This blessing covers nine sacred spiritual pathways, each tailored to different ways of connecting with the divine. It acknowledges the diverse spiritual needs and inclinations of individuals, offering guidance and affirmation for each pathway. Please enjoy! May naturalists find the creator in nature's beauty, seeing God's cathedral in the grand expanse, and find renewal in the beauty of creation. May sensates experience the divine through every sense, feeling God's presence in worship melodies and sacred art's beauty. May rituals and symbols of faith deepen ascetics' experience of the divine and be a source of strength and inspiration. May solitude and simplicity bring traditionalists closer to the divine, and may their lives testify to simplicity and devotion. May intellectuals' pursuit of knowledge and wisdom bring them closer to God, and may their knowledge enrich and bless others. May caregivers' acts of service and kindness reflect God's love, and may their service bring joy and fulfillment to those in need. May the mysteries and celebrations of faith fill enthusiasts' spirits with awe and wonder, and may their journey be marked by joy and reverence. May contemplatives' reflections and stillness bring them closer to the divine, and may they find peace in God's presence. May activists' advocacy and efforts for justice reflect God's love and righteousness, and may their actions be guided by compassion and faith.

What do you do to feel most connected with God? One way that many of us grew up with is the idea of 'quiet time' where you physically sit still and quiet. While there is still value in this practice (just ask friend of the show Strahan Coleman), this is something that many struggled with growing up and, in actual fact, there are many ways to connect with God. Join Petra Bagust in this special episode recorded live in the Coromadel at the Love It Media staff retreat. Petra first talks to senior producer, Josh Couch, who breaks down the nine different paths of connection as identified by Gary Thomas in his book Sacred Pathways. After some time to think, Petra then hears from different members of the Love It Media staff team, who offer a mix of funny and poignant stories about the different ways they feel connected to God. To wrap it all up, Sunday Sanctuary's very own Rev Frank Ritchie leads communion (which you're welcome to join in with from home) and Petra finishes off with another benediction from Kate Bowler and Jessica Ritchie. Join us! Sacred Texts: Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas C. S. In this episode, I have the privilege of sitting down with bestselling author and speaker Gary Thomas. He and his wife Lisa have been married 40 years and have 3 kids and 2 grandkids. He actually lived in Houston near my home base in La Grange for about 12 years, but now resides in Colorado, which we joked about as a great place to end up after the heat and humidity of Texas. Gary has written many well known books and phenomenal resources, including a Sacred Marriage, Authentic Faith, and Sacred Pathways. But the book we dive into in this conversation is called When to Walk Away. Folks, this book was groundbreaking for me - as a people pleaser, I believed that any toxic person I encountered who didn't change through our friendship must be some failure on my part. This book shifted my perspective in such needed ways not merely based on his opinion or experience, but a unique look into Christ's interactions with people as we see in the gospels. Today's conversation is challenging, insightful, and filled with scripture, It may even shift your thinking on what our lives are intended to be about as Christ-followers made for eternal purpose and called to bear much fruit. I recommend taking notes on this one! We dive in with Gary's 1-minute elevator pitch of his book When to Walk Away.  Show Notes: website: https://garythomas.com/ substack: https://garythomasbooks.substack.com/ IG: @garythomasbooks FB: @ Author Gary Thomas When to Walk Away by Gary Thomas Nehemiah 8:10, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of god and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Joshua 24:15, “Choose this day whom you will serve.” 1 Corinthians 14:32, “The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.” John 10:10, “The thief comes only to kill and steal and destroy. Gary Thomas explains the meaning of Advent, “God with us,” by using a true story about a visit to a ranch where he saw a great word picture: a lone horse and a lone sheep who wouldn't leave each other's sides. The rancher explained that there used to be an entire flock of sheep, but they were all picked off by coyote. This one sheep figured out that as long as he stayed near that big horse, he was safe. And he remains there to this day. How do we know when our child is ready to make a public faith commitment - whether that's baptism, confirmation or profession of faith? What are the smaller steps along the faith journey that we should be looking out for? How can ‘sacred pathways' help us nurture our child's faith in helpful ways? And what can we do if our child is showing no interest in Jesus? Our guest today is Christie Thomas, Western Canadian homeschool mum of three boys, former Children's Ministry director, and founder of Little Shoots Deep Roots. Christie shares stories from her own parenting journey, as well as ideas for how we approach this area with our own children. We think you're going to LOVE learning from Christie about the nine ‘sacred pathways', or different ways of connecting with God, that Christie shares in this episode. This is an incredibly effective tool which can help us discover our child's pathway, making it much easier for us to journey with them as they pursue Jesus. Adoration Prayer | Psalm 95 - Clint Leavitt

The Spring Midtown

If most of us are being honest, we likely consider prayer to be a weak point in our spiritual lives. We find it hard to make time to pray; we find it unproductive in a world obsessed with hurry and productivity; we feel guilty for not praying often enough, and yet when we finally set aside the time to do so, we find ourselves distracted or confused, not sure how to proceed. Rather than serving as a life-giving connection to a redemptive, loving, and restorative God in the midst of a broken world, prayer becomes a chore or a bore or a guilt-riddled religious game. We often find ourselves, as Jesus' earliest disciples did, wondering how we can begin to pray. Join us as Midtown as we wade into the challenging waters of prayer, exploring the way that the Psalms teach us authentic, genuine prayer, and how their model can provide us structures for how we begin to relate to and know God more fully in our own lives today. All people--religious or otherwise--adore something above all else. Our adorations shape, and often distort, who we are. Watch as Pastor Clint explores this idea, and teaches how Psalm 95 teaches us how to adore the right thing in the right ways. Sermon Resources: 1. The Mirror of Erised - from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling" 2. “The so-called real world of men and money and power hums merrily along in a pool of fear and anger and frustration and craving and worship of self. Our own present culture has harnessed these forces in ways that have yielded extraordinary wealth and comfort and personal freedom. The freedom to all be lords of our tiny skull-sized kingdoms, alone at the center of all creation.” -David Foster Wallace, "This Is Water" 3. “Your deepest desire is the one manifested by your daily life and habits. This is because our action—our doing—bubbles up from our loves, which, as we've observed, are habits we've acquired through the practices we're immersed in. That means the formation of my loves and desires can be happening “under the hood” of consciousness. I might be learning to love something that I'm not even aware of and that nonetheless governs my life in unconscious ways.” -James K.A. Smith, "You Are What You Love: The Spiritual Power of Habit" 4. "Sacred Pathways," by Gary Thomas - Naturalist, Sensate, Traditionalist, Ascetic, Activist, Caregiver, Enthusiast, Contemplative, Intellectual 5. “The world is not divided between people who worship and people who don't. The world is divided into people who worship things that will distort their life, and people who worship the only object worthy of the adoration of our soul.” -Tim Keller, Sermon on 7/7/2002 6. “We learn about the goodness of God not by contemplating the goodness of God but by watching a butterfly. So here is my counsel: begin by paying attention to the little creatures that creep upon the earth. Watch the birds and the squirrels and the ducks. Go to a brook and splash some water on your burning face. In that instant don't seek to solve all the problems of pollution and the ecosystem; just feel the water…When we do these kinds of things with some degree of regularity, we, in time, begin to experience pleasures rather than scrutinize them…As this happens, thanksgiving and praise and adoration will flow naturally in their proper time. ‘To experience the tiny theophany is itself to adore.” -Richard Foster, "Prayer: Finding The Heart's True Home" 7. “If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery Join us below: Facebook: www.facebook.com/midtownpreschurch Instagram: www.instagram.com/midtown.pres Website: www.midtownpres.org Community Groups: www.midtownpres.org/community-groups Sunday Services: www.midtownpres.org

With our relationship with God, the way we individually connect with Him is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is something that each of us has the privilege of doing. However, it is important to note that there is no universal method that applies to everyone. While there are certain practices that all of us engage in, such as praying, worshiping, studying scripture, giving, and taking communion, the way we personally connect with God is like adding gasoline to an already burning fire. This is precisely what the book "Sacred Pathways" aims to explore and explain.Champion Church of St. Augustine, Floridahttps://championchurch.cc/https://www.instagram.com/championchurch_/https://www.facebook.com/ChampionChurch.CC

Each episode, I mention that life often makes it easy to forget - to forget the truth about who God is and who we are called to be. We are prone to forget, and it's important to pay attention to what helps us remember. Because the truth is, we don't all connect with God in the same way. God connects with each of us differently. Uniquely. And the way we each feel connected to God matters. In today's episode, I'm sharing nine different spiritual personalities in the hopes that together, we will remember what helps us remember. Listen in.
