to remember as mamas our identity is ONLY found in God and when we recognize that and live it out our mothering changes. After you have done that, ask the Lord to search your heart and to reveal is this feeling based on a LIE or based on an area the Lord wants to grow you in? I LOVE YOU mamas and I'm praying for you. You aren't alone. God is faithful to reveal His truth to us. He will let us know if we are just believing lies or if it's an area we can grow in. EVEN THEN - we are not "failures." #33: Our Identity

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 30, 2023 36:57

Hey mamas :) My last episode of the year is all about identity. The one thing that I want to correct myself on is this: "Each person upon accepting the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ receives the Holy Spirit inside as a seal of salvation (Ephesians 1:12–14). The Spirit THEN gives to each believer certain gifts from God to do the work of God (1 Corinthians 12:4–6). Scripture contains several passages about spiritual gifts: No matter what the gift, its purpose is to edify and mature the church and to glorify God in serving others. All gifts are given by grace from God through the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 12:4; Hebrews 2:4). Different people are given different gifts. Not everyone receives the same gift (1 Corinthians 12:4). Those gifted with various spiritual gifts are meant to work together as the parts of a body work together (1 Corinthians 12:12–27). The gifts God gives to His people are divinely placed for the good of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27)." PLEASE see LINKS below and the Scriptures that I share on, which I strongly encourage you to dig into as well. :) I love you mamas and I'm praying for you!!! Step 1: Know who God is. Step 2: Have a personal relationship with Christ. 3. Confess lies you have believed about yourself and/or God. 4. Repent from those and allow God to transform your mind with who He says He is and who He says you are. 5. Continue to seek God and walk in His ways and in how He created you. A LIST OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS: https://www.gotquestions.org/spiritual-gifts-list.html THE VERSES: For YOU created my INMOST being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them– Romans 12:6. Psalm 119:73-74 You made me; you created me.  Isaiah 64:8 Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. 1 Peter 4:10-11 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. I pray this episode encourages you to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any fleshly desires, repent, and allow the Holy Spirit to build up walls of protection for you from those fleshly desires. I share some amazing practical truths that I found to help with learning how to use the gift of self control. The most important thing to remember is that we CAN NOT practice self control out of our own will power. We NEED the Holy Spirit in us. Mamas, we receive the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us as soon as you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord. What is your child's most desperate need? Is it the best education? The best teacher? The best sports team? The best job? No, none of these. Your child's most desperate need is the need of God's mercy. I was surprised to see that many parents in our culture believe that children are born inherently good. Unfortunately, this does not match with biblical truth. Our children, and us, are born sinners in need of being saved. I share from Paul David Tripp's Parenting book 6 steps that we need to take in conversations with our children to help them understand they are sinners in need of being saved. Why is this so crucial? Because if they don't ever recognize their sin, cry out for God's mercy, and receive His forgiveness and cleansing, they will spend eternity separated from Him. This is important mamas. I know it can be a hard conversation but it is vital. It would be unloving if we didn't talk to our children about sin. You will hear me break down the three main attributes of God that we see in this verse (His sovereignty, His omnipotence ((yes I mispronounce this)), and His glory). Mamas, I hope and pray that this quick episode encourages you to have faith in His sovereignty over our lives and our children's lives, in His power and might, and that during the waiting and when He answer our prayers, it's all for His glory. I pray that it spurs you on to continue to pray. Continue to trust in His almighty, all powerful, all knowing, ways. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours and He can do exceedingly more than we can ask or imagine. Love you mamas and praying for you.

This episode is centered around this verse - James 1:22 - Be doers of the Word and not hearers only. I share many examples of what this looks like - volunteering at a homeless shelter, taking coffee to a widow/widower, acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly, loving your enemy, serving others first, being in the Word daily, inquiring of God and doing what He wants you to do, inviting your children into your own personal faith journey so they can SEE, taking cookies to a neighbor, making a meal for a family who is struggling, sick or just had a baby and the list could go on. The point of this episode is that God strongly desires us to put our faith into action - He wants us to HEAR His word and DO His Word. He wants an intimate relationship with us. He wants us to be genuine in our obedience to Him. There is FRUIT when we put our faith into action. I hope and pray this encourages you mamas!!!! In this episode you will hear 3 Common Power Tools that parents fall into when they are trying to "control" their children: Fear, Reward/Bribery, Guilt/Shame. I'm focusing the most on fear based parenting. WHAT I'M NOT SAYING: We should ignore the sin in our children. We shouldn't have a healthy fear of the Lord (reverence for who He is and His power). We shouldn't discipline our children. We shouldn't correct them. WHAT I AM SAYING: HOW are we dealing with sin in our children? Is our discipline, or our want for control, fueled by anger, fear, screaming/yelling, bribery/rewards, threats, shame or guilt? Are you physically, emotionally, or spiritually being too harsh with your children? HOW are you teaching them to obey, respect, honor God and you? I encourage you to teach them in the Word. I encourage you to use self control and surrender. I encourage you to step back and take a deep look at your parenting. WHY do you want them to obey? Because they physically fear you, because you have made them feel so guilty and full of shame, because you have bribed them with rewards? Because you want constant control over them and their hearts? I pray that all of us mamas desire our children to obey us and more importantly God because they LOVE us and TRUST us (both us and God). Fathers, don't exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord - Ephesians 6:4. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. Ephesians 6:9. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. John 15:9-11 This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. 2 John 1:6. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. I share the verse Romans 12:15: Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Jen shares Psalm 139 (when we are rooted in who we are we are far less likely to tear other women down). We can overcome this by hiding God's Word in our hearts and minds, keeping our eyes on Jesus, praying for one another, saying encouraging and edifying things to each other and more. Jen shares a lot of verses to encourage us and an AWESOME phrase that I LOVE to help overcome comparison (around the 21 minute marker). Maybe it's homeschooling your kids, leading a Bible study, writing a book, starting a faith centered workout group - whatever it is - if He has called you to it, you better do it. Mamas, I say that lovingly because when we obey what God is asking us to do - it's beautiful and right. I talk about the passage in Ephesians 4 where Paul is talking about spiritual gifts (Christ gives spiritual gifts so that he may equip the church through all of the individuals as they exercise their gifts. According to this passage, when gifted individuals exercise their spiritual gifts, the church is built up to maturity in Christ Jesus). Romans 12 also talks about our gifts (We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully). God has given each one a spiritual gift and talents to use for HIS glory. How are you glorifying God with the gifts and talents He has given you? Have you stepped out in BOLDNESS in faith to obey something He has called you to do? It could be a road where many are encouraging you or it could be one where it seems no one cares. God cares. God sees. He is asking us to step out in faith and do what He has called us to do for HIM.
